Scented leaf is a great place in many levels. The staff is extremely helpful in educating you about all the various types, methods and options of tea. You'll see lots of people studying, hanging out and relaxing. I got one of the recommended drinks with mango tea, lemonade and a little sweetener. Really nice on a warm day. They're open late so it's a popular spot to study and with it being so close to campus it's easily accessible from the dorms. If you like tea this is a way better choice than going to Starbucks on university. The prices are reasonable and if you want a more mellow vibe check out their downtown location. read more

I have been twice since the tea house opened earlier this month. I like the feel of this place -- tall glass windows bring in plenty of natural light, the wooden seats are comfortable as is the lounge-type area. The space is small, but quite comfortable and cozy. I have tried one of the spiced teas (as a courtesy, that was nice and generous!) and the cream of mushroom soup. The soup was $6 for a bowl and a pita, which I opted to forgo for dietary reasons. The soup was somewhat thin, which surprised me. It wasn't water-thin, but more like the feel of whole milk. But wow! I loved the flavor! I will be back for the soup alone! And I hear they have minestrone, tomato basil and a whole host of others on rotation. Nice -- easy, quick meal. But the price is somewhat steep for soup. You can get a soup and salad across the way for just about $1 more. Bummer. I understand that they will be bringing more sandwiches and homemade recipes on board once school begins Aug. 20. For now, the menu is somewhat limited -- and rightfully slow. Business is miserable along the streetcar's route. That's a nudge to come check out the locally-owned establishments along University, Fourth Ave. and Speedway Blvd. Anyway, the tea display is pretty sweet. There are loose mounds of dried tea leaves, some mixed with flowers and seeds. Nice touch. You get the sense that you are getting the good, authentic stuff. read more

While I enjoyed the extensive loose leaf tea collection, I didn't quite know what I was in for in the parking department... You're basically in the heart of U of A and it's a little crazy. The spots in front of the store require you to back into them, and anywhere you park there's a meter. I ended up in a parking garage across the street, which wasn't too bad, but still a little annoying. I had a pot of the Meyer lemon tea on the barista's recommendation. It was very good, but I kinda wish I'd tried something else instead--the Earl Grey Creme looked amazing. Also wasn't a fan of the loud club music playing, but headphones and my own music cured that. So we went on the Tucson food tour and we quite confused why we would be stopping at a tea house. This was the first stop on the tour and we must say we were blown away. We had the prickly pear gusher (low sweet) and it was the best iced tea we have ever had. These were so good we went back after the tour and got our 50 cent refill. We're travelers and thought we'd stop in Tucson on our trip. I love love love this place! The employees were so kind and lively as though they enjoyed being there and speaking with their visitors. This place is amazing! We were greeted right away when we walked in and asked if it was our first time being there. She explained how it worked and made some recommendations! We bought our first iced teas and paid for a refill up-front, then got our refill before we wandered around downtown a bit. We stopped there again for the third (and free!) refill for the walk home (so necessary in hot Tucson!). We tried a young grasshopper, vanilla chai, mango gusher, fruity Thai, and a coconut lavender/piña colada mix - they were all so delicious! I like how they let you use coconut milk instead of almond milk, which is great for my allergies. The staff are super friendly and the place is not at all pretentious or unapproachable like some places downtown (*cough* shot in the dark cafe). We will definitely be back! read more

For just stopping in to get a cup of tea, this place can feel a bit pricey, but here's how to make it totally worth it: hot tea service. Ask the friendly people behind the counter which teas can be re-steeped, and then order the hot tea service, which comes in a little individual tea pot. Then sit yourself down at the super comfortable wall of couches, set up your laptop, and settle in. There's a great work vibe, as it's often quiet, especially in the mid-morning. Finish your tea? Raise the teapot lid, and they'll refill the hot water, for free! You can also add a friend to your tea service for a small extra charge, which makes the tea even more affordable. There's a version of this with the iced tea, which they have on tap, or you can order any tea iced. The first refill is something like a dollar, and the next one is free. But the hot tea service is my favorite, even when it's hot outside. There's great A/C inside. Their chocolate mousse pie is heavenly (and huge, though a bit pricey), and they often have soup available as well--though not as consistently in the summer. Music is always good, indy but not so strange it's distracting. The people behind the counter also love let you smell the different teas, so don't be shy about asking to smell the tins or taste the teas on tap. This is a sweet little tea house on University and Park. It's also heaven for a visual person--their whole tea selection is pictured on the back wall, organized by caffeine level, and their cheesecakes and brownies look just as good as they taste. Over the last six months (give or take), they've added more savory-type stuff, like chicken pot pie and wraps and salads. But all that aside, the real highlights are the tea and the staff. Everyone working there is super friendly, and the owner makes frequent appearances. Better yet, they're all knowledgeable about tea. Friends and I have gone in several times where we walked up to the counter and realized that we had no idea which teas we wanted. Every time we've gotten great recommendations, and every once in a while, we get some new concoctions when they're feeling particularly creative and when we give them a palette of flavors we're looking for. The only downside is that it's tricky to get a table during the school year since it's so popular and so close to the university. But if you tough out the Tucson summer, it becomes an absolutely divine place to sit for a few hours and get some work done. Realistically, it's a good thing tables are scarce nine months out of the year--it means they've got a shot at staying in business! Better still, especially if you're a grad student with a penchant for the iced teas they have on tap (SUCH a great idea!), you can get a couple of refills throughout the day if you come back with the same cup. It's the little things that make the difference between an mediocre and an outstanding experience and Scented Leaf has nailed it. I definitely suggest checking out their selection of iced teas as it's a refreshing change from the boring green or black tea options available at the large coffee chains. The selection of teas is extensive and both Shane and the employees have impressive knowledge of the qualities of each tea. Not a tea snob? Not to worry, they will definitely help you find something you will love. Surprisingly the deserts that they have are incredible as well. I'm a fan of the white chocolate cheesecake.
