Some friends, my husband and I came here for dinner a couple weeks back when visiting the area, and found both hits and misses. The service was very good and it's a cute spot that I'd be willing to come back to. The best thing we had BY FAR were the beef croquettes. These were perfect, and I could have made a meal out of them. They had a tender birria like shredded meat inside with some cheese and probably some potato, I can't even remember but I do remember that everyone loved these. We also ordered asparagus, the Korean Fried Chicken, the shrimp with potatoes (all small plates) and one of my friends ordered the duck entree. My husband and friends had cocktails and mocktails; I didn't order one because they said they had nothing that was sweet. Incidental pet peeve: Saying "all our cocktails are balanced". I get it, you want to brag. But, some of us like things that are sweet, or as in the case of one of my friends, decidedly NOT sweet. If all of your cocktails are balanced the same way, it gives little useful info on what to order. I will respond to this by NOT ordering and sticking to tap water. I'd prefer it if you have a little something sweet and a little something not-sweet on the menu for those of us who don't actually want "perfectly balanced". That said, I did have a sip of the cocktails the others ordered. To my surprise, I liked the Broken Garden Tools. Though it wasn't particularly sweet it was also not super sour/tart and it was refreshing. I *could* have ordered that one, but I never would have known it from the description. I didn't like any of the others I tasted, but I can't remember what those were. Since I don't like whisky and I prefer sweet drinks, don't take this to mean that they don't have good drinks - the others enjoyed theirs, they just weren't to MY taste. Of the other dishes, I liked the cabbage that was on my friend's duck plate (I didn't try the duck). The asparagus was fine. The shrimp and potatoes was ok but not as good as I'd hoped for. And honestly, I didn't love the KFC. It didn't seem to be twice-fried and super crispy like KFC should be, and the sauce to me wasn't balanced between the sweet and spicy flavors I prefer. However, my husband liked it very well. The only other thing I'd caution is to double check ingredients. There was a dish ordered (I can't remember which now, some kind of bread maybe, but not listed as a bruschetta) that said it contained rosemary among other things but did not list basil. We saw no rosemary at all, but a lot of basil, which I can't eat. So I didn't have any. The others shared it. I would have been more disappointed had it been my selection. My friend noted that the server did not ask us about any food allergies, which, if your menu doesn't accurately list its contents, is problematic. Fortunately I know what basil looks like so no harm done. All in all, I would return, get lots of croquettes, order a Broken Garden Tools, and maybe try some other things we didn't get to. But I'd double check all the ingredients. read more

I came here for dinner and it was a lovely experience! The interior was chic, simple, and nicely decorated for Christmas. We made a reservation for a Sunday dinner but it wasn't necessary as the restaurant was pretty empty, Started off with the Korean chicken wings. Please get them as they won't disappoint you! They were fried to perfection and the sauce was really good and had a nice kick. The wings were not soggy. I also ordered the duck entree and it was flavorful and not too fatty. I really wanted to love this place, and there were definitely some highlights, but our visit ended up being a bit mixed. The server was very friendly, but our group of five waited quite a while for food, cocktails, and even to close out, which made the visit feel longer than expected. The burger was a hit for those who ordered it, but the seasonal beet ravioli just didn't land for the rest of us -- probably just not the right flavor combo for our group. Our table was also right by the front door, which kept swinging open and letting in cold air, so that definitely affected our comfort. That said, the cocktails were delicious and really creative. What a great place! Where to begin? I came with my mother and 2 young kids (6 and 4) a couple weeks ago for a birthday dinner and was not at all disappointed. This place was recommended to me by a close friend many years ago and FINALLY made it! The downstairs is very nicely done in a modern wine bar kind of fashion with lots of dark wood and vibe. The upstairs (where we sat) was completely different (but in a cool way). It was decorated almost like someone's smartly and simply decorated upstairs dining room in their house, with some earthy tones and nice lighting. Really interesting and very cool. As you might guess by looking at the menu, this isn't exactly a restaurant directed at kids. However, there were others there with their little ones and the waitress mentioned she has a regular who comes in with their little one. They do need to have a little bit of an open mind with food, but we lucked out with getting the shrimp (app, no hot sauce) for my 4yo daughter and the burger (entree, no onion jam) for my 6yo son. They both devoured their dishes with zero complaints! (I also stole some fries from the burger - they were fantastic!) The grown ups split an order of the Korean chicken wings, which were excellent with a decent amount of heat, and the roasted carrots, which were a little on the firmer side but had a nice, though subtle, flavor. For beverages, the grown-ups also partook in the "our circus days are over" (tequila, honey, apricot, mezcal, aperol, and lemon) and the "bizzy izzy" (bourbon, amontillado sherry, pineapple, and lemon). Wow, absolutely stellar on both counts! Absolutely on point with the cocktail game. Next, the adult entrees. My mom got the roast pork with masa cake, mole, and avocado espuma; I got the fettuccini with roasted squash, pancetta, walnuts, and sage. The latter was particularly seasonally appropriate and both were very fresh with top notch visual appeal. The down side (on both dishes) was that you basically had to destroy the whole thing and mix it together to get all the flavors together to make the dish really good. If you just tried taking bites as it was, they were both kind of bland. Pro tip - mix it all up and THEN eat. You're welcome. The only noteworthy pause from Michelin star status was the service. The hostess and the waitress were both SUPER friendly and were great with the kids. The runners (and maybe the bartender who brough up drinks) were... less enthused to be there. And not really just in a "doing my job" way but almost actively gave off an unpleasant vibe that was noticeable. Despite the mixed bag of service, we're absolutely coming back. Definitely a great place for a date night or also to drag the kids to in a pinch. BONUS POINTS: my wife has celiac and they seem to be very gluten friendly. The food was good, but not good enough to make up for how shockingly rude and unwelcoming the staff were. From the moment we sat down, the atmosphere felt cold. The restaurant wasn't busy, and we were a polite, low-maintenance group, yet the staff treated us like an inconvenience. Our server and the person bussing our table were both noticeably short and dismissive. Every interaction felt awkward, tense, and unnecessarily hostile. For a place where entrées start at $25 and it presents itself as an elevated dining experience, the lack of basic hospitality was appalling. We left feeling uncomfortable and disrespected. Good food doesn't matter when the people serving it make you feel unwelcome from the moment you arrive. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

I had high expectations of this place just from word of mouth. Got there around 6 pm for dinner on a Thursday and it was reasonably busy. We had a reservation so I was seated promptly. I got a glass of Riesling as I waited for my friend which was decent. With the food, we ordered the blackened green beans and the ricotta toast for mains and olive oil cake for dessert. The toast was ok, nothing impressive. The beans were surprisingly the best thing we got. Not sure what sauce they used, but it was definitely delicious. The olive oil cake was disappointing and didn't impress. What surprised me the most is quantity of food to cost ratio. The quality of 2 out of 3 dishes was just mediocre but the price point is pretty high for all of it. Service was good but not sure if I'll venture there again unless the prices go down. read more

Updating my review as I revisited Dapper Goose last summer. Sadly, I don't think I'll be returning. The service was very bare minimum and cold, and the food was blah. My biggest issue though, was how tiny the portions and how ridiculous the prices were. $12-15 for a glass of wine but really, they only pour HALF a glass. My fish entree was an overcooked tiny piece of fish with 2 spoonfuls of peas and cilantro at $37. I ate everything in under 3min, that's how tiny the portion was. Almost $100 later I left hungry, and that just has never happened to me in Buffalo. This is not some fancy restaurant nor is it located in a desirable neighborhood. The only reason I came back is because of the amazing and reasonably priced food I had 7 years ago when they first opened. Now that it no longer offers either, I don't see a reason to ever go back. read more

Great food and drinks! I've been here about a half dozen times over the past few years, and it's never disappointed. They have a small menu with ever present staples and other selections that have changed, although everything is always very well put together and flavorful. Even their burger is something specially crafted and different than others you'd get anywhere else. The cocktails are wonderful, my go-to is "broken garden tools". I had received a gift certificate to try this place out. This has been on my bucket list for years. We were seated upstairs which had a really great ambiance. It had a really soothing calm vibe. The waitress worked our food into where the shrimp and cheese plate came out the same time. This was to be sure we could use the bread to soak up the broth from the shrimp. Good thinking! The shrimp was excellent. Cooked to perfection in this paprika sauce that was outstanding. Cheese plate was decent nothing jumped out at me but that's just me. We then had the Korean fried chicken wings..,oh my they were amazing! Spicy but not too spicy, flavor was awesome and crispy with a great crunch. We then shared the ricotta gnocchi and the burger. To wash this down I tried the well known Broken Garden Tools. Very different take on a gin drink which included celery juice which was interesting and good. All in all a good experience however I am not sure In the future if I would come back very often the menu is on the smaller side and I am not sure of different options that would be available. read more

I have to update my review since it's been over 4 years since my last one and probably almost that long since I've been at The Dapper Goose! A lot of changes have been made since last time I was here. They added a large bar and took out the wall that separated the restaurant sides. Due to this, it does get VERY loud in here when it's busy. If I could give any recommendation, it would be to do away with the metal ceiling tiles or add some kind of velvet or soft material to the walls to absorb some of the sound. Also, the lighting was incredibly dim and we didn't love that but it seems most nice restaurants are going this route. We had made a reservation for 7:30 and didn't get seated until 7:50 after several tables sat empty for 15 minutes before the host came back downstairs to seat us. We were visibly annoyed since we had made a reservation and were told to wait at the bar despite there being 2 empty tables when we arrived (that they were clearly saving for a reservation of 4 that never showed). Thankfully one of the bartenders working noticed us getting annoyed and went to grab the staff who quickly got to work clearing and setting all of the empty tables. She was a true gem. Everyone was extremely apologetic over our wait and the host even took accountability for disappearing and apologized herself. I was extremely impressed at all of the accountability taken because you NEVER see that at a restaurant. We were quickly over our annoyance due to this. They even sent out an extra appetizer for us to really make up for the wait. That was such a nice gesture and is one of the main reasons I will continue to come back here and recommend it to other Yelp elites and friends. The staff here really cares. Now let's get to the good part - THE FOOD! We were slightly disappointed that they had changed the cheese board offerings since the last time we'd come several years ago because that was the highlight of our previous experience. They only had one set cheese board with accoutrements but it ended up being okay because we loved everything on the board! And I'm still thinking about the goat cheese!! I would get this every single time. Actually, I'd get everything we ordered again. Everything was SO delicious. The grilled stone fruit and the meatballs were the real highlights but truly everything was so delicious. I've been to this restaurant many, many times and I've never posted a review! I remember when they first opened how exciting it was to get a more upscale restaurant in the Black Rock area. My most recent visit (3/16/2024) was fantastic just as every other visit has been! We ordered the ricotta toast, Brussels sprouts and garlic shrimp. For dinner we all got our Dapper Goose favorite, the burger. Time and time again I browse the menu for the new additions and while everything sounds amazing the burger always calls my name the loudest! Wonderful place to enjoy a evening meal, or just to grab a few drinks. The inside dining area is spacious and you even have an option to be seated outside. For me, I feel their inside dining area is much better than outside. Service was phenomenal.. Our waters was always top off, and our tables was always cleared. I was quite pleased dining here and will be back again. Shrimp ceviche- Not your typical ceviche.. Normally you have ceviche with a citrus (lemon) type dressing, and the shrimp is chop up. Here the dressing is a sweet and the shrimps are whole. With that being said, the ceviche was really good. Blackened green beans- A little spicy and the flavor was good Ricotta toast- This was a simple appetizer with fresh clean tasting toppings Cheese plate- I have seen other cheese plates with more to them. For instance, some come with fruits and nuts. But this cheese board had 3 types of cheeses, jams and spreads. Doesn't seem like a lot, but it works. The quality of the selections are above and beyond common. Eggplant caponata- This also isn't your typical caponata, and you know what. I'm cool with that. By far, this was the best caponata that I ever had. Korean chicken- Crispy and the sauce was really good. Could've been better if the chicken wasn't tough. Fettuccine- I loved the corn and the crab sauce. But my only complaint was the noodles were not cook long enough. read more

We had dinner there last evening and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We arrived early for our reservation and we're offered a table but decided we'd like to go to the bar first where we both enjoyed a beer. The bartender was friendly and attentive. When another table opened we were seated at a cozy table near the rear of the dining room. My boyfriend ordered the burger & fries. He said the burger was delicious & cooked to perfection. I decided to order 2 small plates. I had the garlic shrimp and potatoes which was very tasty, though I'd have loved a few more shrimp. I also had the blackened green beans which were awesome. Finally had the opportunity to indulge in a meal at The Dapper Goose and I couldn't be happier. My boyfriend and I went here for dinner on a Saturday evening, a little unsure of what to expect since their menu changes frequently -- but we were both extremely happy. We started with just one small plate, cauliflower with a green goddess sauce. It was delicious. The cauliflower was crisp and paired perfectly with the sauce. Definitely started our dinner off right! My boyfriend chose a crab and corn pasta as his main. He reported that the overall flavor was completely unexpected, but he loved it and ate the whole plate. I chose the burger, and I absolutely loved it. The onion jam absolutely made it, and the patty had a nice sear to it that gave it a satisfying crunch. We ordered the bread pudding dessert to go -- absolutely no regrets there. It held up nicely and was so simple and sweet. I would love to come here again, and since their menu changes so regularly, I have good reason to. I'm just going to get to the point and say I have ZERO negative things to say about The Dapper Goose. Seriously The second you walk in, you're eyes are greeted with all the beautiful candlelight and thoughtfully placed natural greenery around the dining room and bar area. The chairs are surprisingly comfortable LOL. I have no idea why, but perhaps because the bottom part is nice and wide. The food was absolutely delicious!! Something as "simple" as green beans and cauliflower for small plates made my husband say "omg! These are the best vegetables I've ever had! I could be a vegetarian on this!" It was that good. Hubbie said the same thing about his burger! Said it was the best he's ever had. There's a notable place in our hometown that is known for their big burger but my husband said this outshined even that one!! My halibut was just perfect and the cilantro/mint salad it came with was so refreshing and perfect for summer! To top it off, the olive oil cake was the gift I didn't know I needed. We stopped here unexpectedly and were a little under dressed. We sat at the one high top on the bar side, so I wasn't too uncomfortable and the staff made us feel welcome. There is a long bar, that enough of the people seated at were ordering food, so that's the most casual area to be in. The other side had a very classy and romantic look to it. Perfect for a date! We started with two signature drinks and they were both very original. The Broken Garden Tools was refreshing and light, while the Under Electric Candlelight's was very strong and had a lot of the flavors of a Manhattan. For our appetizer, we enjoyed pork belly over a creamy polenta and braised bitter greens. Fantastic combination For dinner, my husband had the burger, it was topped with dill mayo, onion jam, and fromage fort cheese & was served with fries. Even the bun is made in house! He ordered it medium rare, since they grind their own meat and it was juicy and flavorful. The hand cut fries were nice, but could have used a homemade dipping sauce. I tried their signature Korean fried chicken. It was served with kimchi fried Rice, which they make their own kimchi, and spicy cucumbers. The chicken was a bone in chicken quarter. I loved the crunch and the sweet and hot sauce. I would describe the heat as somewhere between mild and medium. The chicken was fully cooked, but not fall off the bone cooked, so it made it difficult to get what little meat is on a thigh and drumstick off, without picking it up with your hands, so it was a little awkward. The rice was nicely prepared. There was still a little bite left to the rice, which I prefer to soggy rice. The spicy cucumbers were a real winner here. They had a great brine and you just kept wanting to eat them. We finished off our meal with the Pot de Creme chocolate cookie dessert. We had them add a side of their homemade rocky road ice cream. Both were delicious. Overall we had a good experience. We spent around $50/person, before tip, but including a mixed drink for each of us. I would probably choose this restaurant for a special occasion or a romantic date night. read more
