So glad I discovered this adorable cafe on Yelp while I was in town for a work trip. It was a rainy Friday morning and after checking out of my hotel, I needed a quiet place to work for a few hours, a strong blast of caffeine, and something to eat. The moment I walked in the doors of Fire & Ice I knew Yelp did me good! The space is bright with a modern farmhouse feel to it. There's a fireplace, lounge seating, tables and chairs, and even a bar area (that's where I decided to sit). The ladies behind the counter were nice and gave me some recommendations. I went with their banana bread latte with oat milk and one of their biscuit sandwiches with egg and American cheese. Both were absolutely delicious and I would order again. I'll add that the restroom was clean, but the wifi wasn't that great. I ended up using my hotspot while I was there. This place is also women-owned and totally gluten free. Always excited to try a #NewToMe place and also one that is gluten free, as my dining companions need that for medical reasons. The inside is bright and comfortable. There are a variety of tables, also some comfy corner chairs. You order at the counter then they'll bring food to you. We all got (plain) coffee. There's a small sugar station on the end of the counter, but you have to ask for cream. I also told a staff member none of us had been there before, and asked were there coffee refills (since the rest was specialty coffee drinks) or do we pay? She said we can have one refill if we come up. My friends got gluten free egg/biscuit sandwiches. The hubs got a crepe with strawberries, bananas and more in it. I ordered the Galette Bretonne - which is described as "a savory light Buckwheat crepe with City ham, Gruyere cheese, with sunny side up egg" and also comes with a side salad. Our food came fairly quickly. The crepe was visually pretty. The biscuit sandwiches looked like they had nice fluffy biscuits (and, gluten free!) - but they were on the small side (smaller than an egg mcmuffin). My galette looked nice but not like the photo (see pics of mine & one from their web) - and the egg inside was well done, definitely not sunny side up or even medium. I don't mind harder cooked eggs, but the whole effect was very dry, so I went to the counter to ask for some syrup. The server told me that he would have to charge me for it. I said fine, yes please, because my dish is so dry it's unedible without it. So he went back in the kitchen and did bring me out a small side dish of syrup (see also pic of that, for size). I had my credit card ready, but he said "this one's on me." I thanked him and sat down to eat. ... and yes, that syrup was just the trick to make the dish delicious! So this is the thing that makes a whole experience "meh" as opposed to "really nice": Between me & my hubs, our food and plain coffees were $42. (My friends paid separately for theirs.) For that price and just counter service, if a guest asks for a small side of syrup for the food, there should not be a side charge. I think the server who gave it to me realized that (but I would have paid it anyway because the meal was just too dry without it) ... But here's the thing - there was another staff member at the counter when my server gave me that little side of syrup. She heard him say "no charge this time," and her expression absolutely changed, and she looked mad that he did not charge me, and like she was about to say something (but didn't). Guess what? I absolutely saw that. And I totally feel like she was not only mad, but also that he might get reprimanded for it. (Might I add, we were also there when it was NOT busy at all, so there was nothing about the atmosphere that was rushed or hectic - although that souldn't matter, either.) And yes, of course when I went back to the table, I relayed that story to my other 3 companions. A little (little!) customer service goes a long way. Stopped into Fire and Ice for a planning meeting with my wife, and it immediately felt like one of those hidden neighborhood spots you could easily pass on your daily commute without realizing what you're missing. My wife is already plotting a return just to sit by the chairs near the fireplace. The menu isn't extensive, but it's thoughtfully done--just right for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. I walked into Fire and Ice Cafe thinking that this was just a typical coffee shop. I walked out thinking, "What the heck is this place? I need to visit again soon!" Fire and Ice Cafe does serve coffee, but they have so much more. It's really a restaurant that serves all gluten-free foods, including crepes, biscuits and gravy, sandwiches, baked goods and lots more. There are also vegan salads and falafel bowls, quiches and something called mittagessen, a sausage, potato and sauerkraut salad. The menu has a slight German tinge to it -- just a whisper of Deutschtum. I didn't try any of the food on this visit; I just popped in to get a cup of coffee to go. But I'll be returning to sit and enjoy a leisurely breakfast or lunch, and maybe even work remotely from the beautiful, light-filled cafe dining room. I'm not a gluten-free eater, but I'm not NOT a gluten-free eater, you feel me? I'm not opposed to gluten-free food, especially when there are so many creative options, like at this place. read more

It was nice to step into a restaurant where all of the food offerings are gluten free! When you walk in you are greeted with an old parlor-type vibes...with the retro style chandeliers and tables...it was very cozy and pretty. I ordered a meal that included knackwurst, sauerkraut and German style potato salad...complete with the stone ground mustard. Overall, it was very tasty...there were some bites of the potato salad where the potatoes were underdone and not soft...but, those things can happen.:) I had also ordered the hot chocolate...it was OK as far as hot chocolate goes...I added whipped cream and was surprised to see the charge be $1 additional, especially since it was not a big amount...I feel that 25 cents or at most 50 cents would have been more reasonable... Just discovered this place online and since I hadnt been before decided to give it a try. I have to say when I looked at their menu online the food sounded good and I loved the fact they supported local businesses. I ordered a bacon, egg and cheese biscuit and an iced toasted marshmallow latte. I decided to sit outside since it was pretty crowded inside . And the outside tables were shaded. The service started out strong. They brought me out water. But after waiting what seemed like a really long time, I hadn't even received my latte. So I went back in and mentioned I had received my order yet. They admitted they had forgotten about me since I was sitting outside. They did promptly bring out my food after I said something. I met a former colleague for brunch at Fire and Ice Cafe to try out a new place and was very impressed with the menu and ambiance. This is a small venue with a very quaint ambiance and attractive looking decor all around the venue. The menu is very diverse and has a little bit of everything. I walked up to the counter to place my order and was greeted with a big smile from the woman who took my order. I decided to go with the quiche with a mixed greens salad and a chai latte. The woman kindly said they would bring the order to the table when it was ready. My former colleague ordered the biscuit with gravy. We received our orders within 15-20 minutes. The presentation of the quiche was very nice. The quiche tasted immaculate and was light and fluffy. It had a lot of flavor to it which I loved. The light mixed greens salad was a good side to the quiche and very fresh. My former colleague loved her biscuits and gravy and said it was the best she had had in a while. The chai latte was excellent and tasted amazing. The pastry display was nice and looked incredible, but I did not get a pastry because I wanted to be good and cut back on sweets. The overall dining experience at Fire and Ice Cafe was terrific and the staff were very hospitable and took excellent care of us. It was a pleasant way to start a morning with brunch and would highly recommend Fire and Ice Cafe to all my friends looking to try a new place for brunch. With Indiana's recent adverse weather, I'll admit that I've been struggling to keep up with my Yelp review regime. I live fairly close to 62nd and Allisonville on Indy's Northeastside and have been wanting to check out a couple new businesses that have opened up in the same strip center as Some Guys and the former Big Lots space (Big Lots recently closed). It's a renovated strip center that was just aching for some new businesses and now it has them. My first visit was this morning's visit to Fire and Ice Cafe, an all gluten-free cafe that also serves up a nice variety of coffees, teas, and other beverages including Ash & Elm Cider. This is a breakfast/brunch spot with a clean, casual vibe that felt comfortable very quickly. I am sometimes hesitant to serve up a 5-star review. I think sometimes it raises expectations unrealistically. For some, it's a "best of the best" rating or screams out "awesome" or "dazzling." However, I tend to believe in the quieter 5-star review as well. These are places where you enter and you feel welcome and you quickly think to yourself "this is my kind of place." Fire and Ice Cafe is my kind of place. It's a place of simplicity with a fairly simple yet winning menu, a clean but comfortable interior, friendly but not obnoxiously friendly employees, and just a place I enjoyed being. I sat there and had my light offering, Americano, and did some reading and just really enjoyed myself. I was initially a little irritated as I arrived and the ramp right outside the former Big Lots was snow-packed. Ugh. This is common, of course, but I at least had a nearby ramp I could still use. However, as I entered I noticed there was another ramp directly next to Fire and Ice that was beautifully cleared and salted (so it was an intentional choice) and it worked beautifully. The entry is a single glass doorway that goes directly into an open-concept dining area. The ordering counter is toward the back and clearly visible. The dining area is mostly tables with some table/bench combos and a nice area near an electric fireplace. The interior is mostly white/off white with some natural wood decor. The menu is pretty simple and, yes, it's ALL gluten free. The owner, whom I believe is Lara, has family members with Celiac disease and has grown in her knowledge of cooking gluten-free. There is egg in a lot of their stuff, however, I was able to order my item without egg (I do have an allergy). They have breakfast sandwiches, biscuits, some pastry options, Mittagassen (a German sausage), crepes, French Galette (with City Ham from Smoking Goose), and more. They also plan to offer an English tea service soon! I ordered a Biscuit with bacon and pepperjack cheese. It also comes with egg, though I requested and received it without. I also ordered an Americano (quad). They also have water that they will provide - a nice touch. My somewhat light breakfast came in at around $13. You can spend more. You can spend less. I find the prices consistent with most coffeehouses and also consistent with gluten-free items. I actually asked as I was leaving if everything was gluten-free. The biscuit sandwich was so tasty that I was honestly surprised. I would easily order it again and plan to do so. So, this isn't a "blow you away" 5-star experience. It's more of a quiet 5-star experience with a winning and comfortable atmosphere, friendly employees, good and healthier food, and fair prices. Welcome to the neighborhood, Fire and Ice. I appreciated the fact that their kitchen is allergen friendly, free from gluten, fish, peanuts, tree nuts, etc. I can't say I know any other restaurant in Indy that offers such a diet-friendly menu. And based on my experience, you're not sacrificing taste either when you dine here! I tried the stacked quiche, which had a fun pancake base and was dressed with a flavored balsamic vinegar that complemented it well. Fire & Enema Cafe. Stopped in and got the ham and egg crepe and potato salad. Crepe was ok, but not even close to worth the $20 I paid for it. Star of the show was the potato salad...at least it was a couple hours later. First red flag should have been that it was lukewarm - being German potato salad, it should be hot. Initial experience was pretty mid, but that evening was an extravaganza of vomiting and intestinal liquefaction. Maybe I just got them on a bad day, but felt I spent way too much money for not such a great dining experience and a sleepless night on the floor in front of the toilet. The biscuit sandwich with bacon pepper jack cheese was delicious and felt healthy. Seasoned well with herbs that I could see. Also looked like a work of art. The quiche stack was also tasty and the dressing on the salad was delicious! It was a balsamic vinaigrette. They are not a traditional breakfast place but so wanted something different and that's what I got. This is not too far from where I live, and somehow I didn't realize it was there until later in 2025. What I was missing out on! Now I'm a regular about every week or two! My husband and I ate breakfast at Fire and Ice Cafe yesterday at 62nd and Allisonville . We have a couple of family members who are gluten sensitive so we thought we'd scope it out for them. All their offerings are Gluten Free which we're used to eating and we think is just as tasty as wheat flour food. F&I cafe has very hip, clean and comfortable decor. They have a pretty extensive menu leaning towards German fare. We ordered the Spinach Feta Quiche stack of the day with warm German potato salad as our side and both items were delicious! The owner came out to greet us and she was very gracious. One thing I especially liked was no paper napkins! They use damask cloth napkins thus no paper waste!
