My sushi tasted like they just came out of the fridge. The beef was tasteless, and the rice was not great. The best thing my daughter and I had was the shrimp tempura. She didn't even like her lo main. She said they were dry. This food was so bad that my daughter, who loves Teriyaki, took her food home and then toss it because she didn't want it. As for the service, my cashier was pleasant, I would give her a three, because this place was crowded and demanding, and she kept a smile on her face. As for the ambiance of it all. It's a mall! So sit in where you fit in. My overall experience I wouldn't eat here again, knowing that there is another similar establishment closer to me that is less expensive and tastes much better along with giving me better and fresher food. Dude... I used to skip school for Sarku Japan. It was another location but it's probably a good thing this one wasn't around then, otherwise I'd be typing this review with chubby fingers while trying to get my GED. It's a little less greasy from what I remember which is a shame but reflective our societal needs, so... eh. You used to be able to share your meal with a friend but now it's a decent size, can't complain. I'm not too fond of all of their items that aren't teriyaki because they're as generic as you'd expect, but that teriyaki sauce. That sweet sweet glaze. You could have children eat vegetables if you dab a little of that on. You could probably get your kid to do his hw too if you gave him some teriyaki. Target is essentially the ground floor of an entire shopping center built in Throggs Neck last year. I had never been upstairs to explore before today, but I was looking for something to eat after shopping so I decided to explore. There are a number of eateries to choose from, but Sarku Japan is one I had not heard of before so it caught my eye. Sarku is a chain, and the food is prepared to order like other fast foodish places like Chipotle and Panera. Their menu contains mainly sushi and teriyaki dishes along with some tempura selections and combination dishes. I decided to go with the shrimp bento box, which contained shrimp teriyaki over brown rice (you also have a choice of white or fried), salad, three chicken potstickers, and four pieces of California roll. The food was okay, the potsickers were tasty and the salad had a nice dressing on it. I mean it's chain food, so you can't expect it to be totally amazing; the ratio of rice to sauce was off on the teriyaki, and the California roll was average, but for what it is, it's pretty good and I would consider coming back. read more

First of ALL I literally come here everyday or almost everyday on my lunch break for a year now. Sometimes it's lunch and then dinner for me and my family . I know , we have a problem. BUT the bento boxes are THE BEST I've ever had and I've had authentic bento boxes (not saying these arent). They also give you a punch card ! I've gone through so many I'm sure they're tired of me . I always get the chicken teriyaki bento box and I give my son my dumplings and he gives me his sushi and his father usually tries to steal our food after he's done with his (it's not a small bento box we're just fat). Food is average and quick. Nothing to complain about food wise. Definitely good for a quick and affordable lunch or dinner. My complaint is about the staff in the front. I was sitting in to have a quick bite and all I can hear is all sorts of profanity and yelling that she is going to fight another co-worker now. She kept saying "I don't have a filter, I don't care who hears it" while cursing and complaining loudly. It was very uncomfortable to sit here and eat. This is a great spot to stop in for a quick bite after shopping. It's fast Japanese food, but it's still great and fresh for its price. They have good $8 bento boxes with beef teriyaki, salad, gyoza and 4 California rolls but no miso soup is included. Not bad for the price but at a nearby joint you can get real good beef teriyaki, miso, salad, gyoza and six California rolls for only $9. i love chicken teriyaki and maybe i am simple and might aim low at times but for me sarku japan has the best teriyaki when it comes to food court mall food. located at the throggs neck mall right off the hutch river pkwy, upper level of mall . most sarku japan shares seating with other mall food joints but this particular sarku has its own seating section and its spacious .lines are always long and believe me just go to any mall food court and you will notice sarku with the longest lines of any food joint . ok my cuz grabbed a table and finally its my turn to order , i never look at the menu board cause i always order the same thing , chicken teri. with white rice and veggies , no sushi, no bento box, no fried rice , no shrimp , pork or veggie or whatever else they have cause as i stated earlier i like to keep it simple and tasty . for less then 25 bucks for 2 including two large fountain sodas its really worth it . my cuz who was eating sarku for the first time loved it and i was shocked cause he hates everything i suggest regardless if i am paying or not and as for me it was yummy as always. overall 4.5 stars on my yelp meter. p. s. i must get one of those red chefs hats . read more
