There's a good amount of seating but definitely call ahead to see how busy they are, especially on the weekend. We went on a weekday and were quickly seated. A lovely tea room with plenty of delicious lunch options in a quaintly decorated space highlighting all things tea. They recommend reservations but if you have a smaller group or a few people you can usually get in quickly. Their quiche is amazing and crustless with a delicious Hollandaise sauce. We also tried dessert which with a cup of tea is a perfect way to end a ladies afternoon out. I've been serval times now and service as well as quality was great each time. Sassafras Tea Room is Greenwood's biggest hidden gem. The moment you walk into Sassafras you will be warmly greeted as if you are visiting your loving grandmother. The interior (and exterior) takes you back and makes you feel warm and nostalgic. The food is absolutely off the charts. I usually order the Sassafras quiche that includes a delicious side salad. However, I add on a cup of chicken velvet soup. Truly one of the best soups I've ever had. The service is off the charts especially a young lady named Devi; she is a very special person. I love how the tea is served in a one of a kind tea cup with a unique tea pot. It's so eclectic and fun. Sassafras has an adorable area where they sell one of kind gifts as well as delicious baked goods. This is my new favorite place to buy gifts; plus the price point on all of their items are perfect. I visited with my daughter. It's a really cute place with a Victorian feel. The salad I ordered was great and very fresh. My daughter ordered a wrap and was very pleased. The tea cups are very tiny but super adorable. The server brought out a cute tea pot with hot water, so that we can refill our tea cups and keep our tea warm. The 1 person bathroom is super cute and very clean. They sell cute trinkets and unique gift items that you can purchase. It's an absolute adorable little tea place. Being our first time, we weren't sure what to expect but were pleasantly surprised. Our server was very friendly and personable. She was clearly knowledgeable about the menu and did her best to ensure our visit was enjoyable. The Duchess Tea includes: two teas, scones, three finger sandwiches, and a variety of treats. Our teas were hot and full of flavor and our food was fresh and filling. We liked trying the assortment of desserts and enjoyed each one that was served. Pretty restaurant found in an older two story home in Greenwood. The home had nice porches with tables but a little cool and breezy on this day. I was presented with a tea menu and lunch menu upon being seated. From the tea menu I chose the Almond Shortbread. They brought the bag and hot water to me in a cute little teapot and teacup and saucer. It looked like they were all different from one another looking around the room I was in. I dined upstairs. This tea selection was pretty tasty. I ordered the sassafras quiche which is their signature selection. The quiche is crustless and is bursting with feta cheese, spinach, and sun-dried tomatoes. It is topped with hollandaise sauce (a little too much of this for me). It comes with a side salad and a scone. The side salad was a simple mixed greens salad with a raspberry vinaigrette and that vinaigrette may have been my favorite salad dressing of the year! The scone was ok, I am not a huge fan of them. I dipped in my tea though. All of this for $17.57 and $16.90 if I pay with cash. What a deal. I will likely stop in again for lunch and try something different on their menu but I would say it is worth the stop and the service was excellent. They were very busy. read more

We were there for over an hour and a half before our salads and sandwiches were brought out. She seemed completely careless. Can't say anything good about it. My husband took me there today for my Bday lunch. The table we were seated at was wobbly and so we're the black chairs. I had the chicken salad (it was okay) a side salad (which was just greens with some dressing) and it came with a small scone. We each ordered a cup of the LS Ayres chicken velvet soup and it was just okay. We decided to have some dessert so we each ordered a petit four, which was frozen solid so we had to cut it up and let it thaw before we could eat it. With the subpar food and a waitress with zero personality we were disappointed, but to top it off as we were walking out my husband pointed out that I had sat in something black and it was on my pants. I have been wanting to go here for a while. I checked them out on Yelp before I went. They seem to have shining reviews for the most part. We went about 1 o'clock so we missed the lunch rush on purpose. There really wasn't anybody there when we got there. It's a very small dining area so I understand why they would take reservations. I guess we must've went on an off day because the server seemed a bit preoccupied and indifferent. We didn't get glasses of water as part of the standard offering. She didn't ask so we had to ask for them. She didn't check on us like she should have. Again, it was not busy at all. We ordered hot tea and it was OK. I didn't pay the bill, so I'm not sure if she charged each one of us separately for the tea, but we shared a pot. We ordered the Panini and the Grilled cheese. The food tasted OK, but I had a few issues with the salad not being anything special. It was just a smattering of plain lettuce (with nothing else) and the dressing. It was a raspberry vinaigrette, and it was decent. The problem with the sandwiches was basically that for the amount of money that you pay, it barely had any meat on it. I didn't take a picture of it, but I probably should have because it was super paltry. Barely one slice of each type of meat. It was super disappointing. A scone was hard and on the dry side. It was barely sweet and lacked flavor. We also ordered the chocolate pie dessert. It was just OK. I am guessing it was purchased elsewhere. After it was all said and done the tab ended up being over $40. It's quite a bit of cash for lunch. It was enough to fill you up without having to take anything home, but I still feel like for what you get it wasn't that spectacular or worth the price. Not sure if this place is black ppl friendly; waited over an hour on my first attempt at eating there with my little girl. The women that owns or operates the establishment has convinced me to give it another shot. Which I will at a later time and will update this. I have eaten at the sassafras before having lunch. I have always wanted to try High tea. I was expecting crumpets with a tower of other delights to be set before us. What we got was two tiers of a few finger sandwiches, and a small hand full of deserts. At $40 maybe I was expecting more than two tiers. A friend wanted to try a new restaurant in our area for lunch and I suggested Sassafras (this was my third time eating at Sassafras). Currently there is construction happening on Madison but Sassafras provided information about the construction via its Facebook page. We arrived around 12:30. There is a parking lot that is shared with the neighboring businesses. If you can't find a spot then there is also free parking on Madison and Wiley, which is 2 blocks from Sassafras. Sassafras is in an old house where the main dining is on the first floor. We ordered the grilled three cheese sandwich (me) and Monte Cristo sandwich (friend). Both sandwiches included a side salad with a vinaigrette dressing and small scone. My sandwich had not only three cheeses but bacon, pesto, and an onion ring. We ordered the house iced tea which was a mixture of different flavors. In addition to the sandwich, I also ordered a slice of cherry cobbler. We enjoyed the food, the tea, and environment. I also want to mention their afternoon tea. My husband booked an afternoon tea reservation for my birthday a few years ago. We opted for the Duchess Afternoon Tea which includes three different teas, sandwiches, and scones. I would love to go back with him and/or a friend and do afternoon tea again! read more

My first baby shower was thrown here. The cutest place in greenwood. The food was yummy too and everyone was so kind.

I don't drive by this part of Greenwood very often, but when I happened to notice this charming business on the north end of what is becoming a restaurant road, I made plans to check them out. So glad I did! The restaurant only has lunch service for customers to drop by, but if you are interested in experiencing a "High Tea", reservations can be made. High Tea starts at 2:30 p.m. I forgot to ask about minimums/maximums of parties, but they do have two levels of "teas", including tea, scones, sandwiches, and treats. This place is a beautifully decorated house that has the front area converted to the dining area, the middle of the house is the gift shop and lobby, and the back of the house is used for the kitchen. They have parking in the rear of the house and a long, low rise ramp for anyone needing it to reach the entry porch. Once inside, I was given a table by the fireplace. The room is laid out with water goblets, flowers in tea cups on every table, and silver chargers at each place setting. I was initially concerned that I was under dressed for the lunch, but even though it looks classy, casual is welcome. Whew! In fact, the whole experience made me feel like a guest in someone's home. Very personable and no pretentious behavior. I started off with one of the house teas. I went with a Cinnamon Orange Spice that had a wonderful aroma. A china tea pot of hot water was brought out so that I could refill my cup as needed. Very tasty! When my waitress mentioned that they had LS Ayres Chicken Velvet Soup, I said "Yes, Please!" and it was brought out almost immediately. Wow! I forgot how good this soup is. The creamy, yes velvety, consistency of the soup with diced chicken and lightly topped with herbs was so good! It is served quite hot, so be aware before your first spoonful. I also ordered the Sassafras Club Panini which comes with a side salad and a small scone. The Panini was generously stuffed with ham, turkey, provolone, spinach, bacon, and basil mayo. The ham was thin sliced but retained the cured ham taste with just enough salt. The flavors worked well. The salad, mostly field greens, was topped with Raspberry Vinaigrette that was excellent! And the scone, though smaller than most I have had, was a moist blueberry with whole blueberries inside. It was one of the best I have had! I was filling up, so I passed on the desserts, but I plan on returning soon to give more items a try. They have a limited number of options, but they do have sandwiches, soups, quiche, salads, and desserts. If you are near downtown Greenwood (Madison and Main area), why not break from your routine and give this place a try. It is filled with charm and a bit of nostalgia, and lots of great food!
