They hand cook everything at the time of order so don't expect fast food, but you can count on great food. The owners, Fred and Amber treat everyone like family, welcoming every guest with a smile. They make rounds to each table to ensure each guest has a positive dining experience.   Our waiter, Dean provided exemplary table service from start to finish. This was our first time eating here, and we are not familiar with German fare. He took the time to explain the dishes we were interested in, and also recommended some favorites from the menu. For the appetizers we chose the fried camembert (which came with fried parsley and jam) and the mushroom truffle pierogies. Both were outstanding. Our main course was the Wurst sampler, which we shared. Each wurst was unique and delicious, the sides/mustards complimented every bite perfectly. I love, love, love their food!! and Beer! what a German restaurant without beer?!! shnitzel haus very good variety of German beers. Potato -leek soup (Kartoffel-Lauch Suppe mit Speck) is just awesome: creamy, with crumbles of bacon and cheddar cheese. Würst- Sampler is always in our order, five different sausages with mustard and potato salad. oh..yes..and Potato salad is something! try Schneckenpfaennchen (snails in garlic butter), or Reh-Kirschwuerstchen mit Kartoffelsalat (cherry sausage), and it's just the begging of your feast! My favorite is Jaegerschnitzel or Schnitzel a la Holsteinm, I love schnitzel, and they know how to do it. Staff is very helpful, nice and know what to suggest. My family and I had Easter dinner here. They never cease to amaze...my brother had the lamb shank, I had the venison stew both were off their Easter menu choices. I watched my brother start to cut his lamb chop a few minutes later I looked over and saw the clean bone laying on his clean plate. I always frequented this establishment when I lived in BayRidge, the food, enviornment, and beer is awsome here! I love every dining experience I have here, I know live in Staten Island and still travel back to eat here with my family. Its run by a wonderful family, the staff is very accomidating as well. The food is always in an abundance, and I always enjoy it and go home with leftovers. Ive had many family gatherings at the Schnitzel Haus, and Ive had my housewarming party catered in Staten Island from the Schnitzel Haus,and all our guest said it was delicious and they thought the whole set up was extremely professional! Went here last night. Wait staff was friendly and helpful. Service was fast but certainly not rushed. Ambiance and atmosphere isn't the greatest, but isn't bad either. Establishment is sparely decorated and well lit. They have live music some nights, but on the night we went it was a quiet, casual dining experience. Its not a negative, but FYI, this is a cash-only establishment. The food here was downright excellent. Ordered escargot for an appetizer and Jagershnitzel for an entree, both were excellently prepared and delicious. The friends I went with also ordered pork entrees (shank meal, I believe) which were very good as well. The portions of the entrees alone are more than enough to fill up any grown person and still have some leftovers to bring home. Prices of the entrees were very reasonable ($18-$32), but I feel like the drinks are a bit overpriced ($8 for any draft beer). All in all an excellent experience, and I will certainly be back at the Shnitzel Haus in the future. read more

Come on this place is awesome. Great for beer, the food is solid and there is a wide variety to choose from-so you can play it safe or try something new. Bring an appetite, the portions are quite large. I really love the Schweinshaxe hofbraeuhaus, a pork shank with a dark beer gravy. If you're like me and not a fan of sauerkraut, you can sub wonderful steamed veggies, which are very fresh. I like to get the Bavarian pretzel as an appetizer and have that with one of the wide and changing selection of German (& other) beers. It's nice that they always serve it in the appropriate glass, and the waitstaff are knowledgeable about all the beer selections. There is often live music, which gives you something to enjoy while you're allowing enough digestion to take place so you can move again. I've gone there a couple of times after eating dinner at home, just to try their desserts! I find there's usually no room after eating dinner at the Schnitzel Haus! read more

Delicious! We ordered from this company for our Oktoberfest event and really loved the food. They do not take credit cards, which is tough for businesses like ours that needs to issue checks from a branch of our company in another state. I hope they change that policy. Also, it would be a good idea to allow them an extra half hour at least on deliveries into Manhattan. We would order from this company again. read more

i used to eat at schnitzl house years ago...great, great food and live entertainment...now i read in the ny post that the owner, fred urban, will probably lose his business because of the corona virus shut down....yet every day he still cooks delicious meals and personally delivers them to the elderly and homeless...5 stars for great food and being a true hero read more

One star for the beer! It was good! I have been to so many places in NY and this one is the WORST by far. We ordered schnitzel and they brought us raw meat. The salad was like they just took it out from the freezer. Also the sauce that was supposed to be spicy was sweet. I never tried something bad as this! So disappointed. Now we are going somewhere else to eat...In addition, the server that we had did not talk at all and was not nice ! TERRIBLE! STAY AWAY! This is one of my favorite places in Bay Ridge, it reminds me of the show 'Cheers' where everyone knows your name, they don't know mine lol but it just has that friendly vibe & I see that they do know a lot of their customers. Every time I come the food is always delicious & the staff super friendly! Oh and for lent this week they even have a special menu made up which was awesome! I'll be back sooner than later!! This time around we ordered the mini crab cakes & fried breaded camenbert cheese. The crab cakes were on a bed of salad, crunchy on the outside & simply delicious & bonus no crab shells! I really dislike when I eat crab cakes & there's some shell pieces in the mix. The cheese is bold but tasty, I've never had anything like it. I did cut pieces of it with some red currant jelly that it came with & fried parsley with some bread that was served & ate it that way & it was perfect. I ordered the salmon with lemon butter sauce & on top was 3 pieces of shrimp-seriously one of my FAVORITE dishes!! It comes with spinach & mash, all I have to say it's a must try! read more

Have not been here in a few years after bad experience with the food. Decided to give it another shot,well it hasn't gotten any better.My wife had the chicken paprikash,really awful,you don't use chicken breast for entrée and sauce was terrible. I had pork dish that felt greasy going down and repeated on me rest of evening. I guess if you sit at the bar the beers are good and if you drink enough it might make you forget about what your eating. read more

My family (a group of 16 persons) went a couple of weeks ago for a baby shower for my sister. The restaurant gave us the entire up-stair which was very spacious and nicely decorated. It had 2 bathrooms up-stair and they were very clean (which is important for me). We had kids in our group and there was a lot of space for them to run away (a rare treat for the adults). Lot of food, fresh, good price. We had the pork shank ($19) and two persons could not finish it. We also ordered the sampler of 5 sausages ($18), delicious and we also could not finish it! They had kid's menu and we had tried Gulasch with noodles ($5) and it was very delicious. We liked the Octoberfest beer and the white wine they recommended. We loved the black forest cake, apple strudel with ice cream and the German chocolate cake (~ $5 each). Their coffee was GOOD too (one needs a good coffee to end a big meal). The service was a little slow but it gave us a lot of time to talk and we had a very good time. The restaurant is a perfect place for family event. read more

Nice place, food is great, but there is hardly ANYONE there. I went during Oktoberfest, and you would think there's a lot of people there. Well, guess again. 6 families and the stupidest musi ever. Went here for dinner with my mom and aunt, it was not impressive in the least. My aunt got food from the buffet because she was starving but it looked as if it'd been sitting out there for hours. Worked in the neighborhood for a long time but never been there for dinner before. So decided to go with some friends. Service was quick. No complain with the food. We weren't familiar with German food and didn't know how big the portion was so we asked the waitress after we ordered if it's enough food for us after we ordered a few dishes and she said oh def not enough you should order more. So yeah we ordered 2 more main courses. After the apps arrived i was a little shocked with the portions. I was thinking to myself maybe the mains aren't going to be that big. So dish after dish came, i was getting a little pissed because she wasn't honest to us. So we left with almost a table full of food. Yeah, i know we can bring it home afterwards, but it was just not right. I paid more than i should. Usually when I'm at a new restaurant i usually asked the waiting staff if the food i ordered was enough to feed us and how big the portions are they usually would tell me (the truth). I know if the bill came out more the more tip he or she will get. But this is not right. This is not the right way to treat a new customer. read more

Well what can I say we came here a couple weeks ago on a Sunday and had a very pleasant time. The food was good the waitress was exceptional... She told us about the many specials throughout the week. We decided to return for the Wednesday night buffet. Mistake, the food was ok, there wasn't really any variety. Only one vegetable dish. Although the salad was very nice we all said that was our favorite. The service was very lackluster. The bartender was very personable but the waiter should have just stayed home. At one point we asked if we could get some bread or rolls. We were told the don't have bread on Wednesdays... wait....what?? read more

Food was good but the service was atrocious. I would recommend this place but with the proviso that you may have to wait A LONG TIME for your food-if it comes out at all. This seems to be a trend because the couple we were sitting next to said it was their second visit and the service was just as bad that time too. In addition, the credit card machine wasn't working so we had to scramble for almost $100 in cash to pay for the meal. We had the sausage sampler as an appetizer. It was a treat but we were disappointed that they didn't identify the different sausages for us so we had no idea what we were eating. In addition, the waitress was useless at recommending beers. There were a lot we hadn't heard of and she only knew the names (barely). I would suggest that the bartender (or someone else) go table to table and make a show out of recommending the right beer for a person based upon what they like of known American beers (ie. budwiser, coors, etc.). it would be fun and it would make it feel like the workers care (which I absolutely did not feel tonight). I MIGHT give it another chance but if the service doesn't improve Bayridge has too many restaurants to put up with inferior service. read more

Good food and terrific service. Seasonal additions to menu and beers which is fun. Nice, welcoming servers and bartenders. Good for date night (can be loud though), family friendly. If you have a group you may want to ask about entertainment for that night. It is impossible to have a conversation when they have a band or karaoke. But some people like that. read more
