I live in Long Beach, but I drive to Torrance for my dental care because I have trusted Dr. Valencia for quality patient care since I began visiting them for teeth cleanings in 2017. Since then, I have gone in for biannual cleanings and have undergone Clear Correct orthodontia over a 2-year period that really straightened my smile and made me less self-conscious about my teeth (they were gross, y'all). Visiting the office is also easy because there is ample parking on Cabrillo just outside of the business. Just a scam with the new dentist. I've been coming here for five years and never had any issues with Dr. Valencia (and I have horrible teeth due to genetics). In January I went in for a six month check up and got the new dentist. I paid over $400 to replace a "cracked" filling and not only did the temporary come out in the process, it's still sore. I called back and went in today (going on five weeks now) and he referred me to get a root canal. There will be no refund on the $400+ I already spent due to him misdiagnosing me on the original visit. What did I get instead? A referral to get a root canal and an, "I'm sorry you're in pain." I cant begin to explain my frustration and disappointment. 0/10 would recommend but Yelp makes me do at least 1 star. read more

Sadly, my experience was bad, I was taking my appointment for clean my teeth, they do XRs and they told me to talk with my insurance and call me back, but never call me from this dental office. I received one letter from the insurance to approved the cleans procedure. I made Appoiment against and announce the letter from insurance. I went to office and the receptionist told me' sorry, is our fault , didn't tell you we don't work for this plan. I think the workers don't think and doesn't respect the costumer time after two weeks this is the answer, I lose the time to go to other dentist and time off to work with out paid, and I spend gasoline for to goes twice long distance from my home to over there. read more

Ok, I haven't been to the dentist in three years. I finally made an appointment. My criteria were local and in my network and decent reviews. I called the office and made an appointment for the next week. The receptionist took all my insurance information so she could confirm my coverage prior to the appointment, and the office sent me reminder text messages. Thank you!!! I love that feature. When we arrived, the waiting area was small-just a handful of chairs and a TV. I came with my three young children, and the staff didn't bat an eye. In fact, they went above and beyond. The reason I haven't been to the dentist in so long is mainly because it's so darn hard to take my kids to my appointments. My daughter is clingy and I have a newborn. They worked with me. In fact, we joked that they should open a daycare on the side. My exam went well. Dr. Valencia found a cavity and recommended I extract one of my wisdom teeth. The other thing I love? She did it the same day. It's really hard for me to get to the dentist once, so I hate having to make additional appointments. She started right in. The last time I had a wisdom tooth removed, they made such a production out of it. I had to go to the oral surgeon, he offered me laughing gas and valium (both of which I didn't use). I had to have a person to accompany me home. Dr. Valencia was no-nonsense. She said it was no big deal, and I believed her. She made it simple. I walked out of the office with no pain and even the day after I only have some soreness, but no real pain. The funny thing is, because the last tooth was such an ordeal I remember the healing process being difficult. But because she made it no big deal, it really doesn't feel like one at all. read more

I love this dentist BUT... the woman working the front desk who requests authorizations is way out of line. I busted Dr. V for a simple teeth cleaning appointment. I have dental insurance. Dr. Valencia mentioned that I have some old filings that are fine & not causing any problems. She suggested I have them replaced whenever the need arises. No big deal. Enter the woman at the front desk. She called for authorizations. Again, no big deal. That was fine. After a few moments of thought I decided I didn't want to fix what wasn't broken. Taking out old filings means the area will need to be drilled out more than what was done initially. Bigger hole, more potential for entire tooth being lost. So I asked that she stop. Two different people who were assisting me asked her to stop on my behalf. She didn't listen. Once I was done with my cleaning I asked her to stop. She actually looked at me & said she was NOT going to stop because she wanted to know how much my insurance would pay. I asked her again to STOP!!! I told her we would not be having this conversation if I did not have insurance & she knew it. Why on earth ask for authorization for work that won't be done?!? Ridiculous! Finally I reminded her that I was not a two year old who needed someone to think for them so she needed to STOP!!! Finally, she stopped. I have never been treated this way by anyone in the dental industry. Shame on you! Dr. Valencia, you really need to have a chat with your employee! read more

I am writing this in waiting room, 45 minutes in. They don't care about appointment time so why did I make one? There were 4 of us signed in at 2pm, however only 3 of us had an appointment then (one person had a 3pm time). The person with the 3pm appointment got called in 25 minutes ago and I'm still stuck waiting here. I just moved here and was hoping to have found my (and my SO's new dentist for years to come! Sadly I think I'll have to keep looking as I want to find a place that respects appointment times and where it won't take me an hour and a half to get a simple cleaning. UPDATE: I wrote the above in frustration, with 2 stars marked because the staff did seem quite nice. I didn't end up posting it because I felt bad. BUT today I found out that my total charge for a cleaning with a couple sealants was $120. I was informed at the office that my charge would be $40 which I paid, and now my insurance says I still owe an additional $80. PLUS, my husband with the same insurance got his cleaning with all molars sealed at a different place and paid a grand total of $0. Not to mention that other place was prompt and didn't make him wait an hour. I am so done. One star. So upset right now. read more

I would imagine many a first Yelp review has been motivated by a negative response. In my case, it's the opposite. I hate going to the dentist. It ranks up there with visiting the DMV, getting stuck at the airport by an overeager TSA officer or getting mugged. The uncomfortable whirring and vibrating sensation in your mouth combined with the cold, sterile look of the dentist glaring at you from under the overly bright light leaves me with cold sweats at night. With Dr. Valencia, there's none of that. Well, the dental tool sounds are still there, but Dr. Valencia and her staff are anything but cold and sterile--they are extraordinarily nice and super accommodating. What's more, Dr. Valencia is all smiles and before every procedure she explains what she's about to do in a very reassuring manner.
