I contracted Scaremite Termite last year to do some extermination work on my detached garage that my general contractor discovered when he demolished the walls in order to put new ones in place. I knew that at some point I needed work done in my home and I figured that if I had a good relationship with the company that did the work on my garage, then I could consider them for work in my main home. However, I was disappointed in the service that was provided. My wife previously posted on her experience. I am going to post my different experience I had with this company:
1. Tardiness - My wife mentioned it in another post, but I would like to iterate how annoying it is when people are late to their appointments. I can understand if somebody misses the mark when its 5-10 minutes late due to traffic, but when it is longer than 15 minutes, you're dropping the ball. Especially, if you don't call and let me know that you are running late.
2. The person did not come at the agreed upon appointment time - When the service technician came over, he reviewed the condition of the wall and then we settled on a date and time for when he was going to do the work. As we were having this discussion, a general contractor that was also doing work in the garage was also present and was a witness to the agreement. When the appointed time came, I called my general contractor who was doing work in my garage at that time and he told me that the termite technician had not arrived yet. I waited for a while and the termite technician was yet to arrive. I called the technician and asked what was going on and he told me that he thought that he scheduled the appointment for a different day. I told him not so and we rescheduled for another time. I then called my general contractor and asked him if he heard what day and time I told the termite technician we were going to meet and he told me the exact day and time that we had agreed to. If the general contractor got it, the termite contractor should have got it as well.
3. Price for work - When the termite inspection was done, the technician saw that the termite damage occurred on only one wall of the garage. He told me that he would charge me $400 to treat the wall that had the damage. After he left I was planning on calling other termite exterminators in the area when I received a call from the termite technician attempting to clear up any confusion and letting me know that the $400 work was for the entire garage, not just the wall. After the call, I went ahead and called the general contractor who was a witness to that conversation as well and asked him what did he think the termite exterminator was including in scope for $400 and he told me the wall, and only the wall. He called out what the exterminator was saying as, I quote, "BS."
4. Inspection of work - I was away on business and I was not on hand to validate the work that the termite exterminator did on my property. The termite exterminator expected my very pregnant wife to step into the garage with all the chemicals that were applied to inspect the garage in order to validate the work. I then discussed the matter with the technician over the phone and asked if he can either video phone or send me a picture of a sample of the work he did in order for me to know how to verify the work that was done on my return. It was like pulling teeth. I am a customer and I expect-within reason-to be shown any work that was done in my home. I don't think I have had an unpleasant experience asking for proof of work from anybody else other than this case. You can read my wife's review on her point of view on this event.
I believe in having strong relationships with people you work with. I wanted to have a good relationship with this company and after seeing some of the yelp reviews, I hoped it would be a good experience. I hope that after the garage, we can potentially address my home as well. I've had great working experiences with other contractors and have reused their services several times as a repeat customer. However, this has been singularly the worst experience I've had with a contractor to date. He included some sort of warranty with his work, but quite frankly, if I had any future issues in my garage, I will hire some else than use the warranty and utilize his services again. I did not rate this place 1 star because I was able to validate that the work was done, nothing more. What a shame.
You may be wondering why I am reviewing now just over a year later? Simply because I-and my neighbors-now need termite services for my home and it boils my blood that I have to look for someone else to do the work and figured that I'll finally document my review of this company while it's still vividly on my mind. read more
