Beautiful Saturday! We were able to get a spot right by the water, and in the sunshine, for a couple of hours before dinner. Hint, we got there shortly before 4pm and there was a lot of available spots - by the time we left, the whole place was packed. Come at odd hours to secure good seats! We had short pours of Combover (my favorite beer ever!), some Italian Pilsner Boyfriend wanted to try, and also their new Especial Mexican lager. I tasted both his choices, I liked Especial but pilsners definitely aren't my thing. He liked it though. Couldn't help myself and bought a shirt and 4-pack of Combover as well... Had 2 hours to spend at Schilling with my husband a few months ago. I didn't realize getting to Schilling was going to be so steep. Walking or driving towards Schilling is on a hill but Schilling itself is on less severe of an incline. I bring this up because we parked on the main street and walked down. I have some difficulty walking so the hill is top of mind for me. We were starving so opted to go to the pizza restaurant because we couldn't figure out where the snacky spot with cocktails was. We walked into a spot with a sign, but it was dimly lit and we didn't know where to go. In retrospect I wish we'd tried harder to find it because our experience at the pizza spot wasted most of our 2 hours. We sat outside at the pizza spot and were sat at a shared long wooden table with benches. The place was very busy and very filled with screaming children. We ordered beers and a pizza, finished the beers and order additional smaller pours. After seeing pizza served all around us, I asked the waitress where our pizza was and she said, "You didn't order one". She most definitely heard us order it because we watched her write it down and my husband and I commented on the fact she didn't look at him once. She said she'd put it in as a rush, and because we were starving, we agreed. The pizza was good but overall super disappointing situation all around. We then went to the tasting room for a quick pour, bathroom break and beer to go purchase. I'm writing this a few months later and all I recall is the NE style IPAs we bought in cans to go were dated much later than we would have liked, meaning the beer was brewed and canned a couple months prior. I'd expect that at a beer shop but not from the brewery itself. Late review: Another wonderful restaurant in the White mountains region (Littleton, New Hampshire) Must try for their decent selection of beers and wood fired pizzas in the menu. Outside: This restaurant is right next to the banks of Ammonoosuc River. They also do have some seating right next to the river. Cute little hut styled tables in front of the restaurant is perfect for a date night. Inside: Ambiance is pretty & they also do have a bar area inside. I devoured a large Chicken Maple and Bacon pizza. Staff warned me that I'll finish this large pizza if I'm really hungry. Damn, he was right about that. While being a tourist in the area I had included this spot to my list of things to do. German style beer and wood fire pizza?! Sign us up! Since visiting Germany my SO has been a fan of German style beer and he enjoyed the offerings here. He also enjoys a nice Brot and they make a tasty one - according to what I was told. I was here for the wood fire pizza. Nice crust. Chewy and flavorful. The tomato sauce has a healthy amount of garlic. Their house margarita includes roasted tomato and I wasn't sure about that, but they add a sweetness to the pie I hadn't expected. And although they say the pizza's are 'personal size' it was too big for me to eat. Maybe not you, but I was full. Our waitress was very personable and professional. Many people were dining outside in the covered courtyard. We chose to dine inside and had a view of the river. The interior is old wood and rustic decor. A single ladies/family restroom is to the right as you enter the building where you'll find a diaper station. Men's restroom is on the other side of the building. There is a bit of parking on the hill above the building (no fee) but you may have to park further away and walk a bit. A trip to Littleton requires a visit to Schilling Brewery. My margarita pizza was excellent as was their Schlomeyer beer to wash it down. Beers Co right by the creek. There are lively views if you are lucky enough to snag them. It's a little confusing where to go as there are two Schilling beer co and one called Mill Street Kitchen. I think they are all connected and the menu looked similar. We found a host stand and got sat in the outdoor picnic tables. Super cute. There were a lot of families, friends and couples. A good mix of the crowd. Hubs got a Sapa a Vietnamese lager. He liked it. Im more of an ale or cider girl. Not much offering there. I got a Stowe Ciser that was DRY. I Didnt care for it. But he said it was ok. I should oay more attention to descriptions. We got 2 pizzas, the loaded and maple bacon chicken. Both were great but we leaned more to the maple bacon chicken. My post-hike routine is usually burger and a beer. But day 1 we had an event potluck, and day 2 I was headed back home. So if I wanted my food, I was going to have to put in a little effort. Here's how it went: I stayed in North Woodstock. I hiked in Lincoln. I live in NJ. So to go to Littleton I basically had to go north then drive back south. But baby one thing about me - I'm committed to the bit. So off I went! Plus it gave me an excuse to consume all the beauty that is Franconia - twice. Now, North Woodstock has breweries. But the reviews were meh - and strictly betwixt us - the call of "NH's finest bbq" and brew wasn't doing it. In all my days I ain't never heard NH mentioned with the BBQ greats :/ I'd only been to Littleton once before and that was just to go to Wal-Mart and use the flush facilities of a local hotel - A cabin I rented two years ago for a girls getaway was EXTREMELY rustic much to my companion's horrror lmao. I had no idea Littleton had such a cute and vibrant downtown. Schilling Beer fit right in! Located on Mill St it was a New England covered bridge type beat. There was a sleek taproom and brewery perched on the hill, and the restaurant on the corner. There were copious picnic tables set up outside - many of them shaded under an awning, as well as a covered deck with tables, and a woody restaurant interior with a bar, bar height tables, and booths. I opted to sit outside at a picnic table. The Great: -picnic tables were super sturdy and rooted. Nothing worse than having to play the seesaw game at a cheap table. One person gets up and so does the table lmao. -the menu. Not only did I NOT want NH BBQ from another brewery, I actually came FOR the chicken maple bacon pizza. Let me explain something to you. You can put maple on roadkill and I'll eat it do you hear me?! So a pizza with maple?? I'm in. It was so good. The spinach cut through the richness of the cheese and maple. Unexpected and delightful. I do wish the bacon was crispier though. Next time I'll request that. They also had a Gose on the beer menu. Someone there really understands me and I love that for them. -this is a German inspired restaurant - my German ancestry SIL was back in Chicago loosing her ish when I sent her the menu and beer list. If I wasn't my own DD, I woulda strayed from the sours and gotten a few other things that caught my eye. -you can pay at your table through a QR code. Frankly, I liked this. -Service was great! I love dining alone and this was very enjoyable. The server checked in but was not overbearing. Food was delivered quickly. Yall know how I feel about breweries with food. Schilling commands the riverfront of Littleton occupying a brewery, brewpub, and restaurant. We dined at the center building - brewpub. The space has a bar and seating inside plus lots of outdoor seating with a deck overlooking a shallow stretch of the Ammonoosuc River. Schilling has an elite offering of Central European style beers. I've enjoyed a couple of their Pilsners elsewhere, so I was excited to sample more of their product line. First, I had the dark Czech lager poured from the side pull tap. Great head and a roast yet very sessionable drink. I followed it up with a half pour of their Zwickelbier. Mildly sweet and significantly more sessionable than expect. Next, I went with the Landbier. A hyper local offering using local grains. Up there with the dark lager from my top choices of the evening. I finished with one of my favorite styles: the Dortmunder. Ultra crisp. We shared a margherita pizza. Great crust. Crispy with a slight chewiness to it. Service was friendly and attentive. Beers always came quick and pizza was ready quite quickly too. Single occupancy restrooms. One restroom had accessibility bars and a changing table, but I believe there was a step to enter the brewpub. read more

We enjoyed the beer, but the food and setting (particularly on a nice Spring day) are the star here in my opinion. Never experiencing Littleton before this was the main reason for checking out a very cool town and AMAZING Main street! The absolute best part was the warm pretzel and beer cheese. This is worth making the trip from anywhere in New England and even beyond. We may have to adjust our trip plans to make at least one extra stop here because it's all we can think about. A pretty good choice for pizza if you are near the Flume Gorge. I was fortunate that they allowed me to split the styles of the pizza, as long as they are the same sauce base. I ended up with half chicken bacon ranch and half roundhouse pizza. Pretty good crust that was thin, crispy, but still had some glutinous chew. These pizzas are a little smaller than what you would see elsewhere, but not at all a personal size pizza. If you're a hungry dude, then you could easily eat this while pizza. If you're wanting some sense of prob control or can't eat too much, then this is shareable. I also have a feeling these pizzas get most of its heat from the bottom and not the top, because most of the toppings didn't have any char or browning on them. But overall, it was a good pizza, and provably one of the better meals you can have near the Flume Gorge. The salad is just ok. They do make their own maple vinaigrette which was not bad. The salad itself isn't crisp. It is still fresh, but felt like a salad I could have had at home when I leave my veggies in the fridge for a day or two. Overall, this is an easy choice to make if youre in Littleton. I cant say it's the best because it's the only place I went to as a restaurant. Like the beer and food, but the service is mean spirited and awful. The two older men in the Store & Tasting Room section were extremely rude and unwelcoming. As soon as I walked up to order, one of them leaned against the bar with one hand in a cold, intimidating posture and stared daggers at me. After they angrily stared at me for a few seconds I asked for a small put of #4 and #10 and he angrily exclaimed "Which one is that?!" While practically flinging a nearby menu around to look. When I returned later, the other bartender also had a hostile attitude. I was trying to remember the name of the four back I wanted and spoke a bit too queitly to which he said "you need to speak up". He was practically fuming angry the whole time and was going to escalate things even further until my brother found the beer on the menu and told him the name. The people in the kitchen were the saving grace--they were kind, and the food was good. I was planning to buy merch, but after that kind of treatment, I don't feel good about supporting the company anymore. I came on a Vermont brewery trip (Freak Folk, The Alchemist, Hill Farmstead) and was genuinely excited to include Schilling. I even buy their beer at home. But after how I was treated, I'm reconsidering that. I like this place's mission. But please treat customers with respect and show appreciation to the people who travel to support you. I go to breweries in Maine all the time and know how to be respectful and polite. Something they didn't care to show me. They literally got angry and acted like they wanted to yell at me. Out of Every brewery I've been to both on this trip and in Maine this is the worst customer service. When the guy was staring daggers at me it was like he hated my guts... We actually did not know where we were going, but follow the music right to the front door. This tavern serves pizza, And other woodstove items. A limited menu, but definitely worth a visit! They are known for their microbrews and have a dedicated clientele. This is definitely gonna be a place that we visit every time. We are in Littleton! Our server, Jess, was fabulous, and so were the other people that helped serve our food. Limited seating inside, but we sat out on a porch that was heated, and we could overlook the river while we had our dinner. We stopped by for beer and pizza after a hike. The patio in front of the restaurant was completely empty so we'd figure we wouldn't have a problem getting seated. The server directed us to another patio area where dogs are allowed. It was challenging to find a table because lots of people were seated, including people without dogs. It would have been helpful if people who didn't have dogs were directed to the patio where people with dogs could not sit. However, no one was organizing it and I would recommend they do. We had to order inside - no table service. We got a beer and a cider plus a pep pizza and salad to share. Everything was delicious. The server who brought our food out was kind and even gave us a side of ranch. This place has solid drinks and food. Good to know that dogs are only allowed on one specific patio - a patio that isn't as big so you might have to wait for a table to free up. He tried a couple of craft beers that he liked and the server, Emily, was so kind and helpful. In fact we enjoyed ourselves so much we decided to return the next night. What a great find on our stop in Littleton! A little slice of German Beer heaven. The food was incredible. I'm never a huge pizza fan but he ordered a loaded pizza and it was a beautiful thin crust slice of paradise. While on a business trip this location was recommended by the hotel receptionist where I stayed. This location is a brewery that has its own list of beers plus hard ciders. Schilling brews the best beer in New Hampshire, maybe even New England, and that's not hyperbole. Their focus is on European lagers, so if you're looking for 10 IPA variations on tap, this isn't the place for you. If you like to drink innovative and classically influenced lagers, this is nirvana. The brewery is on the bank of the Ammonoosuk River and was originally a mill with a water wheel,which is still there. They have a beer garden with lots of tables, a tavern inside, and a tasting room in the separate brew house steps away. The brewery campus is really cool, and they are adding a new kitchen soon. The food is excellent now, and I can't wait to go back this fall to try the new offerings. I go to a lot of breweries, and this is one of the best. Their beers are world class, and everything else is part of a special experience. That includes the charming town of Littleton as well. Worth making this a destination trip. The black building is their shop and tasting room and has nice, chill seating inside and out.
