Dr. Jane performed a miracle yesterday. I have always had a perfect smile, but over the years due to my clenching of my jaw it completely ruined my upper teeth. My two front teeth were cracked and I was missing a lot of tooth. My teeth on the side as well were affected, and food was getting stuck up in them, I was embarrassed to smile. Yesterday, Dr. Jane gave me my confidence and my smile back, and I will be forever grateful. I feel like myself again, and I have not for a long, long time. Pros: We've been going to SDA since the mid-70's, when Dr. David Savin presided over the practice. Currently we see both his son, Rob, and Michelle Piefley for dental exams and procedures, and a variety of hygienists, but primarily Magda. (There are two other dentists in the practice, but I don't have any experience with them). Drs. Rob and Michelle are both excellent, experienced dentists with pleasant and calming bedside manners, take pride in their work and are perfectionists. Not once have I ever felt that they recommended a course of action that was unnecessary. If they feel a procedure is warranted that they don't feel comfortable doing, they have a tight network of local endodontists, periodontists, etc. Every hygienist I've ever had has been pleasant and knowledgeable; most of them have been with the practice for decades. Each room has an air cleaner and a TV. The administrative staff is also super-friendly and helpful. Minor Cons: 1. To my knowledge, SDA is not in any dental insurance network. That doesn't mean that you always end up paying the entire bill without coverage; it just means that your net cost for going there may end up being higher than if you utilized an in-network provider. However, they always submit to my insurance, which always pays something, and I'm responsible for the difference. 2. They don't have any patient portal that I know of for making/changing appointments, paying invoices - you have to call. Unless you call during lunchtime, a friendly actual person always picks up the phone promptly. 3. Some dental practices have labs on premises, which can speed up the waiting time for certain procedures; in my experience, SDA farms out their lab work to local specialists and has never brought that work in-house. read more

I have been having this pain on the left-bottom-crowned tooth whenever I bite. The first dentist said maybe I need a root canal without doing much, the second one did an adjustment and it got better but not totally, and the third one...Dr. Jane Maa took the time to explain the possible problem after she studied the x ray, gently investigate, then explain to me what she can do to fix it. She took the time to make adjustments and checked if I am in pain on and off until she believed the problem is fixed. Wow wow wow!!! I am so happy because I am pain free now. Since moving to the burbs I've found my kids some great docs, but have been making the trek to the city for my own Dr appointments. Making the trip every 6 months for a cleaning isn't a big deal, although I learned last week when you have a toothache you want your dentist to be just a few minutes away. My tooth had been killing me for days. I'm a nighttime teeth grinder so figured that was the issue, but when advil didn't solve the problem I got a bit nervous...especially since I was scheduled to leave on a work trip the next day and the pain was unbearable. I did a Yelp search for the closest dentist and discovered Savin Dental Associates. I started walking to the office and figured i"d just pop in just like any old manicure. I called on the way and explained I wasn't a patient (yet), but would appreciate if a dentist could take a few minutes to see me. The woman who answered was a total sweetheart and asked if I could be there in a few minutes. Of course I could- i was right outside their door (literally). Minutes later I was sitting in Dr Savin's chair and he informed me I had cracked my molar. Ouch! And a few minutes after that he had temporarily fixed my problem and I was pain free! I booked another appointment to go back for a permanent crown in a few weeks. Everyone including Dr Savin was so warm and helpful! I noticed that most of the staff had been there 10+ years, which is always a good sign. I've had a good 11 years w/ my dentist in the city, Lincoln Park Dental Associates*, but out of convenience think it's time to move on. Been going to Savin Dental Associates since I was kid. So there was no doubt when I had children my kids would go too. We drive all the way from Long Grove to see Dr. Jane and everyone at Savin Dental Associates is so wonderful. I especially love calling in and getting a real person. No auto prompts!!! And you get know all the wonderful staff by name. My oldest son is 6 years old and still gets anxious at times to go to the dentist but they make he feel so welcomed and safe. Now in 1st grade he can go in by himself which is really a big deal for me as a parent. Yesterday he walked out of his appointment with such a smile. Dr Peifley is not only a brilliant dentist but she is also incredibly compassionate and kind. She truly cares about each and every patient. I have had many complicated issues over the years and I am always blown away by how much she cares and how knowledgeable and brilliant she is. She has saved a couple of my teeth that other dentists would have given up on, working tirelessly in order to do so. When I've had emergencies she calls back immediately and always fits me into her schedule when it's a true emergency. When I have had to have a tooth pulled she is so kind and empathetic, and you could even see the compassion in her eyes and hear it in her voice. She is my hero! Also, no review of Savin Dental could be complete without mentioning how kind and efficient their staff is! Plus, the waiting room and all of the rooms are sparkling clean and they have air cleaners in every room. Dr. Savin made me a wonderful mouthguard. He also bonded a broken front tooth that has lasted much longer than others I have had done. His chairs are the most comfortable I have ever sat in. The cleanliness during co-vid is absolutely the ultimate. The hygeinist uses a sonic device which is excelllent. She is excellent. They practice is very well organized and prompt. Prices are outrageous and told we needed work that was not needed. My family and I were happy here at first when we recently started with this place even though the cleanings were very mediocre. Their prices are astronomically high (way above most), and they have no policy, and are unwilling to work with patients who do not have dental insurance coverage. Many other dentists will offer even a slight payment reduction or they have their own plans for paying out of pocket. So the prices forced us to go elsewhere (which in the end was a blessing!!) and where 2 of us were told that the work Savin Dental said was needed, was actually not needed. This has happened before with another dentist and I believe this to be somewhat common among dentists. I also just read an article about this and how patients get duped into having costly dental procedures that is really not needed. It's all good though now because we found a way more trustworthy and excellent dental group who is way superior with way way more technically advanced equipment and they offer a yearly dental plan for their patients who they seem to care more about. Do your research folks and get second opinions! read more

I have been a patient of Savin Associates for almost 25 years. I saw Dr. Craig until he retired and have been seeing Dr. Michelle for at least 15 years. Dr. Michelle is a true professional with an AMAZING bedside manner. She is thorough but not excessive and takes the comfort of her patient very seriously. I have been plagued with a terrible dental phobia my entire life. My dentist as a child used to fill my cavities without novocaine and I am still afraid of dentists, even tho they don't hurt me anymore. I was looking for a dentist who offered nitrous oxide because I need more than just Valium to calm me down enough to go through with an appointment. We moved to town several months ago and I hadn't been for awhile to a dentist and was certain they'd find problems. I was very nervous. They offered to give me nitrous to do the initial exam and cleaning. For some people, that may seem silly but I was relaxed through the procedures and it was what I needed to have a successful visit. I felt like they understood my fears and worked with me to have a good visit. That means a lot to someone who is phobic. Everyone, including dental hygienist, was so nice and gentle and I felt safe there. read more

I simply "dropped in" on a Saturday morning because I had a problem. Dr. Michelle saw me after just a few minutes wait. She determined I needed to see an oral surgeon and called one on the spot! I was able to get in to see Dr. Hoffman the same morning. I've never had it happen that a professional would take the time to reach out on a patient's behalf and not simply say "you have to see someone else, good luck".
