The amount of relief EMDR with Valerie has provided me is absolutely priceless. After having a baby in 2022, a lot of other things resurfaced and I reached back out to do another "round" of EMDR. This time with similar efficiency and outcomes. We discovered so many revelations that I have never once had come up in any individual or couples therapy I've been to over the years. Overall I had a wonderful (and life changing) experience with Valerie and highly recommend her. I am able to keep my depression in check (I can't take meds for it), I am less anxious and stressed, and all of my relationships (especially my marriage) are better off because of the work I've done with Valerie. Valerie is one of the best listeners, understanding, and so incredibly sharp and insightful. I've referred friends that have had great experiences as well. If you're on the fence, just do it, my only regret is not doing it sooner. If you think it's too pricey, just think to yourself how much you would pay to not be feeling X anymore, or how much months of talk therapy/divorce costs... After only one session, she suggested I see a psychologist for a medical consultation. I told her I had succeeded with other issues in the past with therapy and without medicine and would like to try cognitive therapy first before resorting to medicine. She insisted two more times that I seek a medical consultation. I felt like she didn't even want to try to help me with cognitive therapy. I had filled out a form describing the items I would like to work on and rated my well being. During the appointment, she said my issues were all very minor and she suggested that I exaggerate my ratings as it would help the insurance cover my sessions... A few days later, I emailed her to cancel our next appointment. It is not okay that she felt it was appropriate to diagnose me and suggest a med consult after only one session together and for such mild issues. She responded with a very inappropriate email and accused me of not wanting a med consultation because I would lose control of the situation. I am self-admittedly an anxious person and taking the steps to better myself. She should not use the issues I confided in her against me.

She and I were able to swiftly work through some deep-seated issues and mindsets around fear and scarcity using EMDR. I had not experienced EMDR before, but found it to be a very efficient modality which allowed access into (and through) outdated storied and old traumas. Prabha is a very refreshing therapist in that she's not afraid to provide her frank appraisal of your situation, based on what she's hearing from you. She provides plenty of space for you and your process, but also isn't afraid to reflect back a clear point of view. I have no patience for clinicians who are overly passive, and I've struggled with this in the past- I don't need to hear banal reflections like "that sounds hard;" I'm already aware! Prabha is NOT like this, and will tell it like it is, which I really appreciate. I definitely recommend working with her if you're curious about EMDR, and if you're looking for a true thought partner to help you work through your situation.

I had scheduled an EMDR session, for which in hindsight I see now that I should have observed her cold/short communication as a harbinger of things to come. Fast forward to the day of my appointment, and a very rare emergency caused me to be meaningfully late to our first appointment. Not a great introduction on my part, I know... so I did everything I could to show respect and apologize to Prabha. I emailed first 15 minutes before my start time with notice of my long delay and sincerest apologies, and also provided my forms electronically in advance to allow her time to review. I didn't get a reply, but instead a stern email about my absence. I kindly replied to this new message apologizing again and asking her if she's read my two messages sent before (advance notice of delay and forms). No reply from her on this either. I send one more message asking if we can at least finish the meeting slot via Zoom, which I understood her practice to also offer, so we could at least finish my on boarding this way. In the meantime, I also pre-paid at this point for my meeting, despite not yet being asked to pay. I'm going out of my way because I felt really bad about having been late. In this message, I also asked alternatively if the other time she had originally offered for the same day might still be available for us to hold as a backup. After all the above, I get a series of diatribes and lectures from her, scolding me, with lots of repetition, for my tenacity in being late, for asking for a different time, for asking for a late Zoom change, and dictating I need to pay twice for such a change even if the time were available. I was really, really turned off by this, but decided after a few days that given my invested time in this already, I'd give one more go at this after she asked if I want to schedule again. Keep in mind I fully paid for my first session already, despite being completely ignored and receiving no service, and I didn't so much as mention or complain about this. I sent her a reply after her further unkind emails that came later, and do my best to ignore how I had been treated to-date, and still tried to offer a "I truly respect your time despite what happened" message at the end, to which she latched onto again, indicating I clearly didn't respect her time, otherwise I wouldn't have asked to change the venue, I wouldn't have asked if another time was available, and so on. Bottom line: I was wrong and made a mistake. But the treatment I received was despicable and showed the true colors I believe one can expect here. She never so much as acknowledged her own neglect and oversight in missing my sent emails in advance, and in fact had the tenacity to proclaim they went to her spam folder, which was a rather disappointing lie, given they were replies to the same email thread for which she received every single message I sent, and even replied to all within 1-2 hours of receipt. For someone providing various forms of therapy, this was far from therapeutic. I suspect from the other reviews she must be good at what she does. But like the soup kitchen on Seinfeld, sometimes you have to pay a heavy price for quality. In this case, receiving poor treatment seeking treatment.
