I finally got to visit here, and it only took a trip to a foreign country to do it. Coming off the heels of a trip to Switzerland, I decided to stop here because in case for those that do not know, Switzerland and Germany share important and similar cuisines and cultures. After all, Switzerland and Germany share a border, and a language. Most Swiss speak German, so I figure this would be a great spot to try after spending six days in one of Europe's underrated gems. I am here to break it all down for you to tell you what I got, the rating, and then conclude whether or not you should spend your cash (yes, this is a cash only restaurant) here. For this restaurant to have a create your own Schnitzel option is one that I took seriously, and I am happy that I have the opportunity to do it. I got three cutlets of each variety, pork, chicken, and veal, then smothered it with mushroom gravy (rahmschnitzel style), then topping it with an egg. Since it comes with two sides, I chose the pretzel and the spaetzle, but those will be discussed separately. For dessert, I got their apple strudel because no true German dinner would be complete without be ordering one of them. ---- Schnitzel: The Schnitzel here is as delicious as I had it many times over in Switzerland. Lean cut, lots of flavor, good breading, and a character reminiscent of its European brethren, I was happy to eat it and I told my server that this was delicious. The veal one is probably the best, then the chicken, followed by the pork, but either of the three work well in a pinch. The mushroom gravy is spot on with plenty of mushrooms and the gravy is deep, and rich. Getting the fried egg on top gave it all a nice texture and though it costs extra, definitely get the add on. Eating all three had for a moment wanting me to turn around, and get back on a plane to Geneva or Zurich. Star rating: 4.5/5 Spaetzle: Spaeztle is German pasta, like a soggy noddle, but can be made either with meat, cheese or left on its own. It very much is like its cousin, gnocchi, as it is a potato pasta, with starchy flavor and needs to soak up its contents or the whole thing tastes lousy. Fortunately, the cheese here makes it like a European Mac n cheese. The cheese to the pasta make it quite the salty dish, but I enjoyed this a lot and really felt that this was a surefire side that I must get if I were to return. Star rating: 4/5 Pretzel: A Brezel, as it is called here, works well on its own. The cheeses they provide you give absolutely no character. I would also like it if the pretzel were saltless. The pretzels in Europe contain very little, to any salt, they let the butteriness and the bread do the talking. I had to scrape most of it off to save the taste, but it was still tough. To make this work you need at least to try the mustards once, but it only made it work just slightly. This is where they drop the ball, at least to me, on some authenticity to concede to American tastes. Star rating: 3.5/5 Strudel: The strudel here comes in apple form, which is not a surprise considering that was something I noticed as well while in Switzerland. The cream it comes with is delicious (because why else?), however everything else sends it downhill. It is tough, chewy, and was borderline burnt for about 80% of the pastry. I tried to cut it with a fork and knife but it only made the matter worse. Not the ideal way to end things. It is also quite expensive. Star rating: 2/5 ---- The food on the whole is absolutely delicious, but they also offer entertainment. Because the restaurant is small, it creates an issue hard to hear anything but the instruments and an uncomfortable environment to enjoy a meal. As the band that night was continuing to set up and prepare, the meal became less enjoyable because the acoustics in the restaurant are poor and made it harder to think straight. Once able, I paid my bill as quickly as possible got out of there before the band was able to really start performing. There was ringing in my ears for a time after I left as well. Lousy acoustics and dessert aside, this is a great way to try some authentic Alsace cuisine without having to fly to the region.

Great food. Great atmosphere. Great service. Schnitzel Haus is one of the few places you can get German fare in South Brooklyn and it's a good one. The portions are generous and the food defines comfort. The schnitzels are tender inside and crispy outside, but I highly recommend getting one with a gravy as the schnitzel on its own can be dry. The pretzel and wurste are always a crowd pleaser and come with 3 types of mustards. They have a variety of "nights" throughout the week -- trivia, bingo, live music, etc. if you're into that sort of thing.

Service We came here on a Friday night. They had a live band and the spot was full. There's a bar flanking one side of the restaurant and dining tables on the other side. Service was reliable, friendly and good. Only caveat is it can get pretty loud while the band is playing but that's also something that draws people in. Food We ordered a couple of apps - both were awesome. The potato pancakes were large, piping hot and perfect. We also ordered a small order of perogies. Yum! For mains we got the Schnitzel a la Holstein and Leberkse Mit Spiegelei. We liked the schnitzel more but both dishes were good! Overall Class joint, with good food. Only draw back they were cash only

Nice German restaurant in Bay Ridge. My friend had bratwurst with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes which he said was good. I enjoyed the steak salad. Beware, it has lots of dressing. I'd get it again but with the dressing on the side. Tasty. Good service also.

I got their pork schnitzel with creamy mushroom sauce and I was soooo happy with it. If you love mushroom I recommend this dish. It comes with a lot of mushroom, like you can cut a piece of pork and have a mushroom with it that how much mushroom it comes with it. Their schnitzel comes with a side of potato with bacon bits and salad. There are many dressing you can pick. If you want to try something different get their warm bacon. (For those who like bacon)

Have come here multiple times since we moved to bay ridge even when it was dining outdoors only. Their food is delicious and it's always popping. Also they have live bands which is great. Brooklyn Bards was playing tonight. They have a good variety of draft German beers. Also, have had the fresh fruit summer sangria multiple times and it's delicious. I decided to come here for restaurant week 2022. They were super busy so I will give them some leeway so it was pretty hard to get any service for a drink or more water but wow, we also waited more than an hour for appetizers. Also, they were out of a lot of items. The sausage teller was very good and apple strudel was absolutely delicious. The dessert was hot and flakey and I don't even usually like desserts, yum! This visit started out slow but ended great. Service was great at the end. Only took 20 minutes to get our entrees and no time for our dessert. I think the lesson I learned is to come early or come late. Note: They were cash only so be prepared!

I'll give them full 10 stars, not only for their hospitality but also for absolutely tasty food. Simple but delicious. Friendly atmosphere, authentic decor makes you visit very much happier . Thank you guys for serving us. Definitely will be back soon.

    PILZE FÖRSTERIN ART

We visited this restaurant the day after, as we were forgetful, and left our backpack. Olivia, the bartender and waitress, from the night before, was nice enough to safely store our bag. We were overjoyed as the restaurant had a live band playing oldie songs at 7pm. We had the pleasure of having , Amber and a young lad, served us with smiles and such politeness. Looking at the menu, there was a variety of things to try. We started our dinner with PILZE FÖRSTERIN ART. This was a mushroom appetizer to die for. It was absolutely amazing! Mouthwatering, and so flavorful with every bite. Making sure we had room to try a dessert, we decided to order a light dinner, and shared the LEBERKÄS MIT SPIEGELEI as our entree. This is a pork and veal loaf with two fried eggs on top. It came with mash potatoes, but the waitress so graciously allowed us to substitute with the German Potato salad. The eggs were perfect to our liking, but the loaf was a bit salty, but still good. The potato salad was also good. The entree was a nice size portion. We ordered the Black Forest cake, and thought it was okay. For us, it was not moist enough. We're looking forward to returning as our two consecutive visits were very nice.

This is the BEST German food I've had in South Florida...and anywhere in America! The service is equally outstanding! The ambiance is sophisticated without being stuffy. They have managed to make a restaurant in an every day strip mall feel cozy and comfortable with a good level of elegance. It's no Biergarten. It's a proper restaurant. Our server was great. She did mishear my boyfriend when he made his entree order, but he was fine with it because the entree she brought was just as tasty and it gave us ANOTHER reason to go back!! The sauerbraten was amazing, along with the beer, the bread pudding, the meatball, blackened shrimp...everything is fresh, authentic and beautifully presented.

Are they still exercising their free speech right to display Trump's photo, after that controversy a few years back? I have wanted to try this place, but if they still post it, fine, I will exercise my right to dine elsewhere.

That picture was not political in any form. It was given to us by Mr. Trump 20 years ago when we opened the restaurant wishing us good luck. It was vandalized and not replaced many years ago.

    Do they serve red wine?

    Yes.

As someone who has come to this bar regularly to watch Knicks playoff games, I can confidently say…read moreI will never return after what happened during the NBA Finals last night. What this bar pulled was completely unacceptable. They were openly reserving seats at the bar for certain people while telling everyone else they were unavailable. There was no advertised reservation policy, no advance notice, and no opportunity offered to regular customers. Apparently, the only way to get a seat is to know the owner, know the bartenders, or be part of the inner circle. What made it even worse was that my group had been sitting at the bar, ordering food and drinks starting around 7:30 PM, only to be forced out of our seats at 7:45 PM. The reservation signs on those seats clearly stated they were reserved for 8:15 PM. We were paying customers actively spending money, yet we were removed 30 minutes before the supposed reservation time. That is absolutely egregious behavior. I've worked in sports bars and have owned sports bars in New York City. In all my years in the business, I have never heard of reserving seats directly at the bar--especially during a major sporting event. It goes against everything that makes a sports bar successful. Bar seats have always been first-come, first-served. That's Sports Bar 101. I've spent plenty of money here over the years because it was always a great place to watch big games: good atmosphere, sound on the TVs, and a fun crowd. Unfortunately, last night proved that customer loyalty means absolutely nothing. Regular patrons were treated like second-class citizens while preferred customers received special treatment. For a bar that markets itself as a neighborhood sports destination, this was incredibly disappointing, unprofessional, and frankly insulting. If you're planning to watch a major game here, don't assume you'll be treated fairly. Unless you're friends with the right people, don't expect the same experience as everyone else. There are plenty of other sports bars in Brooklyn that understand how to treat customers. After last night, I'll be spending my money there instead. I won't be back, and I certainly won't be recommending this place to anyone. Let's Go Knicks
