Extremely helpful and knowledgeable in picking out and fitting me for a suit needed for my daughter's wedding.

My husband has unique measurements, so off-the-rack shirts don't fit properly. Several months ahead of hubby's birthday, I visited Dakota with a few shirts I knew my husband was currently wearing, so they must fit fairly well. I didn't have my husband's actual measurements, and the shirts I brought to compare were NOT all the same sizes! Dakota was optimistic and up for the challenge! (His supervisor didn't look so comfortable with this idea lol) Dakota spent a good couple of hours meticulously measuring and filling out a form, helped me decide on an obscure color my husband wanted, along with cuffs, collars, monogram, blahblah lol - he was soo patient! David and his team made me the second best dressed person at my wedding...behind my wife of course. I came in with a picture of what I wanted my suit to look like and David said "no problem." I got a custom made suit and a custom made shirt. Both items were even better than I could have imagined and well worth the price. I am getting married next weekend, so I thought I would celebrate the occasion by ordering my very first completely custom suit. Big mistake. I was initially impressed with the fitting because the lady in the shop asked me so many questions, down to the lining of the coat, the placement and shape of pockets, etc. I paid half of the cost of the suit as a deposit and looked forward to picking up my beautiful suit. But when I went in for my alteration fitting, those details had been ignored. The lining was wrong, the pockets were not as I designed. The lady in the shop assured me everything could be fixed, not to worry, it may take time but we will definitely make it right. Yesterday I picked up the suit, and with TEN DAYS until my wedding, they told me sorry, actually none of those things can be fixed after it is finished, they would have to completely remake the coat. So I asked them to please remake the coat, I can live with it through the ceremony next weekend but I just want it right eventually, they said sorry, we won't do that. Payments made toward custom clothing are (of course) non-refundable. Having already paid for half of a $1,800 suit and with no time left to explore other options, I had no choice but to pay the rest and walk out with a suit I don't love. I could have spent a third of the price on an off-the-rack suit and been happier than I am today. I am going in to my wedding next week feeling like I wasted $1,800 on a suit that will always disappoint me every single time I see it in my closet. For this price, I thought I was getting careful attention to detail. What I got was careless employees and no willingness to make things right when faced with their own obvious mistakes. WOW! What a great experience with Dave and his staff. I was always skeptical of custom made shirts, pants, jackets and all of it. Shame on me! I can't believe what I have been missing. From the detailed measurements to picking of the fabrics and colors to the final tailoring, the entire process is easy and enjoyable. Of course, it was made all the better with Dave's guidance and explanation of what works and doesn't work (on me..lol). See you soon, Dave. You're stuck with me! I had a very bad experience at Savile Row. I went into the shop looking for a quality custom-made suit made by experts, but came away feeling totally gypped. I have bought several custom suits in Chicago, but this was by far the worst experience and can barely coompare. The staff has no concept of how a modern and tailor-made suit should fit. The owner was downright insulting. During fittings it became clear that almost every measurement was off. Several of the details I requested were missing. Once the suit was delivered the sleeves were still unfinished. And the In the end, including alterations, the suit cost twice as much as I expected and fits worse than something off-the-rack. I highly recommend looking elsewhere for quality clothing, a good value, and/or a nice personal experience. read more

I have shopped at Savile Row twice. The first time in was in the very late 1990's. I just earned many hundreds of thousands of dollars investing and decided to treat myself to a couple sport coats. While asking questions, I happened to glance at the owner who I caught rolling his eyes at me to the sales lady. I couldn't believe it. Then, in 2013 I thought I would give them a try again. The experience was a nightmare. They could not get the suit to fit my chest without "bubbling". They said it would take two months to correct. Two months later I called, and they asked if I was ready to have it altered. When I said, it has supposed to have been altered over the past two months they actually argued with me and would not admit the mistake. I picked up the suit and gave it to a charity that outfits less fortunate men. Furthermore, I recently learned the SR suits are actually nothing special. They are machine made to your approximate size, and then altered to fit. They are simply not a quality product. You are paying for the name and marketing and to line the owner's pocket. You have been warned. read more
