As a customer on the waitlist for almost three years (deposit paid back in 2015), I wanted to take some time to think about my experience working with Crystal so that others looking into placing a deposit with Savvy Bernadoodles & Bernouviers have as much information as possible before selecting a breeder. The reason that my experience has been so awful is because of her lack of transparency and communication in terms of what was promised as well as changes of policy along the way that changed the type of dog that my family had our hearts set on welcoming to our home.   Crystal advertised, promised and accepted deposits for F1 Mini-Bernadoodles which for those of you that are doing research on this wonderful breed, results from crossing a Miniature Poodle with a Bernese Mountain Dog.  F1 - is a first generation cross, in which the pup is 50 per cent Bernese Mountain Dog and 50 per cent Poodle. The F1 cross is considered the healthiest, as the parents have the least likelihood of contributing genes for common inheritable diseases. Well, it turns out that Crystal has actually been producing F1b and F2 Bernadoodles! Here are brief descriptions of these breeds and why many breeders (and customers) stay away from breeding and purchasing them from breeders: F2 - is a second-generation cross, in which an F1 Bernedoodle is crossed with another F1 Bernedoodle. The closer the generations come together the more consistency there will be in the lines, but the genetic problems of the purebreds are more likely to reappear, and hybrid vigor diminishes. Some F2 pups may have an improper coat--not the fleece softness we love in the 'doodles. F1b - is a backcross in which a Bernedoodle is bred with a poodle. The puppy is 25 per cent Bernese, and 75 per cent Poodle. Here, you only get 25% of the beautiful Bernese Mountain dog, so the puppies resemble mini poodles instead. If you do some research, this breed also has genetic problems and are not as healthy as F1's. Now, let's take a look at a timeline of multiple litters that were made available to our family, as a deposit holder (also being high on the waitlist) of an F1 Mini-Bernadoodle. 10/5/2015 email from Crystal: F1 mini was lost due to absorption (no F1's produced) 10/17/2016 email from Crystal: One F1 mini available, however much smaller than anticipated and no phantom or tri-color males available (which are the color combinations we had placed our deposit for) 04/28/2016 email from Crystal: Standard and F1b's available (no F1's produced) 7/10/2107 email from Crystal: tiny and micro mini's (No F1's produced) 9/21/2017 email from Crystal: F1b Mini's available (NO F1'sproduced) 10/4/2017 email from Crystal: F1b Mini's Available (NO F1's produced) 11/6/2017 email from Crystal: F2 Mini's available (No F1's produced) 11/16/2017 email from Crystal: Tiny Mini's (No F1's produced) So let's be clear about this...Crystal did not produce any F1 Mini litters since 2016, with only one produced in 2016 and none having markings that we placed our deposit for. What Crystal did was change her policy and stopped breeding F1's since 2016 WITHOUT informing her deposit holders (including myself). Crystal wrote me on 9/7/2018 saying that "first generation breedings will start up in 2019" which was incredibly irresponsible, inaccurate and deceptive as we had our hearts set on waiting almost 3 years for a beautiful F1 mini bernadoodle.   Looking at the amount of F1 mini litters produced, and Crystal's change of policy to discontinue producing F1's shortly after placing my deposit (which many would view as a deceptive "bait and switch" business practice), the only fair resolution would be for her to have refunded my deposit. Despite all of this, unfortunately, Crystal got greedy and kept the deposit for herself.   If you're looking for a responsible breeder who prides themselves on communicating with their customers in a fair, honest and transparent manner, I would look elsewhere. I wonder how many current and past customers are aware that they purchased F1b and F2 Mini-bernadoodles (with a higher risk of having issues) thinking that they were actually getting healthy F1's!! Excellent communication throughout and talk about personality and quality of breed. We decided that a standard Bernedoodle would be best for our growing family and they did not disappoint. Very well behaved from the get go and just so sweet and loving. The transaction and pick up day were smooth as it could be. We were lucky enough to find the Savvy folks right when we were seriously looking to add a companion to our family and there was a litter with available puppies. We've had dogs before, but they were nowhere near the kind, friendly, happy dog we got from them. She answered my questions promptly and I could tell she knew all about this breed and cares a lot about matching dogs well with families. We waited only a couple months. The process of choosing a pup and delivery was clear and went smoothly. Aside from basics like good health and temperament, the most important thing to us was getting a hypoallergenic coat, because we have a family member with allergies. Crystal was confident she could identify that trait in the puppies and pointed out the ones to pick from. Sure enough, our allergic family member has no reaction to Shasta (almost a year old). It as the perfect combination and I got to face-time with the pup that night and arranged to drive to Vegas from LA and back the following week to get her. She is now 2 years old and seriously the best addition to our family we could have made. Her personality is unmatched, she is so attentive and we're looking to train her to be a therapy dog to visit hospitals because she has a keen sense of comforting those in distress. Super irresponsible breeder. At the very least, expect your puppy to have giardia (stomach parasite that causes terrible diarrhea) and be poorly socialized. You may also get a completely different breed than what you paid for. 1) When we got our puppy he had 2 stomach parasites and had to be rushed to the vet ($500 on day 2, plus weeks of diarrhea, bleaching our house to try and get rid of the parasites, etc). Took a year for his stomach to get mostly back to normal. Crystal (the breeder) had just given him medicine to treat the symptoms, not actually get rid of the underlying problem. He still has to eat special food or he gets sick. 2) We were told he was half Bernedoodle and half Bouvier. Did a DNA test for fun and learned he's 87% Bouvier and 13% Australian Shepherd...literally no Bernese or poodle at all. We paid $2500 for him based on the understanding that we were getting a Bernedoodle/Bouvier mix. 3) Crystal claimed that all of her puppies are well socialized before going home, but our little guy was so terrified of people that it was clear he hadn't been around other people or socialized at all. We're still working with trainers after a year to try and deal with fear based aggression issues. We socialized him tons after we got him and took him to puppy socials and puppy kindergarten, but missing out on the early socialization has had a lasting effect. read more

I would have NEVER bought had I read any of the reviews. This woman is a monster. The minute you call her to tell her anything negative about the experience you are having with your brand new puppy who is now sick and costing you even more money than the $4000 that you just paid for her she becomes threatening and harasses you that you are a terrible human and do not know how to take care of dogs.....WAIT WHAT I just bought this dog from you and you now have sent me home with a VERY sick dog $1500 in vet bills. long story short we too have had a terrible experience. However we had to give our dog back to Crystal (again when someone shows you who they are the first time believe them). our other dog was not getting along with the NEW dog. we had to restrain the new dog several time and sent her to advanced dog training that cost us $1500. Even after 3 weeks the trainer said that our dog (Lola) was her name was going to need lots of training......we contacted crystal and she agreed to find her a new home to which was a nightmare!!! contract states 12 weeks well we adhered to all of it and she refuses to give us the money AND. SHE SOLD LOLA to someone else FOR ANOTHER $4600 she made $8600 on one dog!!!!!!!! if this isn't FRAUD puppy mill then I don't know what is. OH and pay CASH so she can avoid the IRS!!!!!! I have reported her to Humane society and to the IRS. Was planning on small claims court but this woman needs to be put OUT OF BUSINESS!!!! Based on my very recent experience, I would caution you to steer clear of this breeder. She was not honest or transparent about what our bernedoodle was going to look like as he matured. We bought one of her standard bernedoodle puppies for $4000 who is not furnished, in other words looks nothing like a bernedoodle and never will. We could have paid a fourth of the price for a bernese mountain dog puppy if that's what we wanted. The breeder was not forthcoming with us when we asked what he'd look like since we weren't familiar with this cross (bernedoodle X bernese mountain dog). We contacted her after we figured out that he was unfurnished (no beard) and communicated how upset we were and told her that we really wanted to purchase one of his siblings that was furnished (we were already attached to our pup so there was no way we were sending him back!). My husband left multiple voice mails and text messages and only received one brief response which included a promise to call to discuss our concerns of which never happened. All the time we were texting asking for information on his siblings, she was posting on her Facebook page that they were available and looking for homes!! I think she managed to sell one in the time frame we were inquiring about purchasing one. As much as I felt duped and cheated, I still felt that if we were going to get another puppy (I still wanted my bernedoodle), it would be great for our puppy if we got one of his siblings. Also I knew that those looked like bernedoodles. I was actually willing to give her more money!! She never returned any of our calls. I originally had a hard time believing the bad reviews I read online but I believe them now. The $4000 puppy that we paid for, we could have adopted from the pound for $50. We got a bernese mountain dog mix that is small for his breed, has really short legs, is unfurnished, looks nothing like a bernedoodle and will probably shed like crazy. We also had communication challenges with her basically from when we paid the deposit until his flight was booked. I had to chase her throughout the entire process, We've always rescued dogs in the past so this was our first purchase from a breeder. We thought we had done our due diligence and that she was reputable but unfortunately we were wrong. I was absolutely devastated when I figured out that the puppy I'd wanted so bad and paid a ton of money for (a premium since he was tri-color), was not going to be anything like what I was led to believe. I really don't recommend buying a puppy here. If a breeder is going to sell their designer dogs for $4000, they should be totally honest about what the dog is going to look like. As much as we love our dog (he has a great personality), we would have chosen a different puppy had we known he was not going to look anything like a bernedoodle. We're still incredibly disappointed. We picked him at 11 weeks old so I believe that any reputable breeder would have known by that point that he was going to be unfurnished. I truly believe that she knew but wanted to sell a very expensive dog to an unsuspecting buyer. I had never even heard of the term unfurnished so I unfortunately didn't know to ask. I thought all bernedoodles looked like bernedoodles (hairy teddy bear face)! I feel completely taken advantage of. I normally wouldn't write such a harsh review but I don't want anyone else to go through what we did. A dog is not something you simply trade in for a better model. It's a member of your family and a person should never be put in the position we were. There are too many good breeders out there for you to risk not getting what you paid for with Savvy Bernedoodles. Choose a breeder that is going to be honest with you and do everything they can to make sure you're fully informed on not just the personality of your puppy and it's coat (shedding/low shedding) but also you're expectations on what it's going to look like (furnished, color...will it fade or maintain its current markings, etc) to make sure you're going to be 100% happy with with your puppy. read more

I began my search for a new addition to our family by googling Bernese Mountain Dogs and happily, quite accidentally, stumbled upon the Savvy Bernedoodles website. This seemed like the perfect alternative to a pure breed dog as we were looking for a buddy with fewer medical issues and a longer life expectancy than the pure breeds tend to have.
