I've been going to Sausalito Optometry for years, starting with their previous Pine Street location. Maureen, Sandra and Hillary are all so helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Miss Molly, the office cat, is a total love bug... she puts the icing on the cake. Besides being a great place for all your eye care needs, they are an asset to our community and have beautified the corner of Johnson and Caledonia by replacing an oasis of concrete with a wonderful flower garden. 5 stars for the doctor. 1 star for the staff. Had a simple misunderstanding regarding the billing and the woman I dealt with was argumentative, confrontational and downright rude... very off-putting. Doctor was thorough and couldn't have been better... just be sure to understand exactly what you're paying for before walking in there. read more

Sausalito Optometry is top notch! Dr. McCoy & her staff are very friendly and professional. I have confidence that Dr. McCoy does a thorough exam and could detect even the slightest vision issue very early in its development. She uses state-of-the-art equipment and explains the entire exam as she completes it. We've moved a lot over the years and have used many 'chain' and boutique vision centers. I think we could probably find a less expensive 'chain' vision center but, I doubt the quality of care would be as good as Sausalito Optometry. When it comes to our vision, being sure is very important to us so, we view it as money well spent. If your vision is important to you, I highly recommend Dr. McCoy and Sausalito Optometry. read more

If your glasses come out wrong and are not wearable, they will offer you a 20% discount on a new pair, even though the problem is their fault --- wrong focal point. Not so nice when the specs cost hundreds. I did not like hearing her anti-feminist views on politics either. read more

I've been a patient of Maureens for years and would never think of going anywhere else. Dr. McCOy and her staff are so nice and extremely knowledgable! The enitire experience form the amosphere ( very cool interiors in renovated retro gas station) through the exam, which was the most thorough and clearly explained I've ever had, to selecting frames was far superior to any place I've ever visited for my vision needs! read more

Dr. McCoy and staff are absolutely the best! I wandered in because of the beautiful cat, Molly who sits and sleeps in the window. She is the resident office kitty. Dr. McCoy welcomed me and did walk me through and thoroughly explain every single step of the eye exam. It was a pleasure to have my eyes checked! I just had my first eye exam with Dr McCoy and couldn't be more pleased with my experience here. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable including Molly the clinic cat! The Dr greeted me with a smile and handshake as soon as I arrived. She was very professional, knowledgeable and thoroughly took time to review my exam with me. I have had issues with allergies and the Dr asked me if I had ever had eye allergies, which I didnt know was a separate health issue from regular allergies so she prescribed me prescription eye drops. The staff took time to fit me into new frames. I will definitely be back! My wife and I recently came in for our first eye appointments. Dr McCoy and her staff are super nice and welcoming, including Molly the office's adopted cat. It's such a great location in downtown Sausalito. We most appreciated the exam portion. Dr McCoy takes her time explaining each step. My first expereince with SCI FI optical exam. Maureen has an addition GIFT in being highly intuitive grrasping my unusal kind of personality . She provided answers to any question in great detail nothigb soared. By the end she generously helped me with suggestipns for wher i could find gperscroption glass frames if not fro her. everyone was incredibly lovely and i am a very diffiicult person when i feel dismissed or i am intruding . (Just to preface, every review you've read is dead on. I'm glad I took everyone's advice!) I've been wearing glasses since I was 17 and I have been lucky enough to encounter some pretty nice doctors. However, a doctor like Dr. McCoy, or Maureen as I'm sure she'd ask you to call her, is a rare gem! Not only was she friendly and welcoming, she answered all of the questions I had and all of the questions I didn't even think of asking! She's extremely knowledgeable and you can tell she absolutely loves what she does. I can't say enough about her staff either. Second year to see Dr McCoy. Amazing, quick, efficient. Covers things other doctors miss like noting that I have dry eyes and how to try to fix it myself with warm water compresses and lower eyelid massage. I told her that I would continue to see her even when we move out of Marin. read more

What a fabulous place. First, the office is spacious and lovely and the office staff made me a great cup of tea while I waited, which was only for a few minutes. Dr. McCoy could not be better informed on the latest research and she clearly explained everything she was doing. She gave me advice on a simple procedure to do to make my eyes less dry and irritated. I don't know why no other optometrist has ever given me this basic information. Dr. McCoy also made absolutely certain that my new prescriptions were right by having me read a few things after the exam. Then when it was time to order glasses I was able to reuse my existing frames, since my insurance wouldn't help pay for new ones yet, and the office staff walked me through how to choose lenses to be best for the way I was using them and still be as cost effective as possible. So, for example, my computer glasses will now have a coating that prevents my eyes from being bothered by the blue light that emits from monitors. It's kind of weird to rave about an optometrist but I have been going to them since I was a little child and I can honestly say that this was the best experience I've ever had. read more

Sometimes it pays to go to a boutique establishment. For once in our lives, we didn't stress out over price. We walked in because it was open late on a Thursday. Excellent, personal service helped us pick out glasses quickly. We put our order aside for two weeks then called back and placed our order over the phone. No screw ups. No delays. I recently moved to Sausalito and this is long overdue. I was looking for an eye doctor and went blindly on the top ten list of optometrist in the area. Although Dr. McCoy was only my third choice, I ended up seeing her and I was so happy I did. She not only had a great "bedside" manner (term we use in the hospital,) she had great knowledge and her equipment is state of the art. I learned from her more than any other optometrist I've been seeing the past few years. I high recommend her . I have sent a few of my few friends to her and they were also very happy. I can't say enough about how great the staff is here! After arriving in Sausalito for the weekend, I realized I forgot both contacts and my glasses. As a wearer of daily disposable contacts, I knew I had to get more somehow. This was my 3rd stop in the Bay Area after having my doctor back home email me a copy of my prescription and they were quick to help. They had my exact prescription in one eye and were barely off with the other. The wonderful receptionist provided me a 5 day supply of disposables free of charge. I couldn't have been more thankful for them helping me see and enjoy my time in Sausalito!! read more

The optometrist here is SO rude! She literally cut me off every time I tried to ask her a question and had all sorts of attitude for some reason. I also had to go back two times to get an accurate prescription since she measured my eyes incorrectly the first time. Overall, she was very dismissive and just plain rude. Go elsewhere for your eye exams! They have a limited but nice (high-end so fairly expensive) selection of eyewear. read more

Whelp although Dr. McCoy is nice I've spent $700 (brought my own frames) on lenses and I still CAN'T SEE! I do have somewhat complicated vision but I explained that both when making the appointment and during the exam. The Dr had no reservations about her ability to treat my needs. Unfortunately, during the exam I did not get that she was confident in her ability to correct my vision. This led me to specifically ask about any guarantees on the prescription lenses. To which she replied "if they are not right we remake them until they are!" This was a lie. The first lenses were so far off I could not even put them on. When I returned to have them redone I was told "we only have one more chance to get them right". Well, uh, then what? She had no idea what to do, why the lenses were so wrong, and finally she gave me my old prescription - wasting my money all together!!! I am now going back to UC Berkeley eye center where they got my lenses right on every time. Of course I will be paying AGAIN!! I am also filing a complaint on "Dr" McCoy. She should have just refunded my money and told me she was not able to deal with my needs. I gave two stars only because she was a nice person and so was her staff. read more
