The beautiful wife was off today so we ventured out to brunch at Flapjacks & we are glad we did! Service was quick & friendly & the food was very good! The BW had a turkey Manhattan which she noted had real turkey pieces not deli in it. They also grilled the turkey instead of just throwing it on which she appreciated. I had an omelette with ham & cheese, hash browns ( which I had them put cheese on) & sourdough toast. We both agreed that our entrees were great & we finished everything. It's a breakfast place and they do breakfast well. Our server was very nice and efficient. I had an egg white omelette with spinach and bacon and Swiss. It was good. Very solid breakfast/lunch spot on the Southside! We arrived at 11:30am and it was busy but we were still able to be seated right away. The space has a diner vibe with lots of booths, it's very casual. Service was speedy and we never had to wonder where our waitress was. We ordered the mushroom and Swiss omelette, along with eggs and links. Everything was delicious and came out of the kitchen in about ten minutes. They have a large menu of breakfast and lunch items with something for everyone. Pretty average breakfast place. It's always crazy to me when a place is named after a kind of food and the food it's named after isn't very good. They have my least favorite pancakes of anywhere in the local breakfast market. Very busy all the time. Inside of the building is dull colors. The server was nice and took care of us even though she brought the wrong food at first. However, she made it right very quickly. I got the French toast and hash browns. It was good the hash browns were buttery and crispy but needed salt. The French toast was fine nothing special. We also got an omelette which came with two sides. She got grits and has browns. This is a nice little hole in the wall cafe. They have an adequate private parking lot and a very friendly staff. The place has an old school vibe. They have limited bar seating (much of it was blocked off from food delivery service pick up) and a medium sized dining room. I chose to get comfortable in one of their booths. They serve breakfast (all day) and lunch favorites including french toast, omelettes, burgers, sandwiches, crepes, hash browns, corned beef hash and of course pancakes. Be sure to check their daily special. I ordered the Mexican Sausage Skillet. It took about 10 to 15 minutes me to get my food, which I thought was decent considering how busy they were. It came with a side of pancakes. To top it all off, I got some of their OJ to wash my meal down. The OJ was OK (no pun intended). It did not have the fresh squeezed taste that I was expecting though. The skillet and pancake were good. Your typical cafe style. It came out fresh and piping hot. It was a lot of food and they filled me up. I could not eat it all and had to take my remaining food home. If you are getting your food to go, the restaurant has the option of calling in your order and having it ready when you get there. I came here with my friend on a Sunday at noon and it was popping! We were seated pretty fast and service was also fast. I got a Western omelette and an order of French Toast. The omelette came with toast and I asked for my hashbrowns extra crispy. The omelette was super yummy and hit the spot because I've been craving diner/breakfast food. The French Toast was okay. The pancakes smelled amazing! Flapjacks was recently added on DoorDash (or I just hadn't noticed it before). It's my brothers favorite breakfast restaurant so I thought I'd give it a try. I could smell the pancakes before I even opened the container. The portion sizes were huge! I had the Mexican omelet and pancakes, but I think I'd try something different next time. About 3 or 4 weeks ago, my best friend and I once again visited this restaurant after a long hiatus. I asked our young waitress a very specific question: is the buttery stuff that comes with the waffle 100% butter, or is it something else, a blend or whatever. She answered that it was 100% butter. When the food came to our table I thought it might have been 'whipped' butter, but was very unsure what I was actually eating. I don't eat margarine or butter flavored condiments, which is why I had asked my very specific question. I realized later that I had been probably eating something else other than butter. When we left I asked to speak to the manager, who told me that what they served is margarine. I did point out that I had asked a particular question before even ordering, and would not have ordered something I knew came with margarine. The info I had received was incorrect. The manager then proceeded to defend her waitress saying she didn't make the mistake on purpose. The waitress was not being attacked at all. I replied that I did not think the mistake was done on purpose. The manager missed the underlying problem altogether. Wait staff that are trained well know to ask someone 'in the know' when a question like that is put to them and they are unsure. Our waitress didn't really know the answer and should have asked someone who would know. I really left with a sick feeling that I had eaten something I never would have, even though I had taken precautions by asking beforehand. The manager didn't even offer to comp the cost of the waffle, although that wasn't the whole point. Good management doesn't go on the defensive when a valid issue is brought to their attention. They should look into educating their staff about these kinds of questions. For example, if someone asks about a food containing peanuts or nuts when they have an underlying allergy, they need to receive correct information. I thought the manager was really lame in how she responded to my comments, and also in how she just let it drop without showing any kind of responsibility. She could have just responded "we need to let our staff know to ask, when asked", and "I would at the very least offer to comp out the cost of the item that was incorrect", and "we will work on better training in the future, thank you for letting me know about this". I used to really like this place, but will probably never go there again. read more

Food is very good. Service is horrible and the menu misleading. I have eaten the same thing for two years when we choose to order for the office but the day that I mistakenly order a Protein omelette as opposed to my usual Meat Lovers omelette, I get charged $30 for my meal! While it does state "no sides", it's essentially the same thing. Ultimately it is my fault but the staff and manager could have been more accommodating for a frequent customer as opposed to simply, "it's all your fault" service. One of my all-time favorite breakfast places located on the south side of Indy. I always order the Hash Browns with gravy and 2 eggs over easy with a side of a pancakes. It's a special at the shop and always delicious. The coffee is to die for and I could honestly just come here for a cup of Joe every morning. They have plenty of dine-in tables available that have dividers to help with social distancing. Staff were friendly and fast. FlapJacks is that one local place you think of on your way to work when you decide you don't want your boring veggie muffins for breakfast. I had a craving for bacon and thought I'd call in an order on my way to work. The 2 egg breakfast is a perfect fill up! Apparently they are new to Door Dash so orders are piling in a bit more than usual and it appears they are just getting the hang of it. Good for them though! I love to see local restaurants with a spike in business. I couldn't get through on the phone but it's close so I just popped in and waited. Their bacon is some of the best ever. (It's a great option for the days after drinking too.) I've only had their Madison location, but I can only imagine they are all just as good.
