So completely disappointed in Saving K9 Lives -- my husband Ryan (review below) and I attempted to adopt a senior dog from this rescue for the past week. The owner had us jump through several rounds of hoops/interviews/aspects of the application process, only to visit our home yesterday and decide our neighborhood (note: not us, not our actual home specifically, but the neighborhood itself) wasn't appropriate for an adoption. (Worth noting - our address was included on the initial adoption form...) The owner (Jasmin) did not even have the decency to even call us to confirm we weren't accepted to adopt the dog, but instead posts a Facebook picture immediately after leaving our home, saying that the dog is available. I followed up with her via email today, and received the below in response. How does how other owners care (or don't care) for their pets have any impact at all on my abilities as a potential pet owner? No idea... "I am so sorry about yesterday. I was ready to adopt Eloise to you. It is the neighborhood that concerns me. My rescue friend adopted a dog to someone who paid a lot of money ($450) for the dog in the same neighborhood. The dog was hit by a car and dumped at North Central Shelter. My rescue friend got the dog back and had to pay a lot of medical bills as he had a broken leg. After I left, there was a chihuahua with out any collar walking down the street. I mention that the final adoption is determined on the home check as photos let me know if we should continue on. I feel that you would be great adopters, but I will not adopt to the neighborhood.." Sitting here heartbroken, and disappointed that despite being great dog owners (which she even concedes to in her note) we're still being discriminated against. Horrified! Just awful. Extremely disappointed in Saving K9 Lives. The owner Jasmin seemed more interested in interrogating my personal life asking about my relationship status/future possible marriage plans (Seriously?), rather than informing me about the puppy's needs. Not to mention she was so keen on selling her "only sold in England" products to people. I tried to hide my disgust since the other ladies were very nice. So today I decided to write a review to save some of you from disappointment. Had I read these reviews prior to sending my adoption application and attending the meet/greet I would've avoided this scam entirely! So this past Saturday Claims: 1) Want what is "best" for the puppy 2) Told that they wanted to consider all applicants thoroughly (since there were a few others). And since Jasmin's birthday was on Monday, she wouldn't review any applicants until Tuesday/Wednesday. She made that clear by saying that twice. So I felt reassured. Reality: 1) Who is willing to offer "pay" the most for this puppy? 2) Puppy was apparently adopted on Sunday. Period. I would never recommend them to anyone who is looking to adopt. read more

Jasmin is wonderful. Very caring and helps so many dogs. She helped me get my dads dog. I see there are some negative reviews about her adoption process. All I can say is thank god she does due diligence. Not everyone deserves to have a dog and not everyone should have one. Not financially stable? What happens when you have to move and the new apartment you want to move into doesn't allow dogs? Dogs cost money..what happens in 5 years when the dog god forbid gets cancer or sick? Live in an area with coyotes or a bad neighborhood where bad people kidnap dogs and then use them as bait dogs to dog fighters-and you leave your dog in the backyard all day when you're at work?? Small children that may jump on and hurt a fragile dog? There are MANY reasons why a good rescue wouldn't choose one adopter when there are other adopters out there who are better suited for the dog. Do those reviewers really think that the rescue doesn't want to get the dog out of the vet's boarding or a foster home and into a forever home? read more

Jasmin is awesome! As a first time adopter I was surprised of finding out how daunting the adoption process can be.One would think that Jasmin and her crew were a little on the quirky side but there's a reason.. They LOVE their dogs!!! Not going into detail, you would think that asking certain questions were off limits and a little personal but you know what, that is what makes Jasmin so endearing. Jasmine and her crew are very thorough and detailed in finding the right match for every dog that gets adopted. Sometimes there are two or more families vying for a dog and she makes sure everyone in the process knows that it is a group vote of her crew that determines which home the dog goes to. Through such a group vote my family was unanimously chosen to take home Merlin (aka Peter). We were told that two other families were hoping to take home our puppy and we lucked out. I honestly don't know what was different about us vs. the other families but I'd like to believe that Jasmin and her crew are good judges of character. Huge thanks to Jasmin for responding to a call I made (thanks to Siri on my phone finding her - other places that came up didn't even respond to my calls)... about a lost pup outside of Sepulveda Basin Dog Park. I had a pack of 5 with me, so I was unable to take the pup anywhere myself. But she responded and came to the park and got the pup and that evening got the pup back into the owner's arms. Cannot thank her enough for her help with that pup. Huge thanks!!! read more

This place I believe is a scam. They have dogs listed for adoption and once you apply they say they are not for adoption. Not one call to get to know us or inquire about what we could provide the dog. I know for a fact we would be able to love and provide for the dog we applied for. Yet they give excuses. As someone else mentioned above they are in this for their best interests not the dogs. read more

My wife and I recently tried to adopt a lovely 7 pound senior dog from Saving K9 Lives. I hate to give a rescue a poor rating as I would love all the dogs to be adopted, but the owner has no right to be "helping" any animals. We both have a lot of experience with dogs, old and new, while she was even a veterinary assistant for many years. We fully understand the risks of adopting an older dog, as we have a 12 year old terrier mix right now. We should have known by the self important, convoluted description of herself on the website describing who she is, who her husband is and the simple fact that she doesn't have much experience with animals. All the talk about "the biz" was a lot more important than any facts that were thrown in at the bottom about actual animals. This will come into play later... We filled out an application for the dog a week ago and after some back and forth, we got to meet her at an adoption event. My wife fell in love and the person who fosters the dog fell in love with us as well. This dog that didn't warm up to any other potential new owners, was like butter in my wife's arms. We didn't realize that other people were looking at the dog that same day and were told that we would have to wait until the end of the day for a call from Jasmin. We were a little bummed, but its OK, we will wait on her call... Jasmin called us that night and continuously insulted our age, telling us that she was not sure that we could afford the medical bills on a senior dog.... We are both almost 30, have owned the most expensive dog to take care of (English Bulldog), plus have our amazing old man Terrier at home right now!!! Even after telling Jasmin multiple times these facts and the fact that we are very experienced with owning dogs, she persisted in telling us that we were too young. On top of that, Jasmin continued to tell us about the food that the new dog would require and was concerned with us affording it since it's pretty expensive. Again, we're 2 almost 30 year old adults, living on our own, with full time jobs. It gets tiring after hearing this for a while, but my wife kept nice because of how enamored she was with the dog. With the amount of times she complained about our adult age and the countless times that she brought up who's wife she was and random garbage about show business, my wife was tired of hearing it. The way she talks with her chin up is honestly the reason people hate people from Los Angeles. Jasmin asked for a bunch of pictures of our current dog and apartment, so we obliged with that as well. Understandable that she wants to see where the dog lives, so that wasn't a big deal. After all of this, we get a call that she wants to have a home visit. No problem, my wife will work from home like she does a lot of the time and they will have a little meet up. They set up the appointment and when the time came, Jasmin was not there. My wife calls her and has to reschedule a new time in the day since she is still working and all. Jasmin got huffy about that and agreed to a new time. Showing up late to the next appointment, Jasmin has the dog in hand and the first thing out of her mouth is "I don't like this neighborhood, I don't feel safe here". From that moment on, the entire home visit was soured with that bad attitude. Our dog got along great with the hopeful adoptee and everything else about our apartment was perfect for the dog, so we thought things went great! Jasmin ended up leaving with that same bad attitude and told us we didn't have to bother filling out the adoption sheets. We noticed a few hours after she left, there was a new post online about how the dog is up for adoption still and no one will adopt her... We didn't even get a call or anything to let us know about this and it completely broke our hearts. My wife sent her an email this morning and this was the reply: "I am so sorry about yesterday. While this rescue is to be commended for taking in lots of special needs & senior dogs that other rescues would not, they will reject people who would give a dog a loving & caring home if this rescue does not like the area where a person lives. So unless you live in what they consider an upscale neighborhood, decent neighborhood do not waste your time trying to adopt a dog from them. They just assume that if you are living in what they consider to be a lower class neighborhood that you cannot afford to take care of a dog and so should not be allowed to have a dog. Perhaps it is just insular dumbness on their part but they do not seem to realize that people living in Beverly Hills can also mistreat a pet, while a person in Pacoima is capable of sacrificing so much for a beloved pet. My experience with this organization was similar to Kay G's review. While no doubt, they take care of their dogs, they have no idea on how to treat people. There are so many other wonderful organizations, I would recommend adopting from another. It all started when I inquired about a dog I saw online. I filled out an application online to show how serious I was. Was told to come to an event to meet the dog. My wife and I went without our sons so as to potentially surprise our boys. The event was strange. All the dogs were in a separated area and in addition to the dogs that were going to be adopted, there were a pack of dogs roaming around yapping and barking. It felt more like a bizarre psychological experiment than an adoption. So my wife and I sat down and when they told us they had looked at our house on google, to be honest I felt a little violated. They then asked a lot of probing questions about our house. My wife mentioned we had a live-in housekeeper so the dogs would never be left alone. Their response, So the housekeeper will raise the dog. Huh? We were then told to bring our other dog and our sons to see how everyone interacted. Our other dog was at the groomers. So we picked up our sons and our dog and went back down and waited 40 minutes to be seen at the pet store. We have twin 10 year old boys who love their dog. But rather than play with the dog or really interact with him. They sat in folding chairs like it was a job interview. The boys were scared and barely said anything. When we left, we all felt humiliated. We have a wonderful loving home with a yard and a fence but somehow we weren't good enough. We then received a curt email telling us we had been denied. Save yourself some trouble. Go to your local shelter or find any other organization where you will find people who treat humans with the same respect as dogs. read more

Jasmin and her volunteers were fabulous. She was very thorough and asked many questions with the adoption process. She was very concerned the dog would a good fit in our home. I appreciate how thorough she was and when she did her home visit she noticed a few things we needed to adjust. It was excellent advice since we always had big dogs and this was our first small dog (sneaky escape areas on our fence, kitty interactions, etc.). You can tell this is a labor of love for her and our family appreciates all the hard work the rescue does for the animals. Our pup, Maya, is a perfect fit for our family and a total joy. read more

I am having some mixed feelings about the place.. a little dirty and not enough reviews. the guys there seemed nice and most the dogs seemed to be in good shape with somewhat happy mood. I think I will go back there and rescue one of the sick puppies. read more

We filled out an application for a puppy. Went to meet him and fell in love. We're asked to run home an hour each way to get our other dog so they could meet. Did as asked, our dog loved him. Sat down talked about everything and left with all to be done is a home visit. Was told they would bring the dog with them when they came. Waited for the phone call to make the appointment, it never came. Finally got ahold of them through email and were told our application was denined due to no backyard. We had told them we lived In a condo, showed them pictures inside and out, and were never once told this was going to be a problem. My two little girls had named him, got him toys, and bought him a bed that now sits empty. Do not use this place they have idea how to treat people. I do not recommend them. Savingk9lives is a wonderful rescue. Jasmine loves all the dogs she saves and puts her heart and sole into each one. We adopted our beautiful maltese Penny from jasmine. She literally saved her life and we are so grateful to her. Jasmine is particular about who she adopts to but it's because she truly loves these dogs. read more

I started following Saving K9 Lives Plus on Facebook about a year ago after hearing about them from a friend, and felt compelled today to write a review after realizing that not a day has gone by that I have not seen some amazing post by them about their efforts to save dogs from being euthanized, and their absolute gallant efforts to make ailing dogs well. This is the most devoted and loving group of people I've ever seen, owners, fosters, doctors, groomers,...their teamwork is just incredible, and their love for these dogs melts your heart and makes you want to cheer for them and the dogs they save. Their Facebook page keeps people updated on these dogs who almost become little celebrities, dogs who would never had lived had it not been for this great group of people. My kids and I love being able to follow the dogs on Facebook as they go from sickness to health to adoption. We adopted a dog from them this past summer, a dog they rescued, severely injured from a car accident and on the kill list at the shelter. We now have a wonderful ongoing relationship with the owners and fosters, we love bringing our dog to their adoptions and events, knowing how excited they get to see her and keep up with her since they literally brought her back to life, caring for her for several months until she was ready for adoption. And, lucky us, we now have a dog that is so loving and so obviously appreciative of the love we give her. The dogs they rescue get so much love and care from the incredible director Jasmin, and her fosters, that by the time you adopt them, you are lucky to have a dog that has been so loved that it shows in the dogs personality. They work tirelessly to assure each dog has the best home, they want to be sure when they adopt it's forever and a wonderful match. I trust and cherish all of their knowledge and advice, it's an added bonus to feel connected to people who care and are there for you and your dog. We will for sure adopt another one day and will 100% go straight to Saving K9 Lives Plus without a doubt! read more
