Loved every thing about Schoolhouse! Great flavor options, excellent service, and charming location. I was unsure of what I wanted and the two girls working were wonderful, very friendly and knowledgeable about flavors. They offered samples of every thing and helped in the decision making process. The inside of the store was so cute. It has that classic coastal town ice cream ship interior that you can't help but feel nostalgic over. I ordered the waffle cone in a kiddie and couldn't choose between flavors but I went with the strawberry and (I can't remember the name) Chocolate with cookie dough and brownie pieces and it was AMAZING. I can be picky about these homemade ice creams, and sometimes find that they aren't as fresh as advertised, but Schoolhouse may just be my favorite on Cape. Excited to go back soon! read more

Schoolhouse ice cream is my favorite on the Cape and tonight I had a very poor experience. According to the website the shop closes at 10 pm. We walked up to the window at 9:20 and were yelled at by the girl working saying "we are closed. We closed 20 minutes ago." as she was serving another party through the window. There was also 15+ people sitting at the picnic tables all staring at us appalled at how we were spoken to. I understand our changing due to summer staffing, but there is no need to be rude when you were trying to close, especially if you were serving other customers while yelling at me. Oh my gosh - could this place be any cuter? I'm not sure how their 'smallest' is at least 2 scoops of ice cream, but hey, we were on vacation! The Schoolhouse was on my must do list in the Cape. So I had to come. The outside of the building is very nice. It has a sit down inside and some tables and benches outside. It had a lot of lights and wind chimes which made it seem very fairy garden-ish. I came on a Wednesday at 9:30 and the line was very long. It was down the stairs with various party's. And to add to the chaos, they only had two windows open and about 3 workers, all of which we're teenagers. The menu was very wide with flavors you can't find anywhere else (llama tracks and brady's bunch crunch) and the more classic flavors.(vanilla and chocolate) I got the mint chip which was pretty ok for a mint chip. Though you could tell it was fake from the color. And mind you, I got a small and it was huge. It looked like it had about three scoops. For 6 people it was $30. Which for ice cream, is mediocre. In all, I would really recommend this place if your in the area. read more

5 stars for the rum raisin. So hard to find a rum raisin as good as this. Excellent creamy vanilla ice cream with what tasted like REAL rum and the plumpest raisins. It was listed under 'adult flavors' but they kindly put it in a kiddie size for me since I had eaten like a linebacker all day, was not hungry but had to try it and so glad I did. The kid size was huge. Prices are very fair for the portion size. We also got a sundae and it was okay-- not great.. whipped cream was blah and hot fudge not too great. read more

Are we talking rhubarb crumble with toasted anise, or mint with sea urchin (Salt & Straw, Portland, OR)? Or the nuts of wrath at Ice & Vice in NYC? No, but they have some things up their sleeves at the Schoolhouse. No disappointments. Ice cream was ok. Good sized portions, not overly expensive. The counter help is gruff. I went to use one of the interior trash cans and was told from across the room by the brunette with glasses to "not use that one, because we just cleaned it". I'm pretty sure a customer can use any trash can they would like to, and just because you cleaned it doesn't mean we can't use it. Sorry to say, but trash gets full often throughout the day, and poor you will just have to clean it out every time it gets full! Like total bummer you need to work girl! Hey, if you don't like the job and what it entails then you should get another job! Also all of the one word responses to our questions didn't go unnoticed. Abrupt communication is like a second language to me so I know when someone has a bad attitude. I wouldn't go back to this place because the counter service didn't really want us to be there in the first place, but they sure do place the tip jar right where they want everyone to see. Here's my advice. Be nice. Be friendly. Smile the whole day. Make a kids day today. You'll see those tips improve and maybe you wouldn't be so jaded as to why currently that tip jar isn't full. Such a great scoop shop. So many flavors, generous serving sizes, beautiful areas to sit and enjoy your ice cream both inside and out. My boys loved their chocolate Cookie Monster ice cream (chocolate ice cream with Oreos and cookie dough - omg yum) and I loved my sundae with Irish whiskey coffee ice cream - also so yum.
