Stopped in for a meal as a pre-celebration for my daughter's upcoming 10th birthday! Most of the places we usually go to were completely packed with wait times over 45min. We did a quick Yelp search and stumbled upon Basil's. We called ahead because online it was suggested to make reservations - I called and they said they were accepting walk ins and they weren't too busy. Upon arrival a few minutes later, we were seated promptly and our drink orders placed. It was a peaceful and quiet venue. I'm not sure what it's like when busier but there were quite a few tables seated but it wasn't too loud and the music was pleasant and relaxing. We took some time to review the menu and settled on frittes, calamari and Brussels sprouts for appetizers. Unfortunately, they were out of calamari. I mistakenly read the frittes as being a mix of potato, sweet potato and eggplant. The server clarified that it's one choice but they could make it with a mix of them all upon request. Because I had the kids with me, we just went with potato. The garlic aioli dip and the parmesan garnish on the fries was absolutely delicious! Have to say I wasn't a huge fan of the Brussels - I didn't find them to be crispy enough and that could've been due to the excess amount of the maple Dijon glaze (pictured). The glaze was delicious but overpowering for the dish. My kids ordered the kids burger and chips and the buttered noodles. They all enjoyed it and the price was reasonable at around $8 per kids meal. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs and the strawberry and arugula salad. Loved the salad and enjoyed the spaghetti and meatballs as well. I would say that the fennel was a little strong in the meatballs but aside from that I loved the dish and couldn't finish it due to the large portion. It was $21 but a sizable amount given it was lunch. We also ordered the pesto chicken melt (forgot to take a pic) but it was probably our favorite item out of everything we tried. The staff was incredibly attentive and friendly! The food was very tasty and came out relatively quick. Overall, we're happy to have had the opportunity to try out a new place that we can add to our rotation when we visiting Boone.

WHAT AN AMAZING PLACE! Amazing food, terrific service, did I already say Amazing food?? Lily was our server and she was amazing. She gave great suggestions and was super kind and friendly. I will be coming back and will be telling everyone to try this place out!

Just a walk in but wow $4.00 for a Diet Coke, sitting on the patio getting second hand smoke, not even appetizing. I paid with a $5 and waitress said, "I'll go get yer dollar" Looks like an otherwise nice restaurant for sandwiches if you can get over the $4.00 small plastic cup of soda. No issues here with quality of food, just the beverage!

We ordered the roast beef on a hoagie roll that was supposed to have a horseradish sauce. There was no indication of it, which was disappointing. But even more so was the "au jus", it was more like canned beef consommé! I asked for ketchup instead. This was a really roast beef sub, but to advertise it as a roast beef with horseradish and au jus isn't accurate. Our server was efficient and friendly. Our eggplant fries were limp and greasy. Either the fryer wasn't hot enough, or the eggplant fires were frozen and too wet to crisp. Either way, I wouldn't serve those in good conscience. I love the vibe here, but today's food was seriously lacking.

We just had an AMAZING meal and the BEST service! This is our first time in Boone and Basil's has elevated our weekend already! We enjoyed steamed mussels, grilled salmon and risotto, sun-dried tomato and spinach pasta du jour, and chocolate torte. Every bite was exquisite and Lily provided exemplary service! We will be back for sure!!

I want to love Basil's. I've been here 5-6 times and it is never consistent. I enjoy the full walls of windows, Blue Ridge Mountains photos, and open concept, but service is not as attentive as could be. My experience today was perhaps the worst. Our food came out quickly, but the Brussels sprouts could've cooked more, noodles were extremely overcooked, pasta rossa sauce flavor is never the same, and the meatballs were dense. Last time I had this exact same meal, it was fantastic. The waitress was very friendly and checked on us immediately after entrees were brought out, but not again until we were ready for the check. My friend's water was empty and we were ready to go. There were only 3 tables seated at the time. First time I didn't take leftovers home. If the food was more consistent, I would happily spend money here. But currently, not worth the high prices. They also took my favorite sandwich, the French Dip, off of the menu, which doesn't relate to this review but does disappoint me.

We go to Basil's regularly usually on wine special nights when they have free wine sampling and 30% off wine bottles. They have a variety of beers, wines and craft cocktails. I love their salads; my favorites are the kale salad and goat cheese & pancetta salad. I usually add a salmon filet! Their pastas are hand made and delicious as well. They do often run out of certain ingredients so there have been several times that some dishes were unavailable.

Located just off king St with parking around I walked here when I discovered it online while trying to find something new to me. It looks beautiful from the outside, lots of greenery , it's a old house renovated into a restaurant. I came at the tail end of lunch so it wasn't busy, but they do take reservations. I sat on the covered outdoor patio and loved my table. They have a nice cocktail, wine and beer menu. A lunch menu with apps, salads, pasta and focaccia paninis. I got a empress G&T, which was a good classic. Drew my server was so sweet and very handsome! I ordered a focaccia panini , with prosciutto, mozzarella and tomatoes and mushrooms and basil. When he bought it out he said they had just made the bread. They also make their own pasta. Sandwich was delicious and full of yummy ingredients and the bread was very fresh. Also served with a nice green salad. Then I left room for a little dessert. They have a to die for salted Carmel gelato Affogato. You pick your gelato, which Drew said they import from Italy. This was one of the best I've ever had, they give you espresso separate in its own little vessel. Great end to a fabulous lunch. I would come back here anytime I'm in Boone. Would love to try a pasta dish. Great spot and something different from the college crowd places.

However, after more than a hour's wait for our meals with two "your food should be out shortly; our kitchen is really backed up" excuses from our server, our meals arrived, just not at the same time. When my sister's did arrive it was cold. Not, slightly warm. Cold. They offered to replace it but couldn't promise that it wouldn't be another long wait. I asked to speak to a manager and surprisingly it was the very busy bartender who came to our table. He too offered the excuse of how busy they were. It's hard to have a manager manage what's going on in the restaurant and, more importantly, in the kitchen, when he is non-stop preparing drinks behind the bar! We decided to cut our loses, call for the check, and leave. I politely expressed our displeasure to the server, also addressing a charge for an "add-on" (charged more than quoted, of course.) A flat "on behalf of the restaurant, I apologize" and "we were very busy" excuse was offered. Curiously, the warm, welcoming "I'll be taking care of you" attitude of 90 minutes before was gone. We will not return, not that it will matter to them. After all, "they're very busy."

We were greeted promptly and were seated. Great menu selection for primarily Italian food. Something for everyone. We opted for two appetizers: the garlic knots and Caesar fries. The knots were 10/10. Slathered in butter and garlic with enough pooled butter to soak up with your knots. I was kiddish on the fries. Seemed like a strange marriage but they were really good. Loaded with parm cheese and bacon as well. 9/10 We decided to order an 18" Buffalo chicken pizza to things off. The pizza was really good but there was too much Buffalo sauce for our liking which turned the pizza into a knife and fork event. It was impossible to pick up and eat. There was plenty of chicken on it and lots of cheese as well. It came with optional bleu cheese crumbles which I highly recommend. My advise to you is to order less buffalo sauce. There was so much on ours it made it sloppy and soggy. Flavor was good. Execution needs improvement. Crust was excellent. Hand tossed and artisan. 8/10 for the excess sauce. Oh, also, the plates you get for the pizza are comically small. Our slices hung off 2 inches front and back. Made the knife and fork thing more difficult. If you get a larger pizza, request larger plates. You'll thank me later. We split a tiramisu for dessert and it was great. 10/10, great coffee flavor, creamy and not too sweet. Highly recommend. Both appetizer, 18" pizza and a tiramisu came to $55. We all had water. This place isn't cheap but the food is good and the so is the service and atmosphere. Make it a must when you get into Boone next time.

Everything was bad from the service (or lack thereof) to the food. We waited 15 minutes for someone to take our drink order. Then, we saw her tell our order to the bartender and we never saw her again. 20 minutes later, the bartender brings our drinks and asks if our order had been taken. After hearing it had not, he tried to take our order, however, as the bartender, he could not answer our questions about the menu. After taking our order, It was another 20 minutes before the salads arrived. We finished our salads and sat another 35 minutes before our food arrived. The salad bowls were still sitting on the table. My chicken piccata was inedible. The chicken was literally covered in so much sauce, it splashed all over the table when the food runner sat it down. The sauce was so overpowered with lemon that it was sour. The chicken was like rubber and I thought I would choke trying to chew it. We were in the restaurant nearly 3 hours. We did not have dessert (weren't even asked if we wanted to). And we saw the people at tables around us having the same experience. It us so sad to see a once favorite place decline in such a drastic way. I typically will not leave a review if I cannot leave a good one, but this experience was so terrible, others should be made aware.
