Who knew? There is an authentic schnitzel haus cleverly hidden in the Fish Hawk Marina area of St. Thomas. A 10 minute drive from Charlotte Amalie puts you at the Schnitzel Haus and hopefully, you will have brought your appetite along for the ride. First glances won't impress here, but don't let that pre-condition you for the evening. I ordered the Wiener Schnitzel with red cabbage and potatoes, a fairly classic German meal, and was pleasantly surprised at how authentic everything tasted. Having spent some time in Germany I wasn't expecting anything that close to the real thing! I also happened to be dining with a co-worker from Geneva who told our waiter at the end of the evening that his schnitzel was as good as any he had ever had at home. Quite a compliment. There is also a good selection of imported German beers which are a great pairing for any of their menu items. Also, don't miss the appetizers like the sausage, which was stellar. If you're on the island and are looking for somewhere to eat that's a little out of the ordinary for the locale, don't miss this place. read more

BEST Schnitzel I've had since leaving Germany 6 years ago!! That actually says a lot, because I am a born and raised German - so I am very picky when it comes to German food and especially Schnitzel and Red Cabbage I tried my fair share of German eateries all over the US, and none of the places can live up to this. Petra is the real deal! I came here a few weeks ago with my best friend who moved to St. Thomas a few months ago. Petra is super sweet and an excellent cook. I had my favorite - Jaegerschnitzel with Red Cabbage and Bratkartoffeln. OMG, it was delicious!!! Almost as good as my grandma used to make it, and if that is not a compliment, I don't know what is. read more

Do not let the outside fool you! The food is amazing here and it was so great to see Petra cooking again. My husband loves the Wiener Schnitzel with a double side of potatoes. I love the Pepper Schnitzel with red cabbage and vegetables. The food is very reasonably priced, which is a great break in St. Thomas. We will definitely be back when we go to St. Thomas again next month. read more

Tonight was our second time eating at the Schnitzel Haus. The food was again excellent. Petra makes every meal from scratch and the flavors she creates are worth the wait. The veal is hand sliced to perfection, the red cabbage the best we have ever tasted and the apple strudel perfect. What a gem to discover. read more
