I happened to be in town from Vegas and I knew I wanted to go to 8-Bit Aleworks, but my husband is not a beer drinker. My cousin told me about this place next door and it was perfect!! My husband actually brews his own mead, so this was a dream for him! The mead itself is delicious and lovingly crafted. The staff really knows their stuff and you can hear their passion when they talk about their flavors. I believe the person working on Thursday night was Michael (so sorry if that's wrong) but they were so friendly and patient while explaining the difference between their meads. My personal favorite was You Remind Me of the Babe. Their selection of hibiscus flavors are very tasty, as well. They have options all the way from super duper sweet (the double honey) to extremely dry (blackberry, tastes like a delicious red wine). The games are a nice touch and I wish I lived closer so I could join them for their silent book club. This will definitely be a staple every time I come to visit. And maybe a few bottles to bring home. If you're into mead, DnD, pirates, dragons, etc.....you gotta check this place out. read more

This meadery is very unique in that the name and decor are inspired by a book series. They have a great supplier and use that honey to make some very good mead, some also very sweet. As a non beer drinker, Im always on the hunt for places to try any other type of drink. I had tried mead at a few meaderies, but none were even remotely close to home. I stumbled upon Scale and Feathers meadery when it popped up on my gps. When you arrive you might think you are not at the right place as they are located in a sort of industrial area. When you walk in, you find yourself in a small, cozy, Game of Thrones vibe, small salon. They have multiple flavors of mead and also bottles to go. We had a flight, so we could sample those who sounded interesting and then order a pour of our favorite. But be careful! Mead, although sweet, packs a punch! Amazing time @scaleandfeathermead !!! Highly recommend this establishment for a Mead brew & fermentation tour, for a flight or two of Mead to taste, or simply to gather with friends!! The owners are here and give the tour as well as pour drinks at the bar. They are extremely passionate about their business and the art of Mead Making. They are introducing new flavors that are invented and tested in-house weekly! Food is not served here currently and you can bring in outside food to enjoy with your mead. Our son turned 21 and we called up and spoke to the owner who rearranged his schedule to give us a tour next day. Outstanding! He had so many Mead factoids I thought my head would explode. I love historical facts about how we arrive at a certain etymology in our culture. I know how "Honeymoon" came to be now, as well as many other honey wine histories. Come hear some honey wine stories while tasting the Nectar of the Gods. We discovered we loved the sweeter Meads but the drys were also delicious and sophisticated in flavor. We all want to return for a Blueberry Lemon Slushie next week! Yes, it will be epic can you imagine a fruity mead Slushie on a hot summer day? I am not a mead expert but if I was I would give this place a try. I was fortunate to visit this hole in the wall on its first day of business and I will say that I was not disappointed. The mead is amazing and I sampled their current pour list. The venue is cute, staff is awesome and has enough seating for larger parties to sample from their list of assorted meads. Here is my personal taste scoring for thier meads. 2nd Edition- Stars Sweet and smooth. Nice fruity finish. Great overall simple mead flavor Enchanted Buckler Stars Smooth, Sweet. Nice coffee flavor from mid to end. Bountiful Luck Stars Bite of a honey dipped strawberry. Slowly grows on you by the 3rd taste. Dark Maiden Stars Very dry. Similar to a dry rosé. Not very sweet. Couldn't taste blackberry very well. Summer fey Stars Bites, smooths then bites again. Sweet and different from most meads I have ever tried. Definitely not what you would expect. Worth the adventure. Faerie fire ¾ Stars Sweet yet bitter. Rasberry blossoms quite well. Feywild Stars Starts smooth sweet then a gentle burn at the end. It lets you think you can keep drinking it without punishment but slowly burns more as you drink more. Alduin- The Black Dragon 5/5 Stars Lightly sweet and smokey. You can taste the hickory. Reminds you of sweet marinated meat, smoked in a smoker. The honey you can taste it has actually been smoked. They did not add liquid smoke. By far, my favorite. read more

First of all, the mead here is really very good. I prefer drier tasting spirits and the guy who helped us really listened to our preferences and helped us to choose meads based on this. The staff is very friendly and you can tell that they really care about their clientele and products. As far as the set up goes, the space is small, however, they did such a great job with the decor and the overall theme of the place. It is evident that there is pride and attention to every detail that is put into every aspect of their space and products. This is located in an industrial park, same area and 8 Bit Aleworks (https://www.yelp.com/biz/8-bit-aleworks-avondale-2 .) It's totally worth a visit. It's a new mom and pop meadery that crafts in-house. Their meads are unique, varied and tasty. Well priced - a 2oz runs about $2 and you can taste all of them for about $18. They have larger sizes if you have a favorite. The saddest part for my visit was they didn't have bottles to go yet. Owners said they hope to have them available late summer 2019, so for now you must drink on-site. There is no food available, but I believe the owners are okay with you bringing food in with you. Mead, I find, is a bit of an acquired taste. I'd guess 90% of the population has never had it or their experience comes from a Renn Faire or bad bottle from a wine store. Good mead can range from honey sweet to very dry. Unlike wine or beer the flavors blend better or have a longer finish. The type of honey can alter the flavor, too. If you've not had mead, stop by and give this place a try. Ask questions on how to taste and how to appreciate it. Some descriptions will entice you and others may make you turn up your nose.
