Came to Stella's after doing the Polar Express with my son and the larger family. Got parking right out front which was a nice surprise. We chose this because we thought they had a ton of holiday decor, however was mistaken; it's just an old school bar that serves Italian food. Service was very attentive and friendly. In general, everyone in there was chill and happy which is always a good sign. Ordered a few negronis which were all well made. We got the eggplant rollatini, fried calamari and house salad to start. They really don't skimp on the portions. Calamari included tentacles which I didn't expect from this kind of place; it was fresh and pretty much as good as it gets, especially upstate. Eggplant rollatini was well made and showcased their really good sauce. House salad is loaded up with cheese (parmigiana and gorgonzola) however I mean that in the best way; it eats like a Caesar, and it's a massive portion. Got the penne ala vodka with chicken cutlet for my main although I was tempted by the bolognese special. It was damned good. Vodka sauce was fantastic, and chicken cutlet was plentiful and on the well done side. I think I got 3 meals out of this and I'm not a small dude. Great meal all around and the perfect cap to our day. I don't make it to Kingston much however I would come here whenever nearby. Vibe is great and the food is better. Love the atmosphere. It has a classic Yankees motif. It's in uptown Kingston, but it's priced right anyway. However, I ordered them that we need and clam sauce which is my go to test for any Italian restaurant I got linguine with spaghetti. Really! I came with a decent salad. It was kind of oily. My son can enjoy his burger very much clam appetizer. It was good but not plentiful, and the bought overnight table was a different color from the other yellow lights. The bathrooms were in meh condition which always gives me an idea of what is happens in the background. The service was excellent, but the food not so much. read more

So here we are starving and in Kingston. The historic district with quaint colonial houses We tried one other place, who's name will not be mentioned. They couldn't accommodate us because of staffing issues! So around the corner we go We come in and are greeted by Barbara the owner. She has some Brooklyn roots and is cool Our waitress is Jess and we ask to see the wine menu. Barbara recommends the Hess Cabernet.L and it is delicious! For beginners we start with minestrone soup. Fabulous. The taste was amazing. For entrees we do a salad with steak. The steak is on the side no strips! Wow. Salad portion, not even Buggs Bunny could finish. I order the rigatoni with sausage peas in tomato cream sauce. Unbelievably good. Tasty sauce seasoned just right We finish off with espresso and tartuffo. Well you can stick a fork in us! Another small biz in Downtown Kingston, NY. I had the spaghetti and meatballs with a ginger ale. I got greens with crumbled cheese that was a nice start. The meatballs are huge. From the insane white bean dip they serve with the bread to the best salad and garlic bread.. the crab cake was divine, the penne vodka beyond and Nonas Apple crisp with the best crust ever. I mean this place BLOWS Cucina in Woodstock out of the water with it's authenticity and love in every dish. It's as close to a family Italian meal as you will ever get. My family and I love coming here. We were on our way up from NYC to go snowboarding and it happened that Kingston was just about the halfway point. We used yelp to search for restaurants and we settled on Stella's. The bar area can be a little noisy but the food is so good you forget all that. The house salad is so simple and yet so good, it might be the best thing on the menu. Entree wise I've become partial to the house combo which consists of eggplant parm, lasagna and a stuffed pepper. I have difficulty in trying not to eat the whole thing. If you happen to be in the area, check it out. read more

This place has always been great. My friend and I came here a few weeks ago and the food was great as always but the prices have one up so ridiculously, we will never be back. Most restaurants in the area have gone up but holy moly not this much. The new place across the street steals all the business now, or even Hoffman House. Hoffamans went up too but their portions did not change and you can eat a meal for two days. read more

I have visited Stella's three times for dinner and the food and service has been consistently good. Not 5 star, but a solid 3.5 to 4 star visit each time. They have a nice selection of beers on tap, including the seasonal Sam Adams and there are flat screen TV's in the bar. The restaurant side is somewhat small, but we always make a reservation in advance to avoid waiting. There are also a few tables in the bar side if the restaurant side is full. The bread/breadsticks basket with hummas is a nice change from the standard butter or oil/vinegar usually served at Italian restaurants. However, they will definitely give you those condiments if you ask. The salad looks deciptively plain, but it's actually a robust romaine salad with a garlicky dressing and huge pieces of bleu cheese. Tonight I went old school and ordered chicken parmigiano with a side of penne. The red sauce is fantastic- chunky tomato that is a little tart, not sweet. The chicken was pounded thin and fried to a perfect crispness and topped with cheese, but not an overpowering amount of cheese. Wow, this place is seriously overpriced for the rather mediocre "Italian" food they serve; it seems to mean that putting a lot of garlic everywhere makes it Italian. Simple fried calamari appetizer set you back $18, the special menu has no prices on it and the sever is not volunteering to mention them without you having to ask. Be aware: a mixed cheese/meat appetizer platter is $35 and the filet is $57! Really! Even pretty plain salad with shrimp or chicken puts you in the upper $20s, same for plain pasta dishes. Sides: $10.50 for vegetables and 12.50 for for example sausage??? I'd this were great cooking, fine, but....Rocky, dry mashed potatoes are their staple side dish. Slightly oily and over-salted salad. Similar, drinks and wine, nothing special. Adding tax and tips . Portions are good, and so are atmosphere and ambience. We were forced into a 3.5 star spot because of limited options on a COVID Sunday afternoon so TBH I had almost no expectations entering this place. It was a little run down on entry so I was even more pleasantly surprised by the food. The salad that accompanied our shared fettuccini Alfredo was so fresh and green with this light oil and vinegar dressing and the breading on our calamari was light and not super deep fried. I'm kind of a pasta snob having traveled Italy quite a bit and the Alfredo was great. I recommend this place on a Sunday with no options or any day with all the restaurants open. Really good. Old school Italian. I was here several years ago and re-visited this past week. I went with 2 others and had a blast. First - the bread basket is practically a meal itself. Warm Italian bread, sesame breadsticks and a fabulously dense roll all make for a carb-lovers par-tay. These are served with a white bean dip; a nice alternative to butter or olive oil. Appetizers? We shared the baked clams. Quite good - lots of garlic and not too greasy. Nice chunks of clam to keep you busy. Then they brought out a giant caesar salad for us all to share. I could have eaten that all day. The small chunks of cheese (guessing parmesan), tossed with the crisp, cold lettuce in a wonderful dressing made me very happy. For main courses: I had the salmon which was served in a lemon sauce (not too buttery - which was perfect) and black olives. Loved it. I asked for the salmon to be as rare as possible - they delivered. Perfectly cooked. The others had linguine with clam sauce and a sampler (which included lasagne, stuffed pepper and eggplant). Great reviews all around. The linguine had an insane amount of clams - a few really big ones in the shell...but the rest were chopped up throughout the rest of the dish. No room for dessert. This review would be more of a 3.5 star but there's no halvesies on Yelp. Sometimes... foodies like me need something a little more 'classic' and last night... that's exactly what I got at Stella's. Sure there are some great foodietastic eats options in uptown, but last night I was hankering for something a little more old school. I was jonezin for Veal Milanase and the chef made it special for me without hesitation. It was delicious, fresh tomato and arugula on top, mmm freakin awesome. The house salad was divine and I scarfed down the huge portion of penne ala vodka which they also offered me instead of regular marinara. The wine situation was a bummer, when I asked for wine list, and wanted to know what they had, there were the usual pinot grigio, sauvinon blanc etc... but man the one I got was pretty cheap and not tasty. There didn't seem to be much option for wine choice just white house, red house or buy a bottle. One other bummer was the service, or lack thereof. It took a very, very long time before someone acknowledged us. Once she did come, she was ok, but when I asked if something was 'good' or for recommendations the girl seemed to draw a blank. If you've read my other reviews, you know I get so annoyed when a server can't speak to the menu. RESTAURANT: FEED YOUR PEOPLE YOUR FOOD SO THEY CAN SAY SOMETHING ABOUT IT!! I'm also dumbfounded as to why we were given one bruschetta at the beginning of the meal instead of one for each of us. My kid and I shared it, which was sort of weird for what we spent, I wish they gave us both one. While there were nicer tables by the window we were relegated to a table behind signage, and the waitress seemed to not know we were there. The hostess came and took our order for drinks after noticing we were forgotten where we were seated... behind signage not at the nice window table where she sat 'regulars' she seemed to know over us. I figure if we go back a few more times, we won't be relegated to 2nd class seating. There are the classics like lasagna, ziti, chicken parm, etc, and some other specialty items that typically aren't done by other restaurants due to their complexity. They put their own spin on several typical meals, and the specials (although I did not have one) sounded on the exotic side of Italian food, but delicious. Expect lots of dishes that mix up interesting flavors and different uses of meats/vegetables that may surprise you. read more

So I wish we could give a 3.5 star review. We have been to Stella's a couple of times when we go home to visit family. We love the sauce and good food which normally would get a 4-5 star review. However this past weekend we visited and the food was just ok. It was VERY salty including the bruschetta. I love salt and this was way over seasoned for even my taste. I hope to increase the rating on our next visit so we can write this off as a fluke. read more

Excellent assortment of classic Italian food (lasagna, shrimp & chicken parmigiana, pasta) and new specials every visit. I've never had a meal that I didn't like, and I've been there over 20 times. Their steamed clams, fried calamari and fillet Mignon are real standouts, in my opinion. I'm a in a wheelchair and both their new or old sections are handicap accessible. The serving and bar crew are staffed by the owner's family members and friends, which I believe allows the staff to be spend a couple of minutes chatting with the dinner patrons, which I enjoy. read more

Portions are large. On the pricier side. Star off for the tomato wine sauce for the pork chop. We went here for dinner with a couple who are regulars over the years. They did a good job with service and the food was good quality. The fritto misto appetizer was very good - they know how to cook calamari and the dipping sauce was nice - aoli instead of red sauce. Chicken sorrentino (prosciutto, eggplant, mozz) was unusual and satisfying. The spinach ravioli in alfredo sauce were excellent. Meatballs are huge - the size of softballs. Wow! Can't believe it took so long to try this place out. It is exquisite! Gives Guido's off Broadway a run for their money. Brasciole was exceptional. Rare to find that done well, Stella's knocked it out of the park. We will absolutely be back. In our opinion, it's the best Italian in Kingston.
