I stumbled upon Savor while browsing restaurants in the Niagara Falls area, after reading the handful of reviews and checking out the menu I knew we had to give it a shot! I called on a Friday afternoon and made reservations for that evening. The first thing I will point out is that it is slightly difficult to locate, there is no sign indicating where the restaurant is because it is located in the Culinary Institute building (threw us for a loop!) We were seated immediately upon arrival which was appreciated since we were starving! Right off the bat I noticed the atmosphere was very open but intimate at the same time. The only criticism I took note of was that it could use a deep clean, I saw quite a few cobwebs from my table which in my opinion isn't the greatest decor accent. We started off with a bottle of wine and an order of the calamari. The calamari definitely had a good flavor to it but the breading crumbled off every time I tried to dip it in the accompanying sauce which we found kind of annoying so eventually we called quits on that part of the dish. For the main course we both decided to go with the Oscar Filet, a filet covered in fresh crab accompanied by asparagus. Normally I don't like ordering the same thing as Mike, I would rather just try a bite of whatever he gets and vice versa but apparently we were both in a steak mood! Our dinners were a bit of a wait which was unexpected based on how quickly our appetizer was delivered. After about 45 minutes the waitress brought our dinners out and I made two observations within moments of it being set down. First of all, beautiful presentation of the filet, the second observation, that's a small steak! Needless to say we were both a little disappointed because of how hungry we both were but I must say, it was a delicious cut of meat! We skipped a formal dessert order but were surprised when the waitress brought out two truffles as a sweet way to end our meal, a nice touch. Overall, a nice experience! I would recommend others try this place out - great location if you are looking to spend a night out in the falls, close proximity to the falls and to the casino. Pretty good for a highly touristic area. We were a group of six. They had plenty of room to accommodate small or large groups. Food was good. I can't tell the best food. But, quite satisfactory. Plus, reasonable price. Service was very good, somehow servers' frequent questions whether all is good felt excessive though. A bit disappointed. We went here because of previous reviews saying there were several vegetarian options, but there were few. A Brussels sprout small plate was the big winner, and a curry soup too. The house-made wine was just wonderful. But there were some missteps. My daughter had a gnocchi in Bolognese; she said the gnocchi were perfect but the sauce was salty and not enjoyable. A special kimchi-marinated pineapple was tasty, but served with sliced red cabbage in chunks too big to eat. An arugula pizza with mushrooms and bacon was tasty with lots of caramelized onions, but big greasy chunks of bacon did it no favors. Did not stay for dessert. Felt kind of bad about it too, since our server was finishing up the pastry arts program. Yes, they're students so we should cut them a break with somewhat reduced expectations. But these aren't reduced prices! I expect a little more attention to detail. read more

My boyfriend and I chose Savor to celebrate our one year anniversary, we got all dressed up and braved the cold to eat some fancy cuisine. Both of us were from the area so we had no problem finding Savor. Our coats were taken off at the entrance, the clerk was very nice and complimented my dress. We were led to our reserved table for two, it was by the window so I was a little cold but not enough to request a seat change. I loved the decor, very elegant and clean. I liked how I could look to my right and see the chefs bustling around. Drink orders were taken, I stuck with water and my boyfriend ordered beer. It took a little bit for the bread to be brought to us but when it did arrive it came with three variations of dipping oil. I had to hold myself back from eating too much to save room for the actual dinner. My Caesar salad was mixed greens with dressing, no toppings such as croutons, cucumbers, or even tomatoes but it was still good and crunchy. My boyfriend was less then impressed with his salad because he is a die hard crouton fan but he still ate it. Our waitress brought over a "gift from the chef" it was a potato pancake with horsey sauce with a tooth pick holding it together. My boyfriend loved it but I hate horsey sauce so I gave him mine. We both ordered the Meyer's Ranch Strip Steak. I was amazed at how nicely put together the meal looked. The steak was cooked perfectly to my liking, I enjoyed the cheesy grits, leafy asparagus, and bacon jam but avoided the radicchio slaw completely because I'm not a fan of mustard. Corn breaded croutons were placed along the outside of the food, pretty tasty! For dessert we ordered the sampler. It came with four bite sized desserts. I ate the Strawberry Mousse and Pecan Pie while my boyfriend ate the Carmel Cake and Chocolate Brownie. I was able to select what type of hot tea I wanted to drink so that was a nice touch. I did not pay the bill but I'm assuming it was around $100. I would gladly eat at Savor again. Maybe we will go every anniversary! read more

This place is so good , I was sick of the hideous fake Chinese food around that area, but I explored nearby and headed to the amazing place. The decor is comfortable and waitress was very nice. Then chef came to give me his self-introduction and suggestion on lunch. I also tried 2 kinds of NY local beer, one was dark , the other was light. What I definitely could not get at that point was how could the tourists have no idea that a good restaurant is just close at hand !!! The food itself was stunning, fries were nicely done, and the beef was exactly made like what I said, which was fabulous. This is a great dining option in Niagara Falls. I was here recently for a weekend trip with a friend, and we were really disappointed with the lack of non-chain dining options. This is a definite outlier in the city. It's located in the Culinary Institute, so most of the servers and chefs are students. Aside from the slow service, you'd never know it! The food was excellent, and the wine we drank was even from our server's vineyard. There is a nice area outside if you'd like to sit on the patio, but it was really windy when we were there. The street seems to be a bit of a wind tunnel as it wasn't windy elsewhere. read more

This was our final meal before leaving the Wondrous Falls, What a horrible way to leave. I ordered the only burger Savor had on their very limited menu. 52 years on this earth and consuming hundreds of burgers from many different places and Savor was the hands down worst burger to date. It was dressed with some kind of disgusting sauce with smoked bacon. I always believed that bacon makes anything taste like heaven, but when a bacon lover has to set it asside not to save it to enjoy later, but to throw it out because of how terrible it tasted on its own, you know the burger is doomed. Since I was staying at a hotel nearby, I decided to stop by here for dinner before a conference event. I decided to sit at the bar since I was by myself. I was surprised to see that the bar area is sort of like a prep area. Many of the waiters had no idea how to make the drink orders. I also overheard one say "just google it". Hearing all the banters as if I wasn't there was not very professional. Shouldn't there be an instructor or supervisor to ensure the students know what they are doing and to provide back up when needed? Minutes after I was seated, a group of people poured into the bar. The bartender was a sweet girl but clearly couldn't handle the surge of people demanding drinks to their specific taste. I almost felt bad for the bartender. I swear she must had poured 5 glasses of different wine for two ladies next to me and they weren't happy. Another lady also wasn't happy with the drink she got and when they were going to make her another one, the lady then says "hold on, let me try something". She then picks up the orange peel in her drink, twists a bit more, dumps it back on her drink, takes a sip, and declares "perfect"! I tried not to roll my eyes. So back to the food. Many of the menu items caught my attention. With the recommendation from the staff, I ordered the Pancetta Chicken with mashed purple potato and broccoli rabe. The broccoli rabe was a bit overcooked and oily. The chicken is rolled with asiago cheese and spinach and then wrapped with pancetta. It was pretty good. The best, for some odd reason, is mashed purple potato. It was just plain ol' mashed potato with probably nothing more than some salt, but somehow that was the best part of the dish. Overall, the dish was good but didn't wow me. If I am in the area again, I would try it again, but I would opt for a table rather than be at the bar. I would also try the pasta dishes instead since I was told that they make the pasta in-house. But for the first try, I think they need to tightened the service a little bit. read more

By far, one of the best if not the best restaurant on the American side of the fall. In short, 5 star quality with 3 star pricing. The reason for four star was their service, not terrible, but has room for improvement. Dishes that I had and highly recommend: 1. Seafood risotto: This was a special and it was amazing. The aborio rice was cooked to perfection with a cream sauce, topped with fresh seafood like lobster, scallop, shrimp and squid. 2. Steak pizza: I forgot the name on the menu, but this is a must try if you are a pizza person. I have to be honest, it's not as good as the ones that I had in Rome, Italy, but it's not fair to compare them since the basic ingredients were grown from different soil. The pizza is a happy medium between thin crest and deep dish, which is rare now days. 3. Sea bass: pan seared and served on top of sweet potato mesh. fresh, crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. The sauce felt light and didn't overpower the fish in anyway. The best part, the price was very reasonable for this kind of quality food. If it was in NYC, you are definitely looking at 50% more on the bill. On top of that, it's located right outside the park, which is 2 blocks away. This is the only restaurant that I would recommend in the immediate vicinity of the american fall. It's a raised table that seats 10, is separated from the rest of the dining room, has great views of the kitchen areas and is given attentive service. A great experience. The staff is friendly and very professional, the ambient is nice, the chairs are comfortable and the food is incredible! Me and my wife were visiting the falls and after an exciting morning we decided that we needed some good food. Our expectations were not very high for an area so touristic... but Savor surprised us! First, they receive you very nicely, which is great when you are very tired. The menu is sort but full with serendipity. We ordered the leek cream for share, the shrimp Po-Boy and the eggplant lasagna. Everything was perfectly cooked and very well presented. The portions were big enough to get you stuffed. But is not only about the food. I'm not an expert about wines... and when I asked for a white wine, our waitress Brittany informed me that it was a Chardonay and whether that was OK. I confessed that I didn't know a thing about the type of grapes and then she offered me a sample to taste, just to be sure that I would enjoy it. That's a gesture that I appreciate a lot. Finally, if you go for lunch, you definitely must try the cheesecake for dessert. It's the best I have ever eaten. And if you are like me and you need a strong coffe after lunch, this is also your place... espresso is great. read more

What a gem!!!! We were in town for a convention and I had read about Savor. On our way back from the falls, we walked past and made reservations for later that night. Wow! Wonderful service, the most delicious and beautiful food! I would love to eat here everyday. A smoked watermelon gazpacho, Braised short rib and a chocolate torte. Oversold as a five-star experience. Cocktails what you'd expect from a chain restaurant. Food so-so -- nothing special at all. Server was nice enough but had no knowledge of the beer on tap except what was written on the menu -- and weirdly only offered cocktails and wine to my wife and suggested beer for me (exactly wrong). Wouldn't complain if restaurant didn't bill itself as fancier than it is -- but it clearly does, so I'm holding it to that standard. Overall, you won't regret dining here -- as long as you don't get your hopes up. read more

What an absolute delight! My fiancee and I went there a few days ago and enjoyed a shrimp stuffed pepper followed by the scallops and linguine entre. The remarkable food was accompanied by a fabulous server, Chantal, who was fabulously personable and knowledgeable about the cuisine. Our experience was so extraordinary that we decided to revisit Savor to commemorate our Niagara trip and last night in NY. Needless to say, we requested to be seated in Chantal's section (I'm sure all the servers are great) and we weren't dissapointed. My fiance ordered the gnocchi while I had the hangar steak dish (cooked to perfection). Absolutely incredible. Thank you Chantal and the Savor staff. The drinks were okay. Tried out the autumn to ashes salad with the seared scallops as the main course. Both tasted delicious but weren't super filling. The S.O. ordered the butternut squash soup which was the highlight of the evening and made up for the dry burger. Wonderful restaurant in the Niagara Falls Culinary Academy. The entire operation is run by students and in fact, the restaurant is located in the former classroom. Extremely diverse menu, from cod to pork belly to magnificent burgers. The starters on the night we were there included caesar salad and complimentary milk bread with a selection of homemade butters -- my favorite was the blueberry-lemon. Sounds strange, but it was very good: fragrant and light. There is a choice of entrees, the pork belly was delicious, as was the cod. The burgers were phenomenal, prepared to order (medium-rare), and enjoyed by three generations in a beautiful setting. The dessert was likewise scrumptious. Most of us chose the chocolate-coffee mousse, but the 3-year old chose homemade (school-made?) vanilla ice-cream that came with a chocolate chip cookie. He was delighted, and kept offering tastes. All presentations, from the bread to the desserts, were brilliantly prepared and beautiful to look at. Had dinner here with a group of colleagues in town for a conference. The food was excellent. Everything was prepared perfectly. One of the desserts was kind of under-whelming, but that was the only exception. The service was very slow though. Perhaps that was because of our large group size, but we assumed it was because they are students and still learning. If yelp allowed I would give it 4 1/2 stars as a nod to the slow service, but the food was so good I had to give it 5. We came again recently and were very disappointed to see that Yelp has their hours listed incorrectly- they are closed on Sundays. read more

We visited Savor last night, excited as Yelp reviews were positive. The Positives: Wait staff was friendly The entrees were good, nicely plated. Negatives: The wine selection was awful, "We are out of that X 3". The staff did not differentiate a Red Zin (ordered) from a white Zin. Waited 35 min for wine. What a treat. If you visit Niagara Falls, I recommend a meal here. Located in the beautiful Niagara Falls Culinary Institute, this restaurant is a gem, just down Old Falls St. from the American Falls. The setting is upscale and the dress can be anything from casual to formal, and you'll feel at home. The dishes change all the time, so don't get your heart set on a dish that you see reviewed here! I visited in early/mid December and my dish was short ribs. Wonderfully cooked, awesome sauce with creamy polenta, some veggies and lardons (served all layered together in a single bowl). My only issue with the dish was that it was too salty. Don't get me wrong- I love bacon / lardons, and these were perfectly textured, offering a crispy crunch to an otherwise "soft" dish. But they were just too salty and overpowered the wonderful and subtle tastes of the meat and the sauce. My opinion is that either cutting back on the number of lardon (not recommended!) or the salt in them (please) would improve the dish. As you may have read, the restaurant does use students from the culinary institute, and also has regular staff. My understanding is that the chef runs everything behind the scenes and does the cooking, while students often help with the initial food preparation (sous-chef duties) and with the serving and staffing in the restaurant. Really bad experience with this restaurant. Waiter is so rude. They made mistake on our food. Our family including my toddler have been waiting for food for almost 35 minutes.. without any apology, the waiter asked us to leave????? This place was amazing! The food was delicious from presentation to taste. The staff was as friendly as can be. We recently had a destination wedding in Niagara Falls, and this restaurant became our go to spot. We had an impromptu rehearsal dinner there. We went there for a quick drink and a snack, but food was so good and the staff was so amazing that we told more of our family and friends to meet us there. The next day we went back to enjoy cocktails in between the ceremony and reception. People went the following night for dinner. It is that good. Stopped into Savor after checking out the Falls. Your options in the area are a couple chain restaurants or some questionable looking ones. Savor worked without going too far off the beaten path. Everyone I came in contact with started by introducing themselves and were super, super friendly. One of the bartenders (Chase?) overheard me taking to another person at the bar about how my cell phone battery was low and wanted to make sure I had enough left so I could take some more pictures. He went out of his way by asking a bunch of people if they had a charger and made sure I left with my phone charged. Aside from the super friendly customer service, the food was really good. I got the margarita pizza, and was big enough that it'd be a challenge to finish by yourself. I saw a couple other entrees that people were eating and they looked great, everyone seemed to be enjoying them. The craft cocktails were on point, too. Prices were about right for a finer dining restaurant and is kid friendly. If you're looking for a pretty good local option within walking distance of the Falls, this should definitely be the one to go with. read more

This place is a bit tricky to locate since it's not viewable from outside. You need to go inside the conference center to find it. Menu is good. Pizzas are tasty. Since it's run by the culinary institute, everyone seems to be in training, which is fine. No outdoor dining while we were there. Food was good but when I asked for mustard for my pork chop got what looked like gulden's. A little shocked they didn't have a decent mustard, I think I may knock off an extra star for that. Service was attentive, maybe overly so, until I actually wanted something (mustard, wine refill). Overall probably one of the better options Niagara falls has to offer but that's not exactly high praise. A decent place to eat near the Fall. We did not expect to have such a good place to eat. We ordered soft shell crab which is kind of rare to get in other restaurants. The spicy pizza my friend had also got a high compliment. My favorite dish is the Thai vegetarian noodle. It comes with mint leaves and cilantro. Mixed review here. My girlfriend got the burger and LOVED IT but I was much less pleased with my meal. I got the salmon (which was great) but it was on a bed of undercooked and OVER salted risotto. When I brought it to the waitress' attention she awkwardly offered to give me more free bread which came with the meal. She didn't take the dish off the bill. While she claimed they loved feedback (being that they're a culinary institute) she was very resistant to feedback both when we complained about the risotto and when we politely informed her that we'd ordered calamari, not the mussels that she brought to the table. All in all, the food was hit or miss and the service was really unprofessional (telling stories about guests she'd been annoyed with in the past). I would still consider savor a definite stop on your trip. Just don't expect great service and keep in mind that the chefs are still learning. read more

I had the Caesar salad and my husband the Arugula, both excellent. We shared the fig pizza, also very good. The cheesecake and cappuccino were amazing capstones! We ordered calamari - a favorite of our young adult daughters - and were impressed. Not chewy, perfectly flash fried. Three of our family of four had wood-fired pizzas. All were lovely! Youngest daughter chose salmon - it was well prepared. Dessert of crème brûlée shared by all four was fantastic- we should've ordered 2! If you find yourself in Niagara and want to avoid the regular chain fare, it's worth a visit.
