What a great place for a family dinner in St. Thomas USVI. Must try the chicken parmigiana. Great atmosphere.

The ambience of this restaurant is lovely, with beautiful paintings on the walls that are actually for sale--definitely a treat for art lovers. The space is quite small, so I'd strongly recommend making a reservation. Service was extremely slow, so I wouldn't suggest coming if you're starving. The plates are generously portioned, though the prices are a bit on the higher side. The garlic bread was a standout--absolutely loved it. A few items we ordered didn't arrive, yet we were still charged. They said splitting the bill was possible, but they charged three cards and the amounts were inconsistent. On the positive side, the banana foster and chicken Alfredo were both delicious. They also offer a fresh Caesar salad made right in front of you, which I tried but didn't particularly enjoy. Overall, it's worth checking out, but just be mindful that the area can lose power frequently as well. read more

They have everyone help everyone, so no one really knows who has been helped or what course they are on. Much smaller than what I expected the place to be. What a treasure! From the outside you would never guess that this restaurant would be so famous. Quite an upscale atmosphere with very interesting artwork all over the place. The service was so slow and terrible. They only filled our water 2 times and they were very small glasses. We got the bread 2 minutes before we got our food. Outstanding gem in St Thomas! Originally hadn't thought about Italian cuisine when on an island with lots of seafood options, but Virgilio's is "not to miss"! We were a group of 6 celebrating a birthday, having made reservations on the same day. Restaurant is set in an old building Downtown and has very eclectic artwork adorning the walls. Each of us ordered appetizers, a different main course and two desserts to share. Not one complaint! Food your Italian Grandmother would make. You could taste the home cooking in everything. From the outside, Virgilio's is very unassuming on a quiet side street off one of the main shopping streets in town. Inside, the high ceilings and extensive artwork make it feel like you have stepped into a mystical cavern. It is overall a small restaurant, and there were people waiting when we left; reservations recommended. The staff is very friendly, warm and attentive. The menu is extensive with Italian classics like lasagna and veal/chicken parmesan. We had a Geek salad, salmon in dijon sauce and a sea-bass special in butter and garlic. Everything was delicious. The pasta on the side was a surprisingly good complement to our main course. I am always happy when I can get cheesecake for dessert. We were told by numerous people while in St. Thomas, we must try Virgillio's, and that it will be the best Italian food we've ever eaten. Well, it was ok. First, the restaurant is small and ecclectic, which we love. The artwork is an amazing collection of stained glass, reproductions and some original local artists' works. The place fills up quickly and reservations are a must. Dinner service started out strong. Our server, Matthew was nice and welcoming while seating us and then I am not sure what happened, he completely changed once handing us our menus. His personality was non-existent and when he told us about the special, he did so as he was walking by, didn't even stop. He took our order and that was the last we ever saw of him until it was time for the check. The food was ok, flavorful, well portioned but certainly not the best. The Caesar salad for two was the highlight of the evening since they make it dressing and salad table side which is kitch. We have the Minestrone and Straccitatia (spinach and cheese) soup. Both were bland but the presentation of the soup again was the show stopper. They serve the soup to you straight from the pot they cook it in. The entrees were interesting. We the manicotti which was sloppy and missing cheese, lasagne which was again missing cheese and only three layers, and the fettuccine carbonara which was flavor less and forgettable. Finally it was time for dessert. We had the crème brûlée, cheesecake and Tiramisu. Cheesecake was good, crème brûlé was burnt to the point of being inedible and the Tiramisu had too much cinnamon and was unlike any other tiramisu I have ever eaten in my entire life. Overall, i was not impressed with Virgillios. The food was ok. The dining room was awesome and probably the best part of the evening. The service was strange and not welcoming at all. We acTully could not wait to leave. They also charge automatic gratuity of 20% and a credit card usage fee. When We come back to the island I think we would try it again but then again, I would not be upset if we didn't. read more

One of the worst dining experiences we have had. Service was horrendous. Took 15 minute for our waitress to come by and all she said was ready. Next time we saw her was an hour later when I had to flag her down to order desert and she seemed put out to tell us the choices. Had our water refilled once over 1 hour and 15 minutes. Food was average. WIFI was down so it was cash only which despite having a reservation and our phone # didn't find out until we were there. Virgilio's was recommended to me by hotel staff and locals. Before looking at the menu online, I had a feeling that the food would be at an astronomical price and it was! When I arrived, I was seated immediately by an older gentleman. Then, it took about ten minutes for someone to take my order (I didn't know if the older gentleman was my waiter or not). A lady ended up being my waitress and she was not pleasant nor very attentive. It seemed to me that because I was not ordering copious amounts of wine and dishes, she was not going to provide the best service to me which is unfair. She walked past my table several times to serve other guests and check on them, but would not do the same for me. Then, when I received my meal, it was definitely not worth the $30+ I paid. I understand that the food is freshly made, but I don't think that a pasta dish with cream sauce and four long pieces of broccoli is worth $30+. It didn't even come with a salad or a protein! The cream sauce was pretty good, though. I will say this--Virgilio's is a beautiful and unique restaurant (I loved the artwork), but it was very overpriced and they need to work on customer service. read more

On the first night of my honeymoon, I arrived at 6:50 for my 7:00 reservation I made a month ago. Not only were we not seated for 40 minutes after checking in, but we witnessed multiple people without reservations in both small and large parties get seated before us. Mind you, we were well-dressed and patient the entire duration. There wasn't a single time they said "sorry" or offered some kind of compensation. When we were eventually seated, our waiter disappeared and it took over an hour to receive any food. There were 3 different servers who came to our table 3 individual times over the course of our 2 and a half hours there. Lastly, we witnessed multiple people who were dissatisfied with their meals and return them after taking a single bite. Horrible service, overrated food, and a scam $25 gratuity fee. read more

Another unforgettable night on our Caribbean vacation in enchanting, St Thomas. This is our first visit to the island, and with only 2 nights out remaining before heading for home in CT, we were grateful for the "favorite places" list, detailed by our hosts at the Regatta Villas at Bolongo Bay. From the brief write-up, Virgilio's sounded perfect. Virgilio's is a rare gem! Easy to find with a sign for delivery and pick-up on one corner, and a stone staircase on the other, we stepped into an intimate, inviting, art cultured, Italian bistro (not sure if that's accurate, but that's what comes to mind), restaurant with refined service, and fine dining of chef-prepared food choices. A full bar to serve whatever you're in the mood to create, and the offer of help to create just the right beginning; inizio! Shout out to Lola and the 4 or more friendly staff, who waited on us, beginning with a basket of warm, crusty bread and sparkling water (our selection). Our drinks: pina collada for the gentleman, and a coconut lime mocktail, for the lady. Our meal began with an ample Caesar salad with fresh greens, and just the right amount of dressing to give the croutons a soft crunch. We said yes to the freshly grated cheese and freshly cracked pepper, before diving in. The addition of 3 medium, fresh shrimp tail-on, was perfect to calm our appetites while we took in the beautiful oill paintings that covered every wall, intentionally arranged. We switched seats just before our entrees arrived. It was the natural thing to do - And my husband said simply, oh wow. Our plates were served with warmth and skill - and we said yes please to more fresh grated cheese, and cracked pepper. Entree one - chicken puttanesca with fresh tomatoes, Kalamata olives, and a hint of red pepper for the gentleman. And for the lady, cappellini with smoked salmon in a cream sauce. Delicious and portions big enough for bringing home an easy lunch to warm up, tomorrow. The ambience of the oil paintings of true to life portraits and beautiful forms make me think of the olden days... slower times..., "screenshots" from a world gone by. These works of art are for sale! Even the art in the short hallway to the clean and spacious restroom, is an art display in ever-changing form. To complement the perfect meal, "yes" we left room for dessert! One for here, the other to go. We were impressed by my favorite dessert, , crème brule. The crunchy top on the creamy custard, was perfection. Yummy! We took a Flan dessert to enjoy later. We found on-street parking after a drive around a block or two, but many are enjoying the local scene on foot, (cruise ship passengers). So, another shout out for Lola. Alberto, the mixologist, was great and very entertaining. They have been in business for a long time. We had a variety of foods for our dinners, and all came out perfect. The two veal dishes were tough, hard to cut and chew. The Tutu Mare seafood was overcooked and the sauce had no flavor. The ravioli special was just okay, nothing special. We thought the prices too high for the quality and portion sizes. The service was odd. Different people kept helping us. After the food was brought out, no one checked on us to refill water or ask about wine refills. The restaurant is small and the tables are packed in close. The two tables next to us didn't know each other and proceeded to holler back and forth for 20 minutes. Not the restaurant's fault but that was the final straw that helped us decide to order dessert to go. We had to go look for someone to take our dessert order and ask for a check. The tiramisu and cheesecake were just average. Heads up, they include a service fee for a table of four. Tip accordingly knowing they already tack on 25%. This was overall the BEST experience I have had on the island. If I could give Virgilio's more than 5 stars I would! With that being said, I came here for a nice dinner out with friends and family while on vacation. Make sure to make a reservation here especially on the weekends because it does get busy. I don't do this often but I need to rave about how amazing Lola was with our group Friday night. She was so bubbly and upbeat. The bartender was also great and we really enjoyed talking with him. For our dining experience, you begin with a choice of bottled flat or sparkling water and given a complimentary basket of homemade garlic breA few of us had wine, I chose the Prosecco, and the men had beers. The menu is a nice size with so many enticing options to choose from. Within my group we ordered a Lasagna, Calamari Siciliani, Penne Con Broccoli e Formaggi, and one who got a lucky surprise with his meal. My dad asked Lola which she would recommend between the Linguini Pesto and the Carbonara, she offered to surprise him, and as amazing as she is she gave him half and half for his meal!! So awesome! I ordered the Fettuccine with shrimp and scallops and opted to make it primavera style (adding veggies) and it was mind blowing! The flavors were all so complimentary. The white wine sauce was light and creamy and both the shrimp and scallops were cooked perfectly. Everyone really enjoyed their meals, we all joined the clean plate club. We didn't choose to have desert per-say, but a couple of us had espresso martinis and one cappuccino. Our espresso martinis were shaken, poured, and garnished directly at our table. It was really fun to watch. Like I said before Virgillo's was an experience to remember. I have been going to St. Thomas for many years and I had always wanted to try Virgillio's. First of all.... It's a very charming. Loved the ambiance. The servers and staff were very friendly and attentive. Now for the review. My girlfriend and I both split the Insalata Greco which was delicious. Very fresh. For my main coarse, I had the roasted lamb with Alfredo which was very good. A lot of food. So come hungry. My girlfriend had the osso bucco which she thoroughly enjoyed. For dessert we shared the tiramisu which was pretty good. The nice thing about Virgillio's is that the menu is very extensive. A lot to choices. I highly recommend reservations because it can get busy. Parking is a pain but you can find some spaces. All in all.... I enjoyed Virgillio's. It's a fun place. read more

Hot bread served before dinner which was good (no oil or Parmesan though). Ambience was beautiful with some vibrant art pieces on the walls. Their homemade sauce was awesome! To me this was a highlight. The veal on my veal Parmesan was cooked perfectly but under seasoned and the meat itself was sort of tough to chew. Everyone else seemed to enjoy what they had. Would give it another try for sure. Not cheap, so if u are looking for perfection based on the price we didn't necessarily find it the first time around in terms of execution with food.
