Beer was okay we ordered what they advertise as their Garlic Parmesan fries...THE WORSE!! No garlic flavor and no Parmesan on them. I hate to give negative reviews. Keep in my this is just my opinion! There wasn't really anything wrong with it - I personally just didn't like the vibe and didn't feel super clean/social distanced there. Could have been an off day. I was immediately not impressed with the way they were sitting people during Covid. They had a hostess booth right at the front doors- which are the only way in and out. This caused a lot of congestion and a lot of close proximity with other guests. The patio was t open because the forecast called for a chance of rain. I am more comfortable being outside right now, and would want to be outside regardless because it's summer. Many of the female servers were not wearing socks. They had on closed rubber ballet-style shoes. You could see their feet. This just stood out to us as odd from a health and safety perspective. I was completely shocked they had salt and pepper bottles on every table. I have been to several restaurants since reopening and NONE have had anything (including condiments) on the tables. Our server was just okay. I would not say she was mean but she was quick and didn't display much customer service orientation. Looking around the dining hall we realized the "vibe" really is ancient. It felt like we were in a very old restaurant with old furniture and lots do dark woodwork. It didn't seem to have a pub vibe at all. It just didn't match what I think they are aiming for for their brand. It also was oddly dark which made us feel tired when it was really 2:30 in the afternoon. Long story short, of all the places we visited this one struggled the most with adapting to Covid and isn't anything special. There are way better brewery experiences to have. If you're on a time crunch I recommend skipping this one. read more

We decided to have a overnight getaway (last weekend) and wanted to visit the brewery. Obviously, given the conditions, we weren't able to sit down, but we did order food and beer to go. So glad we did! Already a fan of the beer, I did enjoy the Blueberry Maple Stout....incredible. Also, props on the food. Me cheeseburger and fries...her chicken strips and fries. We couldn't have been happier. We could have just had the fries for dinner, they were that good! We were in Saugatuck to celebrate our one-year anniversary and we rarely pass up the chance to try a new brewery. We stopped in to Saugatuck Brewing Co after a Saturday brunch at Everyday People Cafe. The place was packed, but we were seated right away. We ended up opting to try and flight (and then a second one) so we had a chance to try almost all of their beers. Overall good flavor and variety. What's unique about this place is that you can brew your own beer - we'll definitely have to make another trip to try. We were full from brunch so we didn't eat; however, all the food being served around house looked great! read more

Four of us come here for a "snack" and also for beer flights of course. I enjoyed some beer more than others, but that's to be expected. I was a little disappointed to discover that not all of the beers on tap were available to purchase (seasonal), because Maggie's Irish ale was great, but unavailable to buy to go. (I went with bonfire brown). We decided to get appetizers, and since there were 4 of us...we got ALL of them. The pretzel was good. The wings were good. The cheese curds were too spicy for me...i thought the cheese was spicier than the wings, but those in our party who like spice loved them. There's a charcuterie board, which was fine...actually the grapes were my favorite part of that. The chip dip was ok to mediocre. Of the choices, the pretzel was my favorite. Normally I wouldn't drive this far for some beer. But that's only because there's so many great choices along the way. However, in this case we were invited to Saugatuck Brewing Co to make some beer. I figured as much as I like DRINK beer, knowing how to MAKE it would only make it better. Our friends had done this before so we trusted their judgment and went along for the ride. Evidently this place does this fairly regularly. It's Saturday morning, 0930 am, and we are throwing ingredients into the big crock pot thing (shut up). They had the recipe figured out from previous years. Stir, drink, stir, drink. YEP you get to sample all their tap beers by the pitcher. Stir, drink, stir, drink. They let you pick a couple items from their appetizer menu to eat while your making the beer. Stir, drink, eat, stir, drink, eat. Then they drain the mash and your beer goes to ferment a few weeks. During that time you pick a name for your beer, design the label, and come back to bottle it. We picked bottles over growlers. About 3 weeks later we were back on a Sunday. 0930 am and sampling our new beer. We bottled 72 beers, not counting what we drank. Beer into the bottle, cap em, label them, and box them for the ride home. We called ours 6 Geese a Laying Holiday Amber because there were six of us brewing and it was close to Christmas. $100 per couple to make and bottle the beer, then $50 for all the labels. Well worth the money for a once a year experience. We are going back next year. I'm thinking of beer names already! read more

The food was amazing, and the beer was great. However, I overheard a server make some racist remarks about a family enjoying their meal. I was disgusted by all the comments she had made in the short time I was there. She seemed to be mutually disliked by the staff as well. I'm not sure why an establishment would keep an employee like that around, especially with how much hatred was spewing out of that woman's mouth. I believe her name was Kristy or something similar. Stopped by Saugatuck Brewing on our way home for a holiday weekend over the 4th. It was the 5th at 1:45. I had called in advance and gave my arrival time and asked whether they were open and if we should expect a wait. Was told we'd be okay. We went out of our way to get there. We pull up and there are only two tables occupied outside. Inside the restaurant it's largely empty except the bar itself which is packed. The hostess tells us the wait is an hour and a half. Even with at least two thirds of their tables empty at 1:45 in the afternoon. All I can figure is they were short staffed for the holiday, but poor management of staff then and I really did not appreciate spending time to go there specifically after calling ahead to find out they had not accurately conveyed the situation when I called. I've been coming here for several years and it's always a good experience. My favorite item on the menu is the vegetarian burger, which is honestly one of the best I have had anywhere; not sure how they make it, but it's vegetable-based, the perfect consistency, and fried to perfection. A fun place with good service, good food and music! Music is what usually draws us there and the food is the icing on the cake. My husband had the fish and chips and liked it. I had a burger and it was very good as well. The one detractor for me was the burger bun. Too big. I finally took the top off because it just felt like "all bun." Great place to get a meal and a craft brew. The staff at this place really hustles they're definitely customer friendly and definitely want you to get your food as quickly as possible. The only problem is the kitchen isn't as quick as the staff but that's okay the atmosphere is good the food is excellent the portions are big and the beer is really really good. The staff is very important about the bruise and what they taste like and what you may like. They also have an area where if you would like to make your own beer, you would be able to meet with them and make your own flavor. read more

Horribly disappointed..... Entered your establishment, excited to be there for the first time. Went straight to the merch area fully intending to purchase several items. The middle aged (nasty) woman who began saying "excuse me" repeatedly instantly continued with "I can't have dogs here". Followed by "I have several questions to ask" to what felt like an interrogation she asked several question. Not only does our dog have a "service animal" vest on, we carry his Federally Issued license. Not ONLY is it a violation to ask us personal questions like she did, it was handled HORRIBLY. We are absolute foodies, we go to 5 Star, Michelin Star, James Beard, etc. This is the first time we have been treated so poorly. If it's is your policy, I highly recommend you revise. If it's not, I highly recommend you train your employees how to handle (politely) the process in which to handle. read more

We were in the area to experience Saugatuck. Our air b & b was really close (7 min walk) to the brewery. It has a very welcoming atmosphere, with a really nice outdoor area. We made a quick trip to Saugatuck, and were aware of the Brewery so wanted to try it. Very happy with the brews, but the food was another happy surprise. We had the Brussel sprouts as an appetizer, and they were fabulous. I enjoyed the chicken wrap with fries (which were great, nice and crispy and a huge order) while my husband enjoyed a burger with the chips. He liked both of them. The sauces with the sprouts and the wrap and burger were really a nice compliment to the meals. We spaced the food to come out so we could play a round of shuffleboard. About the shuffleboard, its n the hallway and there are rules, not just rules for playing the game, rules for the table and treating the table. It's a big deal. We ordered 7 entrees. Two of the highlights were the shrimp and grits and the shrimp po boy. Very casual atmosphere, music on Thursdays and Saturdays. They only serve their own beer and wine. No hard liquor. SBC has a nice setting in Douglas, Mi with plenty of outdoor patio area. Located next to the superfun antique mall, it's also convenient. But...and I so wish not to say this: their food is mediocre and the beer fair. It's also somewhat costly for an afternoon out. I've tried many of their menu items over the years looking for the sweet spot and have not been successful. The main food vibe I get from SBC is Sysco products. However, again, it is a very pleasant atmosphere with a few pleasing selections like their Bonfire Brown beer and kid-happy French fries. It is also a family friendly with room for wheelchairs, walkers, strollers and the like. read more

Was super excited to visit while we were on this side of the state. The milkshake stout is one of my favorites! But the food here was a complete miss. Grossly overpriced to say the least. From VERY fatty pork on a $14 personal pizza to $5 Kraft Mac and cheese with no side or drink for the kids. Our group of eight visited this establishment for lunch. I had a bowl of their soup of the day, ham and potato chowder. While the flavor was good it could have used a little more ham. My husband got the Southwestern Club sandwich with fries, and I had a bite of that too. While the flavor of the sandwich was good it could have been constructed a little better.....would have been better if the chicken had actually covered the bun rather than leaving so much naked space. The fries were great! Our waitress was great too....she was able to handle our large group and she even gladly took our picture for us when we requested her to do so. I can't speak of how their brews were as I didn't have one, but those that DID have a brew seemed to enjoy it. The four of us stopped here after a day of sunshine looking for a cool place with interesting food and beverages. My companions all sampled their beers. The standouts were an IPA of kind that was not too hoppy, and a vanilla porter that was thick creamy snd very full of flavor. I'm am not a beer drinker so a sip of the porter was all I could stand but if I had to drink something it would be that. Omg-the Asian cauliflower is incredible! It's cooked all dente then covered in a sweet and spicy sesame sauce topped with green onions. I could have just eaten that and been happy. I wanted it all to myself! We also tried the big pretzel which was served hot with mustard and a spreadable cheese not the run of the mill orange cheese sauce but a nice beer cheese. For entrees we had fish and chips, the rueben and a Caesar salad with shrimp. Fish snd chips featured pollock breaded in their pale ale beer batter served with garlic Parmesan fries. The fish was flakes and the batter thick snd crunchy. The fries are hand cut and delicious!! The corned beef on the rueben was tasty and not fatty . The sandwich was large and served on marbled rye with sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and a generous dollop of thousand island dressing. It's exactly what you'd except from a good Ruben sandwich. The disappointment was the salad. There was a single layer of romaine lettuce on the plate -it felt very skimpy compared to everything thing else we either were served or was served around us. The up charge for shrimp on the salad was $6 and there were six small shrimp on the salad. We had key lime pie for dessert and were pleasantly surprised with the cool creamy sweet/tart treat. So why three stars? Service or lack there of.. we went in with the understanding that like all other locations in this tourist town they were going to be understaffed and were prepared for a wait. We were seated right away but the waitress wasn't able to reach our table for a drink order for 25 minutes. Ok -we knew we'd have to wait but we thought she'd at least acknowledge that we had to wait. But nope. The waits between drinks appetizers entree and desserts were long and our waitress made us want to apologize for asking her for another beer or another bottle of ketchup or the check. Kicked out of restaurant after a barely 20 year old girl questioned me about my disability. When I told her what my disability was she did not know anything about it. In fact she had never heard of the two diagnostic terms for my disorder. Even after I explained my medical condition, what my dog does for me and showed her my medical alert bracelets, she would not let me stay - not even on the patio. I was embarrassed and humiliated in front of other customers who we're staring at me on the way out the door. I would like to make the following points: One, it is ILLEGAL to ask about my disability and medical diagnosis. Two, if you're going to have somebody question customers with a handicap, about their disability, then they better know what the hell they're talking about or have a medical dictionary handy so they could at least look it up. Pretty sure this girl did not have M.D. as credentials behind her name. Somebody with a High School degree is in by no means capable of determining the validity of my condition. Three, not all handicapped people are blind, with seeing eye dogs, and not all wear vests shouting out to the world there's something wrong with the owner. P.S. We had a flight of 6 beers for $14 and I had the first & chips. The fish was very good! The fries were fresh & coated in parmesan. Delicious! My husband had a chicken sandwich w/fries & described his meal as "alright". We liked most of the beers we tried. Our favorites were the Oval Beach Blonde & Blueberry Lemon Shandy. We actually bought a 6 pack of the shandy. It was a rainy weekend, so that may have accounted for the crowd at this place. It was packed Sat & Sun. We had about a half hour wait to be seated. You can get a drink at the bar and hang out while you're waiting for a table though. The bar is seat yourself, but it was constantly full. Last time I ventured over to the Saugatuck Brewing Company they had just opened and the only food item on the menu were the pretzels. My how things have changed! A great sounding menu is now in place, featuring sandwiches, daily specials, soups, and other yummy sounding choices. We had a gift certificate to another joint in town so we didn't eat much but the pub fries and the pretzels (still kickin' around!) were a great snack! The real highlight is the beer. Holy cow! GOOD ASS BEER. I had the Neapolitan stout and good grief was it fabulous! Admittedly I'm not very big on dark beers but this brew kills it. Mixed in with chocolate (can you tell why I ordered it now?), vanilla bean, and strawberry puree it's like a boozy ice cream cone (sans cone). The first thing you notice is the chocolate, then a bit of a sweetness from the vanilla and the final notes are that strawberry. POW. Hits your tongue and fills it with happiness. The place itself is a bit...bare. I mean, the paint job and the seats/booths are nice with their dark wood detailing and the comfy seating. But it just feels kind of empty in terms of decor. I'm sure when it's packed with dinner guests and people coming to see the live music they feature it fills up but it just kind of stretches on, open, save for the cool brassy fermentation tanks they show off just past the bar. In the end though, this isn't bad. I'd rather have an airy space vs. a cramped one! They offer some of their more popular beers bottled in a cooler (sadly no Neapolitan there!) and they even give you the opportunity to brew your own beer with their equipment! $250 buys you use of the stuff, materials, bottles, labels, and a final product of eleven gallons of your own handmade microbrew (that's sixty 22oz bottles)! if you do it again just bring those old bottles to reuse and they'll knock off $50 bucks down to $200. Could be a fun bachelor or bachelorette party activity, I think! Or a good gift for father's day or mother's day coming up, if your parents like good beer, that is. Which they should. read more

Staff was amazing and kind, food was 10/10. It felt like we were eating real food that could have been prepared in our home. The pub platter hit the right spot, the kids tenders had actual meat and not just breading, chili was yum, steak salad was super fresh and the cucumber dressing was delish, the bread and butter was fantastic, and the key lime pie stole the show. Great beers. The Pier cove is a really nice porter, the oval beach is pretty tasty, but the highlights are the IPA's. The Singapore IPA is probably the second best IPA I've tasted in Michigan. I also really enjoyed the double IPA that they had. I wouldn't recommend ordering it in a full pint unless you are a real hophead. I also tried the nitro stout, but didn't really think it was very special. The food was good, standard bar fare. I liked the hand-cut fries, but the real story here is the beer. I wish I lived closer to take advantage of the giant beer hall they have on premises. read more
