We had only been here twice in the past and would have never gone back if there hadn't been a new owner. The first time we went wasprobably right around when things opened up after Covid. It was not great and we had no intention of going back. A while after that, we knew someone who played in a band that was playing at Satchmo's. We ate before we went there with another couple. There was nobody there (other than us) that wasn't "with the band" and that was only about 6-8 people. I had heard they were under new ownership and that it was way better than before. Some friends asked us to join them there on a Friday night and we went. It was so much better than it had been, but there weren't very many people there. Honestly, I think they should have changed the name. I have discovered that a lot of people didn't like it and hadn't realized there was a change in ownership. We had no trouble getting a table! Both our server, and the bartender, were great! Unfortunately I didn't get their names. They were both fun and took good care of us. The menu looks pretty good. The space was nice and clean. There are a lot of televisions - lots of games can be watched! I would say my only issue was my entree. I got the fish and chips, which I believe was a special. It wasn't great. It was two pieces of fish that were a bit too greasy and some fries. No slaw or anything else. We would definitely go back! read more

We have lived in the area for over 30 years and I have no idea why we've never tried this place until recently! It is amazing. The restaurant is very cozy & clean. The bar is well stocked, and looks very cool in the middle of the restaurant. There are many TVs, and The wood floors & brick wall make the atmosphere also very quaint. The service is amazing, and tonight we were served by Bridget, who also goes by Bob. She was super friendly, gave us recommendations, and was very attentive without being overbearing. You could tell she's very good at her job and loves being here. We've already been here twice since we discovered this gem, and plan to make this a weekly visit. Went on a Saturday at 5:30 pm after being out of town a few months & met with aggravation from some big group there that we had the audacity to sit down. Evidently Satchmo's caters to this private group so the other patrons must wait. SATCHMO'S SHOULD CLOSE OR POST A SIGN THEY WILL BE WAITING ON THEIR PRIVATE PARTY FIRST OR CLOSE TO THE PUBLIC FOR THIS KIND OF THING. WE WATCHED THE ENTIRE OTHER SIDE OF THE RESTAURANT WALK OUT while the waitress & bartender catered to this private group. We waited an hour and a half for our food while the private party patrons kept coming in; their drinks & food was out in most mites. Then the entire bar area left. We should have left too. They should have blocked off the private party instead telling us to sit wherever we wanted & then be ridiculed for having the nerve to come into the restaurant. SHAME ON YOU SATCHMO'S FOR KEEPING YOUR DOORS OPEN TO TAKE MONEY FROM THE PUBLIC BUT HAVE YOUR STAFF ONLY WAIT ON YOUR GROUP. NOT FOR THE PUBLIC. THIS IS A PRIVATE CLUB. This place just reopened under new owners with menu changes and updated interior. They have full bar, happy hour drink specials and hopefully they will get their music license back so they can have tunes soon. Service was good as was food . The menu is limited with a few unique items. So I had the Monte Cristo sandwich and was surprised how delicious it was, it's very filling so enough to share , husband had patty melt and was pleased with his choice. read more

My husband had a salad and wings, the salad us the best bar salad in Chesterfield. The best part was the Death by Chocolate dessert. It was wonderful. We will definitely come back. An ode to Satchmo's. This restaurant, at its present location, under its (until recently) previous owner, is just slightly older than me at this writing. It's been a constant presence in my life even before I could legally consume alcohol, and had been an introduction into the bars one typically associated with noir films and 1980's flicks- The lights were traditionally fairly low and gave the bar and restaurant a mysterious, if sometimes difficult to see flair. It was open fairly late and the kitchen kept serving food fairly long into the night, when its immediate competitors (literally next door or down the street) would often either switch to appetizers only, or stop serving food at all. It was loud! Which makes sense since there's literally a small stage right next to the entrance. I'm typically a solitary drinker and on most evenings I'd shy away from this sort of environment. But it was an easy place to disappear into a crowd, so to speak. Despite the numerous patrons the live bands often drew, the service did its best, even on days with few on the clock. But i'm mostly a food reviewer rather than a music venue connoisseur. In that realm, I always appreciated receiving emails via their membership letting me know about their specials, which ran the gamut of a New Orleans classic or a standard item on sale. I first started eating here mostly for the burger deals, which some ten years ago was a deal indeed (like 7 bucks for a mighty burg, fries, and a drink), and over time moved onto other items on the menu. Before Satchmo's, I didn't even know Alligator was edible, much less fried and breaded. When it was cooked fairly well, about 80% of the time, it had the consistency of honest to god chicken nuggets, with a slightly fish-like after taste. At worse it sometimes came out tough, probably from overcooking. This leads to my only real criticism of this restaurant. The service does its best with its availability- I won't fault the waitstaff occasionally struggling on days when the place is packed from trivia night or a band. But the food sometimes ran the danger of arriving "just ok," and it didn't survive delivery very well. Normally this should be a cause for removing a star, but I won't this time. In the first place, that's asking too much of bar food- its meant to be eaten then and there. And in the other place, i'm biased- biased in the way that someone can be when they're informed that a yet another constant in their life is going away. At this writing, after my meal, I was informed that Satchmo's had been purchased some three months ago by a new owner- they had apparently changed the menu and only kept a few of their choice cajun dishes, like this excellent Jambalaya I ate this evening. Apparently, they're moving to the empty building where Granite City Pub used to be, and rebranding. The taste of this Jambalaya was exceptional- i'm sure the new business will do well. But it won't be my Satchmo's. Not the Satchmo's that hardheadedly almost got closed by the city for... let's say, pandemic drama. Not the Satchmo's that successfully argued for the allowance of... delivery cocktails. (Come on, no matter how that concept sounds, they deserve props for getting the city to let them do that.) Not the dark, dank, loud and stereotypical pub that I used to be afraid of growing up, only to find that inside, the people were like anyone else. I took for granted that a place that survived the pandemic would last forever. But at least I got to have my last supper here end on a good note. With a pint of Oktoberfest and a massive plate of Jambalaya. Godspeed, Satchmo's. I'll miss you. read more

Service was excellent. Typical bar & grill menu. Ordered the sirloin steak from the menu. Not the place to really order a steak, but was ok. Fries were ok also. But the broccoli was sort of chopped up into little pieces. Like what happens when it's been frozen and thawed. They had A1 sauce, but no Worchester sauce. Both are considered to be a bar staple. Waitress - Efficient, polite, and extremely helpful. Food - room for improvement. Cod fish and homemade chips - Actually not impressed with small and OVERCOOKED cod. Homemade chips decent but not exciting. I will not order again! Loaded nachos - Very large order. Super super salty entree. Melted cheese...my wife didn't like. Sent order back...could not eat. On a positive the presentation looked most appealing!! Management offered goat cheese appetizer at no charge to make up for nachos. read more

I had a meal picked up from here today, and although the person picking up the meal said it smelled greasy, it didn't look or seem like any other bar and grill. I ordered the shrimp and grits and reviews were either really good or really bad so I knew I was in for something I really liked it something I hated. The shrimp and grits were actually very good. There needed to be more shrimp (we were told 8 per dish) and I think I had half that amount if even. There was a lot of the chorizo and the tomato gravy while too much for the amount of grits... it tasted fresh and was actually something that had me searching it to see what exactly was in it to try to replicate something similar. It was quite a filling dish and I was very happy I ordered it. It seems to me that the seafood dishes get praises and reasonably priced seafood dishes are needed in this area. I did not go there due to illness, so I cannot speak to ambiance or service but I specifically asked if it was very loud (a common complaint) and the person picking up my order said no. It did take about twenty minutes from time of order to receipt but again, this dish tasted fresh with sauce that seemed to be house made and cooked to order so the wait was not such a big deal. I have only ordered food here once but based on this particular experience, I would definitely go back. read more

Happy hour at 4 pm. Had only 3 spa on special and one was sold out. Had the chicken wings. Had both kinds. The fried plain with sauce on the side were great. Would like more sauces. The dry ribbed smoked very disappointing. They were not crispy as the smoke them and then bake in the oven. Dinner menu was not exciting. Very good food menu with friendly, efficient service! Think it was louder tonight with live music (on Saturday 730p); and ambience was casual, relaxed but quite dim. For sports fans, they have several TVs around the bar/restaurant but not so many it overtakes the atmosphere. My first try here, enjoyed sharing the fried green beans appetizer. Basket was served hot with 2 dip sauces; liked the aioli but my favorite was the wasabi dip - really nice flavor if you like a little hot spicy kick! Also tried the Gumbo soup which was heavy with smoked sausage, shrimp, large diced veggies and a flavorful gumbo taste. For dinner, shared a Caesar salad that had tasty, creamy dressing and The Brick sandwich, tender roast beef slices with jalapeño cheese plus I added grilled onions and mushrooms on grilled Texas toast - enjoyed both! The fries were just OK (had much better) so I'd suggest ordering Coleslaw, chips or a different veggie side next time. Overall solid experience for a quick casual meal out, and there are plenty of other dinner and menu selections to choose, so I'd go back and try again. Enjoy! read more

Love this place, sometimes you can catch owner Ben Brown visiting the guests - he clearly cares about his patrons. Most recently, Ashley served us and was attentive and efficient. I ordered the Eggs Benedict with sweet potato fries for Sunday brunch. Fries were excellent (crispy with perfect saltiness) and, since I asked for the eggs to not be runny, they delivered--with excellent hollandaise to boot. read more

Lost their mojo. What used to be a fantastic local bar has become a poor attempt at upscale dining. Menu changes from Covid era were questionable and the most recent reinvention of the menu leave's everything to be desired. Glad we have other options. Used to love Satchmos- was our go to place. I took advantage of Satchmo's burger night last night, which occurs every Thursday. The promo is $3.99 for a basic burger and fries with a beverage purchase. I also ordered a side Caesar salad. I was appalled to see that the caesar was literally 3 stalks of romaine UNCUT, topped with cheese, croutons and drizzled with dressing. I could've had that at home! To me it read "lazy". Why not cut the lettuce. My burger and fries were good and the drinks were strong. Similar to the last time i came, the service was lacking. I was sat in the back corner of the packed restaurant in a booth that was right in front of the wait staff station. I was ignored for a long time until a waitress asked me if anyone had helped me yet and i said no. She apologized and said it was a miscommunication on their part. She was friendly and my service was decent but i wasn't really checked on while eating at all. Again they were busy, so i understand. Now, both of the two times i have come here, service hasn't been the best, once when they weren't busy and once when they were. I'm not sure if Satchmo's will get a third chance from me or not. read more

This place sucks. I ordered fish and chips and my fricken hands turned yellow for a week. I had to lie to all my friends (ok, I only have 1 friend) but I had to tell him I accidentally fell asleep with a highlighter in my hands. It was less embarrassing than saying I ate lunch at Satchmo's. Pros: Cons: this place sucks. Their food sucks. Their prices suck. The atmosphere sucks. I had a long day and really needed to go home and unwind but was really hungry and felt like if I didn't eat on the way home I wouldn't eat because I wasn't leaving the house again. I decided a cheeseburger was what I needed and met a friend at Satchmo's on the way home which is less than 10 minutes away. I had been there once for a drink but never for food. They were pretty busy. I ordered the Tavern burger medium with blue cheese crumbles and my dinner date got the same only medium well with pub cheese. We were both thrilled with our burgers. My was juicy and pink how I like it. So many restaurants are afraid to leave a little pink on a burger and really overcook it. Not this one! Our server was a bit of a ditz but you can't have everything. They have specials most nights of the week. I'd go back for another burger! read more

Second time visiting Satchmo's. I'm guessing they are having some staffing problems. Food quality was poor this visit. Seafood spinach dip was served cold with stale chips. Grilled Chicken Salad Explosion had grill debris from burgers on the grilled chicken and cooked into the quesadilla. The blackberry Margarita was perfect. Unfortunately, I had to go to the bar and place a separate order because no one attended to us after we were seated. Service was not attentive. Staff did not complete basic steps I am used to when I am spending over $100 for 2 at dinner. The Tuna Wonton appetizer was great. Gator, Shrimp and Crawfish entoufee was incredible. We order the King's Ransom to go for our 16 year old. We were not permitted to substitute French fries for the baked potato. Which is fine, but based on all the quality and service issues, telling us "No" on this simple request did not sit well. We will not return. Maybe it was just an off night. The lack of acknowledgement was really the primary disappointment for us. We wanted to enjoy the evening and not spend it talking about the service and quality issues. Then to pay for an experience like this one is, of course, irritating. One note: the team member that started to take care of us after we had been waiting for 20 minutes attempted to connect with us, but did not appear to be empowered to do the right thing. A simple gesture, like an offer for a free dessert or remaking the Spinach dip with fresh chips and bread would have made a difference. I suppose some guests would demand a refund for at least some of the items. I just don't return. I don't like to force people to do the appropriate thing in my free time. I wish them the best. Unfortunately, this experience has left us in a place where we simply can not gamble on a repeat trip. Please consider additional training for the team. The business and the team members will be much more successful in the long run. I hope this feedback is helpful to the team. Oh, now we are waiting for the check. Being held hostage basically. I can think of many people that would have liked just left without paying. We have had to request or take action at every stage. We got our own napkins, had to fight for a drink, ask to have food heated up etc. Now we have to find someone and beg them for the bill to pay for an experience we wanted to enjoy, but simply could not. Wish someone would have warned me this is a crappy strip mall bar/restaurant I would have expected the poor quality of the food and service. Wings? Bland. Tasted like the were cooked hours in advance and kept warm. Had a better burger at White Castle. Watered down drinks. The clientele in this place - in the middle of a wealthy area of Chesterfield was more like what I expect at a place in a deep rural area - noisy and very inconsiderate of others. Overall one of the worst experiences I have ever had in a restaurant in St. Louis. I won't even mention that the tables should be getting wiped down and sanitized between customers. From the looks of it wiping off the tables ain't even a thought at this place and workers wearing a mask on their chin does no good at all. How does this place stay in business. read more

Fun little local sports bar and grill. Great service, and food is pretty good. Menu had a lot of variety for all taste buds. Chicken wings and the tuna wontons were great! The wasabi sauce on the tuna was delish! Southwest burger was flavorful, and Caribbean jerk chicken was very juicy, tender, and tasty. Holy cow! Waitress Sarah (don't know the spelling) was horribly rude to my table tonight. She talked about us to other customers and pointed at our table. She put a plate in a blind woman's face. She pointed her finger in a few people's faces and ignored our table by going through the back hallway. Overall started and ended the night very rude to us. read more
