I am in California. I was so glad to have found Scent & Violet to help with a funeral wreath. My wife was visiting Hong Kong, she called one night that her aunt in Houston, TX has just passed. She wants me to help with sending a funeral wreath for her aunt's service in Houston. She said it would be nice if I could include a banner written in traditional Chinese characters. I am not good with Chinese writing so my wife had to forward to me the Chinese characters to send to Scent & Violet not knowing if they can do the banner in Chinese or not. This was the Easter weekend. Crazy logistics in a tight schedule. I contacted a few floral places in Houston but have gotten no response except from Scent & Violet. The Scent & Violet website was very easy to follow. More importantly, the pricing was clearly stated. Susan was most helpful in answering all my questions in multiple emails quickly. She made some very good suggestions. She was able to do the banner in Chinese exactly the way I wanted, sending photos to me to make sure that it is the way I wanted. She also sent me a photo of the finished wreath & banner upon the delivery to the funeral home on the day of the service. When I need a florist shop, I can't find one. Then I read Yelp reviews and sometimes decide the ones I do find I should skip. So often, that leaves me with florists that are conveniently located or accidentally discovered, like this place. It's a florist shop that smells like a florist shop. Buried in one of the never-ending nondescript strip centers in Houston, the name, Scent and Violet, sparked my curiosity. When I walked in, I knew immediately I found the place I needed. The smell of flowers and plants decreased my stress level. The owner was polite and helpful -- yes -- I have to mention that because some florists shops have staff that treats me like an interruption. I explained what I needed, by when, to whom, and the price range. She offered some suggestions and I felt comfortable leaving things in her hands. The only bit of advice I didn't take was a recommendation to send the same to both parties. While I appreciated the sentiment, if the recipients of a gift are going to complain because he or she received something that subjectively appears "less", then that would be the recipient's problem. Whiny people are annoying (unless it's me). There weren't any in this shop, by the way. We chatted for a bit about the area and the name of the shop -- a name she chose because it reminded her of home. While I gave her the information and waited for her to enter it into the system, I took time to look around at the flowers in the brightly lit cooler, and the plants, pots and accessories. The only flowers were in the cooler and of course, that's immediately where your eye first lands. It was cheerful and inviting. The shop needed no other decoration, but the plentiful green plants filled what would otherwise be an ordinary space. I live out of state and ordered flowers online for my mom for Mother's Day. I requested the flowers be delivered before noon and they did not get to my mom until after 2pm. Although the bouquet was full, it looked nothing like what was advertised online. Had I known this is what the bouquet would have looked like in person I would not have ordered it. I chose this particular bouquet for the colors and what she got was mostly white and the color scheme was not great. I am sooo happy and obsessed with my order from Scent and Violet. Finding my way there was totally a cause and effect of what had happened with an online florist. I had ordered sympathy flowers with an angel statue to be delivered a certain day to my friend's house bc their dad had passed. I had a member of their family wait all day and the flowers never showed up. You can imagine how angry and upset I was! By now, I didn't want anything to do with them anymore nor did I trust them to redeliver! I called to get a refund and lost 3 days worth of my time and all I got was a LOT of frustration.
