I've been here several times and finally got around to review it. Food is amazing! The guy and the woman who sing and play instruments on the weekend are super talented. They need to really appreciate the fact that such talent works with them. There is no hostess which bothers me as soon as you walk in the cooks look at you and you have to wait. Other than.. that the restaurant is decorated very nice and the waitresses and busboy are amazing. They make you feel at home. The food is legit. Overall best I've had in south Florida. read more

Today's craving was papa a la huancaina. As being National best friends day I decided to give this restaurant a try since it's my best friend's favorite. The restaurant it self it really nice, updates have been done in the past years and the outside doesn't not match the outside, you would assume it's a small location but it ends up being a huge property. Staff was okay , we did had a little bit of a wait in our visit due to us wanting a booth, had to ask several times for their complementary fried corn (canchas). But at the end we four double the serving. Now let me tell you guys about their food, my friend ordered ceviche, my background with Peruvian ceviche is not great and I don't usually enjoy it , decided to give this one a try and I was surprised of how tasty it was. Please do remind them if you are not a person that likes spicy dishes to maybe toned it down a notch. She asked for mild and it was more on the really spicy side. On the other hand I asked for their linguini a la diabla with skirt steak, the only downside was the fact that they didn't had linguini so I had to replace it with spaghetti, the sauce was delicious and the steak was out of this world. If you decide to give them a try you will not be disappointed, they do showcase one of the best examples of Peruvian food at this little gem. We ask for cuss with octopus and the egg has the shell !!!! Terrible They put anise to all the food even the corn in the ceviche!!!!! The chicha with purple corn doesn't have pineapple at all !!!!! The green spaghetti too much olive oil and without the spinach flavor at all looks green but without flavor taste like Parmesan cheese too much!!!! The seafood noodles looks like a soup!!!! Extremely rude, I never posted a review about this place, they have pretty decent food, but the service is terrible. I used to go a lot of times when they first opened. Around my 4th or 5th trip with my ex-gf, I spent around $100 since I ordered some to-go stuff while dining in. About 30 minutes into my dining experience, they wanted to move me to the back of the restaurant near the bathroom to accommodate a friend/family they knew. I always tipped really well there, but over time I got really bad service. The last draw was that final trip when they tried to seat me in the back and I refused. They started treating me real nasty, that's when I decided enough was enough and never went back. They recently closed their location next to Bru's Room and moved a bit more east towards University. Even if they changed owners I wouldn't dine there. I know of a bunch of other Peruvian restaurants equally priced and with better service. Don't get me wrong, the portions and food are great, but never have I felt such animosity towards a fellow country men. I never treated them wrongly or made bad comments towards the wait staff. I never made requests that were out of the ordinary. Again I just truly dislike this place for the way they have treated me over the years. read more

We have had dinner here before and always enjoyed the food, service and on occasion, live music. So much so we have recommended to friends and family. However our most recent visit, motivated me to share our experience. We arrived hungry but not sure what to order. Our waitress, Carol, came over and after getting our drink order (yummy Sangria), inquired as to our order, and if we wanted to start with an "aperetivo". Individual appetizer or something to share? We asked for her suggestion and were so pleased with her response. I am not a seafood lover, but she customized a sample plate of multiple appetizers for us, that was so plentiful and filling, it was our meal. It was scrumptious!!! I only found out about Saxsay from my friend Susan C. (hi Susan!) who lives nearby. I happened to be in the area and wanted to meet up with Susan and her husband for dinner and they suggested this spot. I only have one knock against it so I'll just get it out of the way early. There was a guy playing live music when we stopped in for dinner. While he was reasonable on the recorder, his keyboard playing left much to be desired. It was just kind of weird to be listening to him noodling around on the keys over an electronic drum beat that sounded like it had just arrived from 1986. We opted to sit in a small private room off the main dining area in hopes that it would minimize our listening experience. But in terms of eating, I had no complaints. I am not very familiar with Peruvian cuisine so I opted for something that seemed pretty standard. While I can't remember the Spanish name of the dish, it was basically thinly sliced steak, onions, and tomatoes served with rice. It was delicious and I cleaned my plate. Everyone else at the table loved theirs too. Our waiter was very good, too. He was patient and didn't mind explaining the nuances of the different dishes and was happy to make suggestions. read more

I've only been to Saxsay twice, but I've already decided that it's going to be my go to Peruvian place. Located in a small plaza next to an adjacent State Farm plaza, the exterior isn't much to look at. The interior doesn't necessarily look "Peruvian", but more like a modern decor as another reviewer stated (think white/badge walls and brown tables). Upon arrival I was greeted warmly by a host and seated at a booth. The dining area had quite a few booths and tables filled, and I saw parties coming into the private rooms they have too. For my beverage, I chose a glass of chicha morada ($2.99), a sweet purple corn drink. I'm not sure if every Peruvian restaurant I've been to uses a standard supplier or just makes it all to the same specifications, but it tastes a lot like grape juice. For my entree I chose the Tricolor Tiradito ($13.99) which is raw whitefish marinated in lime juice sauce, yellow pepper sauce, and red pepper sauce. I was asked if I wanted it mild, medium, or hot and stuck with medium. Some pieces of fish were slightly tougher than the others but I overlooked it. The red pepper sauce had more heat than the milder yellow one which had a slight garlicky cream taste. The lime sauce didn't taste as tart as the sauce that's used for ceviche which was refreshing for a change. For dessert I chose the crocante de lucuma, a cheesecake made of the tropical fruit garnished with chocolate shavings. I don't know how to describe the taste other than it sort of tastes like a not pungent durian? It's good though. read more

This used to be my favorite peruvian restaurant. The food was okay... however my jalea tasted funky. The service was super slowwwwwww. I could understand if they were packed but there was probably at most 3 tables with people. I asked for the lunch menu, and our server knew we were ordering off the lunch menu. We wanted the lemonade and ice tea-- which is included in the lunch menu. We get the bill and they charge us for the lemonade and tea. Which was an extra $13. She tells us that the "fresh" lemonade isn't included. All I wanted was whatever came with it. She never told us there was any difference. Then for the teas-- because we wanted unsweetened tea instead of sweetened tea, they wanted to charge us for it. Not worth the hassle anymore, won't be returning. read more

I had the shrimp causa and the chupe de camarones. Both were delicious! The chupe was slightly bland in flavor but either way, the shrimp was fresh and the chunks of white farmer's cheese was an interesting touch that I haven't had at other Peruvian restaurants. The interior is so beautiful here and they have separated rooms for parties or conferences which I'll have to take advantage of sometime in the future! Though it wasn't the most amazing Peruvian food that I've had in coral springs, I'd definitely recommend it if you're in the area! We decided to try the neighborhood food and found this restaurant. We assumed because it said "deli" and most reviews indicated that is was not expensive, we thought we would try it. Good food but slow and expensive! A beer was $5 and cheesecake $6.35! The dishes were large in portion but basically "been there done that Peruvian." For the time of day, and the tucked away "deli" ,we surely didnt anticipate a bill that was over $68.00 (without tip)!!A faster more enthusiastic staff would help too. our waitress was inattentive and assumed we didnt want dessert almost throwing the check at us..... The place was nice but needs to have lighter and less expensive fare if they are going to advertise to lunch crowds. They would get more business.. read more

The grilled octopus was the best thing we have ever eaten and the service was superb. Angelina and Roverto were friendly and extremely helpful in navigating the menu. Went there last week on a week night, not very crowded, order the churrasco steak, as did my wife. The service was friendly and excellent, waiter visited the table every 10 minutes to fill our water glasses and to see if anything else was needed. The steak was excellent, as always, the sides were all fresh, warm and tasty, the black beans are a meal unto themself. I drove 20 minutes to dine, I passed 100+ restaurants along University Drive in Coral Springs to go to Saxsay, it is one of my favorites, and I have always had great satisfaction, as have all the other diners in my party. I rarely take time to write a good comment, human nature dictates we spend more effort on bad comment writing, but Saxsay is first-tier, and the value, quality and excellent service makes them #1 on my list!! read more

It's a very casual dining atmosphere but the food that they serve here is like fine dining. The food is rich and flavorful with great presentation and they have a heavy hand on sauces. Prices can range around $15-20 for entrees. They use high quality meats and seafood. The service is quick and very polite. This is one of the best Peruvian restaurants in the area. read more

This place is a hidden gem. You wouldn't expect to find such authentic and good Peruvian food in a strip mall in an out of the way suburb. Foods are very flavorful and rich. The paella had a smoky taste with very good seafood and some creamy tomato sauce for thickness. The seafood stew was a nice peppery broth with perfectly cooked seafood. Saxsay is a phenomenal Peruvian restaurant with a lot of traditional flavors from the home country. The restaurant itself is casual and quaint, the service is fantastic as well. My wife and I were in the mood to try something new so we went to The Saxay Cafe in Tamarac. Having never tried Peruvian food before, we asked our waitress for recommendations and she was happy to help. We shared a plate of seafood ceviche which was out of this world. I had never had it before and really enjoyed the tangy flavor of the sauce that was a perfect compliment to the octopus, squid, and shrimp.
