So glad I found this alterations place through Yelp! If you're facing the strip mall from the parking lot, it is located toward the left of Planet Fitness. I needed my work slacks hemmed since they were too long on me, so I tried this place out. The employee at Sara's Alterations was friendly and took her time in pinning my pants and making sure that I liked the length that it would be hemmed to. I picked up my hemmed pants a week later (it was ready sooner but I wasn't in the area at the time), and they looked fantastic! I couldn't even see the sewing lines on the pants -- it blended perfectly. The hemming was even on both sides. Tip: This place accepts cash or check only. I would recommend bringing exact change if possible. My alteration cost $6 so I gave Sara a $10 bill, but she didn't have change to break the $10. Maybe because I arrived right when they opened, not sure. Luckily I found $6 in my wallet to pay her. read more

This will definitely be my go to place for any sort of alterations! The staff is the nicest and the work product is amazing. I got three alterations completed recently and all turned out perfect! One shirt was shortened, another taken in, and I had the zipper repaired on a pair on jeans. I can't even tell that it was "altered", everything looks AMAZING! The total for all three items was $45.00 which is very reasonable for what they produce. Tip: If you're heading into the mall use the entrance to the LEFT of Planet Fitness. I found this tailor shop through Yelp and I'm glad I did. Location: Country Club Plaza. That's right, inside of the Country Club Mall. It's been so long that I have been over there, I thought the mall closed completely. There's literally only five small business that are operating inside of the mall (Hair & Nails, Eyebrow Threading, Back/Foot Massage, Watch Repair and Tailor Shop) and heavy construction. Depending on the area from where you are coming will determine what freeway you will use (160, 50, 80) but it off of Watt and Butano. A five minute walk from the Sac Rt 23, 80, 82 bus stops. There's plenty of parking stalls. Atmosphere: The Mall itself is eerie, but the tailor shop isn't. The tailor shop has an eclectic collection of mixed Asian art and figurines. The husband and wife are very friendly. The husband comes from the back and greets and then the wife, Sara, comes out. Seating:It's about seven chairs in the lobby area of the tailor shop by the entrance next to the window and even two great big chairs outside the shop as part of the mall furniture. Dressing/Fitting Room: There's two makeshift dressing/fitting rooms in the back of the shop that has hanging fabric (curtain style) in place of a door. Clientele: Multicultural. Pricing: $6 for a hem (without lining), $8 hem with lining and for jeans, but truly reasonable prices considering the competition. Payment Method: Cash or check only, does not accept credit cards. Time: about a day or two, unless you want the hem done the same day, then it's two dollars extra. Skills: Amazing. I went on a friday to get a pair of my scrub pants hemmed. There was no one in there except for myself, Sarah's husband, Sarah and another seamstress. The couple greeted me and Sarah had me go to the back to change into my scrub pants. When I came out Sarah had me stand on a lighted elevated stage facing three huge mirrors. Within a minute Sarah barely hemmed my pants with a safety pin and used white chalk to make her markings on my pants and was done. I decided to pay the two extra dollars to receive the same day service. I was told to come back in a hour. I walked to Winco (which is the building next door) and did some grocery shopping. I came back in about 45 minutes ( and planned on sitting to wait) and my pants were finished and hanging on a hanger. The workmanship was amazing, right down to the matching color of thread, as if it came originally (fitted) from the scrub shop. While, I think that working full hours every day of the week does not make for a well balanced life, I appreciate that they are open on weekends as it will allow me to utilize their excellent services again. This hard working duo provided high quality same day service for an excellent price. I had 3 slacks hemmed for $8 each and was able to pick them up 4 hours after dropping them off. On top of the low cost and rapid service, this mother and son team were professional, friendly and went the extra mile by pressing my slacks so they are ready for me to wear to work. Make sure to tip well! I failed to get Sara's son's name, but he was friendly; I enjoyed talking with him and learning a little bit about their business. Sara was quiet and focused on her work, but was pleasant and has a lovely smile. I would have gladly stayed to talk with them and learn more about them if they didn't have more work to do. I'm actually looking forward to bringing in more clothes to be altered. Not only will my clothes feel more comfortable and look better, I'll feel good about supporting this business. I wish I could leave a one star. My mother came here to drop off her wedding dress. She came in for one thing and her request was ignored and instead they did something to her dress that was unnecessary. And now her dress is unwearable. Her wedding is less then a week away and they have ruined this part of her wedding she cried when she put the dress on for the first time because of the happiness and this shop just took all of that away. read more

I have been coming to Sara's for many years. From the time the mall had most of the retail locations full through the dark times. Hopefully business will pick up with the new retailers. Her work is very good and her prices are extremely reasonable. She completes most of my work in just a couple days. Although I have had a couple of good alterations here, unfortunately at my last time in the alterations were not done correctly. I had a pair of jeans that I wanted her to hem and asked specifically to keep the "wide hem" as they originally had, but she instead chopped the material to the required hem length, but did a "skinny hem". With jeans, once a hem is done, there is no way to return it to "wide" as the material is now gone :( I also had a loved dress (that originally showed to much cleavage) altered and it was done incorrectly... to the point of no return Due to these issues, I will not be returning. I've followed Sara from the downtown mall out to her new digs in the Plaza Mall because she delivers what I want. She's affordable, she's open 7 days a week, and because her personality leaves me wondering how the heck her day has been. Most specifically, I dropped a pair of pants off, it was a little bit baggy and I've asked them to make it fit just like another pair of pants I brought with me so they can take the dimensions. Hands down I would say she is simply the best. Last minute prom dress idea change for my daughter which included closing up the bust area about an inch, adding more tulle, a missing jewel and customizing a shawl to my daughters measurements. I brought in my own materials and Sara worked her magic. Everything was completed in the timeframe stated and when we went to pick it up, my daughter tried it on and we couldn't have been more happier. I've been going to her for years. From adding leather to the sides of waist length mink coat that started to fit more snug, alteration to other items as well. I've been a customer three times and I have a love-hate relationship with this shop. Regrettably, I can't return because I'm just too irritated. Pros The work which has actually been done is always excellent. Reasonable prices. They keep mall hours, so, I can get in 7 days a week, and go after work. This is rare for a tailor and the only reason I don't continue to use Friendship Tailor who has unreasonably short hours. Cons Although "same day service" prominently stated as being available, I've never received it and in fact, what used to be "1-2 days is now "3-4 days." That's okay, but I wonder what it takes to get same day service? In three visits, they have forgotten one aspect of the job each and every time. They have argued about this, defensive, rather than just say "sorry, one of these items is on the house" or something to make amends for the mistakes. *On the first visit, I asked for sleeves to be taken up in a wrap coat, and, two brass button snaps to be added so I didn't have to "wrap" it all the time. I wanted fixed closed button snaps. I provided the button snaps myself and after I showed them to Sara, she put them in the pocket of the coat. When I picked up the coat from an elderly man (Sara was gone), I pointed out the sleeves were hemmed but the buttons were not added, so the work wasn't done. He kept pushing the coat at me and insisting the work was done. "Finished, finished." (Language barrier). I said "NOT FINISHED" and showed him the snaps still sitting on the card from the fabric store, in the pocket of the coat. The following day, I got a call and Sara argued with me that the reason she hadn't affixed the snaps was because they were not the right style for the coat. I thought this was just an excuse to cover up forgetting, because she had no answer to why she didn't say this when I gave her the coat, told her what I wanted, showed her the buttons, and she put the buttons in the pocket. I also said "Why didn't you tell me before I came out to pick it up that you were not going to use the snaps, and why didn't you suggest something else? Because you CHARGED me for it." She hemmed and hawed and I said "Did you just FORGET TO ADD THE BUTTONS?!" She finally said "Yes." Never said "I'm sorry." I had to return a few days later to pick it up, but I was irritated we had to play that game. *On the second visit, my mother and I had her hem 3 pair of pants, and while that work was excellent, my mother pointed out that she had also asked her to remove the flaps from the pockets, which she had specifically asked for. Sara had forgotten. My mother said "forget it" because we were in a HURRY. *On the third visit, this weekend -- many months after the last incident -- I dropped two jackets and one blouse, all of which needed the sleeves shortened. I also said on the blouse, I wanted the button front opening sewn shut permanently, from the top button to about 3 inches from the bottom of the blouse, so the sheer and delicate blouse didn't keep popping open. She marked the top and bottom area where I wanted it sewn closed up the front. Last night I picked up the jackets and blouse and the mall was about to close so I dashed away with the items. I got to my car, hung up the clothes, and then remembered, oh shit, I forgot to check and sure enough ... she hadn't sewn the blouse shut. She hemmed all the sleeves and did a great job, but, she didn't sew the blouse closed at the chalk spots she marked (which were now gone of course). I am so frustrated by this -- three visits and every single time something has been forgotten or overlooked. I think part of the problem is, nothing is every written down. She nods and says "yes" a lot and then scribbles on the claim ticket, but obviously there is no system for putting down the list of things to be done or it wouldn't be overlooked every single time. I can't deal with this anymore, so I need another tailor. Sara's is fine for hems, but I wouldn't trust anything special or unique. read more

Prices were reasonable for the alterations that I needed (jeans, linen pants, dress pants and a shirt). Dropped off last Sat, was told they would be done Wednesday. I was busy and did not pick up until this past Saturday. Tried clothes on, everything fit perfectly, no additional changes or modifications needed. I had been looking for a place that did alterations and when I found an advertisement in a local paper for Sara's Alterations, I decided to try it. I had two pieces of clothing that needed mending: a pair of white pants with the hem out and an artisan leather jacket that had an unraveling seam. Sara fixed both in a timely manner and only charged me $11!!! I thought that was incredibly cheap. She even removed the pet hair from my pants (they had been in my car for awhile) and pressed them!! I once wrote a good review for Sara's Alterations in Country Club Plaza. My last experience was an entirely different experience. I was seeking a very small repair to a five-year old Ralph Lauren sweater. For sentimental reasons, I felt it was worth an attempt to get the sweater mended. Sara's charge for fixing this 1/4 of an inch hole was $25.00. I told the counterman I did not think my sweater was worth $25.00 and I walked out. The next day, out of curiosity and an admitted bit of irritation, I took the same sweater to Alterations Plus on the corner of Arden and Eastern, near Whole Foods. The estimated cost for repair was $6.00. I now will be doing my business with Alterations Plus. read more

I stopped by on 5/13/2018 to get my alterations done. I bought a dress that was way too long, has two very long slits up the sides, and is too low-cut. It was the last one, was the perfect color, and I NEEDED IT... so I decided to get it altered to make it fit just right. I gave Sara's Alterations a call and they asked me to come in to give me an accurate quote. When I did, the owners were so sweet! Sara is really attentive and she addressed all of my requests. When I mentioned I'd be wearing heels, she asked me to slide into a pair so she could make sure she got the measurements just right. For dress hemming she has done a decent job. But she can NOT down size a dress. I took a formal dress there and she told me she would be able to make it smaller. I came back and it was poorly done. She didn't undo the side where the chest was, all she did was sew corners in, leaving a lump of fabric right below the chest area. It was a high low dress, but now the length of the high part is uneven. My dress is ruined and I have to go buy a new dress to wear now. I won't be returning there ever again. read more
