Had to bring my husband here after he heard me talk about it. We reserved a table for dinner but initially sat at bar for a cocktail and an appetizer. The bartender makes a great old fashioned cocktail. It was so smooth. (It wasn't even my drink). They have lots of good wine options too. Meatball appetizer was okay IMO but hubs really liked it. Have to give that bartender a shout out because he was amazing. He did a great job of waiting on a full bar and a very party that came in for happy hour. And he was essentially by himself. No bar back. Sometimes other people did lend a hand but he did the bulk of it. When we sat at our table we also had good service. I again ordered beet salad but then got the gnocchi too. The gnocchi themselves were meh but the sauce was very tasty. The ribeye was very good and cooked just right. Side order of mushrooms were a little disappointing. We finished off with the brownie sundae. Best part of that was the ice cream. I mentioned my husband's birthday when I made the reservation but they didn't acknowledge it at all. We went as two couples and we all enjoyed our meal. Two people had the scallop special and I had the beef short ribs and a side of mushrooms. The ribs were excellent and something for which I will go back and the mushroom were good but not over the top like the ribs. The people who had the scallops were pleased. The fourth had a steak and enjoyed it and said it was cooked a little long for their liking. We had several different drinks and they were all excellent. We had a pretty large group and tried quite a few apps and had bottles of wine. I know we loved the apps and wine. The girls that got steak said they were fantastic. I love this place... let's start there! When I first arrived, I loved how the restaurant is set up. I actually got a table for one, but when I arrived, I wish I would've just sat at the bar because the bar was so cool. When I came in, everyone was pleasant brought me to my seat. My waiter was extremely attentive and pleasant. You could tell he knew the menu and made really good recommendations on drinks. I got an off menu salad to start and I don't think it's on the regular menu, but it was so good. It waa a Tomato watermelon and grilled peach salad with shaved Parmesan cheese. I could've had a whole platter of that salad and be satisfied lol. For my meal, I ordered the New York strip and fries (the fries was recommended by the waiter). The New York strip was good, the flavor was good. It was a little bit more fat for my liking, but overall it was cooked well and I didn't have any complaints enough to change my review because everything else about the service and the food was top-notch. I did have two drinks. I had the French Quarter, which was so incredibly good and refreshing. I'm willing to go back to that restaurant just for that drink! I also had their take on the smoked old-fashioned that had the pineapple and pepper in it. I love bourbon and I love boozier drinks, but that drink almost put me on my back. I think it may have been the peppers in the drink that pulled out the alcohol all I know is that drink was strong, but very good. I also got a slice of the carrot cake and that was literally some of the best carrot cake I've had in a very long time. I have no complaints about this restaurant. What a beautiful place. The bar is unique. It is sunken in and the patrons sit in a regular height chair. My favorite spot is the patio. It overlooks a beautiful park. The brussel sprout tacos are amazingly delicious. You must try! They have a good variety of cocktails as well. Our server was attentive and polite. Service - our server was attentive, freindly and full of information about the specials and was able to answer all the questions we had... and we had a TON between likes and allerigies. Food - you can tell the team spent a lot of time writing the menu and making everything perfect. Mussels - yumm! Califlower steak - our vegitarian said she would order again! That says a lot! Salmon and shrip special, my husband said was fantastic! File - was told the steak was cooked to perfection but he could not stop raving about the potatoes! Came in for lunch today with my mom and my daughter and all three of us ordered the Asian chicken salad. I had forgotten that for the strangest reason they use dark meat on their salad as opposed to chicken breast and it just kind of ruins the salad. My daughter found some bones/cartilage on her first bite of chicken and just had the ick after that. Other than that I have always enjoyed this place but I highly recommend you switch to chicken breast on your salads instead of the cheaper dark meat which doesn't really go in a cold salad. read more

We came here early on a Thursday night before the dinner rush and managed to get a table without reservations. The very handsome sweet Sam Z served us. This place is gorgeous--think half urban sophistication and half luxury lodge. Chairs are super comfy!! Normally I don't go burger and fries at a high-end restaurant but that's what I was in the mood for. I would literally come back just to eat this cheeseburger again: aged beef (medium) with gruyere, onions, and a super tidy layer of wilted greens on a perfectly toasted crisp brioche bun. Unbelievably delicate but flavorful. It came with a generous portion of garlic fries--some of them bordered on a touch soggy but they were still very good overall. We shared the beet salad beforehand; the beets were delicious, but the vinaigrette was mediocre. Our scotch came with the most beautiful etched ice cubes. My husband raved about his tenderloin with short ribs. Love the 1970s-80s upbeat playlist. The only holdout on five stars is because service was slightly slow and we weren't there during the rush. The garlic potatoes were drowning in a pool of butter. For the cost I had better expectations. The burger was WAAAAY too salty. The steak, although cooked medium rare was surprisingly tough. Taste was okay, but not what I had expected. Disappointing. So while I hate to throw up a 3 star, because I REALLY was excited to find this place, I just must based upon this experience. I'm banking on the fact that perhaps this was just an off night. The patio is shared with Wild Crush and makes for the perfect setting for a funny afternoon gathering, a calm and delicious evening meal, after work drinks. I actually think the spot is so well put together you could easily use it for a large group gathering, but you'd have to call about reservation size or rental. But on to the meat of it...C&C is on the pricer end, but you pay for quality and creativity, and it's 100% deliciously worth it. My group enjoyed two of the entree specials, short ribs and scallops, and shared the bread (fresh and so delicious with some amazing butter, I know, I know, butter is already good, but they made it better) and broccolini (that herb ricotta was delicious), and we all took home an order of the ricotta gnocchi (my mouth is watering now thinking about it). The meatball app was interesting with can excellent tomato puree, the Reggiano Parmesan was NOT Reggiano other whipped cheese was an interesting addition. The porterhouse was dry aged. They must dry the individual cuts and the the primal cut or the dry age was very short as it was nothing like the dry aged standard of Peter Lugers. The broccoli rabe had a great char. Service was professional and not overly involved (that is a positive) It was surprisingly empty for a Saturday evening. The entire facility was impeccably clean. Good food just not great. read more

We visited Cleaver & Cocktail for a belated holiday dinner with extended family. The restaurant's décor is really lovely--rustic yet refined. However, our reservation for five was squeezed into a four-top table, making it a tight fit. The cocktail menu was great, featuring a mix of classic drinks and creative house specialties. I started with a Manhattan, which was well-made. Although Cleaver & Cocktail is primarily a steakhouse, part of the same family as The Block in Webster Groves, their menu offers a variety of options, including seafood and chicken. We began our meal by sharing the off-menu special salad featuring apples. While it sounded promising, the salad turned out to be bland, likely due to the lack of dressing. On the other hand, the Italian Salad was delicious. For my main course, I embraced the "When in Rome" mindset and ordered the boneless ribeye cooked medium rare. Before placing my order, the server went out of their way to describe what medium rare meant, yet the steak was served medium. While the cut of beef was still delicious, it was a letdown given it was overcooked. The steaks are served à la carte, so I paired mine with roasted garlic mashed potatoes with herb butter, which were absolutely amazing--rich, creamy, and full of flavor. My dining companions chose seafood dishes -- the off-menu specials of scallops and grouper, as well as the pan-roasted swordfish. All four were pleased with their meals. Service was a mixed bag, alternating between overbearing attention and long periods where our server was nowhere to be found, requiring us to flag him down. Additionally, when we asked questions about specific wines on the list, our server wasn't knowledgeable and didn't offer to check with the bartender or another team member. Cleaver & Cocktail has potential but the inconsistencies in food preparation and service are disappointing. The beet salad was delicious; I really enjoyed the juicy sweet beets in the roasted beet salad with pistachio, fennel, and goat cheese. We also tried the whipped feta with crostini, and I highly enjoyed the veggie tacos appetizer. I ended up bringing most of my Grilled Beef Tenderloin entree home because I had to leave early, but even reheated, the beef and sous vide short ribs was so tender in a melt-in-your-mouth kind of way. This was one of the best meals I have had in an incredibly long time. I ordered the filet with roasted potatoes and modified a bit for the garlic butter and blue cheese crumbles. I ordered it medium rare and it was positively perfection - one of the best cuts I have ever had and that is not an exaggeration. The wine list/options are wonderful and their happy hour options are better than most of what I The service was attentive, fast, polite, incredibly knowledgeable about everything on the menu including gluten-containing items for me. We sat out on the patio and it was positively delightful. There is a little gift shop next door and inside the main hall it is incredibly well-decorated, maintained, and romantic/fancy/moody(?) - a huge anniversary party was being served at a table of 30-40 people and we chatted with them as we left and they said their large party was handled EXPERTLY and their food was amazing. We came here to celebrate my and a friend's birthday and overall had a really nice experience. The server was kind and even brought out a dessert for us, which we appreciated. The drinks did take a while to come out, but she was busy so it was understandable. The only downside was at the end of the night. We finished dinner and ordered one more drink before close. While we were wrapping up, the server was cleaning around us and seemed annoyed. We offered to move to the bar to make it easier, but she responded that it doesn't matter where we sit it will be dirty anyway, which felt a bit off especially considering we had each spent close to $200. We left shortly after around 9:20. It did put a slight damper on the night, but I would still come back and give it another try. When Cleaver & Cocktail first opened, I was interested in checking it out. The reviews were not good, so I passed. Time went on and I kind of forgot about it. I had dinner with a friend last week and she wanted to go here. She and her husband had been here a few times and enjoyed it. The inside looks very appealing. It was a nice night so we opted to sit outside. They have a rather large patio that overlooks a nice green space. You really don't even notice how close to a road you are. It's pretty to look at and you can't hear cars. The hostess was friendly and seated us right away. Our server came to the table within a minute or two. We were given a carafe of cold water and he took our drinks order. When our cocktails were delivered he went over all the specials and some of the menu items with us. (He had already covered cocktail specials before we ordered our drinks.) Our server was Taga (I believe that's how it's spelled) and he was a really good server. He didn't hover, but had great timing! We both enjoyed our meals and the outdoors! They also play music outside - I'm guessing inside too! It was at a nice background level and a nice playlist. I went again a few days later with my husband. We went on a weekend night and it was much more crowded. The service was good, but nowhere near as good as a few nights before. We did like our drinks and dinner. The whole experience was just less than the first night I went. The menu is small and probably not for everyone. I'm a bit picky and there wasn't a lot I would eat on the menu. I had a burger the first time and it was really good. I got a strip steak the second time and was a little underwhelmed. The prices aren't listed on the menu and I forgot to ask. I almost never order steaks out because my husband makes the best steaks I've ever had and the price isn't ridiculous. This strip steak was 18 ounces (I brought some of it home). It was fatty and had a large bone. I've never had a strip steak on a bone before. The amount of meat was less than I've had on a much smaller strip. And it was $65. This restaurant is owned by the same group/people who own The Block. We do not like The Block because all we taste is salt. We tried it twice a year or so apart and it was awful. We were in a group of 5-6 people each time and nobody could eat their meals. My husband asked our server if the steak is really salty and he said yes. We requested they pull way back on it and they did. I imagine we'll go back! read more

Visited this beautiful place for the first time last night and had a lovely experience! Though the rain tried to scare us away, we found our way to the back patio -and what a gorgeous setting! Outside the massive barn-like building sits a spacious patio overlooking a serene city park. The lake, the trees and the birds made for an enjoyable view. We saw a heron, a family of Canada Geese with big fuzzy babies, a hummingbird -and swallows sailing around the entire time. There was even a chorus of tree frogs. Our waiter was professional and helpful with recommendations . My group tried the C&C cocktail, mojito and espresso martinis. Everyone enjoyed their beverages! We tried the burger, which was absolutely fantastic! I hate that we split it because it was really too good to share. The beet salad was beautiful and earthy. The garlic herb French fries were flavorful and satisfying, and we got the last cup of tasty truffle aioli to dip them in. The broccolini with ricotta was a very good side dish as well. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful and spacious, with low seating at the bar and cool lighting above it. An interesting music mix was playing. The owners were warm, friendly and accommodating. Can you remember coming across a new restaurant, where you had high expectations, and your experience far surpassed what you had imagined? Yeah, it doesn't happen that often for me either, but this right here is an one of those places. Being a fan of the Block, when I found out that this restaurant is from the same purveyors, I was super excited to check them out. Arriving for our 7pm reservations, we struggled a bit finding the location. There was no signage except for a small chalk sign by the front door. I am assuming the building sign is still coming...? Still, be sure and pay close attention to the map in order to find it. Tega greeted us at the table and quickly guided us through the drink menu. After a solid recommendation of a blood orange old fashioned with Angel's Envy Rye (my weakness), I was off to a great evening. This drink was superbly crafted! For an appetizer, we split the whipped feta and it was freaking amazing. It was the perfect amount of tangy, briny, creamy goodness served with these addicting crostini's. Get it! Splitting a grilled romaine salad, the misses and I nearly licked the plate clean. I haven't had a salad quite like this and it delivered big time. For our dinner, we shared a New York strip and a few side dishes. The beef fat fingerling potatoes with chimichurri were exquisite. We haven't had a potato dish pack that much flavor in a long time. The dry aged steak, with a side of herb butter, was also spot on. The broccolini was what we expected, although the spice level was unexpectedly high. We topped all of this splurge meal with a shared piece of carrot cake - holy wow! Get it! Our dinner mates, had the tenderloin steak and the cauliflower steak. They also raved about their meals. Tega delivered top-tier service. He handled our table's silly, middle-age humor and our many "high maintenance" requests. His level of service was a refreshing change of pace compared to what we have often experienced. I know it must have helped that the restaurant seemed well staffed and able to provide the servers with support. Looking to celebrate? Looking for a good place to "splurge" a little? I am a fan of the Block and so I wanted to check this place out as well once I heard that it has opened! We made reservations for a Friday night dinner. The place was quite busy by 6pm but we were seated immediately and our waitress came over shortly to take our drink orders. I started out with a glass of Cabernet and my husband got a beer. Both were good. To start, we shared the pork belly. I absolutely love pork belly even when they had some huge shrimp on special the night we came. I enjoyed the flavors of the pork belly and definitely did not regret ordering them over their other options. For my entree, I ordered the 16 oz boneless ribeye and a side of mashed potatoes. They are a la carte but they do have menu items where the sides were already included. My husband ordered the halibut and it did come with a side. My steak was cooked perfectly as ordered (medium rare) and it was flavorful and delicious. I had no regrets ordering it. I barely touched my mashed potatoes but only because I was saving room for dessert. My husband enjoyed his meal as well, no complaints. I ordered the chocolate mousse for dessert which was divine. Overall, I have no complaints with the food we were served. Some people have said that the place can be loud which I tend to agree with but it wasn't that bad, in my opinion. I've definitely been to places where you can barely hear yourself and my husband and I were able to carry a conversation in normal tones so I would say the noise level was manageable. Service was excellent and the staff were very friendly from the moment we arrived at their door step to when we were exiting the restaurant. Will I return? Absolutely! Cleaver and Cocktail has been one new restaurant that I have been very eager to try. It is located at a prime location at Town and Country. It has a beautiful, contemporary interior. My friend and I decided to celebrate a special occasion on a Friday evening. The restaurant was busy at 630pm and gets pretty loud. We found it difficult to hear each other without yelling. Perhaps this is a natural scenario for a popular restaurant. The service was slow and the communication was poor. I wanted to order the dry aged burger ($22), and swapped out the fries with another sides. The waiter suggested getting the grilled romaine salad to replace the fries; though he has never told me I need to buy the grilled romaine salad ($12) separately even when I was not getting the fries, which costs $9 on the menu. I felt surprised when I saw the check. The dry aged burger is delicious and juicy. It is dressed with arugula and pickled onions. I do recommend ordering this, even though it's a bit overpriced. The grilled romaine salad was okay! There is no wow factor, yet it is large enough size to justify the price tag. Before concluding the dinner, my friend ordered a slice of carrot cake and I ordered a cherry pie. My friend is a carrot cake fans, but she stopped eating after one bite, because the glazing was way too sweet. My cherry tart ($10) was average. It is served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The crust of the cherry tart was beautiful and crunchy. Yet, the cherry apple filling was average, yet it lacks texture. I wish it had some crunchy nuts and lemon flavor to tame the sweetness of the cherries. Overall, my experience at Cleaver and Cocktail was disappointing. Service was good. Food was not really good. We were sharing different items tonight. We ordered the Italian salad. It was not like any Italian salad I've had before. We also ordered the meatball as appetizer. It was 3 small meatballs 1 1/2 diameter. They were overcooked. They cost $17 ( over $5 each) The burger was overcooked ordered medium ( they said it would be hot pink center) it was well done. It tasted good but at $22 you would expect it to be a little larger and cooked properly. We had a $14 glass of Pinot, 2 Bud Selects, one salad, one meatball and one hamburger all for only $100 with tip. We live locally and would love to frequent a local restaurant. However at these prices Napoli 2 still remains a better value. read more

Cleaver & Cocktail is one of my favorite restaurants in STL for a nice dinner or great happy hour! The restaurant is gorgeous, the service is on point, and the food/cocktails are delicious! Be sure to try the Whipped Feta, Gnocchi, and the Beef Tenderloin.. and save room for the chocolate mousse!! read more

This was second visit after a while, and we set outside at the patio to enjoy the weather. They have gorgeous and spacious patio in the back. Shaded for the evening time. We got couple apps to share and few drinks. 4 starts for slower service later in the evening. They seem pretty busy for Wednesday and one server was in training so make sense they are working on this. My wine didn't come out till half way through our meal and my company had to wait for me to finish my meal and by the time wine came out my food was cold. That aside, everything was delicious, Muscle is under sharable / app but can be your main dish if you'd like. Next time I come, def want to try their specials and different appetizers. New eatery just opened in May 2023. A higher end restaurant and bar specializing in Dry Aged meats, fresh farm to table dishes, full cocktail bar, wine list and local brews. Recommend a reservation if coming evenings or a weekend. Contemporary ambience with loud acoustics. Excellent service (thnx Antonio!). Food was solid, but pricey in my view. Overall 4.0+ rating for my experience tonight; perhaps being new, they're still in early stages of making this eatery one of the best. Expect to pay $25-50pp depending what you order; apps were $15-22 each. FYI, I brought a bottle of wine for dinner and a $35 corking fee was charged. We started with freshly made warm sourdough bread, served with a fresh herb butter. Fantastic, you could eat a whole loaf! We opted for lighter portion eats with starters. The Gnocchi was outstanding, highly recommend it! Tried the meatballs which were OK, just not the tenderness or tastiness I expected, nor portion size (3 small per order). The charred Broccolini was very good, but not a raving dish. Finally, my 8 oz. burger was excellent, made from the extra cuts of dry aged beef and cooked to order; served on brioche roll with Arugula, Gruyere cheese and wine glazed onions - tasty and delish! Plus comes with a generous portion of garlic herb fries. Enjoyed trying C&C for my first visit, and will go back to try again. Liked the friendly and attentive service from a small staff.
