This location is best for small groups or individuals it's ideal for college kids and I get it. Small space across the street from a college. My husband and I went with two friends and our baby and if we hadn't bent the first people there for lunch rush we wouldn't have had anywhere to sit. So that's my only advice, if you have a big group I'd head to one of their other locations that can more easily accommodate that. But the food was divine like sato always is! read more

Made my first ever trip to SATO Ramen on Saturday and it did not let me down. Located a bit down Main Street next to Shango, this little Ramen joint has enough seating and menu options to please any ramen fan. I started off by ordering arare, which is basically little rice crackers wrapped in seaweed and something that I did not enjoy. The crackers themselves were very hard and the taste was just not for me, although I knew what they were before ordering so thats on me, not them. For a main course I ordered the donburi bowl that had the kaarage chicken in it. The chicken itself was absolutely delicious and had me wishing I also ordered the chicken as an appetizer. Also In the bowl was some rice, peppers, and I think onion (I have the memory of a toad). Overall, I was very pleased with my first ever stop at SATO Ramen. No place around have the same quality of ramen as Sato, this is the king. The little disappointment is the size of the Kara-Age (fried chicken). Don't get me wrong! Ramen is one of my #1 comfort foods. I've been to SATO, and SATO Brewpub (RIP) but never ordered anything from SATO Ramen. SATO is always solid, I love the ramen noodle texture, and their broths are always so rich. I decided to Doordash the special which was a Garlic Ramen with the spice bomb, and the Teriyaki Don. Had a coupon, my girlfriend is gluten free and out for the night so I normally can't get this stuff, and was ready to enjoy my weekend. The food arrives. I open up the Teriyaki Don and it's decent. Good bit of friend chicken, tasty. Not amazing but solid. Now the star, the garlic Ramen. #1 they forgot my spice bomb. 2 words... fatty, bland. As Gordon Ramsay would say "where's the salt?". I'm telling you I went into my fridge, and poured a heap full of soy sauce to season it right. The chicken that came with it... fried to a bit, bland, and so crappy. For whom the Bell Tolls, it SA-Tolls for thee as on Main Street there's Ramen just ready to be served piping Hot by the Bowl full. While I've eaten at Josh & Satomi's Elmwood & Pearl Street locations a few times, I've been tempted with myself to check out and see how their Ramen fares with the others. Luckily I was within walking distance of the Restaurant as it was a 15 Minute walk from UB's School of Dental Medicine and near the intersection of Main & Winspear. I walked in to a small area the size of a Living Room with a Big Table that sits about 8, Stooled seating near the window and some Seating near the open Kitchen where you witness the Simmering Magic up close. Coincidentally I didn't order any Ramen, I got their (Una Don) Rice Bowl topped with Grilled Eel done Kabayaki Style (means its split down the back, gutted, boned, cut into Fillets, Skewered and then dipped in Soy Sauce before its Grilled). Also had Soy Sauce, Shredded Nori, Seaweed Salad, Scallions, Sesame Seeds and 2 Spring Rolls on the side. You pull apart this fatty fish with hardly any effort and you can get that Smoky Essence as you take a bite along with some salty notes from the Soy. The Rice was cooked perfectly and you mix it all together like a Korean Bibimbap, The Spring Rolls that were filled with Pork & Vegetables were a nice accompaniment. I finished off Lunch with some Miso Caramel Donuts, which were 3 Fried fluffy Balls that were tossed in Brown Sugar and drizzled with Caramel, it was an Asian Spin on Salted Caramel. For my 2nd visit which came a few weeks later, the one thing that caught my Eye. SATO's version of Buffalo Chicken in Ramen Form, came with Corn, Carrots, Soft Boiled Egg, Scallions, Bean Sprouts, Lotus Root and a special Addition, Fried Tofu. To take something as iconic as Buffalo Wings and put it in a Bowl with Noodles and Hot Sauce is Mind Blowing. The Yolk from the egg had that Richness, the Lotus Root had that Starch element, but the real Kick was the Tofu. Its usually a bland item but you can do so much to it to liven it up like marinating it in Stock or Fat for Flavor or Frying it for another type of Textural Component. After eating here twice I can now say that I've eaten at all 3 locations, its like that we Ra-meant to be. !!! read more

We stumbled upon this place while we were in the neighborhood. The place was pretty busy and bustling on a Monday evening, so we walked in expecting good food. Our seats were right near the entrance where large tables are arranged with chairs running all around them so that you share the space with other people around you. There in no air-conditioning inside so it was pretty warm and a little uncomfortable with the hot weather outside. The kitchen right next to the seating area didn't help the temperature much either. We got Arare (seaweed rolled rice crackers) as an appetizer with our sake. The Arare was very lightly salted, so if you are into mildly flavored snack, it might appeal to you. I personally thought it was just ok as I prefer a little more flavor in my food. Sake was pretty strong and was a good amount for two people to share. I got a veggie ramen as an entree while my friend ordered a Teriyaki don (chicken rice bowl). The portions are huge and I couldn't even finish mine completely. It was a good mix of veggies although I thought it was scarcely seasoned with lotus roots (which was the best tasting veggie) while was more heavy on corn. I've been to Sato Ramen a few times. Mostly the one on elmwood and a couple times the one near UB. I love their ramen! One day my son also noodles/ramen enthusiast asked me to go here. His friend recommended it. He doesn't have to asked me twice! After a hiking at stony brook park we decided to stop here. I decided to go to the one near UB. There are limits to ramen availability in the North towns so my dining partner and I made the long drive (15 minutes lol) to the Main Street SATO Ramen. I've had ramen all over the US and this place gets a passing grade for me. FOOD: - Tonkotsu Ramen ($15) pork bone broth with pork infused soy, chashu pork, bean sprouts, green onions, bamboo shoots, egg, garlic oil and pickled ginger. This was delicious but I would have liked the option for adding more ginger because I always feel bad asking the waiter for something extra after my order comes out. - Sato Ramen ($13) pork and chicken broth, chashu pork, bean sprouts, green onions, bamboo shoots, egg, and pickled ginger. My dining partner ordered this and it honestly wasn't impressive enough compared to the Tonkotsu. DRINKS: The iced tea was robust but very very bitter. It was way to bitter to even drink past the initial first sip. COVID DINE IN: SATO is already a small dining area with a bar, a community table seating up to 8 (4-6 for covid layout) and a cute little table/bar area for 3 against the window for people watching. Due to the 6 foot rule, seating was limited so some patrons had to wait outside. I am not sure of Take Out procedure during stricter times. It was another cold winter day; a perfect excuse to get ramen. I came in with a friend intending to catch up. We sat ourselves and were given menus. I ordered the Curry Ramen adding fried tofu and my friend ordered the Veggie Ramen sans the ramen but instead adding rice. The food came quickly however my friend's ramen mistakenly had ramen instead of the rice. Staff noticed the error quickly and made a new bowl. They were very amenable to her dietary restrictions. The Curry Ramen was exactly what I was looking for. It's their classic Sato Ramen mixed with the Japanese curry flavor that I love. Delicious. The environment was very conducive to talking. Out of my years going there, I had only one really bad experience- I was trying to order a take out over the phone and they asked me to call back later which left a really bad impression so I stopped going there for a while. This time around I had the chicken ramen but the teriyaki Don is usually my go to. The matcha latte is a must have. I'm giving it a 4, only because of the few not so great experiences I had in the past. One time I ordered chicken rice bowl and chicken barely had any meat and all fat. Pretty impressive, if I liked fries, which I generally don't. I think the Ramen here is pretty good. It's better than at the original SATO location over in Elmwood Village. It's also slightly cheaper as well. SATO will always have a special place in my heart because it was the first Yelp event I ever went to, and then one of the later ones too. There were only a few customers in the shop; and six people were working in the kitchen. After more than 40 minutes, Ramen bowl was finally served. ...this long wait was totally unexpected and not good thing in general for Ramen shop, In my opinion. Anyway, the soup was not hot, rather luke warm - second disappointment. Then broth was weak and felt thin in taste - more disappointment. Noodle felt like strangely soft and chewy, and several bumps of noodles sticking together (see pic). Not carefully cooked?, or once cooked then left it while? ...I was not paying enough attention to kitchen after 20 min of waiting even though I was sitting on the counter. I frequently visit this SATO location when I need a warm soup right after class. This was the first SATO of the three SATO locations that I visited, so I do have some experience at the other SATO locations. I usually get the standard SATO ramen and I'm usually pretty happy with my bowl! Ramen is generally a pretty salty dish, so I definitely recommend drinking plenty of water. You get plenty of food from the ramen and the portion size is pretty good. You probably won't have room to order an appetizer. SATO is definitely a great place to have a date! The environment is somewhat intimate and a nice place to go out to eat. Sato does have a UB Card student discount, but please note that they only offer it on Thursdays! One neat thing is that they do offer a 10 hole punch card and you can use it any SATO location! Definitely recommend visiting any of the SATO locations for dinner! All 3 locations are all very different and even the ramen dishes are a little different. read more

The kimchi ramen I ordered was hearty, delectable and overall AMAZING. It was comparable to the delicious Ramen I've had in NYC - a strong and depthful broth with tofu, kimchi (it's not weird in this ramen, I promise the flavors go together very well) and braised pork (incredibly tender). Sato ramen is my favorite place! I love this location specifically because they have the vegan curry ramen here and it's to die for. They changed some things up inside due to Covid, like paper menus where you can check off the menu items you'd like to order and bring it up to the hostess to order that way, instead of the server coming to you. They switched to disposable single use chopsticks for each order but it looks like they aren't giving out the big ladle soup spoons right now which was kind of a bummer, so I'd bring your own if you're dining in. If you're looking for good ramen then SATO is not the place to go to. If you're looking for excellent ramen then SATO is the place to go to. After passing by this place several times on Main St, we decided it was time to give it a go. This was one of the few places I hadn't yelped before going into but always noticed that the restaurant was full on weekdays too. SATO is a true ramen joint. There's a limited menu like most good Ramen places. They have 3 main broths which are Pork, Chicken and Veggie and some ramen variants that are based of those broths. They have the typical ramen bowls and then there's some with a Buffalo twist. We tried the Buffalo Chicken Ramen and the Curry Ramen and both were out of this world. We favored the curry ramen a little more than the buffalo chicken due to the katsu curry like flavors in it. The Buffalo Chicken Ramen on the other hand is a more thick Chicken Broth with corn and buffalo chicken, it's simpler but the flavors do stand out more. The ramen here is made from scratch and you can tell in the way it's prepared and the way it's cooked. The open kitchen view at the bar is a great place to sit and observe all the action and enjoy the smells as food is prepared. Another fun fact is that the SATO brewpub is run by the same owners in downtown but have a completely different menu and a good selection of beers. I have eaten at all three locations over the years and was looking forward to a cozy bowl of tasty ramen. After a movie down the street, the Main St seemed like the perfect spot. Having been there before I sat at the counter by the cooks and ordered my favorite bowl. What I found was a disappointment. There was a lack of organization and care. After ordering apps, two bowls of ramen and dessert I soon learned of these failings. The dessert was brought out first. When the two apps came one was a wrong item. My bowl of ramen came but my daughter's wasn't delivered with mine. After a fifteen minute wait we asked where the other ramen was. It took another twenty minutes to get her ramen and the correct app. No on ever asked how the meal was or if we needed anything. As I looked around I noticed a grimy counter where all the bowls and plates were stacked and a very cluttered and messy kitchen. The bathroom was a mess as well. So on top of disorganization it was also dirty. As for the food, my ramen was very salty and served barely warm. The apps were fine. The dessert was definitely the best part of the meal. This location used to have a great neighborhood vibe. Now it's just seems like an old, unkept and disorganized spot. If you're in the mood for ramen go to the Elmwood Ave. location. My co-workers and I ordered take out from SATO from work so I can only really comment on the food I got and not the physical restaurant, but I still felt very compelled to write a review. Even the chicken in the ramen was fresh and the meat tender. My only slight complaint is the broth was quite oily and they probably could have held back on whatever oil they did put in the broth.
