Brought my mom here and we decided to share their happy hour loaded fries ($7)- the waiter said they were half the size of the normal menu priced size so we figured we'd get something else later on, but NOPE. It was still so big! And finger-licking delicious. Perfect for us both to split. And for the best part, if you're of drinking age their happy hour drink specials are crazy! Honestly I thought the place closed, but to my surprise they are still open. Menu has been vastly reduced, but still has bbq staples. Chicken wings were white/yellow, no way cooked in a smoker. Very unappealing. Order a rack of ribs and the ribs were sliced for me, have never had a bbq place do this, and drenched in sauce, but the meat was good & thankfully I like the sauce. Chicken was so dry I couldn't eat it. Swapped it for pulled pork which was decent. Brisket was ok, if slightly overcooked. I won't be back & they should have stayed closed to let a good restaurant take over. read more

We came here on a Wednesday afternoon after Christmas. It was happy hour, so we we looking at $2 beers. We first tasted some of the local beers and settled on a few different options. We then set about looking at the menu for food. We decided on the loaded fries, brisket and the grilled cheese and pulled pork sandwich with fries. The loaded fries are covered with cheese, pulled pork and a white bbq sauce. OMG it was amazing! The grilled cheese with short ribs have pickled onions The add a lovely color to the dish. We chose the sweet potato fries. We also ordered a brisket dinner with a side Cesar salad. The Cesar was more dressed more then I like, but for most people they would love it. the pork had a barbecue sauce that was very good -a Sriracha maple. a little spicy but not too spicy. The brisket was not as tender as I would like. The Sweet potato fries are excellent -crispy on the outside with soft on the inside, very very good. So, the loaded fries were a huge hit with my group. The grilled cheese with also a big hit. Sweet tater fries, I highly recommend. The brisket dinner came in third place but was still very acceptable. The staff were awesome, the young man behind the bar were very helpful in helping us choose beers that we are to our taste. And they turned in heaters for us outside. read more

Wonderful outdoor dining! Tables widely spaced, with umbrellas for shade and heaters. Probably the best outdoor dining experience I've seen in Leesburg so far. Our server offered to bring us a selection of sauce to taste, because we weren't sure which one was spicy or not. Actually they all were pretty darn good. I got the loaded fries, which actually turned into two meals for me. Big chunks of pork and wonderful cheese! BF got the grilled cheese and rib sandwich. It was awesome as well. 4 stars is correct. This isn't the best BBQ in the area. It's good. And it's seems everything they have is good. We had the wings (dry bbq), pulled pork sandwich, brisket sandwich, Mac n Cheese, and sweet potato fries. The portions on the entrees were huge. I'll give them that. They don't skimp. The wings were very good. I excited to try other flavors. The pork got a thumbs up, the Mac n cheese, although small, was tasty and homemade. The negative probably being my brisket dried out. It was pretty lean and not moist. The pieces were kind of tough and lacked flavor. Maybe this is because I traveled with it, and had to make it back to Ashburn. But I was hoping for better. We came here for drinks after dinner so we didn't try the food. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The drinks were good and prices reasonable. About $5 for mocktails and $9 for cocktails. The best part about this place is the back patio. There are large picnic tables with huge umbrellas and heaters everywhere that make the ambiance cool as well. For a Saturday night there was music playing through speakers that added to the fun ambiance but the volume was low so you could easily talk at your table without shouting. These two adult meals fed my family of four with enough leftovers for a large meal for one person or two lunch sized meals. Most hipster BBQ joints usually skimp on portion size. To be honest I wasn't a fan of the food. I got the Mac and cheese and brisket sandwich. Everything was bland and the brisket was way too fatty for my liking. I tried to separate all the fat from the meat. Mac and Cheese was also watered down. The drinks - my friend got two drinks and I got one drink. I did not like my drink it tasted watered down and sour. She said the same thing about her drink. The second drink she got she did enjoy though! Overall personally, I wouldn't go back. Went for lunch. It's was good, but nothing spectacular. We tried ribs, brisket, pulled pork, 1/4 chicken, baked beans, coke slaw, macaroni n cheese and French fries. Of the meats, the ribs were the best, decent smoke and flavor. Brisket was very tender, but bland. Pulled pork was tasty, but a little dry. Chicken was bland and way over cooked, I couldn't take a second bite. Sides were all good, but fries were cold. All the different sauces were really good! BBQ, happy hours, outdoor seating, and fun events. This place is a great spot in Leesburg. The $3 at 3pm, $4 at 4pm and so on are the best for after work happy hours after rough days. I've eaten in person plenty of times with attentive service and rapid service. The takeout hasn't worked out well for me but they've done what they needed to do to correct the issue. The loaded fries are the best happy hour food (to share) and the wings are all pretty good. They aren't a true bbq place so don't get offended by the brisket; just get the pulled pork. We used to love Schmidt's, but for some reason they have very steadily gone downhill. At its opening they had a full bar with great cocktails and happy hour specials, great food, and a classic BBQ atmosphere. Now, you're lucky to get a canned cocktail and a few beer options, and everything, from drinks to food to sauce, is inexplicably served in single use plastic containers (was it really much more work to serve on metal trays with paper lining?). This used to be our go-to place for a casual dinner when people visited, but being served a sit-down meal in takeout containers is bizarre and unappealing. Finally, it seems like the food isn't always as fresh, which I'd imagine is due to a focus on takeout vs eat-in and not as much turnover. read more

The server was too busy flirting with girls at the bar and another server was talking about how she lied about getting vaccinated while standing right behind me without a mask. Food order was also wrong. The Brisket was bland and fatty. The mac and cheese was dry with no flavor. When my wife finally got the other half of her order, she didn't eat it after the first bite because it was tasteless. I've been in the bar industry for 21 years and I understand mistakes happen but there were 5 tables total on the property. I would say go for the drinks and music but even the beer was warm. I ordered from Schmidt's BBQ through GrubHub today. When the food was delivered, my side order (mac & cheese) was missing. I don't know if the error was Schmidt's or GrubHub's but I called the restaurant. I told the gentleman who answered the phone what had happened. Having lots of food delivery experience, I know that most restaurants would just say, "Sorry. You have to call GrubHub." Instead, this gentleman actually drove to my home and dropped off not one but two sides of mac & cheese. The food was delicious and the service was of a caliber that you RARELY see these days. The bbq is pretty good. We have been there a few times with inconsistent quality of service. Usual wait time has been 40 minutes - 1 hour. However, our most recent visit we were seated immediately and the server came to our table quickly after we were seated. After placing our drink orders, 15 minutes went by before our server checked in on us and we still had not received our drinks. After receiving my cocktail, my significant other waited another 10 minutes for his beer. We waited at least an hour for our food while noticing no other patrons around us were receiving food as well. We figured it must have been an issue in the kitchen, however our server nor a manager addressed our extremely long wait time appropriately. The staff seemed to avoid interaction with the customers altogether during this time. We finally received our food an hour and 15 mins after ordering, ate for about 10 mins, then were told by our server the kitchen staff were trying to leave so we had to wrap up our meal. Then we were told the cooks were "pissed" and would not let us get bbq sauce to go. Horrible service. The kitchen needs to get it together and management needs to better address customer service. read more

In this Covid age finding such a nice outdoor seating area is a real treat: large and spacious with socially distant wood picnic tables, fire pit, and a long side bar with tall stools to spread out as well. All seating is under nice umbrellas or shade trees. Big bar well equipped with variety of drinks including beer on tap completes the out door set up. Now for the food: we tried the brisket platter and the baby back ribs. Both were delicious and tender. The home fries came out fresh and piping hot- the best we've had in a while. They were served on attractive looking metal trays lined with checkered paper. Jamie, (as in Lee Curtis) our lovely and friendly server was very helpful with a scanned menu that popped up on our phone - great Covid and environmental alternative to disposable menus. We were going to take photos but the food smelled and looked so good we forgot about it. Great new replacement for previous mediocre establishments at this location. Ordered carryout and the order taker said he'd bring the food to me. Well, after 30+ minutes I asked where my food is. He said, "You haven't gotten it yet?" Guess he forgot he said he'd bring it to my car. At any rate, the only person working there who didn't seem to be high, found my food upstairs at the entrance. The pulled pork platter and brisket tacos were very good. Cole slaw just needed some salt and pepper to make it very good. For being really a bar, the food was worth going back for. Guess you have to sale a certain amount of food per regulations. When it comes to restaurants, management or owner presence is important to making money and there isn't enough presence there. The kids pouring drinks had no clue what they were doing. The young lady who found our takeout was schooling what looked like youngsters under 21 how to make drinks. I'm sad to share I do not recommend this place. If BBQ is in your name then the BBQ should stand on its own. We were a party of two and ordered the pulled pork sandwich with baked beans (for an extra $1!?) and the beef brisket platter with potato salad, both with their house bbq sauce. The beef brisket was more than half just fat and the bbq sauce was bland and tasted watered down. The potato salad was ok. The pulled pork was on the dry side and the baked beans lacked any flavor as if it was straight from a can with no seasoning. Both meals came with bread n butter pickles and pickled onions which were actually great. The restaurant is set up such that you go to the bar to order and pay and are given a pager that alarms when it's ready to go to the pick up window to pick up. The server only delivered our beverages and never stopped by the table to check on us - ever. And the restaurant was empty. That should have been our first clue to just leave. Highly Recommend you visit!! We happen to be in downtown Leesburg and upon exiting our vehicle was assaulted by the most delicious smells known to man. We had stopped for lunch and agreed upon Mexican but the lore of delicious BBQ could not be passed up. Having had plenty of so so BBQ experiences we tempered our expectations as we entered. We entered and were kindly greeted and given options for take out or patio seating. After being sat around the fire pit the waiter explained they just opened the previous day. We ordered drinks and meals and enjoyed the lovely patio and day. The servers were really great and very attentive. Shortly after our drinks came our food arrived. OMGOSH... it was better then the BBQ we drove to South Carolina for last fall. And never again will I head to Frederick for BBQ. This is the best in town. We ordered the short rib grilled cheese with fries and brisket sandwiches with Mac. I think the pics will help but prepare yourself to eat the whole thing... so good. And the fries are crisp potato perfection. I hope these guys stay around a long time! I know we will be back, already planned to visit next week. Way to go!! read more

I wanted to love this BBQ since it is so close to home. It is better than the other local option (see my review for opinions there) but not the best spot in Loudoun Co. At least not yet - they just opened so I'll give them more chances!!! The bark was okay on the brisket and the flavors are there. The sauces didn't overwhelm me and the beans were down right disappointing - really tasted like canned pork & beans. But like I said, we're willing to give them another shot. The classic BBQ dive; old house with the backyard converted to picnic tables and some high tops with a small stage in the back. Walk in and I guy sitting in this tiny alcove takes your order, really doesn't seem to care one way or the other :)... you get a buzzer and come back for your order to an opening in the kitchen where to women on their phones toss the food to you while still on their phones. I had ribs, my girlfriend had a pulled pork sandwich...both were very good. You get a tiny plastic cup of sauce and if you want more they charge $4 ! Very weird. My little cup didn't suffice for my 1/2 rack of ribs, but I wasn't going to pay another $4 for another tiny cup. Food is very good, everything else needs work. read more

Completely agree with one of the other reviewers below. The venue is nice if the weather is good, and can imagine that it would be a nice place to hang out with a musician playing. We were seated immediately and were told to scan a QR code for the menu. Almost instantly a server came and asked us for our meals. If you have the capability of having the menu via the QR code, why not link it to a table number where people can also place the order (similar to Chick Fil A)? Our meals came fairly quick and consisted of brisket and pulled pork with a side of mac n cheese each. We also asked for a little bit of each of the sauces. The brisket was some of the driest we've ever had with very little flavor. It wasn't really sliced, more like chunks. The same thing was to be said about the pork. One good bite and the rest was super dry with no flavor. It was also in super big chunks, which can be easily remedied if just a little more pulling was done. For both meats, the more we ate it, the more we didn't want to eat it. The mac n cheese was decent, and a decent portion, just a little heavy for our liking. The sauces were decent. Personal preference was that the mustard sauce had a bit too much mustard, but the sweet, spicy, and Alabama white were all pretty good. The house sauce, however, was disgusting. It tasted like the (what we think were) onions were severely overcooked and burned, then the sauce was simmered way too long that it started to turn into caramel. Both of us regretted even that one taste. It also smelled really burnt. Maybe they are still going through a learning curve for BBQ, but at the moment we don't intend on going back with all the other options in Leesburg (for non-BBQ food). read more

Let me start by saying that this is my first Yelp review ever. I was debating on if I was going to say something but figured maybe my review could help either the establishment to step their game up or save a family from eating here. Arguably one of the worst bbq establishments in northern VA. I ordered the brisket with a side of bbq baked beans and some fries. The brisket was clearly baked in an oven with little to no salt and no coarse ground black pepper. 0 bark!! Really 0 bark!! It was so absent of smoke flavor that when I brought it home my wife even confessed that it didn't even smell like bbq!!! Who does this establishment really think they're foolin? Especially with the smoker out back. Certainly not me. That thing is clearly out there just for show . I'm from Texas, have been bbqing for 20+ years and know better. The house bbq sauce was overpowered with either syrup/honey and was extremely watery. Their sweet sauce is just sweet baby rays and the spicy sauce is just a terrible science experiment w/cayenne pepper. No acidity or balance in flavor. The baked beans were more of a charro style soupy bean with pieces of bacon and their house bbq sauce added in. Fries were good though. This place has potential. Solid location & clean establishment but IMO ownership really needs to revamp the recipes and improve the customer experience if they want to last another 10 years. But who knows, maybe they don't. They also need a new register as well because the tap feature doesn't work and they guy behind the counter (who's was acting very little weird) had to type my card number in by hand on 2 occasions. I wish this place the best. Maybe this is a wake up call, maybe it's not. But If you're in the Leesburg area don't just take my word for it check this place out. read more

Food was supposed to be brought out. Good 30 mins, finally went to bar to see where food is... "oh kitchen printer messed up, they may not of gotten the order... I can just cancel" ... umm no, I'm sorry about that, or I can get the kitchen to expedite the order. I paid the check and won't be returning, it seems like others feel the same on Saturday night.. no manager on duty, employees could be careless... same owners of sidebar ... won't be patronizing them either. read more

Great live music, great back yard seating! However, being our first time here we didn't know where to go or how to be seated. We were not greeted by anyone and just followed the crowds to the back. We sat down and were told a server would come and no one did for 20 minutes. After seeing a waiter and letting them know they came another 15 minutes later. The food was great, even though it wasn't what we ordered. Really needs to improve communication and get more servers/help. Luckily the live music made the time feel shorter. read more
