Tasty but expensive. I did the idly and vada combo . For $10 you get one piece of idly and 1 piece of vada . Maybe you are paying for the side chutneys and sambar . I got a filter coffee which still remains my favorite thing get at any locations.

As frequent visitors to Jersey, we always end our trip with a brunch here before driving back. We've been doing this for few years now and unfortunately, every time we come the prices keep going up for the same amount of food. Taste is good but not worth the price. Other than name recognition, there is nothing special here anymore unfortunately. $16 for a dosa is blasphemous. Service is also chaotic most of the time.

One of the famous vegetarian-culinary identities of the Indian state (Tamilnadu) I belong to, which also happens to be the birthplace of this true global chain of restaurants- HSB/Saravana Bhavan. I've been coming to this restaurant at Edison for close to 6 years now and I've always felt that this franchise doesn't really drive me home for its authenticity in taste which is the stamp of authority for any HSB back in Tamilnadu. Not sure if the management or chef changed in recent times but over time I feel they are getting the true mojo of a HSB. The place is well lit, located in a hotspot of Indian restaurants, has ample parking and the hospitality is always top notch. The menu is not extensive but the prices are nominal which is unlikely for a HSB as they are notoriously known for being pricey back in India :)

I was just looking for a casual place to get Indian food, so I was surprised when I walked in because the restaurant was much more upscale than anticipated. It was very busy but we were seated very quickly. I got the thali and my husband got the Masala Dosa. We were shocked by the portion sizes once the food came out, which I feel justified the high prices. We could've each realistically shared the Dosa and been pretty satisfied. The thali was so yummy and I really enjoyed sampling each little dish. The Dosa was also very yummy, but I wish there was more potato stuffing inside. We ran out of potato and started just eating the bread. Overall this was a very fun experience and provided us a great way to sample many kinds of dishes!

my daughters, with four different sauces inside was potato. She is a vegetarian.

I ordered the paneer mild, but it wasn't. They give you rice. The service is impeccable. They stand there at the beginning of the restaurant and watch their tables. You can get their attention at any time. Went on a Saturday night. The place was full.

Ok, THIS is an amazing place! If you are looking for an amazing delicious vegetarian Indian restaurant, this is IT! We ordered Dosa's and they were huge and delicious! Their service was quick and the place is very family friendly!

While I really like the idli Vada here and which is average priced , I was shocked by their prices for some of the other items like chole bhatura. It cost $17.50 and the quantity that came with it was a shocker. Ithe chole felt more of a mini side dish that wouldn't even be sufficient for a single bhatura. The average price to nearby restaurants showed up as under $13. I am fine paying the price they charge if only the quantity justified it. Also they do not serve water and you can only get bottled water which was another shocker for me.

Every time I come to this restaurant the food is excellent, the service is fast and smooth, and the staff are friendly and helpful! I ordered the South Indian thali and it did not disappoint at all! It always fills my stomach happy and my heart VERY happy! I love how such a big plate of food makes me feel so at home! This is a must-do eatery if you are making a trip to Mini-India for shopping.

First time trying Indian vegetarian food and it was delicious! Went with a group of 5 on a Saturday and it was busy. Tried the rava masala dosa, the tomato, onion and chilli uthappam, the paneer manchurian and the thali. So many different chutneys served with the dishes. My favorite was the rava masala dosa and the paneer manchurian. The paneer manchurian was crispy on the outside and coated with a sweet and spicy sauce. If you are like us, trying it for the first time and don't know what to order, just scan the take out menu, there are pictures of all the dishes. We did feel like it was on the pricier side, but the food was good.

Saravanaa Bhavan is an Indian restaurant in New Jersey famous for its South Indian dishes. There are some North Indian curries served as well but Saravanaa Bhavan is an all and all South Indian restaurant. The main attraction of this restaurant is that it serves only pure vegetarian dishes which brings people to this place every time. Most of the customers who visit Saravanaa Bhavan , come for Dosa. There are different varieties of Dosa served with a tangy Sambar which gives you a real flavor of Indian spices and an aroma that remains with you even after you have left the place. Saravanaa Bhavan is the ultimate place to visit when looking for south Indian restaurants in New Jersey.

We were a large group of 12, checking in for lunch and we had a great time. The service was prompt and great. Our server Ruchita was very helpful and always around and checkin on us to make sure we had everything we needed. The food was awesome as expected from Saravana Bhavan with a very authentic regional taste.

Teeters between upscale and casual vibes. Great location in Edison NJ. Lots of seating available and able to get seated quickly. We ordered Traditional masala dosa, Rava dosa and cheese dosa and all were amazing, served with 4 different chutney/sambar. Huge portion size, all you need it one item to be full. Wish Sambar was more flavorful and had more herbs. A bit too oily. Rava dosa took too long to prepare on a weekday. Lots of locations around the world.

Yup, I agree with most of the reviews. I know this chain, even when I was in Belgium, my friend took me to this restaurant. Also back in India so I know this chain quite well. But why they are not maintaining the same quality? Yup ambiance and service-wise- they are good, but I can still feel- their food items need improvement. We ordered- Mysore masala dosa Chettinad Cheese Masala Dos And Paneer 65- My bad, I expected something like indo-chinese as it was an appetizer, but it was just small paneer cubes fried in oil, with onions and chutney. The only star I am deducting is cause my dosa was soggy, it should be crunchy. Also, half of the dosa was undercooked. Chutneys which come with dosa - why it looked like they are full of water. My sambhar was not even warm. upon request, they fixed that. It's not like I won't come here again as quality-wise - they are still good, it's just they have to improve just a little more. A2B in Parsippany - now I feel, they are better than this. Sorry folks!!

We're still looking around for our go-to Indian restaurant in the area as our kids love saag/palak paneer and we used to go at least once a month where we moved from. But we finally made it! We came here on a Monday that also fell on a holiday so they had a steady amount of customers. We were the only non-Indian customers, which appears to be normal. They're located in a small strip along with 2 or 3 other businesses. Shared parking is behind the building so most people entered through the back door. It was about half full when we got there so I can see it filling up fast during crowded times. Walk through because no one is at the back but there is a small clothing rack to hang coats; the counter is at the front by the front door. We made ourselves known and were promptly seated. They serve vegetarian food and many are Swaminarayan-friendly (allium-free, which appears to be their default mode), certain can be made Jain as well! They do use alliums but overall, they seem to be able to make most of the dishes without alliums. We ordered the following, Swaminarayan-style and mild because one of my kids can do but mild food: DAHI PURI: I usually get pani puri but decided to try it out since it's been a while since I had this. It came out first as the appetizer, was a thing of beauty, and there are A LOT of flavors in there. The sweet-leaning yogurt, sev with its textural differences, the freshness of the cilantro, the spiced potatoes, the tart pomegranate seeds... My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed it. PALAK PANEER: This was ordered for my kids. Green gravy with tender paneer. They liked it! The curry got a little too spicy but it didn't hit them until later. My kid with the food allergies ate all the paneer when the gravy grew too spicy for him. MALAI KOFTA: This is different from the malai kofta I've had before but not in a bad way. I definitely think they use cashew "cream" in this. It's lightly sweet in a way that reminds me of cashews. The kofta are soft and I'm pretty sure are paneer based. This is probably the most mild curry we ordered, both in terms of spice and spices. This was my pick because I usually can't order malai kofta at Indian restaurants so I was pleased I could hear. MATAR METHI MALAI: I love how Indian curries are so straightforward when it comes to names. I'm not sure what to expect with this but my husband didn't know what to get so I nudged him towards this. He wanted MATAR PANEER but it's not on the menu. This is essentially fenugreek pea curry in a milky gravy. It has very interesting spices and flavor. A little more bland than the others, yet not at the same time. Must be that fenugreek! For some odd reason, it reminded me of coconut chutney I've had before. We also got ROTI for one of my kids who prefers bread over rice. All curries come with white basmati. For drinks, we got MANGO LASSI, SPRITE, and CHAAS (buttermilk). The buttermilk was different! Much more spiced than I expected. I also swear at one point I tasted a raw onion bit but it only happened once so who knows if it was mistaken blended in or it was all in my head. I do remember it was STRONG though. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised at the sheer amount of choices we had. Our bill totaled to around $90 (curries are around $20, Dahi puri was $12) and we brought home some leftovers. They seem to be family run and are fairly nice and helpful. We would likely go back again to try more things, but the palak paneer isn't completely up our kids' alley to become their favorite. If you have food allergies, let them know. My youngest has multiple food allergies including to nuts and wheat. Most of their curries contains nuts EXCEPT for the palak paneer and their bhindi (okra) dish. Luckily for my kid. Despite how nuts are a common ingredient in the kitchen, my kid was completely fine during and after eating. Note: their menu says they charge gratuity for parties of 4 people or more. My husband says he didn't see it on the bill when it was time to pay. Not sure if that statement is now outdated or it only counts if there are 4+ ADULTS.

The restaurant, bar and outdoor are accessible to all, but if you have a problem with stairs, that is the only way to get to the upstairs space. I do have one suggestion. There were no vegan/vegetarian protein sources. Seitan, tofu and soya would be great additions and helpful to those looking for a higher protein option like me. The food was flavorful, and it was my first time trying hearts of palm. I'm not vegan and eat seafood, so I wasn't expecting the "scallops" to taste like actual seafood. They were made to look like scallops, which was a fun touch, but the texture was different. Overall, the paella was enjoyable and made for a unique dining experience. The lavender martini was interesting, but not for me. It had a floral, citrusy flavor that reminded me a little of perfume or floral soap. It wasn't unbearable. I love spinach even plain, but I think it could have used a touch more seasoning. The tofu scramble was seasoned, but it could either use more seasoning or more moisture. The corn muffins were dry and crumbly, definitely the worst part of the dish. My friend said that the sauce brought the burger together and hid the fact that it's a Beyond burger. She also mentioned that she didn't feel heavy after eating the burger, which was nice. Despite us telling the restaurant that we had to go to a musical, service was on the slower side.
