Pretty neat place-- my husband had the cheese sticks to start, which he said were close to being his favorite (next to Spanky's- also in LBK), a cheeseburger (nothing mind-blowing), and curly fries with their ranch dressing (said good, but again said as "good as Arbys"). I opted for brunch- having a blueberry pancake (my favorite thing on the plate), 2 scrambled eggs (unfortunately I think they added cheese without stating that on the menu... yeah, no bueno for me ), and a side of fresh fruit (wish they would have taken the time to take off the strawberry stems ). I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food here. Bar food is normally average, but I'd say this is above average! Not spectacular, but definitely better than average food! Their strawberry spring salad was light and refreshing. The grilled chicken lacked flavor, but the dressing on the salad made up for it! We also tried their Fire Cracker Alfredo which was creamy and filling although it didn't have a kick of spice to it like we expected. It was a quiet Tuesday afternoon when we came by. Savage Tavern is the closest thing to heaven you'll encounter before you shuffle off this mortal coil. Not only do they have alcohol, which in sufficient quantities can intoxicate you, they also sell a wide array of fried foods. Fried foods are better than other foods because they are fried. So you'd thank that's the extent of it, because honestly that's suffucient to induce nirvana. But get this - they have a patio with bags (the game, not just random bags, which they should also add). So you can consume alcohol, eat fried food, and throw bags at wood. Literally nothing could be better than that. In fact, Savage might be better than the actual heaven, as the latter may or may not have bags. So I'd say pass on passing on and just go to Savage. read more

Have heard good things and was very much looking forward to trying it today for lunch. Walked in, sat down, and an individual who was sweeping up quickly came to our table. "A server will be with you in just a moment, we don't like allow outside drinks, you can return that drink to your car (pointing to my unopened Monster drink)." Rather than have a conversation with an adult, this employee elected to order me to return a can to my car. I elected to return myself to my car instead. Had she asked, I would've told her, I was going to also order a drink from them, was also excited to return to the location of one of my former favorite places to eat (Great Wall), but instead she elected to order me to take my drink to my car. Horrible service and bad attitudes!! Asked for a tequila and topo chico. Same as what I had ordered an hour earlier from a female bartender and paid $16.00 plus tip. Male Bartender tried to charge me over $34.00....I refused to pay so much and the bartender took drinks away. It was over with. About 30 minutes later, the same male bartender came over to the table, slammed down the receipt in front of me and said "if you can afford the drink, don't order it!" So the food is pretty good and the bartenders are great... management sucks. At Sunday brunch the manager was just getting drunk while the waitresses and bartender were working their asses off, even think one of the waitresses was helping every so often in the kitchen. In the end, we waited and hour and a half for only one of our meals to be delivered - my boyfriend made a comment about the service and the manager got really aggressive then slapped my boyfriend and followed us to the parking lot provoking him to fight. The worst part is he did it in front of a full restaurant of people... I feel really bad for the staff - needs new management bad. read more

Terrible service - either extremely understaffed or no one actually cares? Finally had to cancel our order after waiting for over an hour. Neither our waitress nor the manager working the floor apologized or even acknowledged that we were obviously leaving unhappy. Food has potential, but the staff is unprofessional. Also maybe stoned? Verbatim conversation between me & the server: *45 mins after ordering* S: "Your food will be out soon, the biscuits need to rise." M: "Sounds good!" *20 mins pass* M: "Do you know when our food will come out?" S: "...........I mean I don't know they said the biscuits needed to rise." M: "..........okay could you bring us the rest of it & the biscuits later?" S: "...............ok." *20 mins pass - no food has come our way* M: "Can I just cancel the order?" Our experience at Savage Tavern was less than stellar. I'd called around a few places to find somewhere that served mimosas and brunch on a saturday, and was delighted to find this new(ish) place right by campus. I even called ahead to see if they were busy and was told they had plenty of tables open. We arrived shortly after, and found the place about half full, mostly students watching the game. We seated ourselves (there was no hostess) and waited for someone to acknowledge our existence. ....and waited ... and waited. There were several staff going back and forth, hanging out, chatting, and no one seemed to want to claim our table. After about 15 minutes, I got up and asked a server for a menu. She looked surprised and gave me one, when I got back to my table I realised it was the wrong menu. I was about ready to leave at this point, but shortly after, I watched the manager come over to the group of servers hanging out and point to our table, I was relieved thinking that we would soon get service. I was incorrect. ANOTHER 15 minutes went by before anyone stopped by our table to take our order. We were finally able to get the correct menu. By this time, the place had filled up, and we've been here 30 minutes with no service or drinks. We were able to order our first round, and our food. The drinks came fairly quickly, but our server didn't come back until long after they were finished. We ordered one more drink (there were two of us) and she walked away before we could order a second. At that point I couldn't be bothered. The blended mimosa was gross and 90% ice, but I guess that's my fault for expecting that a mimosa could be blended. We waited about an hour for our food. Our server did apologise for the wait, but it was unsurprising given that we were finally able to place our order after the 20 other people who came in after us. Our food finally arrived and we were starving. We had to ask our server for cutlery to eat with. We ordered the breakfast tacos (tres amigos?) and they didn't have the avocado on them they were supposed to come with, and instead of hashbrowns were garnished with literally a crunched up tater tot. It tasted okay, but wasn't what we paid for. However, I knew that if we bothered to wait for our server we'd probably be waiting till we died of old age. The stuffed french toast was decent, but the "fruit cup" we ordered on the side was honestly shocking. I cannot believe that someone from the kitchen would send it out. It was plated nicely, but I suspect it sat out in the kitchen for a long time, causing the apples to turn brown. Overall, the food wasn't terrible but the service was shocking. Another half a star for the fact that the drinks were very reasonably priced and there was a good selection. I'm a former server, so I give people a lot of slack on most things, but I also know when I'm being screwed. Had our server apologised for the wait, and been pleasant, Savage Tavern could have recovered from the earlier mishap, stuff happens! Instead, the server who waited on us had a terrible attitude and treated us like we were carrying a particularly nasty strain of plague. It completely ruined our experience. I'm curious what was going on with management that morning, because obviously no one was watching the dining room. I can see by the menu that someone at Savage Tavern is putting in a lot of work and really trying to make the place succeed, but you really need to train your staff. Get a head server, a host, someone who can keep the floor organised when you get busy if you're planning on hosting regular dining hours AND special events at the same time. read more

We generally really love this place because of great drinks and great food, but today's service was way under par. They were short staffed and for a big football weekend is a little disappointing. It took about 20 minutes just to get greeted and our food took almost an hour to come out. Unfortunately the food was cold when we received it, but we were so hungry we ate it anyways because we didn't want it to take longer if we sent it back.
