Ribs vinegar based slaw, bbq beans and pulled pork sandwich with potato salad
    Annette B.

Stopped in for an early lunch after finding them on Yelp. Small bbq joint in a very busy neighborhood. Employees all very helpful. Everything was very good. I prefer the bbq sauce a little thicker but it was very tasty. Ended up eating the sandwich with a fork because the sauce made the bun too soggy and there was a huge pile of meat. Nice touch with some hamburger dills on the sandwich. Don't skip the potato salad - it was great!

Love how there was no long wait time. Atmosphere felt very welcoming and a lot of regulars come by here. I ordered the brisket sandwich and that had such a different taste! meat was very moist, no dryness, and very flavorful. I finished my sandwich rarely quickly. I would love to come here again! Highly recommend.

Great food was fabulous. The barbecue was tender and Hickory smoked just right. The potato was fantastic. It was not hard and not overcooked. A salad was not full of run and the dressing was homemade. Even the bread was good. What more could you ask for.? Except for $1 million which I didn't have that. Lol.

This is a neat little BBQ restaurant the food is great, one of the best hot dogs I have ate, and the banana pudding tastes homemade very delicious.

This place was a great pit stop on our way to Tennessee! We were craving Alabama BBQ and were not disappointed. We wanted to go to the original, since there were several Saw's in town. Called in to make sure and got very useful directions. Expect to drive around the neighborhood a bit to find parking. Didn't take us too long for someone to leave a space. Walking in, the place is welcoming and homey. People were all friendly. The young man who took our orders gave us recommendations as first timers and even told us what was particularly good from that specific day. He was right on all counts! We got a bit of everything and had left overs for days. Ribs were delicious. Pulled pork and chicken were awesome. The loaded tater was so good. I loved their chili dog.

I am a BBQ connoisseur, and the BBQ at Saw's is the best I've ever eaten. The pulled pork and brisket are outstanding. Delicious smoky flavor, and if you want to add sauce it's all good. For appetizer, you have to try the fried pork rinds with pimento cheese topped with pepper jelly. The pork rinds are freshly fried and the combination of the pimento and pepper jelly is so good your taste buds will slap you.

The BBQ here was really delicious and filling. I suggest getting a combo so you get a side and drink with your meal. The banana pudding not pictured was one of the best we've ever had

    Saw's Sampler

Atmosphere: Saw's BBQ is a hole-in-the-wall-esque restaurant with a decent amount of seating available inside. There are lots of fun decorations and memorabilia scattered on the walls, which you can admire while waiting for your food. Service: We ordered at the back counter, and our food came out very quickly. Food: We shared the Saw's Sampler, which came with pulled pork, chicken, 2 large ribs, and a choice of 2 sides -- we chose devilled eggs and potato salad. We saw that the devilled eggs were a polarizing option, with some reviews hyping it up and others disappointed. Our experience was somewhere in between: it was great but not a life-changing side dish. The potato salad was very creamy and almost reminiscent of egg salad if you're into that. The meat portions were quite generous. Our favorite was the ribs, which were tender and had a nice subtle, smoky flavor. The chicken and pulled pork were a bit on the dry side. While the sampler as a whole was good, there was a common predominant flavor that almost overpowered the experience - pickles. Everything had a bit of a vinegar "tanginess" to it, which may be good for some and a turnoff for others. Overall: Saw's BBQ was a great, filling lunch experience. The portions were quite good, just take note of the pickley-vinegary taste that the sauces, sides, and seasonings have!

Saw's has great barbecue, some of the best in Birmingham, hands down. Their white bbq sauce is pretty special. My family loves it. Today, I stopped in for the banana pudding. It's good and I'd definitely recommend it. Is this your southern grandmother's banana pudding- that's better than anyone else's?? No, Gram is still the reigning champion. Lol. HOWEVER, if you want a good back up - this is it!

Cooked to perfect and it was coming off the bone with my fork. The cornbread was phenomenal. I usually don't like cornbread because it can be dry but let me tell you, Rodney's was far from it. Had lunch today at Martin's BBQ Joint located at 3029 Pump House Road in Vestavia Hills, Alabama…read more It's actually in the Cahaba Heights area off of Highway 280. You order at the counter, which can be a little hectic for a first-timer. Luckily for me, I knew what I wanted and quickly found it on the big menu on the wall beside me. I later noticed that people were looking at handheld menus as you entered the restaurant. There was no one in front of me when I entered, so I didn't see those. The lady at the counter was very friendly and helpful in answering my questions. I ordered the pulled pork shoulder tray with two sides. If you have read my reviews, you know I only eat fries, so I doubled up the fries. You are given a number and can sit anywhere in their very big (for a BBQ joint) indoor dining area, or you can sit on a patio or outside. The walls are COVERED with pictures of old movie posters, country music stars, album covers, car tags, signs, and even a picture of the NWO (IYKYK). I didn't see the required Alabama BBQ joint picture of The Bear, Alabama football coach Paul Bryant, but with so many things on the wall, I'm sure it has to be there somewhere. There is a separate 'To-Go' spot for placing orders on the run. This also looked like a bar area as I saw advertising for alcohol. They also offer T-shirts and hats for sale if that is your thing. The menu consists of burgers, tacos, brisket, chicken, catfish, smoked chicken wings, BBQ nachos with just about any kind of side you can ask for, and pie for dessert. My order was brought to me in a timely manner. The BBQ is West Tennessee-style whole hog that Martin's cooks low and slow over hickory wood for up to 24 hours. The pulled pork is melt-in-your-mouth delicious, topped off with their special Jack's Creek BBQ sauce, on the table, which is a sweet vinegar and pepper-based sauce. I did see other sauces behind the counter, so I'm sure you just have to ask. The portions were just right for me. The fries are real cut potatoes that have been peeled. I doubled up, and that was enough to feed a family of four. Next time I will just ask for one side so as not to waste fries. The Jack's Creek sauce was great poured over my fries; it is water-based and not thick, and that is how I like my sauce. The sweet tea wasn't as sweet as some places, but I'm not complaining; it was good, and the day was hot. There seemed to be a lot of staff working. I guess it can be busy on Saturdays for lunch. I visited around 2:30 pm, and it was not crowded when I arrived but picked up as my time went on. The staff didn't have anything to say as several walked past me while doing random things. Not that it's a bad thing; I just always acknowledged customers with a "how ya doing?"--little things. The music was a mix of classic rock, soft 70s to hair metal, set at a decent volume. I don't mind being able to hear the radio, but maw maw and paw paw may complain that it was too loud. The parking lot may fill up with a big dinner crowd as there is a business next door that shares the parking lot. There is handicap parking available. Overall, Martin's offered a cool atmosphere for BBQ and a relaxing meal. They offer live music some nights (check their website), and it seems to be a great place for socializing in a casual setting. 5/5 -Kevin
