I've been seeing Dr. Pomerantz since 2008. He caught an early stage melanoma that was taken off and now I see him twice a year for a full body check. He's professional and has successfully taken care of other minor issues as well. There's only been a couple of times when the wait was more than 30mins, but maybe that's because I schedule my appointments as early as they allow. The waiting room is colorful but it's not organized well for the amount of patients. The building itself is old school 80's and you need a key to use the bathroom, plus cell service is basically non-existent, so those are the downers. read more

It is not surprising that is dermatology office has so many *one-star reviews. Although my experience with the practitioner that I see there, Kathryn has been wonderful, the office and management has been abysmal. They never-ever pick up the phone or return phone calls. Should you have a procedure there, for example a biopsy, don't expect them to send you the results. You will have to chase down the diagnosis yourself. If and when you get the results, you'll have to try to figure out the medical jargon and decide for yourself if you need to go back in for further analysis or treatment. In this day and age, this kind of medical protocol and behavior is absolutely iniquitous. Do yourself a favor and find another dermatology office. Good luck finding any competent and ethical practitioners in R.I.! read more

Where to begin? Oh with the absolutely disgusting, intolerable, inept, condescending and frankly borderline abusive treatment you can expect to received from a place dancing on the edge of a negligence lawsuit. I was referred here by an Specialist at the Miriam as Brown Dermatology as booked out. They even stated they hate sending people to this facility and now I know why. Not only did they not even bother to read the case sent over with the referral, the 3 differential diag on it, the history and numerous explainations from the provider referring as to what was going on, past treatments and further guidance. The witch of a "Doctor" (Even though she is a PA) continuously talked over me, dismissed me mid sentence and then just walked out of the room. I know reading comprehension is at an all time low in America but the only thing I can imagine she has read was the cover of a Cosmo Magazine in 1998 and it looks like she only maybe got 50% of the way through before giving up. I was in shock, my provider, also in shock and disgusted, negligent behavior and willfull ignorance is the common place here I guess. Imagine being talked over and down to like you are a child when you are ALSO in the medical field and working in rare, progressive, degenerative disease statees by some bleached out oxygen theif patting herself on the back while smiling her shit eating grin at you the enitre 10 minuets. Now imagine 3 things discussed are listed on the report after when 2 of those things were never discussed, gotta pad those numbers I guess, justify why you fly in on a broom every day to shit on people for money right? Now lts also imagine you are leaving the room after you have just been ditched by the vapid wretch of a provider and you hear her and 2 underlings in training laughing and making fun of some other patient in the MIDDLE OF THE HALLWAY of the practice. Good to know HIPAA doesnt apply here and we can all just shout eachothers information and mock people who come to see you because clearly, if they are repeat patients, they must have something SEVERELY wrong or crave the abuse and it may just be cheaper and effective for them to come here rather than got to Foxy Lady. Thankfully I am being seen now by a competent provider who litterally gasped at this interaction and the documentation. Even apologized to me though they did nothing wrong, thats how abysmal my experience was. Imagine. Disgusted to my core, I never thought such flagrant disregard would fester in this cesspool of an office but here we are, 2023, a dumpster still beating out care from School Street Dermatology. Lord Jesus this place is a mess! Every single time I have come to this place I always wait at least 45 minutes after my scheduled appointment time to be seen. The waiting room area is always beyond packed , and it's just very unorganized. Who is making the appointments because this place is an absolute zoo! Even the way to check in is nuts , no kind of order basically just stand there until someone pays you attention. Dr.Wray is very great , the only reason why I keep coming back. He knows his stuff and he sincerely cares. He's a great doctor. But otherwise I can't stand this place and the parking is horrible ! read more

I have not had the issues of scheduling that were noted in some other reviews. Dr. Pomerantz is great and very professional! The building setup is not my favorite and that you have to hunt down the restroom but can only go in with a desk key and parking has increasingly worsened over my years there. I tried to get an appointment thru there website twice with no call back, then I tried calling twice with no answer leaving two messages giving name, phone number, date of birth and when I was looking for an appointment, when I finally got thru to the on the fifth try the girl was rude impatient and short and didn't have any of the information that I had left on there voicemail or chat live on there website, what's the point of a voicemail or chat live if they don't use any of that information? I used to see Dr. Toback in early 2000, who Is really good. A couple previous Dermatologist in Boston and Warwick RI told me I needed several biopsies and after a second opinion Dr. Toback whom told me he did not think it was necessary. He was right. 20 years later no change in my moles. I had a few recent concerns that my physician recommended me to see a dermatologist and I'm very busy so I couldn't see Dr. Toback in my busy schedule but had the pleasure of meeting with Stefanie. She was very nice and helpful. She did one freeze and answered all my questions. I felt so much better. I strongly recommend Stefanie as well. It seems this office is very honest and carefully looks you over and not there to just say we need to do biopsies within seconds of a glance. read more

Checked in for my appointment, sat and waited. After twenty minutes of watching patients come and go, I inquired as to how much longer. Ten minutes, I was told. After fifteen minutes, I inquired again and was told that there was an emergency? Confused, I was told that if anyone comes in for a full body scan and they find something, then it's an emergency??? Still confused as to why I had to inquire, I asked why NO ONE CAME TO WARN ME ABOUT THE VERY LONG WAIT TIME. If I was late, I would have been asked to reschedule. Very unprofessional. read more

I go here annually for my check up as everyone really should, especially the sun lovers. This is located in a medical building in Pawtucket and I always get the 1st appointment which is at 7 o'clock in the morning. I drive there through Providence and am seen immediately and then drive back through Providence without ever hitting traffic. I love that. I also like my doctor and the staff there. This time that I went they had all new decorations such as paint and beautiful artwork on the wall. I didn't really get to enjoy it much because they called my name immediately and I was seen immediately. I really do love that and I love that it's all good news and I get to go home and not go back for another year read more

I'm updating my review to knock off 2 stars for the practice and their scheduling issues, NOT the Physicians Assistant who I am very impressed with, Mr Wray. The practice probably triple books and the past 2 times I've gone I've waited 45 minutes to see the PA. He was very apologetic and it is certainly not his fault, but that of the practice managers who are overbooking their staff. Don't make an appointment unless you can afford to be at least an hour late. If they fix the scheduling issue they would definitely earn 5 stars. That said, if William Wray started his own practice, I would leave School Street in a heartbeat because his care is the only reason I'll sit in a waiting room full of angry patients for an hour. read more

I have been going to school st dermatologists for a long time. I staff there are always very professional. I suffer from alopecia. Getting cortisone shots in your head isn't a joyful thing. The Dr.'s there are very gentle and I appreciate that. They also get results. I am going through one of these alopecia problems, pandemic/being a Chef..it's caused by stress. I absolutely adore the care i received from Annette Fonteneau NP and the caring staff. On my last visit I was disappointed to Learn she was no longer with the practice. Like literally every review here, I will also say that waiting one hour past my appointment time, every single time, for 3+ years now, is unacceptable. I should not have to take the day off from work to have a 5 minute doctors appointment. I've been seeing Annette for about 3 years now. She is a gem. But now that I've moved to East Greenwich, I will not drive 40 minutes each way, to be kept waiting for an hour, for a 5 minute appointment, that takes me 3 hours to complete. Every. Single. Time. This morning I went to Dermatology Professionals in East Greenwich. I waited for 3 minutes. In and out in 10 minutes total. You should go there instead. It'll still be faster, even with the drive to East Greenwich. It's a shame because the doctors here are great- I don't know why they don't respect the patients time. That office waited 5 months to inform us that Doctor Wray had left. Two weeks before our appointments, this office called to reschedule. My husband had already requested his appointment date off because we know that they are NEVER on time. Now does he lose a days pay to take the date they give us or do we find another doctor. I went to see Maeve Tobin at School Street Dermatology in Providence RI. for sun damage on my face and chest. She was very pleasant and accommodating. Maeve took the time to listen to my concerns. She proceeded to give me a laser treatment that dramatically decreased the redness and raised bumps on my chest and face. Maeve was wonderful. If I could put zero stars I would. I have been to 6 Doctors / dentists appointments for myself and children. We showed 1 an hour early to each one and waited no more than 10 minutes. I have an appointment for myself and showed only 1/2 an hour early and watched people come in and get called in within minutes. I have now been sitting here 50 minutes waiting. When I asked, I was told that my appointment was not until 2:00. If you notice the time I am posting now is 20 minutes passed my appointment and I am still not being called in. read more

I'm usually too lazy to Yelp places, but because I've had such a pleasant experience with this place and it has no other reviews, I figure I ought to... So, anyways, I just moved to Providence for school and was in desperate need of a good dermatologist. I am located on College Hill, so I initially was looking for derms in downtown Providence or on the Hill. That turned out to be a total lost cause... seemingly, all the highly rated derms in Providence either do not accept new patients or have recently passed away. (No joke; I hopelessly researched and called all of them for a matter of hours.) Finally, after about two hours of research and panic (I had a skin issue I needed addressed urgently), I found a link to School St Dermatology. There was no Yelp review of the office at that point (as this is the first), so naturally I was skeptical. I called and made an appointment for the next day with the Physician's Assistant (as the doctor was booked up for the next few days), which made me yet even more weary. On top of everything, Pawtucket is a 15-minute drive from my school, which I wasn't extremely thrilled about (as I don't have my car out here). I was desperate, though, so I figured I had nothing to lose and decided to arrange an appointment for the following morning. The next morning I hopped in a cab and 15 minutes later arrived at the office, where I was greeted by a seemingly stern receptionist. I was very reluctant to even fill out all the paperwork, as the office seemed small, a bit unfriendly, and the surrounding area (Pawtucket) wasn't the nicest. I showed the receptionist my insurance card and driver's license, upon which she told me that I could not be seen because I had told her the wrong insurance over the phone the day before. Dr. Wray overheard the conversation about our miscommunication and told her he would see me that day free of charge, since I had come all the way there. I was extremely relieved at that point. Turns out, my insurance carrier does not cover visits to the physician's assistant (Dr. Wray), but it does cover visits to the primary doctor (Dr. Pomerantz). To avoid confusion, they both work for the same practice and are located in the same building, just in different suites. Anyways, after the morning rush of people (not sure what was going on) had cleared out, my miscommunication had been resolved, and my paperwork was completed, I was able to chat briefly with the receptionist. By that time she had warmed up and I felt much more comfortable. Then I saw the doctor (technically physician's assistant), Dr. Wray. He was extremely warm and understanding of my needs. I essentially told him I wanted to be prescribed a very strong drug (Accutane) for my skin needs during this first visit, reciting all the old topical creams that had failed me in years past, and he agreed to start me off with a moderate dose of Accutane. For anyone who might not know, this is unheard of! Generally, it is like pulling teeth to get a dermatologist to prescribe Accutane, so this was quite exciting. Now this is not to say that he acted carelessly in prescribing me the drug, but rather that he listened to me and respected my wishes to go on the drug again. (I've already been on twice, so I didn't care to waste my time with alternatives that I knew wouldn't work for me, and he respected that.) I got my blood tested that same day and by the next day (after the lab work had processed) I came back to the office and the doctor gave me a written prescription to take to the pharmacy. Due to a hectic schedule that next day, as I was flying home, I could only pick up the prescription during the office's lunch hours. I called ahead and they just told me to knock on the office doors during the lunch break and Dr. Wray would give me my prescription then. I arrived when the office doors were locked and knocked a few times, as instructed, and Dr. Wray himself opened the door and handed me the script and wished me off. Incredible customer service if you ask me!! Especially for a doctor's office!!!! My second visit was no less wonderful. This time, however, I saw Dr. Pomerantz. (I had to switch doctors due to the insurance coverage problem I mentioned earlier.) Pomerantz is the primary derm of the practice. He was equally wonderful and understanding of my needs. He did not argue with my requests; he, too, was very warm and made me feel at ease. I sensed that he had a lot of experience in the field. He also mentioned that he had a few skin issues when he was younger as well, so I felt like he truly understood what I am going through. That was probably the longest review I've ever written. But, in sum, I must say that I have only ever been impressed by this office. Do not be put off by the fact that it is in Pawtucket or that the office may seem a little small. The doctors and staff here are phenomenal (albeit perhaps a little cranky before 9:00 AM, though so am I!). Love love love! read more

They were able to set me up with an appointment much sooner than other dermatologists in the area (by a month!) and offer evening appointments. Annette Fontaneau is very friendly and offered great advice, plus prescribed me with some stuff that is really doing the trick. Such a relief! My reason for the missing star in my rave review, however, is that both times I met with her I had to wait 30-45 minutes after my appointment time. Maybe because they were evening appointments and earlier appointments caused the schedule to get backed up, but still, it can be frustrating. read more

I do not usually write reviews, but this was not a good experience. 1. I waited almost an hour for my appointment. 2. When I finally saw the doctor, Dr. Driskill, she was rude, condescending, and made a very inappropriate joke that had me so stunned it took about an hour after I left the office for it to fully sink in. 3. The doctor had not heard of some very common skincare brands that I use, including Kiehl's and Derma E. 4. The office staff, too, was condescending, and while I was in the waiting room, I witnessed a scheduling error that resulted in a patient coming into the office only to find that the doctor wasn't in and wouldn't have an opening for 6 weeks. To make matters worse, this patient was not a native speaker of English, and instead of being understanding of this patient's confusion (due, it seemed, to a language barrier), the receptionist did not try to explain the situation in different terms, and instead assumed an extremely rude and borderline mean attitude towards this patient. I am not returning the this doctor or this office. read more

As much as I do not love the area or the building this office is located in, the staff is always friendly, and will do their best to accommodate you. Most times I call I can get in right away and if I can't I have been known to call back to see if there are any new openings. Bill Wray, the Physician Assistant has been very helpful and a great listener. I will be returning to the office again this month for a Microderm Abrasian treatment and will write a new update! :) read more
