I really love the ambiance of this market because it's intimate and feels like a home town market! That said, the prices really aren't the best. Certain items are worth the splurge- e.g., the homemade potato salad in the deli section... Soooo good!! They also carry a number of homemade soups. They also carry things my mom loves (e.g., turkey wings). For everyday items, you'll do better price-wise shopping at your local Kroger or other such stores. Again, this doesn't replace the pleasure of walking into a hometown shopping store. I also love that they hire people with disabilities - love love to experience this! Still, based on the pricing, I need to rate this store at 4 stars, as much as I love and recommend them for excellent quality and for carrying certain items that are difficult to find elsewhere (my mom loves Kasia's sauerkraut dumplings)! My son and I love coming here! The staff have always been friendly and amazing. As soon as we walk in, they greet us and when we check out, they ask us if we have any fun plans coming up. This is one of the last old school full service small grocery stores in the area. A great selection of items, many reasonably priced. The delis amazing. Stutters is one of those long time Sylvania treasures. For a family owned grocery store they have a large selection of items. Excellent meat department with an amazing deli and bakery. Really cute little local market with fresh donuts and bread they make in house. A really nice deli and meat department and local assortment of goods that represent the community like Tony Packo hot dog sauce. Excellent selection of unique, local and well known products. Whether you're looking for a homemade meal, snack, or grab and go item to take to a holiday party, they've got a great selection. Also plenty of fresh produce, meats/cheeses, and dairy items as well. Nice selection of wine, liquor, and beer as well for a smaller grocery store. Employees around the store were helpful and kind. The checkout clerk was less than friendly but the bagger was talkative and pleasant which thankfully made up for it. Worst customer service ever. Couldn't find an item, so spoke with store manager to order it. He told me it would be about 4-5 days and I said that was fine. He took my phone number and said he would call me when item came in. He never called. I called and he told me he doesn't have time to call customers. Very, very, very expensive and very rude. This is my favorite pop in grocery spot. While it is pricier than many chain stores the service is impeccable. It has a 50s small town grocery store feel, with actual bagging services, real clerks (not automated annoyances) and a beautiful full service deli. They don't have a bar or pool table but Sautter's is as close to Cheers as you get in Sylvania. It's where mothers get part-time jobs as cashiers and high schoolers learn to slice meat in the deli. Still family owned and run by Jim Sautter, Jim goes out of his way to say hello and help you find what you are looking for. If he doesn't have what you need, just ask and he might be able to work his magic to get it for you. With the growth Sylvania has seen over the years, it amazes me that Sautter's maintains their high level of quality, friendliness, and convenience. It is a true staple of my hometown! read more

One of the few Five Star markets left in the area. Sautter's has survived the onslaught of the mega stores by providing good service at a reasonable price. They put people first and work hard to gain your respect and business. Definitely a five star place. A joy to shop there. No hassles- just a great all around experience (not like the big box stores). This is how the great markets of Europe are like - very fresh produce; excellent deli and bakery (with Juan making great custom stuff); fabulous meat department and amazing selection of meats - some great butchers right there - and ask them if you don't see what you want; many specialty items; easy parking and there is not a two mile walk to get to the back of the store. Also much of the food there comes from local sources so you are getting fresher and closer to the farm - pretty neat. Another very nice feature are the employees-- most have been there a long time and they engage with you and get to know you - it is like shopping in a small town store where everyone is a friend. Jim Sautter also has the best wine selection in Toledo and likely even the Ann Arbor area ( yes I have frequently shopped Morgan & York and Plum Market) - some really great deals also that he searches out from distributors. Well so much for my positive review. I went there today after not having been there for a long time. I bought some meat and some other items that totaled $60. The cashier rang me up and stated "I take it you have not written a check here before?" I said "yes I have but it has been some time ago". She called the manager up to the register and an elderly gentleman walks up (looked like the owner) and starts inspecting my check. He literally sat there staring at it, and peppering me with questions. How old were my checks, how long have I been at my bank, is my address correct, where exactly do I stay (in what exact area....name of nearby streets), asked for my license info even though I was told they wouldn't need it), asked some other random questions, and looked completely disgusted with me in general. He reluctantly said, "ok I guess." I wanted to ask if he needed a blood sample, or to check if he could find me on "America's most wanted", but he started walking away. I have been to many stores and never been treated like that. I love supporting local businesses and smaller stores, but after being interrogated like I was; don't know if I will go back. Sautter's was my first job when I was 16! This place really is becoming a rare breed of store. They have a killer deli and bakery. If you get there in the morning the whole store smells like donuts. We ordered our small wedding cake - just for us from Sautter's and from Chef Juan. We talked about the cake options and flavors and what we wanted. My first visit to the store when we moved to the area 20+ years ago, I got to the checkout and realized that I forgot my wallet at home...not a problem - they wrote down my name and total so I could pay them on my next visit! I was so sad when Andersons closed but I found Sautters. And it is far better than Andersons -much better meat than the House of Meats and more personalized attention. Far better deli than Andersons. Great produce. Prices are fair. Prior reviews are right that you don't have to walk a football field. Lots of choices you certainly do not find at Kroger or Meijer. Great staff fro. I love Sautters my favorite store since I have had cancer chemo has made shopping more difficult. Your store has everything and you don't have to walk a mile. Hamburger and your bakery buns are the best. I will not buy my burger anywhere else always fresh and delicious. That you Sautters for not changing over the years I love you just the way you are. I went to Sautters yesterday and bought 20.00 in groceries and asked if I could write the check for 25.00. The cashier told me no problem however since i was not in the system she needed to get an ok first. I assume it was a manager who came over to see about this. He looked at my check and then my drivers license and then asked where is Rushland(my address) and I said near Douglas and Sylvania. He hesitated a second and then said "no you"ll have to write it for the grocery amount only. When I asked the cashier was it because I did'nt live in Sylvania she looked down and said I guess he did'nt know where you lived." I was stunned.
