What a great new find. I went for ice cream and found they have fantastic gelato. I had no intention of buying any of the chocolates until I spotted the dark chocolate caramels so I had to try them. While the chocolate looks very delicious and artsy, I did not particularly enjoy the Gelato options. There were a handful of options to go with, but out of the three I tasted: apple, orange, and vanilla, they all had a grainy texture to it. Now usually, Gelato is not as creamy as ice cream, and it is served at a higher temperature than its cousin, in order to maintain that famous elasticity. But this Gelato was a bit flaky/grainy. I imagine it had to do with the tub maybe having melted with the constant opening and closing of the glass, or maybe or it was turned to fast, but it had a sort of ice crystal flake taste/texture to it. The slow-churning technique that makes the majority of difference from Gelato to ice cream just maybe didn't reach the level I was used to (granted I had lived a year in Italy). But unfortunately, the Gelato felt more like ice cream, while the rich flavoring and vibrant coloration was lacking. This is my first time there, and perhaps I just happened to turn up on a slow or bad day. Now, I did not have a chance to get any of the chocolates, but from their looks, I could see myself picking a few up. The gentleman who served us was extremely kind and helpful, and I did feel welcomed. But this review should be acknowledged purely as a reflection on my opinion of the Gelato. It was not horrible, but it left much to be desired. That said, I would not be opposed to swinging by another time I feel the sweet escape. I'll probably venture into the key lime truffle. read more

Wow. Walking into the store was quite the experience. Chocolate everywhere ... I expected nothing less. The sales pitch, now that was unexpected. We entered the store after a nice dinner out between the six of us. Not knowing what to expect, we were greeted with enthusiasm from the owner, engaging with the history of the company, how unique it was, the quality, and the new flavors being rolled out. Personally I was impressed with the various molded chocolate. There were cute telephones, camera replicas, basketballs, footballs, you name it. I also liked the chocolate coated roses. The chocolate itself has a lot of variety, from truffles to sugar-free. 1/2 lb is $18, 1 lb box is $30. They rotate different specials all the time. The chocolate is made fresh on location, and nothing seemed more than a few days old. My friend and I split a box. We also got to try some chocolate too. I got to try a sugar free one (I was impressed at how it tasted), we got chocolate covered strawberries (for filling out contact info) and we also got to try some raspberry truffles. Delicious. I got the "Schako-latte" which I believe is just chocolate and milk. The dark chocolate one was absolutely delicious. Fun place. Good sweets. Thumbs up. read more

We were at Levis Commons for the holiday events and stopped by Schakolad to get a schako-latte (hot chocolate. Sorry, the latte part of the name doesn't mean coffee). I believe Schakolad is the only place in Levis Commons where you can go to get a hot chocolate (that's what the guy said but now that I think of it, I think you can get hot chocolate at Starbucks...). The hot chocolate comes milk or dark chocolate and is super rich and sweet. It's a great way to warm up on a chilly winter night! My husband and I went here on a date for my birthday and neither of us were very impressed by the flavors. We bought several different flavors of truffles and not a single one of them stood out. The chocolate was sort of bland flavor and waxy in texture. They did have a very nice look though and several different decorative chocolates and chocolate items/gifts that all looked very nice. read more

This is not only a great place to stop in for the occasional sweet treat. But they also cater fabulously to personal parties and company events. For our party we not only had little gift bags but we were provided a chocolate fountain and all the good stuff to dip in. In my opinion, if you want anything sweet at your next party this is the place for you. read more

We lost our local branch last fall. I had ordered chocolate coins for Chanukah, and chocolate letters for our friends' Sinterklaasdan celebration for several years. I found the Perrysburg branch online last year; I called, and put in a similar order to be shipped. Gordon did a terrific job! This was a complicated order--some things were to be milk chocolate, some white and most dark, and everything came just as requested. Schakolad is an amazing local chocolate shop that everyone in the Toledo area needs to visit. They have their own custom creation called a tortoise that is a must try! I have never had so much fun shopping at a chocolate shop. I had previously stumbled on this store approx. a year ago and purchased only a few items. During a recent business trip from Chicago I wanted to see if they were still in business. Much to my surprise they were and I was greeted with much energy by the owner who personally served me and truly was interested in what I was looking for. 30 minutes later and many laughs and samples in-between I got the best deal on a pound of chocolate. The owner was so engaging and informative about the history of chocolate. After refusing to eat a sample of dark chocolate we entered into a bet that, much to my enjoyment, I ultimately lost. I have NEVER in my life eaten a piece of dark chocolate and enjoyed the richness and smoothness. Consider me a convert...I now love dark chocolate...at least Schakolad's. I intend to frequent the location every time I am in the area and support their business. I truly recommend them for any personalized gift for any occasion and corporation. I found my Christmas gifts this year! It isn't your standard Fannie May and although it can be a higher priced store you definitely get your money's worth. read more

The service and the quality of the product is absolutely amazing! I walked in and was greeted by the owner and he and his team were very helpful and professional! I not only became a customer myself but in speaking with Gordon and showing me how versatile their operation is and what they can provide...I became a corporate customer as well! We give away about ten boxes of chocolate a month to our new clients and Gordon helped us design our chocolate business cards which are a big hit with our customers!
