Cold Day Combo - (Seasonal) Red BOWL CHILI & GRILL CHEESE SANDWICH
    John S.

I have been wanting to try for a long time and finally made it on one of the first cold days of the fall season, so I decided I needed to get the Cold Day Combo with a Bowl of the seasonal Red Chili and Grilled Cheese. This was a perfect filling lunch for the cold day. Despite the parking lot being full, I was seated immediately. Many of the smaller tables are very close together. So close that you could easily reach over to sample your neighbors choices if what they have looks better than yours. I will have to come back soon to try their BBQ and Greek options or even breakfast.

Over the years we have heard a lot about breakfast at Demetri's BBQ, so I certainly had some expectations going in when mom suggested Sunday brunch there. Apparently Sunday brunch is more a self-serve style where you order at the register, get your own drinks, etc. Totally fine with that. Employees are friendly and food came quick. Food itself.....they were fine overall. We ordered 3 dishes - brisket breakfast, country fried steak, and an omelet. The best thing were the grits that came with two of the dishes. They were probably the best grits I have ever had. Buttery, but not overly so. Cooked perfectly. The country fried steak was the worst. Probably the worst I have ever had. It had a rubbery consistency and a lot of unbreakable tendons inside the meat. However, everything else was fine. Average. Not particularly good or bad.

One of our favorite barbecue spots but also one of the best breakfast spots in the birmingham area!

Just standing at the front of this place I picked up a good vibe classic and modern This smell of different things being cooked or smoked was very nice. Service was beyond good and sincere. Supposed to be the best place in the south for breakfast. I get that. Definitely a place to return to.

Disappointed After the Hype - One and Done I had been looking forward to trying Dimitri's BBQ in Homewood for quite some time, especially with how often it's packed and talked about. Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to the anticipation. The concept itself was confusing--Greek and BBQ??? We went for breakfast, and everything fell flat except the biscuit and bacon. The pancakes were bland and had the texture of mushy bread. The grits were severely undercooked and oddly topped with a watery cream that made them nearly inedible. The gravy? Straight out of a packet or can. The only bright spot was the service; it was decent despite the crowd and long line outside. But good service can't make up for food that simply misses the mark. Sadly, this visit was a one and done for us.

Ribeye FRIDAY'S ONLY - PRIME RIB SANDWICH on Ciabatta Bread MASHED POTATOES WITH GRAVY Mac & Cheese
    Daniel C.

Went to Demetri's for lunch. The ribeye on ciabatta bread is really good and worth going for if you love ribeye. Their Mac and cheese is super interesting in presentation however also very flavorful. Ambiance is solid but nothing spectacular. The smell of ribs is pretty nice and makes it feel almost like a cookout. Staff is nice and attentive and the service is quick. Price is pretty good considering what foods are offered. Will definitely check out other food options next time I visit.

First time stopping in here. Greeted quickly and fast service. Food was great and reasonably priced. For a hustling morning crowd I was impressed.

Do yourself a favor and get the grilled biscuit. You won't regret it! Grilled biscuit + Gouda + egg and a side of hash browns for an immaculate meal! Cozy mom and pop style. Can get busy but moves quick!

    BBQ Chicken Salad

This was my second time eating here and it felt like home. I ordered the wings and ribs plate with side salad and mash tato. The wings came with a sauce that I can only describe as ranch and thousand island mixed together very tangy and good. The ribs were disappointingly very very dry to the point of inedible. The side salad was refreshing and delicious. Their ranch is now on my list of good ranches in Birmingham A++. One of my daughters got the pigsickle (rib) and my other daughter got a pretty good size tasty cheeseburger off the kids menu. My husband ordered the pulled chicken salad. The only thing he found odd was it didn't come with cheese of all things. All in all, we will be back for the wings as they were comparable to Troups and Slice...fall off the bone tender and awesome smoky flavor and the customer service is as 10/10. We can't wait to go back and try breakfast which is highly recommended I've heard. See ya soon Demetri's !

We were in town visiting our son and picked this place blindly on our way out of town because the parking lot was full. We sat at the bar, service was good and quick. There were a lot of locals there which says a lot. Fun, busy vibe. My husband ordered the Fiesta Omelet - said it was very good! I ordered the Huevos Rancheros which was meh...I ordered avocado on the side because it didn't come with it. Overkill on the red sauce and not enough black beans and cheese.

There was a bit of a wait before my order was taken, but honestly, it worked out in my favor because it gave me plenty of time to look over the menu. There were so many tempting options that it was honestly hard to decide! I ultimately chose three items and enjoyed a few bites of each. Ham & Fontina Scone: This was my first time trying a scone, and I was pleasantly surprised. The texture reminded me of a dry biscuit, but the ham added a delicious savory flavor that I really enjoyed. Frittata Plate: The frittata was SO good! It wasn't too dry, and all of the flavors worked really well together. It was served with polenta, which reminded me of really fine grits, along with fruit. After trying it, I realized that one entrée would definitely be enough for me to enjoy on its own. Breakfast 'ZA: This was essentially a breakfast pizza topped with a fried egg, and the egg was such a nice touch. The 'ZA itself was really good, although I think adding something similar to a gravy or sauce would make it a little less dry. Even without it, though, the fried egg really took it to another level. Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso: I decided to try the Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso, which was the barista's pick. This was my first time having a shaken espresso, and I'm so glad I gave it a try! It was refreshing and perfect for a hot day. The inside of Trattoria ZaZa is nice, although it is somewhat small, so I opted to sit outside. It was a very warm day, but the awning provided plenty of shade and made the outdoor seating comfortable. I also appreciated that, even though the restaurant doesn't have traditional table service, someone periodically checked on me to make sure I didn't need anything else. Overall, I had a great brunch experience at Trattoria ZaZa. There were plenty of menu options, the food was flavorful, and I really enjoyed trying a few things that were new to me. I'd definitely be open to coming back and trying more of the menu!

But I'm sorry the food? (In my case shrimp and grits) was NOT GOOD. And don't get me wrong, it wasn't a horrible flavor, but the flavors it did have were terrible. First the grits are not smooth at all. Like they aren't super course but they definitely could have been cooked down more. And they had little seasoning. And that's being generous. Then the "creole" sauce on top? Can we ask the audience what they consider creole? Because that was just pure tomato sauce. Like straight out a can, had to be. No way someone cooked that sauce from scratch or even with creole seasonings or typical additives I'm sorry I just refuse to believe it. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST... 5 shrimp??? You can't be serious. I could understand 5 shrimp if they're the huge jumbo ones but these are smedium at best. Like I feel BAMBOOZLED because no way I paid 24$ for 5 shrimp and maybe 1.5 cups of grits. But imma be honest I'm not surprised the food wasn't that good. Any place that puts on the bottom "we can't refund for food you don't like" that should tell you everything you need to know.
