My wife and I didn't know what to expect. The menu looked small but interesting and we were told that this is the place to eat in Littleton so we made a reservation for the lower dining room. It is a nice-sized dining room with comfortable tables, benches, and chairs. On our next visit, we will sit in the upper dining room or at the bar located at the upper dining room for no other reason than personal preference. The bar is not super large but very old school, dark and comfortable. Our server was excellent. He did a great job walking us through the menu, the day's specials, and all of the various drinks that they offered. We began with drinks. The Cosmopolitan that I had was a slightly different formulation with a float of Prosecco which was amazing. My wife had a gin-based drink with rosemary that was also excellent. We began with appetizers including crispy broccoli with Gorgonzola and buffalo sauce and a green tomato topped with a stuffed ravioli with cheese and a wonderful sauce. They were fantastic. My wife had mushroom ravioli and I had the special rib eye steak with fresh green beans and an amazing sauce. The steak was perfectly prepared and the beans had excellent snap and color. We split a dessert and settled on the Olive Oil cake with ice cream. The cake was moist and super flavorful. The price was not crazy considering what we received. We will eat here again on our next visit. read more

The hotel itself is nice, but beware of hidden charges and poor management. My family (my wife, myself, our 2 year old, and 5 year old) stayed here for 2 nights. After checkout, I was shocked to find two additional charges on my card for 100 dollars and 150 dollars, plus the hotel kept my 200 dollar incidental deposit. When I called to ask why, I was transferred to the front desk manager, Kelly, who was extremely rude and dismissive. She claimed my family had "trashed the room" and that there was a "horrible stench." When I asked for clarification, she mentioned there was a dirty diaper left behind. Yes, that was my mistake, but to be charged 450 dollars in total for a single overlooked diaper, some sand from the beach, and normal family use of a hotel room is absolutely outrageous. Instead of resolving the issue professionally, Kelly told me (in so many words) to get lost, threatened to report my Hilton friends and family discount to corporate, and made the entire situation worse. For someone in hospitality, her lack of professionalism and basic conflict resolution skills was shocking. I have stayed in many hotels and never have I been treated this poorly or charged such unreasonable fees. I will not be returning to this property, and after this experience, I have little interest in staying at a Hilton property again. read more

This was a wonderful date night spot! Although there were not many gluten free options, the chef was very willing to accommodate and the waitress knew exactly what I would need to modify. I had the burger on a bed of lettuce and it was absolutely beautifully cooked, served with a side of baked potato wedges instead of the fries, which were absolutely delicious! When the dining room got full, it did get a little bit loud so I'd recommend going earlier for a quieter meal! Overall a great choice! read more

Great modern American option in Littleton with a cozy feel. The milk bread was light, airy and paired with flavorful cultured butter. We had a cremini mushroom bisque to start, which was good, but missed the mark on flavor by a smidge. The crispy broccoli was a bit over salted for our taste and we were a little underwhelmed by the celery and carrot accompaniment. The pork chop, however, stole the show. It was fine. I was expecting a lot more from our experience here given the hype. I was expecting wonderful cocktails, delicious well thought out meal options and whimsical desserts. Dinner was a bust as soon as we were seated. I ordered the peach margarita and was told by the waitress that the "smoky" tequila was no longer available. "You mean the mezcal? Ok, that's fine", I told her. I can have it with regular tequila. After a few minutes she came back with my drink and told me they ran out of peach juice. "So is this a peach margarita or a different drink?", I asked. She told me it was a peach margarita. She lied. The drink she brought me tasted like concentrate lime juice...the kind you can buy in a bottle at the grocery store. I sent the drink back and asked for wine. Later we found she had tried to charge me for the drink...not the best service. The fried broccoli appetizer however was delicious. The char on the marinated broccoli was delicious. Maybe I should have ordered more appetizers rather than a meal. I ordered a lobster roll. However I'm from Boston so obviously my expectations were high. I should have lowered them. The roll and lobster was doused in butter and the bun was a bit soggy. It was still good though. The chips on the side of the lobster roll though were overly dressed with vinegar and inedible. All in all dinner was fine. Nothing wonderful and I certainly wouldn't return here. That being said we stayed at this hotel and it was wonderful. Ambience was great if you appreciate an old tavern feel. Service was excellent and the food was delicious. Appetizers of clam chowder and lamb meatballs with milk bread had the four of us very happy. My wife and I had another wonderful dinner at the Beal House this weekend. Once again Chef Adam knocked it out of the park with his version of sautéed calamari; perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. It is sooo easy to overcook the calamari but he knows what he is doing. A little S&P to bring out the flavors to the individual palate is his knowledge. Then for the entree, a NY strip cooked as ordered, again seasoned properly and when cut by my against the grain, his cut of meat requires minimal chewing and the steak flavor was outstanding. We came here on July 4 at 6 pm and it wasn't busy yet. We did have reservations as you never know how busy a place will be. Its a charming old tavern and lovely copper bar. The table upstairs felt like you are in a cozy inn- the area downstairs feels disconnected. Different tables, different chairs...seems like another restaurant. That is kind of odd. But we were upstairs so all was good. The server was very pleasant and brought us 2 warm pieces of homemade black pepper bread with butter while we looked at the menu. It tasted very good, but when I was done with it , I could feel the pepper. A little too much. I decided on the Daily Fish (salmon) and then due to some teeth issues, ordered asparagus and roasted fingerling potatoes with it instead of local sautéed spinach/roasted shallots/grape tomatoes/capers $23.00 The chef was very accommodating in allowing me to switch things around and I was very grateful. I asked our server how the salmon was prepared and she said she thought it was roasted. No, it was pan-seared. The flavor of the fresh fish was good, but the pan sear was a bit over done. The roasted asparagus and fingerlings were yummy but there was an excessive amount of oil on everything. So I had small pool of oil under the potatoes, salmon and asparagus. My BF decided on the Pan Fried Gnocchi - /chicken/ sausage/ tomatoes/fresh mozzarella/arugula. $17.00. He enjoyed it and said it had nice flavors and was very tasty. He also noticed there was too much oil in his dish, so maybe it's just how they serve it. We opted for no dessert, but enjoyed the meal and would definitely return. It is a limited menu with one dish per protein (chicken, fish, pork, beef scallops) , so if you don't mind that you should enjoy it here! read more

Towards the end of a weekend filled with breweries, hikes and cozy but casual cafes, we cleaned up for a birthday dinner at The Beal House. We were seated right away at a corner table in the upper dining room where all of the tables were spaced out really well. First of all, we need to talk about how beautiful this house is! It's right on Main Street and feels very New England cozy. They are also a hotel and I can say it is a great location to stay. All of their cocktails looks delicious but I went for a tamarind margarita (very citrusy and tasty) while my boyfriend (and the bday boy) got an old fashioned. His was nice and strong and not too sweet. For an appetizer, we started with the crab cake. So good!! It was just how I loved it, mostly crab. Not too much of anything else or packed with breadcrumbs, but tons of flavor and on a spread of mayo. For once in our five years of dating, Peter agreed to go splitzkies with me for entrees. This is a big deal!!!! He got the grilled steak and I got the scallops. Both were AMAZING. Some of the best scallops I've ordered and I love that it came on a bed of really tasty greens and veggies like brussel sprouts, artichoke and fennel. His steak was also insanely amazing. Cooked perfectly medium and it came with mouthwatering mashed potatoes and roasted brussel sprouts. We were FULL. But, it was a big birthday, so we had to get something sweet. For dessert we split the chocolate brownie with sweet cream ice cream, salted almonds and caramel crunched on top and topped with whipped cream. It was heavenly. I snuck away after we ordered it to ask if they could please throw a candle on it for him and they did no problem. Much to his joy and relief, it was just a candle and did not come along with a song. While this area is packed to the brim with awesome breweries and casual restaurants, The Beal House is worth the trip (and the clean up). read more

Parking is difficult although maybe there is more parking that I did not see since it was a rainy night. I will update this section when I go back. Service was slow This was just our server. She was busy leaning and doing other chores that we waited a long time to order our food it took her so long to get back to us when it was time for desert that we did not bother The other server on the other hand was very efficient and took fantastic care of his clients. They have a special that is 2 dinners and a bottle of wine for $40.00. The items that you can choose from are marked on the menu. It was a good selection. This special is from 4 to 6 pm you may want to make a reservation as they fill up fast We had Lobster an decided to upgrade to the lazy man Lobster. The Lobster was cooked to perfection. It was a good size portion I would guess between 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 lb solid meat. We did not see a wine we wanted from the list but they gave us a choice of either another beverage, salad or desert. My friend chose the salad which was a rather large salad. It was one of the best salads I have seen served. Try thief home made dressing. I opted for the desert which we took with us. I had the Turtle cheesecake. It was not too sweet. A nice size portion and worth going back for more. Even though our service was slow I highly recommend going here. The food is well worth the price. They offer items from $11.95 to $30.00 The owner was quite charming and you can tell that he cares about his clients. Multiple super star dishes. Very affordable at $90 before tip with drinks, appetizers, entrees and dessert for two. Cocktails are really creative but not as well executed as the food. Crab Cake with pineapple salsa and pomegranate glaze - 5/5. I don't even like crab cake because I find it boring but this was impossible not to appreciate because it was so well crafted. The pop of the pineapple and pomegranate perfectly balances the crab. Spaghetti Squash with balsamic - 5/5. Wonderful combination of squash and sour balsamic. Could eat all day. Boursin Beef Orecchiette - 5/5. Boursin Mac and cheese with beef. Well done but not the dish I expected. Rich, cheesy and broken up by the meat and crackers. Awesome twist to use boursin. Flourless Chocolate Cake - 5/5. Unbelievable dessert. Bailey's glaze, coffee ice cream and rich decadent chocolate combine in a magical way. Honey cheesecake - 3/5. The cheesecake was very well done. Light and flavorful. But the berries, honey and cream on top are way too subtle. Pear Thyme Margherita - 3/5. largely tastes like a real Margherita. Too sour for me Bourbon sour - 3/5. Lemon balances out the bourbon well but something felt off balance. Poutine - 3/5. Poutine is one of my wife's favorite foods. She says fries and cheese were good, gravy lacked flavor. read more

Loved the atmosphere of this old fashioned local inn. The staff was friendly and the place was dim lit with candles at each table. Defiantly one of the more upscale places in town but also with a relaxing vibe. They had a fantastic drink selection with cocktails that portrayed the area and local IPA's too. The steak we had was cooked to perfection wish it had more sauce though and potatoes rather than fries would have been more comparable to the plate. Somehow we had room for dessert after all of this and the sticky ginger cake was incredible!! I was skeptical trying something new but glad I did. The cake was moist and warm. A lovely farm to table restaurant with friendly service and decent prices. The food is traditional American/European but everything is done well with fresh ingrediants. The atmosphere is somewhere between casual and formal, but overall it's cofortable. We came in on a Saturday night and walked in without a problem. We had a tomato salad, a pork (it wasn't a chop this night) and a burger. The highlight was probably the tomato salad. Fresh tomatoes, nicely toasted bread, cucumber and cheese. Great proportions and everything was delicious. The tomatoes were in season and tasty. The burger was juciy with a nice crisp chedder. The fries were really well done and just what we needed after a day of hiking. The pork was probably the least impressive of our dishes. Nothing wrong with it, just nothing amazing. Total with one beer came to a very reasonable $48 bucks. Definitely someplace that we would come back if we are in town again, and we'd look to stay as well. read more

I love The Beal House! I missed it while it was closed for a period of time. I spend a week in the White Mountains every winter for the past 20+ years (I'm a New Englander transplanted to Texas) because I just need some winter weather and sports. The ambiance is casual and friendly and the staff is, too. My Mom and I found ourselves dining at The Beal House on St. Patrick's Day by design, as they promised corned beef and cabbage and I was anticipating their spin on the dish. I was not disappointed. Corned beef can be dry and tough if it's overcooked - The Beal House will have none of that, thank you very much! Their corned beef was tender and moist, the cabbage was shredded with carrots and herbs - easily the best corned beef I have ever tasted. The potatoes that came with it were flavorful boiled potatoes, also wonderful. Mom and I both ordered a drink with dinner and I was very surprised by how reasonable the cocktails were. Also, the cost of the corned beef was a bargain in my opinion. We ordered dessert which was a blondie baked in a small cast iron ramekin with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream. It was a tasty end to a memorable meal. I've been to The Beal House a few times and love their ever fresh menu. Love their personable, conversational staff and casual atmosphere. This is my favorite place from Littleton to Lancaster. It's way better than Grandmas diner, Catalanos, JL Sullivan's, and the harvest tavern at the Mountain View Grand. I found the food original and delicious. We ordered the crispy broccoli, pinestead farm salad, and the burger. All were super good and not quite like anything I've had elsewhere! It was less than $30 for three courses, which is insanee coming from San Francisco Plus, the environment is lovely! Great lighting and awesome copper bar. Well designed 1 page menu. Perfect. We are in town visiting and we made a reservation online & received a confirmation then when we arrived the hostess said there was NO reservation in our name so I would recommend to the owner (Adam) to check your online reservation system. Thankfully there was an available table. This is a quaint restaurant with ambience and was very nice enjoying our time together with friends. The presentation of our dishes I would give 4 stars...flavor in both of our dishes was very good. The only complaint is our dishes were not very warm and I'm sure its because they sat in the window waiting for the server. Unfortunately, the service was not very good at all. Scarlett desperately needs training. Not very personable, when we ordered our dinners she never advised us it didn't come with salad nor did she ask if we wanted any appetizers. Very minimal service. When I asked for salt and pepper I was given these little dishes & had to scoop it out with my fingers. Since we are in this crazy "vivid season" I was quite shocked. We had to ask for silverware, more drinks, then our dirty plates sat in front of us for a good 15 minutes. When I looked around the 2 other tables were also done and dirty dishes piled in front of them as well. Looking around for the server she was visiting with the hostess. Lastly, when we were ready to pay with our credit card in hand server walked by 3 times and saw our card and never said a word. Disappointed. My girlfriend and I stopped in for dinner on a whim last Saturday night and were kindly given a spot at the bar since it was fully booked. We were not disappointed! We started with the poutine which she doesn't normally like but she loved this. I've eaten a lottery of poutine before but this was the best that I've ever had....perfect cheese curds and the right amount of gravy. I had the fried chicken which was cooked perfectly and had some really nice Swiss chard with it. My girlfriend had the steak which did come undercooked from what she had ordered but still tasted excellent. The pickled carrots were a nice touch also. She also ordered the crispy brussell sprouts which she loved. We shared the maple creme brûlée...it was out of this world! My girlfriend had a couple drinks as well. The blood orange Cosmo was really good and the rosemary bourbon went down well too. We loved the atmosphere of this restaurant. Very rustic interior, dimly lit with a lot of charm. The service was excellent. Attentive without feeling rushed or bothered. I would highly recommend The Beal House to anybody looking for a nice date night or just getting together with friends. read more

I had a wonderful experience at the Beal House with a large bachelorette party. First, I made the reservations for eight people about an hour before we arrived on a Saturday night. The staff had absolutely no problem with this and were accommodating and kind. Second, we got a bit lost, so we arrived about 15 minutes late. They had kept our table (very kindly!), and we sat down immediately. Third, the ambiance here is so beautiful. It's an old farm house converted into a restaurant and inn, and the attention to detail is truly impressive. Fourth, the drinks and food were really gorgeous. All the cocktails were fun and tasty. First points: the food, our servicer and atmosphere was great. We will definitely go back. Now with that said, there are some quirks they need to work out. We had made a reservation via our inn keeper on a Tuesday for Saturday night. Our party was 6 total, including two 12 old boys. You enter one door, which I believe is for the inn, then you walk across to the restaurant. You pass the kitchen on the way in. There is no door on the kitchen and that bothered me. So then you walk into the "down stair" area of the restaurant. You walk up a couple of stairs to the main restaurant. The downstairs seemed it was for overflow of diners. The lighting is bright, there is a wood burner stove in there which is nice, but you are looking down the hallway you just walked in from. There is no decorations. The chairs are all wrought iron. It doesn't have a nice ambiance like we were expecting for such a nice restaurant with good reviews. My girlfriend asked the girl who seated us if we could move upstairs. She went to look and came back to tell us those tables were for reservations and they couldn't be moved to make a party of 6. My friend said " we have a reservation." The girl just said sorry and we sat down. Now I'm sitting on a cold wrought iron chair in a bright room listening to the kitchen. I wasn't happy. So I walked up to the upstairs part to see what it was like. It is as if walking into a different place with lovely character and ambiance. I got even more unhappy and said that out loud "I am not happy with this situation." One of the waitress heard me and asked what was wrong. I explained the situation. She pointed to a table that had a booth side and three chairs. She said if you can fit in there your more then welcome to take that table. We fit perfectly and had a wonderful meal with her as our waitress. We were there for quite awhile. Then another girl came over to help clear. Our waitress asked us if we wanted dessert and we said yes. The the girl who helped clear the table put the bill on the table. We then repeated that we wanted dessert. Just an error. But she came back and threw the dessert menus on the table and walked away. Very different then the style of our waitress and what you would expect in The Beal. So this is my recommendations to you and the restaurant: 1. When making a reservation ask for a table upstairs. 2. Beal- when you get a reservation, you always give them one of your best tables 3. Beal - make the downstairs match the upstairs, put a door or drapery between the hallway and going into the downstair area. I know it is hard to get help but the need to be more consistent in style for your restaurant. 4. This is more my opinion but I would put a door on the kitchen and dress up that hallway a bit. Let me preface by saying I've been to The Beal House multiple times and for the most part, I think it's a solid restaurant and among a handful of decent dining destinations in Littleton and the White Mountains. You can pay more to dine at some of the inns, but for a relatively consistent experience, The Beal House is one of the go-to destinations. What defines The Beal House for me is the quality of the locally sourced food coupled with a pleasant and welcoming staff. All that said - and I do intend to come back for future meals - I do have a couple of gripes which I'll share as constructive criticism. First, the prices: I've seen it everywhere but the cost of dining out is getting a bit steep - and that's no different here. The dinner rolls at The Beal House - and you get 4 of them with a small slab of salted butter - are not free. They're delicious but they cost $6; a couple of months ago, they were $4. A slice of grilled bread topped with burrata, olive oil, squash and peppers was a cool $16. The fried chicken entree, with one piece of chicken breast, was $27. It was good - and comes with a sizable chunk of chicken - but I felt it was $5 too much. My ice tea for $3 came in what I would call a smallish glass - it should be served in a pint glass. A small piece of vanilla cake with "local strawberries" and whipped cream came in at $8 and what we ended up with was some strawberry sauce. Was the food good? Yes. But I think the pricing is off. One more thing: when I'm spending $110+ for 2 to have dinner, and then stick around for dessert, I would like the table top to be cleaned off of all crumbs and food from the previous course. I should not have to ask to have this done. And finally, get an espresso machine because a restaurant with good food and relatively high prices should have that option for their guests. read more

It's this simple - Beal House is very, very special. We stopped in last night and ordered takeout because of Covid-19. It was too bad we couldn't have had a nice dinner inside the Inn, and because it was takeout, we just ordered burgers and ate them in the car. They were FANTASTIC as always. I've returned to Beal House multiple times since we first visited it, and it has never been less than 5-star and a great pleasure to visit. I'm disappointed to see that there are people giving Beal House less-than-stellar reviews during this pandemic, for one reason or another which strikes me as nit-picking in a time of crisis. All I can say is, Beal House has not let their standards slip one iota from what I can tell. The food is amazing, and they have created something very special up in the mountains. It's a privilege and a real treat to eat there! There is no better restaurant anywhere in the White Mountains that I'm aware of. To the team at Beal House: THANK YOU. You really have created something very special and it comes through loud and clear with every bite. Got into town late. On a whim, I decided to try the Beal House. Rustic, charming, and quaint. The ambience is one of old small town America. It's situated in an old historical building, which gives it character. I sat at the bar. Help was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. A plus. Uniquely creative fare, from burger, fish, seafood, and pork. I tried the pork. Amazing flavor, with a scrumptious side of polenta and swiss chard. There is no doubt they use locally sourced food. Extensive beer and wine list with local brews. Well worth the price and the extra drive. read more
