The next weekend I went to a different optometrist. That optometrist was unable to help me, as these fools at Gateway Eye Associates had put a "prior authorization" on my insurance. I tried to call Gateway Eye Associates, but all on receives when calling them is an automated message directing one to their website. I ended up having to wait until Monday morning to call my insurance company and have them remove the hold. So, not only were they unable to help me, but they also prevented anyone else from helping me as well. Seriously: Don't go here.

This results, for my child and for me, in underutilization of our vision coverage (through which a vision exam is provided each year with $0 co-pay), and a $40 per person co-pay. So, our fees increased $80 this year for no good reason. Arbitrary changes that result in increased charges to customers (and no additional revenue for the provider) are bad business practice. Very displeased.

I called again to tell them that the glasses were only 6 months old and the arm broke off. Nobody got back with me. I am livid about the service. These glasses should have been under a warranty. I am now in Colorado and went to another eye dr., and they expressed how this office should have replaced these glasses. I called again and left another message with no response. I also called to have my prescription faxed to my new eye doctor and no one returned my call. This is UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!! I paid out of pocket over $1,000.00 for my glasses. Made it VERY clear I was there for an eye exam for new glasses. Apparently they decided, without my permission or consent, to run three other tests that I NEVER ASKED FOR totaling almost $200!!! I argued and she took one test off, but I still had to pay about $150 for tests that I did not want and did not ask for. Of course, I should have known better... one of the tests they also ran the last time I came in. When I complained online, the doctor emailed me the following: "Protocol has my staff give the patient a laminated card which explains the Optos Digital imaging process in full detail There is a section where the fee is stated and that the patient has the right to refuse. Some elect not to have this image taken but our office runs at an 88% acceptance level as the data obtained is extremely educational and helpful in getting a comprehensive evaluation of the ocular health. If this is a return annual exam, the staff re verify the need for the test and ask the patient if they have any objections to this procedure." Well, I can confirm that at NO POINT did ANYONE in this office communicate that these were optional tests NOT COVERED BY MY INSURANCE. I never in a million years would have agreed to extra tests. I just wanted a basic eye exam so I could get new glasses. That's it. Don't go here. And if you do, question EVERY SINGLE TEST to make sure they're not charging you for stuff you don't want.
