    Salmon BLT. Dry and flavorless.
    Kat B.

We stopped in for lunch before exploring the Kingston area. Our server was attentive, but his recommendations were off. He proclaimed the salmon BLT to be one of the best items on the menu and it was dry and bland. Very disappointing. The chicken pear sandwich with fig jam and gorgonzola was also nearly flavorless. The chicken didn't seem to be seasoned and there was precious little gorgonzola. The featured bean soup was tasty. And the fries were good. Best part of the meal were the garlic breadsticks that were served to the table. They were fantastic. The cocktail I ordered also wasn't great. Atmosphere seemed like it could be lively at dinner, but was pretty low key at lunchtime. It's a nice place, and I would give it a second shot.

Not far from the Roundout Creek, Savona's Trattoria is definitely not your mom & pop, quaint place down by the dockside. Although it looks cozy on the outside, not long after you come in, Savona's feels more modernish without having that old school, homey feel. In some ways, our visit on a Friday night, reminded me when my husband and I went to Monroe College's Culinary School+Rest't, The Dining Lab where students serve you. Oh wait... that service at that culinary school, was actually a lot better than here. We're not even sure if we came during high school night(no offense) because the majority of the floor people.... I mean kids, were uninterested. One busboy doubled as a waiter, was so out of touch with proper handling of knives, that I had to teach him how to properly hand over a knife to someone with the handle facing the patron. Our server Aisha(?) was MIA the majority of the time and it was upsetting. Our salad starters were fabulous- especially mine with grilled Bosch pears and fresh figs. My limoncello+basil+prosecco drink was a major loss and was basically lemon water. But, our main plates of shrimp scampi and hubs' chicken franchese, were each tasty with a sublime butter+ lemon sauce. We could drink the sauce just like that. Interesting night for sure. The original 'Volare' played (I only know because I heard the first few beats)- but with all the talking here and LOUD- it was just too much to bear. We're not sure if this happens every time- but we probably picked the loudest night because we couldn't hear ourselves talk. While Savona's isn't within earshot, the less than 25 minute drive to get to this side of Kingston, isn't bad at all. The last several times we've dined at restaurants nearby, Savona's seems to be buzzing. The atmosphere is certainly lively, Kudos to Savona's for offering fresh and delicious food- but someone needs to seriously help these waiters. If you're looking for an old school Italian restaurant where you're treated like family and attentive service, this won't be your bag,

    Pineapple Upside Down Martini
    Mary T.

We just came off the boat without reservations but they were able to accommodate our merry little group. To start, the breadsticks are amazing covered in a pesto type oil and our drinks were great. We tried the pineapple upside down martini and it was well balanced. We purposely didn't order appetizers because we wanted to have dessert! I got the spicy vodka chicken Parmesan and it was out of this world. It had thin layers of cherry peppers between the chicken and the sauce/cheese and it just set that vodka sauce above all sauces. Two large pieces of chicken (not too thin thank God) covered in yummy cherry peppers and yummy vodka sauce. LOVED IT SO MUCH!!!! The rigatoni was cooked perfectly al dente. This meal was such a pleasure to eat. Everyone loved their meals and they all looked delicious and beautifully presented. I tried some of the meatballs and they were great too. Really large and moist. We made it to dessert for the first time in a long time and hubby and I shared the chocolate lava cake. It was my bff's birthday so she chose the tiramisu. The desserts were also delicious. I wish I remembered to take pictures! We left full and happy. It was a wonderful end to our special day out on the boat. I highly recommend it.

Fig and Gorgonzola Pizza - no bacon and gf crust
    Keri C.

Came in early this Saturday and we're immediately seated. Staff were friendly and immediately greeted us. We ordered two glasses of wine which arrived promptly with a basket of bread. Once we ordered meals, the waiter kindly asked if my gf pizza was an allergy, to which I replied yes. Upon this new information, he immediately brought out some gluten free bread, which hardly ever happens! I ordered the fig & Gorgonzola pizza with no bacon and on a gluten free crust. My husband ordered Nona's Famous Sunday Sauce. Everything was delicious! We usually don't order dessert, however, everything was so great I needed to at least try a late and some gelato. The lemon gelato had tiny slices of lemons in it and had the perfect amount of sour to it. I would definitely recommend to anyone, especially for those looking for gf options.

A very big craving for the dishes swept over me, like a tsunami! A delicious tsunami of love cooked into the food. Great ingredients! I can taste them all. Back to Owner & her daughter, another Beauty! I'm beginning again. Hi. I met angels today! Yes I did! They Are Real. Yup! Between the Kindness of the Owner & her daughter, I'm returning from heavenly right now. She told me, she would try to get a food delivery to me & voila! She took some thoughtfulness, kindness & generosity from her heart & soon, my doorbell rings. Yup. I met her daughter next. I didn't know! I called her mom, "My angel!" She smiled & said, "That's my mom." I said, "You're both incredibly lucky & blessed." She smiled again, dazzling & said, "I know I am." Now, here, please note. Yes, she brought me my food. I asked if the next time she was in my hood, if she'd mind dropping me off a menu. She smiled as she left. "No problem!" About 5 bites later, my doorbell rings again. It was Dazzling angel. She has a pizza box & Menu in her hands. She said, "I forgot to bring you our Bread. I'm sorry. Here's our Menu & there are new items on it." Really my speedy brain jumps ahead to? OMG! More deliciousness to chose from?! Holy moly. She handed both to me, I opened pizza box & think I passed out! Face in Bread. Yumm. "No, I'm good. You go on ahead. Thanks tho lol." No! I'm Not suggesting that you have my week, nor my "luck"! No. I'm not saying that La Florentina can, nor should, nor would be capable of doing all this, all the time or even once again. But, holy freakin, try the food here! WoW! Yumm I ordered way too much food, leftovers. Yay! Thank goodness! Chicken in Mushroom Sauce. I'm gonna try including pics, but. Yea, well..... we shall see. Perfect! It's light, while filling. The flavors, partially due to great Ingredient Sourcing, partially cause food is prepared with love & of course, because putting chicken, tomatoes, onions, mushrooms & spinach over penne-Genius! It's Delicious! Bread. Like Focaccia, but more better imo! Besides being as light as air & as delicious as a dream. Yea. It's ok lol. Freakin Delish! Eggplant Rollatini. Spelling? sorry. Eggplant, mine was stuffed with mozzarella cheese & had some chicken stuffed inside too. The red sauce, gravy, tomato sauce-all same thing btw, in American - Italian speak, Outstanding. Is there such a thing as Simple & Complex, concurrently? Now there is! I got so lost in the gravy, I forgot what I was eating! My mind drifted sideways, to Florence, Venice, Rome & other places I've lived in & visited, in Italy. The flavors in this, the taste, that's what did this to me! It tastes like Home, childhood & happiness-all smooshed together! I'm about to cry now. Get it together Jolie! Ok! sorry. Tiramisu-Yup. I said it! OMG! I've been fantasizing about 2 things for a while now. Ok, maybe 4 lol. Hush you plz lol. I ordered 2 pieces! "Of course you did Jolie!" Yup! 1 for now & the other for breakfast! Yup & try it for breakfast, see how good your willpower is sometime, before ya knock it please. Holy moly this is Good. Every flavor Balances. I'm not kidding! It's just perfect is all. Yup. Great Jolie! Now there won't be any left for you anymore. That's ok. I share. Now for easy, but probably my hard fail part. Bringing in the pics! In zero way do my photos here (I hope they come. My pics. Hello lol) represent the incredible foods here. Just a "try" on my part. Overall, I can't Believe it's taken me this long, to find La Florentina! What is wrong with me?! Holy hell Batman?! Thank You Ladies, for making my heart so full, I cried happy tears from all of your kindness-es. Thank you for the love you infuse into your foods! I couldn't stop eating & now I'm waddling around like I'm pregnant. Food baby. I genuinely couldn't stop my hand from putting another bite into my mouth & another. Meanwhile , I'm moaning at being Soo way full. I'm laughing & feeling kinda-out of body. I finally had to grab my right hand, with my left & hold it down! The food is that good! I'm not joking. I'm glad you're laughing! You Know! Now I'm laughing too. Thank You for that! When a restaurant's food, evokes not only childhood tastes & memories, (clearly this makes me biased) & tastes this amazing. Well, you follow your own star please. I'm staying right here thank you. Ladies, I'm stunned, delighted & so full of delightful goodness! If I say thank you, to you both, for the rest of my Life, 1,000 times a day, it will never be enough to me! Thank You Angels! From my heart this one. Hugs to you both. Honored here. With love & hugs. Jolie Lives

They really don't skimp on the portions. Calamari included tentacles which I didn't expect from this kind of place; it was fresh and pretty much as good as it gets, especially upstate. Eggplant rollatini was well made and showcased their really good sauce. Vodka sauce was fantastic, and chicken cutlet was plentiful and on the well done side. I think I got 3 meals out of this and I'm not a small dude.
