She washed my hair in under two minutes and it was very clear my scalp was not clean afterwards. She would not pay attention to how she was drying using the towel and shoved it in my face many times. With the braiding gel, she would also put it on my face like she wasn't paying close attention. I had to remind her that the middle of my hair which is very dense was still wet and she does not know how to blow-dry hair! She is very aggressive and I am not sure what kind of training she got but I had a migraine after the appointment and had to take painkillers. I have never had such a painful hair appointment. It is not right for your customers to feel this way. I would have spoken to her if not for the language barrier and I wanted to cancel my appointment at some point but decided to keep going as I had already paid before the service!

The young lady who was in the store hurrying me to make a "conclusion" about knotless box braids was rude. "You need to make a conclusion because time is wasting". I started calling around and right when I called them, they said they could do my hair and even do it once I was off work at 2 pm. The price they quoted was WAY less than what my original braider was charging so already I was feeling good about them. Seeing the five stars on Yelp made me feel even better. I showed up a little after two and two women greeted me and told me to sit down. The owner as I come to find out is an Igbo woman, so I share that in common with her. It made me feel even more comfortable knowing the language they were speaking as well. The lady that did my hair was very quick. The owner helped with burning the ends and they finished within 4 hours which is pretty impressive as I did a bob style, and many other braiders said it wasn't really a style they could do when I called around. I've been going to Thoai for about a year now, and he's easily the best and most skilled hairdresser I've ever had out of any I've been to throughout my life! Thoai was also able to perceive that my hair would look even better with a perm. He was very patient and convinced me to get a perm and he was completely right, my hair looks really great permed and is so much easier to manage as well. He also does a really great job with perms in addition to regular haircuts. If you're an Asian guy who's had trouble finding the right stylist, I can't recommend Thoai enough. He's excellent, highly skilled, and extremely consistent.

If you're coming from the city, avoid rush hour and take advantage of the Saturday hours. The website has a convenient online scheduling system and you can email the salon to get on the waitlist. My other reviews about Nicole's talent and awesome personality hold up- she's so good at curly haircuts. Price is well worth the service! The new location is in a kind of a market of stylists and the niche room for Mop recreates the South End vibe quite well. Nicole has her drinks fridge, magazines and photo books, super fancy dryer, and excellent products, so nothing has changed. There is a kind of overall waiting area at the salon building with 2 chairs, but Nicole is punctual, so you won't be waiting there long. There are also general use bathrooms for the salon building that are nothing to write home about and not something Nicole can really influence anyway. I'm sensitive to smell/aerosol products and because it is a building of salon rooms, it is INTENSE in the hall/general waiting area. I wore a mask, which helped a lot, so if you have asthma or bad allergies I recommend bringing one along just in case. Of course, Nicole has some on hand because she remains awesome about COVID precautions and generally creating a safe and welcoming space. I came to this location recently for a Brazilian wax and the woman who did it ruined the entire salon for me. She kept double dipping and using the same stick on me for the entire service. I explained to her it was unsanitary and she insisted she changes the stick for every person. I completed a cosmetology program this year and I know you're supposed to use a different stick after it comes in contact with the skin. She didn't even have professional products to remove the wax residue after, nor did she take proper care to remove it thoroughly with the over the counter products she had. A couple days later I noticed pieces of wax left on my skin from poor wax residue removal and when it came off it took off my skin with it. This caused scars from the wax on my private area. I was so upset I will never get another wax here again nor will I recommend anyone get a wax here. I had high expectations considering all the hair stylists do an amazing job here and Sevena never disappoints me at the same salon on Comm Ave. I've been coming here for a few years and I loved my experiences but this one scared me away for a while.

The stylist and I even had a conversation beforehand of wants and not wants, where I specified these instructions and we both acknowledged that I wanted my hair to be shoulder length at the shortest. However, my hair is now barely chin length, my framing curls (usually cheek to chin length when discussed with the stylist) are by my eyebrows. I don't know if Jorden forgot about the concept of shrinkage but honestly I'm very saddened by my results, and every time I look in the mirror I get sadder. I understand people have bad days and maybe this was just a rare bad haircut for her, but I'm just sad that my years of hard work growing long and healthy curls are gone and it'll take a long time for my hair to grow back to the length I liked it at. Especially since I paid more money for an advanced stylist and ended up with a worse haircut. I will say the service was excellent, everyone took great care of me and were very understanding when I was 15 min late due to traffic. There's nothing the salon can do honestly, since they can't make hair grow back faster, but just writing this review to warn others keep a close eye on the haircut you're getting here so the same thing doesn't happen, even with an advanced stylist.
