The Sawgrass Trail off Atlantic Blvd is where you go to view some of the most beautiful mesmerizing sunsets in the area. People bring their chairs and wait to view the sky and watch the sunset in silence. This Trail is quiet and also perfect for bikers and runners. People also bring their dogs for a nice walk. Trail is home to many species of birds and you can spot alligators and snakes if you get lucky. Wide open area where fishing is allowed. You can see people fishing from their boats as well as near the canal. I enjoy coming here whenever I want to enjoy nature and do my meditation walk. It provides me with a sense of calmness and tranquility. There is parking but try to get there early before Sunset time as it can get crowded and parking is limited. Everytime we pass by the Atlantic Blvd exit I see tons of people watching the sunset, so tonight we gave it a try. Absolutley chaos at the levee parking lot at 540pm with barely enough space to enter with large vehicles trying back out and leave with people aimlessly walking around. Finally found a parking space as we watched the car next to us get dinged by a frantic onlooker exiting their car in haste. The unobstructed orangy red sun just dropped below the horizon into the everglades. No place to sit on the gravel road so take your chair. Lots of bicycles riding up and down the path and fishing is permitted too. Pitch darkness by 615pm so bring a flashlight and watch for vicious alligators. read more

If you're looking for a peaceful, scenic walk with a beautiful sunset, this is the place for you. I arrived around 5 p.m., which gave me plenty of time to enjoy a relaxing walk before the sun went down. There's plenty of parking, which is always a plus! I brought my dog, and we both loved the trail. Some people brought chairs to relax and watch the sunset, others were fishing, and some were biking. It was so calming being surrounded by the marsh. If I were you, I would come here between November and April. The weather is so beautiful and there is just a really nice breeze. You can overlook the water and if you were into fishing, it's a great place for you to catch some fish. The parking is ample and it's peaceful and quiet. It's a great place to hike. This place has officially been added to my favorite places to run! The scenery, and the animals you get a glimpse of while there are lovely to encounter. You will find snakes, colorful grasshoppers, birds, and gators in the water. There are 3 paths you can choose from to walk/run. All 3 trails go on for miles, I could never take them all the way down. lol You will also find people fishing the waters or waiting to watch the sun set. It's a great place to visit day or night! I've been coming here multiple times a year for years. Whether to go for a run or view the sunset, I've always enjoyed coming out here. Parking can fill up quick for the sunsets so get there early or be prepared to park about a half a mile away and walk. If you're going for a walk, run, or bike ride, any of the directions give you the option to see gators. I've found that going west let's you see the most. Bust, the horseflies can be the worst going west. Definitely a beautiful spot to go for some away from the city views. read more

This is a truly beautiful place, and very near where I live. I was driving for over an hour to get to Shark Valley so I could ride my bicycle into the Everglades, not realizing that there was another route only two miles from home. Since then, I've saved a lot of wear and tear on my car, and a lot of driving time. The scenery is beautiful. And you will see alligators. They are all over the place, as well as some really beautiful birds. It's a great place to spend a few hours, but be forewarned; you will not find shady areas, so prepare to be out in the sun and there will be mosquitoes. They breed in water and that's all that's out here. If you plan ahead (mosquito repellent, bottled water and a hat), you will have a great time here. read more

As you can see from the pictures that have been uploaded, this is a spectacular spot to watch the sunset. Your view is completely unobstructed over the Everglades and the sky lights up in an explosion of color. It gets really crowded for the sunset on Friday and Saturday nights, even during the pandemic. I try and come out during weeknights to try and avoid the crowds. Bring bug spray or be ready to leave quickly after the sun goes down. Once night falls the mosquitoes and horse flies come out in mass. I more often enjoy the Everglades Conservation Levee Greenway as a good area to safely walk, jog, or bike ride for exercise. No cars are allowed on the levees and it is a 26-mile connected loop that connects the trailheads at Sawgrass Recreation Park, Markham Park, and the Atlantic entrance at Sawgrass Expressway. If you head north on the levee it will bring you all the way up to a different loop around Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge beginning at Lox Road. The trails are rocky, but I will accept that trade off for a safe place to exercise and a close up view of Florida's natural habitat. To me, it makes more sense than being one of these guys in spandex blocking the roadways in a pack of 30 bicyclists. ‍ Bring binoculars, water, and snacks and enjoy the escape. read more

Sawgrass Trailhead at Atlantic Boulevard - Hiking Near Me

In 2015 the trailhead was created to give walkers and bikers access to the trail that runs along the Everglades from Markham Park in Sunrise all the way to Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge in Palm Beach. This was the first trailhead planned along the Everglades Conservation Trail and is a result of a $700,000 construction project. A two lane road and parking lot were created to allow more people to have access to the trail. If you want to bike the trailhead you have three choices. You can head south toward Markham Park, north toward Parkland and the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, or west into the Everglades. The north south trail is said to be much smoother than the one that runs into the Everglades. These trail are used by the Water Management District and all are open to hikers and bicyclists. If you feel ambitious you can do a 27 mile loop. I have never biked the trail but it is on my wish list. A mountain bike is recommended. This is one of my favorite places in Broward County. I assist in a late afternoon children's photography class every other Wednesday at Church by the Glades which is very close to the trailhead so when I finish class I grab a coffee at the nearby Dunkin' Donuts and come over to photograph the sunset and wildlife. On any given night you will see people fishing, taking photographs, hiking, biking, walking their dogs, enjoying a picnic, and watching the sun set. The sunsets here are incredible. It is a priceless show like no other. Every time I come I find something different whether it is an alligator swimming along, a Great Blue Heron taking flight, or a tree full of parrots. There is something so relaxing and soul fulfilling about watching the sunset set on another day. It ends the day on a beautiful and positive note and I always enjoy my time here. read more

This location is an entrance to the trail that runs through the Everglades. It gets really busy around sunset because the views are spectacular. They just recently paved a nice road and parking lot for visitors. I've been here twice and I've seen quite a few alligators swimming in the canal. People hike, ride their bikes, fish, walk their dogs, and just enjoy nature out here. The trailhead is free and the views are spectacular. The trailhead is adjacent to the Sawgrass expressway in Coral Springs. The trail is 10 miles long so bring your walking shoes. I would also suggest bringing snacks, sunglasses, a hat, and water. There's all sorts of wildlife here such as snakes and birds. I highly recommend this if you love nature and hiking. The trail ends in Andytown. read more

Love going here with family viewing all the beautiful wildlife. The sunsets are spectacular . Fantastic for cyclists . My only problem is the horrible parking lot and lots and lots of cars parked on the entrance road sometimes on both sides. Huge pickups riding on the side walks to get out. Not safe . Great spot to spend the outdoors in. I hiked for four hours on the trail heading west and saw plenty of wildlife including alligators and turtles... and lots of bugs also. Next time I will bring a bike to really explore some more and catch the sunset which I heard is beautiful. read more
