Rented a boat for our island trip. The staff is A+ and helped with all our questions. I would rent from them again!

Mike gave us great recommendations of places to stay when we couldn't make it over the first night, was extremely patient with us, and gave us sound advice.

As all the reviews mentioned, this sells out quickly so my husband & I got there at 8:30 am &…read morewaited till they opened @9am to book the trip. Don't be deterred by the grumpy older gentlemen booking the trip. Only 3 trips a day & no one else is offering a boat trip on Lake Placid. Sure enough when we showed up at 1:15 for our 1:30 trip, the tours were all sold out. They split everyone onto 2 boats for social distancing & I must say - I liked being on a boat without being crowded! The guide on the boat was great - he provided the history & great information on some of the grand homes that are on the embankments. Tour is an hour. Well worth it!

Ok here it is, the tour itself, 4 stars for sure. Booking the tour, 2 stars. Obviously because of…read moreCOVID there has been a surge of local travel, Lake Placid is jammed and as far as boat tours go this is really the only game in town. They offer a few tours daily starting at 10 and ending at 3:30pm. Now here is the most important part, if you read nothing else, read this. DO NOT CALL TO BOOK. Get to the actual marina no later than 8:30am the day you want to go. They do not do advance booking. Stand in line and then book directly. If you call they will be sold out by 9:01 am. There is one dude there that early, he isn't friendly and he is getting the people in line first before answering the phone. The guy taking names was just a jerk, no other way to put it. It turned us off from wanting to go, but I waited in line anyway. He just demands how many, time, name and number and don't go out of order or you'll get a dirty look (like I did). Now, the tour itself was fantastic. We had Captain Cook and he did a great job and tried to get our girls interested, talking to them and I really appreciate that. You can to see all the homes (camps) as well as the mountains, etc. It really is a nice hour on the water. Captain Cook is the reason they get 4 stars. If you're here, come for the tour for sure just be sure to plan in advance to book it and what day you want to go and show up early!

I was a bit apprehensive since we are boating novices, having only used a motorized boat once before. Turns out we had nothing to worry about. We were given a pristine, spacious pontoon (called the Bentley, if that tells you anything :), and the operator gave us crystal clear directions on how to use it. The person helping us also gave us a map of lake placid and pointed out good areas to stop for swimming and fishing. My kids had the time of their lives on the water. The operator was kind enough to suggest bringing one of their floating tubes and a fish net, all for no extra charge. I thought we would only be on the water for 2hrs at most, but we ended up being out for more than 3. The kids said they could have stayed out on the lake all day. We did not catch any fish but we all enjoyed the beautiful view in our clean, spacious pontoon. Given our inexperience, this excursion could have easily gone south, however Captain Marneys clearly cares about its patrons and goes the extra mile to make sure everything goes well. We will be back!
