    Burrata Board
    Mary T.

It's Veterans Day and we are out with friends for dinner. First I am very disappointed that they don't do anything special for the veterans, not even a free drink or dessert. Our server was also very slow, it took so long just to get some beers and sodas to the table. Actually the service was not great at all even though she was nice. It was just so slow. Let me take you through our evening. First apps. The presentation of the Burrata board was great! I was so excited to try everything. Most of It was good but the meat felt dried out and the Burrata was lumpy. I know it's not supposed to be like that. If you've been to Italy...you know what it's supposed to be like. The calamari perfect . It was moist, not rubbery and fried nicely. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs because that's usually how I test out a new Italian restaurant. The sauce is okay, plenty of spaghetti and three meatballs. The meatballs are moist and soft. One of the meatballs was salty but the others were ok. Two at the table ordered the chicken francaise. The lemon flavor was very light and the cutlets were thick. I personally like thicker cutlets but I know they preferred thinner, crispier cuts. You know what you like so just know that. The fourth guest did not say too much about their chicken dinner with rice but it looked good to me and it was a big portion. I tried a small bite but I honestly can't remember if I liked it. I guess it didn't leave a great impression. Lastly desserts. I had the crème brûlée. It was a larger portion than I expected and delicious. The cheesecake was also good. I liked the denser texture in the cheesecake...no soft cheesecake for me! Unfortunately my husband's favorite, Tiramisu was a disappointment. He kept saying that the lady fingers tasted like slabs of cake. I personally don't like any Tiramisu flavors so I can't say. I would probably not come back here. It's ok but for the price I want something delicious. We came because the reviews were good, but I don't see it.

    Creamy Pesto tortellini

The food was amazing, I had the best tortellini with creamy pesto I have EVER had. Boyfriend loved his chicken parm, but he did steal a couple bites of my tortellini off my plate so I know he loved it too.

Our trusty Yelp app led us to this historic building and restaurant. I'm really glad we came to see some truly great architecture and learn some cool history of life before these United States. Even though the British tried to burn it down during the Revolutionary War, the family restored it to previous glory and it remained in their possession for over 200 more years! Now let's talk about the restaurant experience.... We were seated immediately and given a choice of indoor or covered outdoor seating. Laura came to get a drink order and offered some kids specials. She also put in our daughter's order right away so that she would be occupied and well fed. A chicken quesadilla with fries won her over and filled her up nicely. A bowl of New England clam chowder to start for me followed by a delicious Mushroom Omelette special. So fresh and tasty. The Mad Ukrainian ( formally MR or Mad Russian until the war broke out) had a delicious Reuben Sandwich with fries and a Garden Salad. After the salad and a half sandwich, she decided to save some room for dessert at another place nearby. Pair that up with a couple of local Beers and some soft drinks and coffee and we had an enjoyable lunch. Pricing is excellent compared to home prices and we ate with leftovers, drank, and got a historical glimpse back in time for less than $70. Home run in my book!

Unfortunately, the pictures+reviews on Yelp are disappointing enough that I almost talked us out of coming here. Hubs still wanted to try it. We were pleasantly surprised. The Bowery D has two flrs. You can sit downstairs- which is used for mostly for events- but we were told most people head upstairs and that's what we did. The main dining rm is carpeted, spacious and has a decent-sized bar. The first thing we noticed was the nice seafood smell in the air. So why come here? Raw oysters for one. Also because hubs has had Lobster Newburgh on his mind lately and the closest thing these folks offer is a mixed seafood Newburgh. He went for it. Result? He liked it. My Swai fish was tasty, though I was expecting something a bit flashier than sweet potato fries. My Jamboozle cocktail didn't have any oomph so I stuck to water after that. Service was great and the food was good. A nice surprise for a spot that doesn't totally shine on Yelp.

Amazing atmosphere, super welcoming, and the kind of place that instantly feels like a "why haven't I been here before?" spot. The service? 10/10. Everyone--from the owner/the sushi chef--was genuinely personable, attentive, and made us feel taken care of the entire night. The waiter Salmon, was amazing 10/10. Not trying to be funny not sure if he spells it that way but he was amazing!! And the food... WOW. The Toro? Unreal. Melt-in-your-mouth, life-questioning levels of good. Every single dish we ordered was a 10/10, but the Toro especially stood out--fresh, flavorful, and done perfectly.
