Number 1 was good, service was fast.

Got the #1 of the menu. Chicken was good and service was fast. Portion was also good.

Bento box (teriyaki chicken, I ate some of it, they give you more than what's shown)

I don't really have much to say about this place. It's in a mall, so the seating is dirty. It's really pricey. The food is bland and not anything special. It's fine, but not very good. I'd give it a 2.5 if I could.

    Shrimp tempura, waste of money

Located at food court at Westfield Mall Plaza Bonita! Busy spot with just ok eats. You can see the cooks in action while waiting for your order. I ordered beef teriyaki bento. Beef was not of the best cut but ok non the less teriyaki sauce was just ok. Rice was cooked perfectly and not soggy like some places. Grilled veggies were plain in taste. Maybe if they put some of the teriyaki sauce on it it would be better in flavor. Gyoza were good in flavor and plumb sauce packets was a nice compliment. DO NOT order their shrimp tempura! ALL tempura and BARELY any shrimp! Waste of your money! California roll was actually simple yet very good in flavor, it was very surprising.

Service was very good. Service with a smile and answered all of my questions. 4/5 Had to wait 15 minutes for my Bento box. Granted, it was on a Sunday at 11:45am, however, they had sufficient manpower. 2/5 Chicken teriyaki bento: include were 3 fried gyozas, 4 California rolls, cabbage and broccoli, rice and chicken teriyaki. The gyoza s were soggy and not flavorful at all. The cal rolls were not well made and the rice was hard. The chicken teriyaki was very good. The sauce was amazingly good. 3/5 Parking: Mall parking Food court ambience.

all year round! It's always a pleasure to grab a quick, hot chicken teriyaki at Sarku Japan in Plaza Bonita Mall. The staff is incredibly friendly, and the waiting time is just right. The taste is consistently outstanding. I highly recommend everyone in the San Diego area stop by for a quick, tasty bite. Not only will you enjoy a delicious meal, but you'll also be in a prime location to do some shopping, hitting two birds with one stone. Highly recommend eating here!

One of my all time favorite restaurant at the inside of a mall. Most malls for some reason has Sarku and it's no different at Plaza Bonita. I was super hungry and really excited to get to purchase something from here. Most everything nowadays seems to cost on average above $10 for lunch so it was nice to get a good amount of food for the price. Super simple chicken and rice. While standing and watching them cook it fresh the smell just pulls you in. Most everyone I think were just excited as I was. It was probably the only place also inside the food court that had a line. It has been awhile since I had this and they have it down to a science. No matter what city I have eaten at Sarku and it all tastes just as yummy. Friendly Cashier as well.

Located in the Plaza Bonita Mall food court! Great food outlet!

REV has a history with Sarku Japan! Years ago I used to love eating there in the food court at Mission Vally while shopping. It was heartbreaking to see that there is no food court at Mission Valley now but this was taken care of when I visited Plaza Bonita and my eyes lit up when my looked up and saw the Sarku sign! I had to check it out! I have to say that there are some pretty good food outlets at this mall. But my sentimental feeling drifted toward the need visit Sarku Japan! First, I'll say that I like the food court at Plaza Bonita because it is clean and organized in appearance. There is a decent-sized seating area that's not difficult to navigate. The food court is next to the theater, so the convenience to visit one of these shops is a plus too. Second, my favorite meal at Sarku has always been the teriyaki chicken plate that comes with a vegetable medly, sticky rice, and teriyaki chicken cooked up on the fryer. It was clear that this Sarku was awesome as both of the plates I ordered were cooked perfectly and the veggies were greener than I had ever seen them at a Sarku outlet. Can't tell you how special it was to have that meal again! Sarku is a true fast food outlet but it never feels that way to me. There is not a lot of complexity in this meal or in the beef plate, but it is just plain out GOOD! I like Sarku. It's like there's a magnet that pulls me toward it whenever I'm in a mall that has one in its food court. This is a good Sarku Japan shop at Plaza Bonita. I could eat here anytime and surely will again. I encourage other to visit it as well! Recommend: HIGH

I am very happy this place is here. There used to be a Japanese food place before but it closed and was replaced with something else that didn't last. This was our 2nd time here. For less than $10 you can get a double chicken plate that lasts 2 meals. You can't beat that. The cooks are very nice, requested extra teriyaki sauce and our chicken well done. He said no problem and took care of us. The chicken was great and the rice and vegetables were fresh and not mushy and overcooked. We'll be back.

    Double Chicken Plate

Late Post: Actually ate here a few months ago. I used to go to either the Horton Plaza or Mission Valley locations...if they're even there anymore. Because of this pandemic. I haven't ventured out much. And a lot of restaurants are unfortunately closing. Glad to see this one closer to home is still around. There's something about their teriyaki chicken that draws me in. Maybe the sauce? Or the freshly cooked chicken? Or maybe the simplicity of just chicken, rice and veggies. Whatever it is, I could always go for an order of double chicken teriyaki. They're a simple operation. You order and they start preparing your meal. Freshly cooked and straight from the griddle to your plate (to go container). My only gripe is when there are multiple people waiting, some people don't keep track of when or what they ordered. So when the cook announces an order is ready. People don't know if it's theirs or someone else's. They don't say an order number. Just the type of food. This can be annoying because if there are 2 orders that are the exact same. The customer that is not aware of where in line they are, thinks that he/she is the only one that ordered that particular plate. So there is a little confusion and debate as to who's plate it is. I only bring this up because it's happened to me several times. Luckily, the cook pays attention and kind of directs customers with a little nod or eye contact. To let them know "Pssst, That's your order" I've tried a few of their items, but I've made the double chicken teriyaki my Go-To at Sarku.

They have a sushi bar and a teppanyaki grill side. I usually get the chicken teriyaki double meat. Comes with rice and veggies and I ask for extra sauce over the rice. So good ! Can feed up to 2 People. They have beef or shrimp as an option but I prefer the chicken teriyaki. They cook it right in front of you. Friendly service. It's located in the mall food court. Can be loud because of the exhaust vent above the grill and the crowd in the food court.

I especially loved their sandos--the chicken katsu and egg sandos were both really good, and the fruit sando was a nice sweet option. They also have a ton of onigiri and musubi to choose from, plus poke and katsu rice bowls if you want something more filling. And the service was so good as well Definitely a hidden gem if you're looking for a quick and affordable Japanese meal in the area. Outside esthetics is null, a place to miss because the facade was plain. Inside looks like a front for a different business. What's the theme here? They have seating but the place is not welcoming. I've been to Japanese restaurants with little to no patrons and the staff still greeted me. Asked the girl who was under 25 years old, who was busily working on something and she basically ignored me until I was ready to engage. First time in, I don't know anything and need help. Is there hat I can wear?? Newbie!! The hostess table has freshly made masubi, some are named and others are not. I was woeful by the pictures seen online and picked one called Poke and the other not marked which looked like spam on top of rice with a sweet chili sauce on top. Both of these were wrapped for "grab and go". I took a bite of the poke masubi with raw fish inside... insane to have raw in warm rice and it was OK. I was disappointed in my overall experience. And I will not be going back ever.
