Reviewing this Savemart location purely because it was a "diamond in the rough" in terms of road trip pitstop bathrooms. When traveling with two small children and a grandmother, those emergency bathroom stops happen more than you think. Thankfully we found the Savemart via the Yelp app and discovered not only some of the cleanest, public restrooms, but also amazing air conditioning, super organized shelves and a friendly staff. The family restrooms are located in the back of the store while the non-family restrooms are in the far left corner of the store. Beyond clean restrooms to save Mart has an amazing produce section, fully loaded deli and a cute little bakery tucked in the corner. Basically everything most Save Mart's offer. I head to Sacramento around three to four times a year for both work and for pleasure, so I will be bookmarking this Save Mart in my road trip restroom collection! Potty hard, my friends. read more

Chowchilla, Ca- I recently went to a cabin and this Save Mart was way colder. the coldest one I've been to. I got some potato strips there, and they were great! it was decently clean, but one big issue. THE BATHROOM. it was a family multi-gender restroom, and there was lots of writing. After, I tried to unlock the top lock, but it wouldn't unlock until I used much force. If you have to use the restroom, DONT come here. I hen checking out, (I think his name was Jasper) and plastic bags were wanted. He said plastic is illegal in California, but there were plastic things in our cart. don't ask for plastic here. Visited the one in Chowchilla California while visiting, wow what a lovely store, walking in you are greeted by the beautiful bouquets and vases of flowers beautifully arranged , their seafood and meat department was awesome, and they sell wine beer and liquor, which saved us from driving for miles, we look forward to our next visit and hope this is helpful to anyone visiting Chowchilla read more

MEAT! DON'T BUY IT! Today l purchased a package of sliced pork chops with the Pick Five. We could not eat them. As opposed to checking. My dog had to swallow whole! This grocery store is way over priced on everything! It's more expensive than the stores in Oakhurst that have to have their food trucked up the mountain! This store is right off 99 freeway, so they have no excuse to charge what they do. They get away with it because they are the largest grocery in Chowchilla!!! I only shop there if I have run out of something and need it immediately! I shop in Madera . It's a 15 mile drive but feel it's worth it!!! read more

The mangos bought where mushy and brown on the inside and tasted as if they where metal. I made a drink with it and I had to throw it all away. That money went to waste. Ambiance. the sushi from their is really good though and was glad they had aloha maid drinks! read more

What has happened??? I have shopped at this SM for over 20+ years and it has gone downhill since the new corporation came in. Prices went high, is it because you're the only big chain in our town and you believe you can get away with it! My big complaint is the shelves are stocked with outdated items. I must admit I am bad at looking at the date stamp when shopping but I feel I should be able to trust my grocery store to sell quality items. Example; got home with mustard and when I looked at the date it was 3 MONTHS EXPIRED. This is only one of many instances that I've had with expired products over the last year. This is not just with jar, canned and packaged shelf foods, it is also with the eggs, dairy and frozen foods. Another issue is the lack of shopping carts. I have to return to the parking lot at times to hunt one down. I am going to start driving to Madera to shop at the competitors, even with the drive and gas, I'll come out ahead with price and quality. My only sadness with my finding a new store is I will miss some of the checkers I've gotten to know. read more

I like the cooked steak for $5 but most pantry items I purchased looked expired even though they had not pass their best by date. I'm still contemplating if the discolored pieces of canned fruit cocktails are edible. They're just all so yellow even the cherries. The staff were nice and the store was empty so that's always good. But I wonder if it's just empty because most of their food quality is questionable. I didn't bother going back because it didn't seem worthwhile to complain about a couple of canned fruits and vegetables. read more

Ever since the new owners took over the staffing has gone downhill. Show up at the wrong time and there is no service in the deli or the meat counter. lines at check out are much longer. I get the impression that maxing profits is more important than service. The have a monopoly in the area and don't care. read more

We have a great SM here. The employees are local and awesome people. Always clean, usually if lines get backed up, it is quickly alleviated. As a volunteer firefighter, we have always apricated their support. In the past, they have donated PALLETS of bottled water. They have let CVFD setup outside for fundraising. They have been a great ally of CVFD. read more

Bought 2 large t bone steak. We cooked them. They were so tough my knife wouldn't cut through it. So disappointing they were not cheap. We always had excellent meat. IDK what happen here. I was driving by and needed to stop to get some birthday cards and a birthday cake. The inside of the store was nice and open and very clean. Friendly people and very convenient. Usually have what I need or an alternative to it. Have dry ice which is great. It is also said that the place might be haunted which adds character to the place. well i,m kalvin that worked at that store in chowchilla for 8 months until the rude disgusting co-workers made it unbearable for me to continue. since then i have met with union and company wanting my job back just as long changes to co-workers behaviors were made. i noticed new baggers on sunday that did not give a damn about the customers or the job, just farting around the store. shameful that management refuses to keep good employees as i learned 4 good people quit. as long as management treats there people like crap the revolving door will continue. as for me i am optimistic but in would like to go back in december i have no further medical insurance and i need it for my health condition so we will see. like my mother says what goes around comes around. if you heard some of the ugly comments made to me please dont be afraid to speak up, the only way change is possible is when your willing to speak up for what you believe is right.. read more

I love the store itself. The African American lady that works in produce is the best employee. I asked her for something once and she walked me from produce to the cheese area which was on the farthest wall. Most employees would just say isle #. Most of the check out people are rude. The baggers are more friendly. Although today I had one small bag and the girl asked if I needed help taking it to my car. I found that odd. I'm only 45 and in good health. Really love this savemart. Everyone is always so pleasant and friendly - except one or two. Seriously sick of going up to One in particular and after watching her interact with her previous customer takes one look at me and looks like she sucked on a sour lemon. I don't know this person and she may not be required to be friendly but to not be so obviously rude would be nice. Her and another older cashier do this every single time. I bought this ground beef from Save Mart in Chowchilla. There are bits of black stuff (plastic?) ground up throughout the meat! I called the store and was instructed to bring it back. The evening manager, Emmanuel, was questioning how that could've happened. He refunded my money and walked with us to the butcher department to give us another pack of ground beef. He handed me a package and at this point, I'm already pissed and skeptical. So I look at the package that he JUST HANDED ME and there are bits of black stuff in that too!!! He was appalled and embarrassed. They better get to the bottom of this. I'm highly disappointed. read more
