This is my second review after the first was removed when the business owner wrote demonstrating his unhappiness at being badly reviewed on a platform meant to allow consumers to express their opinions about places and products. I'm not writing this review to smear a company. I'm writing it because I benefit from the products of that company and I am, frankly, unimpressed. Moreover, I am unimpressed with how the business owner handled my complaints, and I will expand on this below. My language in this critique will be harsher than before since in my first critique I only had to account for the 'bad taste' from School Foodies food and not for that of the business owner's approach to open, democratic online reviews. About the food: -It is at best mediocre, lacking in quality and portion size, and is most remarkable for its visually unappetizing quality. Depending on the dish I might call the food soggy, rubbery, tasteless, and/or offensive to the palate. Accompaniments to main dishes, which are already meager, might include a sole, sad celery stick or two, or some very inspiring high-fructose syrup ketchup. In a word, the food is dreadful, but at least it's in compostable containers-- first of their kind, the owner is quick to say (maybe those containers taste good?). What's more, according to the business owner, this food was meant for kids, so I don't have a right to assess it as an adult. Apparently, "[o]ur service & menu is not intended for adults. If we are going to get negative reviews because faculty are displeased I may need to rethink serving them." I took down my earlier review due to this unprofessional threat. I find it hard to believe kids enjoy this food, but will accept that their relatively undistinguished palates are fine with it, given that we all need sustenance and anything will do when there's no other option. But I also think that, as an adult who works with kids and appreciates them and their parents, it's important for people to know what their kids are eating. Of course, cost is a question, and good food is a privilege. The $5 that these lunches cost gets you what you'd expect for $5 (see description above). I would encourage parents to try the food and see for themselves, lest--as the business owner suggests-- their advanced age mislead them in assessing the meal's (lack of) quality. I would also encourage parents to assess the food not only according to taste, but also to portion size. Teenagers need just about as many calories as adults, especially if they are active, and I think we can agree that the teenage life is generally a replete one. As an adult, I would treat a School Foodie portion as a snack-and-a-third or snack-and-a-half, but not by any means as a substantial meal for a teenager or adult. The business owner asked me to soften or revise my review, but I am not so inclined because I'd like to express what I find to be true about the food. And I know it hits a business hard to receive a bad review, but if the owner is truly interested in improvement and feedback (as he expressed in his letter), then he wouldn't offer empty platitudes like "I am very respectful of your views" alongside a threat to have his company's service retracted due to a negative review. read more

Presidio knolls schools selected school foodies as their hot lunch provider because of their wide selection of meals and ability to customize. As a parent, the meals they prepare are fresh, they give large portions and the prices are great! They have attentive costumer service and respond to emails and phone calls. Brad helped me set up and account and place my first lunch order. My daughter begged me to order the mac and cheese and chocolate milk that she saw the other kids had. I was happy to see that they serve mac and cheese weekly and provide seasonal fruit and veggies along with the meal. My daughter just had her first week of meals from School Foodies delivered to her school, and she has given them rave reviews. She actually brought her uneaten portion home today and her sandwich looked very nicely put together, with plenty of extra accompaniments. I'd have eaten it gladly if it was my lunch! Pros: * Very easy and convenient online ordering/payment * Tons of choices, plus many different ways to customize your child's meal (substitute whole wheat pasta, dressing on the size, omit ingredients, add extra ingredients, etc) for a small fee * Many healthy choices. All meals come with fruit and/or veggies * A good amount of variety so your child won't end up eating the same 5 meals over and over again * Saves a ton of time in the morning, plus no more worrying about how to keep hot foods hot and cold foods cold * No minimum commitment - order just the meals you want, skip whatever days you want * Two portion sizes - regular and large * Not every kid has to eat the same lunch Cons: * Can get a bit pricey with add-ons and snacks. I pack snacks for her because it's a lot cheaper * Not quite as much meal rotation as I would like - quite a few repeats, but not worth complaining about, really. We just moved up here to the Bay Area about 9 months ago, and our 5 year old son's school uses School Foodies as an alternative to packed lunches. The fun thing is, that you also have the option of using this service on an as-needed basis. Well for our son, nothing was so cool as the idea of getting a packaged hot lunch from School Foodies. So we used them as a reward. Every five stars earned for awesome behavior or goals met, he'd get a treat - often times this was a hot lunch. He would wake up in the morning THRILLED that today he was going to get a School Foodies lunch. So of course this made us really like the company, but what made us LOVE them, was the incredibly reasonable prices and the super-nice staff every single time we've called to order. This is a long review, and I haven't even mentioned the healthy (and even grass-fed/organic!) options they have. I really can't say enough good stuff about this operation, honestly. Our schools just changed lunch provider to SchoolFoodies and it's absolutely terrible!!! Choices, taste... my child said it's impossible to eat and often the choices are very limited. We were ordering hot lunch for past 5 years from other providers but it looks like this year we will have to start packing lunch from home. read more

School foodies is the new lunch program at my daughters school in San Francisco they switched from choice lunch, which was the wrong choice. School foodies has a poor selection of food choices. They charge extra for snacks and drinks unlike choice food which included all those things and let the children chose theirs snacks and drinks when they physically picked their lunch up. They have a poorly set up app to order food, and if not ordered before the school week the late option for the whole week is the same pasta for the child to eat everyday. Choice lunch had Jambi juice Wednesday which my child looked forward to every week. The quality and taste of the food is not any different then sending your child to school with frozen microwaved food. I hope school foodie improves the taste and quality of their food, prices that include snacks and drinks , and improves the ability for better food options during the week and better late order lunch options. read more
