Our car stopped working. They were so kind and helpful! Taking care of our car and provided us a rental!

This is a rather long rant, but in essence it's a warning of Buyer Beware if you buy from Schimmer Ford. July of 2023 I ordered a Ford Maverick from Schiller ford, I knew it would take some time so I was patient for months, it wasn't until I heard others who had ordered from other dealers months after me and already had build dates that I became annoyed. I started contacting the dealer periodically to check on the status and was always just told Ford hasn't picked up the order yet and they can't give me any updates. When I heard a couple people I know that ordered in March 2024 and already had build dates in June, I began to get angry. I contacted Ford customer service and was told they had no record of my order and I would have to talk to the dealer. I told them if I could get any information from the dealer I would t be calling them. I then sent an email to the CEO of ford and head of customer relations and within a day I was contacted by ford, they took the information on my order escalated it and gave me a build date. Something maybe the dealer could have done months ago and I wouldn't have been waiting for almost a year. The same guy also told me that the dealer had a few others stuck in their order banks, so if you ordered from Schimmer and have been waiting a long time you're welcome. Your vehicle might finally be on its way to production. I had told the dealer several times that I wanted to be notified as soon as they got a build date because my fear is they would wait to call me until the truck was on the lot and then low ball me on my trade saying take it or leave it we will just sell it to someone else. They assured me they would so I would have time to sell my trade myself if they were unwilling to give me its value. I waited three days after Ford had located and scheduled a build for my truck and still no updates from the dealer. I wrote a letter to the president expressing my dissatisfaction with the follow-up and customer service and why did I have to be the one to go to corporate and get this order moving, why didn't any of his staff take the initiative to find out why it was stuck in limbo. I received a snarky email back with absolutely no appologies and basically telling me to feel free to buy the truck elsewhere. I have waited almost a year, my trade is now a year older, interest rates are higher. If he had offered even one apology for his staff not following up and a willingness to do the best he could on my trade, or in any respect at least pretended he wanted to earn my business I would have gone through with the deal. But he might as well have told me to F- off, go somewhere else. So that's how they treat their customers. read more

I wouldn't give them ANY stars if that were allowed. I bought my 2012 Chevy Malibu from this Peru location, in November 2014. From the beginning, I have had a number of issues, and they have always been unwilling to help, stating that because they're a Ford dealership, they are unable to diagnose or treat ANY issues. They have a sister store in Mendota, IL, which is great, but the Peru location has never been willing to get my car to Mendota to have it checked out. That has always been my responsibility. Don't get me wrong, I have no problems taking care of things myself. But, when a dealership sells someone a vehicle, I expect their customer service to help people. I have had a few flat tires since owning this vehicle, and not once have they attempted to offer any assistance in getting my vehicle looked at, or offered to get a loaner care to me, so mine could be fixed. This morning, I had yet another flat tire, with a giant screw in the middle of my tire. I was lucky enough to have my boyfriend remove the tire and get the donut on in its place. I called Schimmer, and was told "well, you can probably bring it in sometime this afternoon, but I can't guarantee we can look at it today". Umm, it's a flat tire, not a standard oil change or a minor issue. My rim was hitting the ground, tire is FLLLLLLAT, I can't drive on it, and with having to work all day, I can't really just pick up and leave when I want to drive it over to you, to possibly not have it fixed today. They're worthless, and I will be speaking to their GM about the issues I've had with them, and I will be sure no one I know buys from them again. read more

recently purchased my dream car from Schimmer and was very pleased with the sales team. Jeff and Olga were fantastic! I've been on the hunt for one of these cars for months and was willing to purchase sight unseen and pay for delivery. In my experience, many dealerships won't negotiate over the phone and like to trap you by coming into the dealership. The sales team at Schimmer knew I lived a few hours away and we made a deal within minutes over the phone. No sales tricks or anything, professional business deal from the first phone call. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the accommodation. Jeff advised me on better financing than my bank offered and Olga drove 100 miles to my home to close the deal. If you are looking for a sales team who accommodates, look no further. If that is not good customer service, I don't know what is. Customer Service is not a priority. Purchased a brand new car with a very small dent and made an appointment to bring my car in to have it fixed. I dropped my car off and came to pick it up the next day only to find it hadn't been moved or touched. Made another appointment for a week later and made attempts to speak with the original salesman and he never returned our calls. Come time for my first oil change I decided to give them another shot. I made an appointment and waited 1.5 hrs for my car. Done. read more

Bought my 2011 Chrysler Town and Country on April 11, 2018. First off I'd like to say that I specifically told them the payment I could afford. I guess that didn't matter but I needed the vehicle as my old one was experiencing transmission issues and was on it's last legs. Fast forward to today 6/22/18 and I am stranded on I 39 with a blown transmission. My old one at least still moved, not this one. I wasn't allowed to look at different vehicles, this was the one they approved me for but hey I needed a car. Unbelievable that this is the end result of trusting a car dealer. Customer Service and follow through, seriously lack at Schimmer. I am so disgusted. Have dealt with Rob the Service Manager twice, and Big John. Bought a Cadillac from them. I am an out of state buyer. Made initial $1000.00 earnest money payment via debit card. Then 4 days later, wired the cash balance. Did get confirmation of the $1000.00 pymt. from Schimmer, but never rec'd any type of confirmation on the wire balance due transfer until I called to see if there was a problem with the wire. I SPECIFICALLY asked if the car had "Chrome Wheels "before purchasing it. Was advised by Big John "Yes". Eventually I'm told "Sorry" they're alloy, and immediately ....Did I still want the car by Rob and Big John.????? This is appx., a $1000.00 OEM upgrade. After paying cash for the car, I look on line, and my car is STILL listed "For Sale", WITH an increased price of an additional $1400.00 appx. ???????????????????????? Was advised, after I pay for it in full..... I will get 2 day Priority Mail packet as to sign paperwork for the purchase, and I will in turn, return it the same way..... To date, NOTHING. Called for Big John this morning, am advised by receptionist "I don't know where he is". So I ask for Rob. Where is the paperwork ? " I will call you back in 10 min."....I wait, wait, wait, 4 hours later I call Rob back.. Rob is still in process of finding if, when, and how paperwork sent....I advised I have had nothing but bad Customer Service from Day 1. Schimmer has not followed through on anything. NOTHING has gone right, mean while, my shipper is waiting to transport the car. I finally get call back 2 hours ago, that paperwork should be here tomorrow morning... TOTAL LACK of CUSTOMER SERVICE and FOLLOW THROUGH with a CASH Customer. No allowances made what so ever for all the screw ups....It should never be this difficult to buy a car, when paying cash, in which I should not have to follow up on their end about getting ANY/ALL paperwork sent. Lastly, after making a large down payment, to reflect serious intent about purchasing it, and when it was discovered, it didn't have the OEM chrome wheels, and I confronted them, I was IMMEDIATELY asked by both Rob and BigJohn "Do you still want the car?? I found this most offensive.....as I was told a man in Chicago wanted the collectible car. THUS, BUYERS BEWARE............Hopefully some day I will see my car.... read more

I bought a Jeep Compass there and when I bought it not even first week needed work done on it, was in their shop for week did not receive any calls on what was going on with it I had to keep calling to finally get answer !! I have warranty with This jeep so had called in on it again never received a call back !! Called recently and spoke with rob again promised me a call back and have yet to receive it !!!! DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM THIS DEALER!!! Bought car within 2 months car started falling apart. Bought warranty that will only cover 2000$, of 6,000$ worth of issues!! Pay 100$ deduct. Each visit wether car is fixed or not!! We have called several times, each time told we needed to wait 1yr before they could trade car in?? What? 9000$ car that will not be running in one year due to all the issues. When asked for records of car being checked before sale, NONE where done. Car was traded and sold the next day to us!! After breaking down on the highway, we were towed to Schimmer to get our van fixed. Not being from the area we had no idea what to expect. The service was excellent. They were unbelievably busy but treated us extremely well and kept us updated throughout the process. The service manager and his staff were top rate, from everything we saw. read more

Recently I bought a new 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0 Turbo. Great vehicle inside and out. I bought it from John King at Schimmer Hyundai. This is the third Santa Fe in a row I have bought from John. This is a quality SUV with the best warranty you can get. I really like the new style of the new Santa Fe. It just seems more refined then previous years even though I still like the others i have owned. Schimmer has a great group of people from the owner to sales to the service department. We had the best and most interesting experience with Schimmer Ford... Everything about this dealership is EXCELLENT. Here's why... There is a new manager at this dealership by the name of Don McClain, and it's because he takes his job very seriously that we had an excellent experience. Of all the dealerships and of all the managers I've dealt with, not just in the car industry but in general really, Don is the best by far and wide. He took the time to handle my requests directly, and even gave me his personal number to contact him directly. Not only did he solve every single problem we had from start to finish, he reassured us that he would stand behind the car we bought and just wanted to make sure we left the dealership with the best possible experience... Mission accomplished, Don! He has certainly earned our business now and in the future. So much so that we are willing to drive over 100 miles from our house to the dealership simply because of the way Don does business. He restored our faith and trust in car dealerships! read more

Bought a used car, only got 1 key, no owners manual, rear CV boot was slinging grease, rear brake pads were almost gone, all tires should have been replaced, all my concerns fell on deaf ears from sales to used car manager. I wouldn't buy from these guys no matter what " good deal " you're getting. read more

I then went to Schimmer ford and a lady by the name of April Anderson had come out as they always do..but to my surprise she was'nt pushy or did'nt make me feel like she just wanted the sale...She helped me find a safe reliable car for my daughter which I never wanted to spend a ton of money on since it was her first car and she was so great and understanding with that...I would recommend buying a car not only at Schimmer ford but ask for April because she was great with helping me find something affordable and reliable for my daughter. read more

This happened maybe 2-3 years ago. I brought my Honda in for them to look at. Didn't feel like taking it to Honda of Ottawa. I purchased a brand new 2014 Ford Escape from them. I asked them to check the brakes and later in the day they called me and said that it needed all new brakes, rotors and pads. I went to pick the car up and asked them how much it would cost. They said between 900.00 to up to 1000.00. I asked to talk to the person that worked on the car. He came out and I talked to him and he said he recommends I don't drive the care until this was done. This car was given to me by my girlfriend just before she passed. She kept records of all the work she had done. I looked it up and she had new brakes put on just before she passed. I took it somewhere else and found out there was a rock under the pad that was causing problems. Cost was zero. Never will I deal with Schimmer again. I go to Al Cioni now. They are great. read more

I was driving from TN to WI Memorial weekend when my alternator went. Stuck in Peru I lucked on Schimmer. They were only open a few hours Saturday morning but in that time they tracked down the part outside the dealership at a parts store, installed it and had me on the road by noon. I can't thank them enough, and though I will unfortunately never have the opportunity to use them again, I can't recommend them enough. read more

I did get a call when car was finished with no discussion with me prior, did not even have car back 30 min. not fixed. Drove to different dealership was told I was charged too much. Made arrangements to look at and possibly buy a car. Had issues with not getting straight answers to some questions, but possibly got that straightened out the night before on a phone call. Later that evening they decided to say they needed a deposit on a sight unseen vehicle. Sent them a response to tell them they lost a sale. Remember that there are no regulation regarding deposits. Change your mind, or they change the terms, you are out your money. read more

I brought my car here when I was experiencing engine trouble. The engine light was on and a friend said It was it was misfiring. It was a Ford Taurus so I figured a Ford dealership was the way to go. I dropped it off, they didn't offer me a loaner, so I had to arrange transportation. They called me that evening and said I needed a new engine and offered me a used model for $3200 or a new model for $4500. I was taken aback and told them, "No, Thanks," but when I came in the next morning to pick up my car it was still in pieces. So my mom, who was ferrying me around, had to bring me back home and then back to Schimmer in the evening when my car was reassembled. They then charged me $340 to have done nothing. My uncle, having heard about this, recommended I take my car to Al Cioni, another Ford dealership, in Granville, which I did the next morning. They gave me a loaner and I went home and got a call from them at 2:30 saying the problem was simply a broken valve coil. They said it would run about $260 so I told them to go ahead and they told me, "No, we've already fixed it, come pick it up." I was elated. In conclusion, there are honest, excellent dealerships out there and there are cheating, thieving ones. Schimmer is the latter. read more

Just wait until you have to have service done on your car. Of course they are nice when they are trying to sell you a car, but once they sold it to you, Schimmer doesn't care about you anymore. Same way with any dealership these days. You can tell by the little effort they exert when dealing with you. Took our Hyundai Sonata in at the end of May to have a common squeaky moon roof looked at, Schimmer said there is a TSB (Techinical Service Bulletin) on it. Scheduled appointment, get a call saying it was fixed, went to pick up car, and it was disgusting and dirty, parts installed improperly, parts broken. Drove it home, still NOT FIXED. After they made a few more attempts, they still could not fix it and then decided to scratch the car up after i told them not to wash it. got that taken care of thankfully. Took the car in again for fix on front overhead console on 7/26. No call on 7/27, we had to call on 7/28 "slipped their mind to call", got the parts to "fix" moon roof. Call on 7/29 that car is ready for pick up. No damage this time, so that is a plus, but the moon roof still squeaks and we will have to go back again and more than likely again, and again and then likely get rid of the car as to not deal with Schimmer ever again. 0/10 will not recommend to anyone. read more
