I have no doubt if you get to go on this excursion it's probably quite lovely based on other reviews. The problem is their cancellation policy is awful which yes they do make well known upfront. (Moral of the story just don't book in advance if at all there are companies locally with more reasonable accommodations if you need to book farther out) It's quite an investment to not even offer a raincheck when the conditions were as poor as ours were and the eye rolls from the staff who were all hiding under cover as they explained they were rain or shine with no rescheduling. Ended up having to cancel another local reservation just so we could go home early. One of the poorer interactions I've had in some time for something that we were looking forward to. Staff made it quite clear we should've looked at the forecast (booked over a week out) which sure is fine. Their crew was quite happy we canceled and they got their money without having to go out because no one wanted to go out in it. Not a great way to run a business. I hope others avoid the same experience and only experience it when they are not in that situation. Between the bad policy (no one asked for a refund just a raincheck) and the smug employees I was happier to walk away. Book at your own risk. read more

For $50 a pop, you get to ride the same schooner that was featured in Wedding Crashers with Christopher Walken, Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson. My friend was up visiting me from Nashvegas, and we took a day trip to Annapolis. I really didn't have a set agenda for the visit other than I wanted to take him out on the Bay. How this was going to be accomplished would be figured out once we got to the marina Once we arrived to the Annapolis downtown marina, there apparently was a boat show going on that we were unaware of. We learned of the Schooner Woodwind by the ticketers at the gate of the boat show. 20 minutes left until their final outing for the day, we rushed over to the location where we bought tickets and departed for our quest. We had such a fantastic experience. It wasn't too hot and it wasn't cold. It had a small breeze and cloudy. The weather and the people completely made the 2 hour voyage completely worth the while. We got to take a hold of the boat wheel and guide it with a little help from the captain on board. Since there wasn't but 14 people on the boat versus their sometimes 50 capacity - we really lucked out at having a more personal experience than say if we came on a clear weekend day in June. We came in mid April on a Friday. With your $50 ticket - you get a non-alcoholic beverage and snack through mid trip. Alcohol is available for purchase. Yelp side note - if you check in, they give you a free coozy that gives you a free alcoholic beverage of either wine or beer. Otherwise the coozies are $3 and you buy that from the place you get your ticket on the doc. If you want to bring your family out on the Bay for an afternoon of sailing; this is the best recommendation I can give you. It was totally 10,000% worth the money spent. read more

My fiance and I LOVED the cruise. This was my first sailboat excursion and it was the best thing we did in Annapolis. For around $40, Woodwind takes you out for 2 hours, with complimentary water and snack. You can also order wine/beer for $6 each, or sparkling wine for $25 a bottle. The crew was enthusiastic and the captain was very friendly. Even though it rained during the second half of the cruise, it was still a very beautiful experience. I will definitely go back for July 4th next year and sign up early for the firework cruise. read more

Highly recommended as a relaxing COVID-friendly activity. Every group gets their own section of the boat to enjoy with plenty of space to stretch out. Drink service was great with reasonable prices - we had a couple rounds of tasty bloody marys followed by some great local craft beer. If you're looking to kick back on the open water and enjoy the Annapolis scenery for a couple hours, this should be on your list. read more

We had a FABULOUS time on a Sunset Sail with this company. The boat didn't feel overcrowded, and it was the perfect amount of time to be on the boat (about 2 hours). Try to sit near the captain's wheel if you go - our captain gave out really interesting facts about what we were sailing by. They also provide free soft drinks and a little snack. If you can do one boat tour while I'm Annapolis, this is the one you have to do! If you can do the sunset tour, I recommend that. I originally went on a 4pm tour. It was amazing! The captain was very entertaining. I heaved the sail up! Volunteer for that if you can! So much fun. That sail was awesome. I loved it so much after graduation from an Army class I was taking at Fort Meade, my two friends and I did the sunset cruise. It was beautiful! Again, captain and crew were awesome. Drinks on board, cash only. But only 7$ a beer. They have a special beer you can only get on the boat or at Hysteria brewing. It was a perfect way to spend 2 hours with friends! Came here last week to celebrate my fiance's birthday on their sunset cruise. Paid ahead of time, but it was one of the hottest weekends on record. She has MS and is very susceptible to heat, as excessive heat can literally cause new lesions to develop on her brain. I shared all this with customer service 2 hours before the sunset cruise and he wouldn't even give us a credit for a later date. No refund, no credit, no service. Whenever I see this sort of customer service policy, I just don't understand how companies like this still exist in a world that thrives on great customer service. Now they've lost my business permanently and hopefully my friends and family's. Is that worth the $95 pocketed for absolutely nothing? read more

If you are in Annapolis this is a thing to do! For the price (approximately 40 a person) it is the best deal if you want to experience a little sailing on the bay. We had trouble at first finding the dock. It is BEHIND the Waterfront Hotel. You can walk through the hotel to get to it or through the parking lot on the right hand side if you are facing the hotel. Parking can be tricky so I recommend giving yourself 30 minutes before the boat takes off. We sailed on a Thursday from 4-6 so these are my ratings for that. There was not a lot of wind so we did not get too far out. We passed the navy academy and boat grave yard but other than that we did not get to see any other sights. There was a huge storm right behind us, so we had a few rain drops, but our captain did an excellent job of keeping us away from the storm. The storm actually cooled things off and made it a very pleasant sail ride. If it had not rained I believe the ride would have not been as pleasant in that heat. They say did not call for rain and there was not a cloud in the sky when we got there so I do recommend bringing a rain coat just in case you never know. Best place to sit on the boat in my opinion is with your back to the life preserver boxes in the middle of the boat. You sit up higher there and you can see everything. You can listen to what the captain is saying and to what the other sailboat crew is saying in the front of the boat. You also have a back rest which is nice. There was approximately 40 people on our ride (kids and adults) and I felt like I had plenty of room. ( this may have been because of where we were sitting there was just a lot more space and everyone else tried to crowd around the captain and steering wheel) I get motion sickness in the car and had no problem on the boat. However I didn't get up and try to walk around either. 2 hours was plenty of time I was ready to get off at the end of 2 hours. The crew was wonderful very accommodating and friendly. The captain was very knowledgeable and gave a great tour along the way. Just like the other reviews said anyone who wanted to was able to steer the boat and they took volunteers to hoist the sails. Tip: check in on yelp to get your free koozie at the ticket booth. That gets you a free (wine or beer ) drink on the ship! If you don't have a koozie they still give you complimentary soft drink/water and bag of chips. Overall, my favorite thing we did in Annapolis. read more

This review is based on my customer service experience, which was pretty disappointing. I booked as part of a group. Approx $160 for my spouse & self. 2 days prior, despite being vax'd, I received a positive covid test & we obviously could not go. I offered to send over proof of positive test, but was told that refunds were not possible due to the nature of the group sale purchase. I can understand that. I offered up the name of the party the booking was under, the sail date & time- not expecting anyone to take me on good faith & inquired if we could get a voucher to re-book, or anything at all; I was told "no, not possible, we can't do anything for you" and that I'd have to buy 2 new tickets. While I understand there are policies in place to prevent rampant cancellation & accounting headaches, in the era of Covid & trying to keep others safe, I find it very disappointing that absolutely NOTHING could have been done to offset the $160 already spent. I'd recommend not booking a group experience b/c if anything happens & someone in your party gets Covid, you/they will be out of luck (& money!) with no options to reschedule. read more

It was a fun way to spend the afternoon! We didn't get very far - there wasn't a lot of wind that day and we were mostly just motoring around, I think - and it rained a bit, but I don't think the company can be blamed for the weather. There's not much new to say that isn't covered in other reviews, other than to echo that you really should get there well in advance. We were running late getting there because somehow literally every parking garage downtown was full - I ended up parking in Eastport and walking over, and my friends found a meter at the last minute. We were the last people on the boat and ended up sitting across the middle of the boat, under the middle sail, which didn't give us the best views and ended up with us being crowded by people who had been asked to move out of the way by the crew to put the sails up and bring them back down. The captain and crew were all friendly. The captain was giving a bit of a "tour" the entire time - pointing out that this plot of land used to be something or this bridge was rt. 50 - which just seemed largely unnecessary to me, but apparently some of the other riders of the boat thought it was fascinating because we got "shushed" by another passenger for talking to each other at a reasonable volume. I decided to take a sailing tour when visiting Annapolis this weekend. So glad I chose this company for the tour. There are two Schooners for touring, Woodwind and Woodwind II. Each boat is beautiful maintained making for a authentic sailing experience. The captain and crew of the Woodwind were friendly and fun but still maintained a safe boating experience. The daily public tour lasts about 2 hours. You sail out of the harbor for an hour and then turn around and come back. Sails are rain or shine so be prepared. The crew mentioned they provide ponchos if it rains. There are several tour options including sunset tours, breakfast tours, and things like wine/beer tours. Booking is easy. I booked online the day before the tour. You can also book at the ticket office located where the boats are docked. Adult price for daily tour was $48+tax. The price seemed reasonable to me as a solo traveler. Beer, wine, water and soda are offered on board for a small price. The beer offerings included local brands which was a nice way to try a new beer. No real food on board but they did provide snacks at no cost. The daily tour is not a booze cruise. Tours are good for family time. You can help the crew hoist the sails, steer the boat or just sit back and watch. The tour works well for small groups too. My tour included two groups of bachelorette's who wanted to share some girl time before the wedding festivities. I would definitely recommend this tour company. They even have a frequent sailer program if you enjoy the tours. :) read more

We had such a great time with Captain Jen & crew! A gorgeous & windy day so we moved along at a good clip, and as we were sitting in the front, we got good & wet! Crew were knowledgable and funny. They couldn't do anything about the drunk guy but at least he didn't barf. Wear FLAT soft soled shoes, bring something waterproof even if it is sunny, and maybe keep a change of clothes in the car. Included is water/soda and a small snack, but NOT beer, wine & koozies, as another yelper stated, even if you do follow the instructions given and check in ahead and get your boarding pass. (At least this is true of the daytime weekend sail; can't speak for the sunset or dinner cruises). Beer & wine were both $7. read more

I am so glad we pulled the trigger on tickets for the Woodwind cruise! My husband and I had our two best friends in town for Memorial Day (up to D.C. from Nashville), and as young professionals, we were a little worried about the ticket price.... But it was TOTALLY worth it. The crew was super accommodating and full of fun facts. It didn't hurt that the cash bar on board had relatively inexpensive bottles of champagne and craft beers. Been on this sail several times with out of town guests and we've had Captain Jen every time (except once with a male Captain who was great) and Ive always found her to be somewhat unpleasant. Captain Jen was quite rude and dismissive towards us the whole time and I can't think of any real reason-- maybe that we're a group of Asians? Many snide, petty comments made towards us, while being perfectly pleasant to every other passenger (we were the only ones of any color on the boat). We had the misfortune of having to sit right in front of her. The worst part is that my friends noticed her attitude as well. It's clear they make good money from the boats and are interested in more of the financial aspect than possibly what used to be humble beginnings (Jen decided to yell "one per customer" at my friend for taking two (free) snacks, 1 for himself and the other for his fiancé). Annapolis overall is very Caucasian and we've had racist comments thrown at us while walking down the street. Disappointing to also feel unwelcome on a sail we paid for to show our guests a good time. Luckily the other passengers around us were pleasant and we enjoyed the drinks and company anyway, but won't be back. Two stars instead of one bc the crew is awesome. I don't know how they carry all the wine and beer on a moving sailboat while avoiding people and going up and down stairs! Update I just wanted to say to Jen that I appreciate your time to reply. Billed as a 2 hour sunset cruise, our sail was less than two hours. The Captain was rude for no other reason than to show he was in charge. We booked over 20 people in our family reunion on this sail, no mention of our group. Music was not allowed either. So after much thought and great input thanks goes to the Empress XX who suggested this boat tour I choose The Schooner Wood Wind to sail away with nu-wife. Buy the tickets well in advance either the day before or earlier. A real bargain at $37 bucks person. I bought them on Saturday originally I had planned for us to go sailing on Sat at 11am and shopping/touring on Sunday, but they had a full load that Saturday they can carry up to 40 passengers. So we had to do other things that day like hanging out at Pusser's and then touring and shopping before we went to a show at 6pm. So the next day we got to Pusser's restaurant early around 9am and had breakfast there. I figured, boat boards at 10:30am set sails at 11am so I wanted to be there at least by 10:15, so why not good way to do it. Wear boat shoes if you have em the deck can get slippery and they sail rain or shine so no rain checks or refunds. If it rains wear a rubber rain coat no problem. But luckily for us the day was perfect better than the day before, plus there were only 10 other people in along for the ride. Great that makes it nice an cozy just the way I like it. After a brief intro from the very enthusiastically humorous skipper and his crew we set off for a two hour tour.... a two hour tour. Cast Away and we are off. I love boating and being out on the water, nothing is more relaxing and tranquil as sailing the calm waters. One day maybe I will get a boat but for now this will have to due. This is a 74 foot beautiful Schooner sail boat. Cool thing about this they let me help pull up some of the sails and handle the rigging (those sails are heavy) and the captain even let nu-wife and me drive the boat for a while, what a joy that was. They have complementary beverages on board from micro brews to wine and just water or soft drinks, plus some snacks. If you want champagne or any special wines then $4 bucks could buy you a glass full. Full sails and the wind blowing us wherever it felt to send us nothing like the open ocean... well okay the open bay and sharing with my nuwife and good company . What a sight to see all the other boats up and down the rivers the wakes of the boats creating majestic waves flowing from their paths. They looked like they were dancing to a waltz in the waters. We sailed around the Chesapeake Bay and into the Scenic Severn River with Capt Ken telling us about many interesting facts and tidbits and history of the bay the rivers the Navy Academy the different sights during the entire run of our tour in a most entertainingly fun way. From what I understand he used to be a teacher before buying these two sail boats the Woodwind and the Woodwind II and starting a fully functioning family business. If I had more teachers like this then school would have been a whole lot more fun. Incredible fun experience but only for those people who really enjoy things nice and easy. They have different package options available including a bed and breakfast over night stay for really decent prices. If you are one of those can't sit still for long super hyper active type A personalities then go on a speed boat this is not for you. For nu-wife and myself this was a nice cool gentle breeze on a lazy Sunday morning with no particular place to go. read more

YIPEE! What fun and what fun people! Sailing on the Chesapeake Bay on the Schooner Woodwind that was used in a movie (the Wedding Crasher), was pretty darn cool, no kidding! The staff welcome you aboard then ask for able body men/women for a little help hoisting the main and other sails. The staff also educates and answers your questions about the Bay, Schooner and surrounding area. You also get the chance to steer the Schooner for a while and get a feel of how easy it is to steer it. Free soda and water and snacks await you and if you want something along the adult beverage line, it is available for a charge. If you do a Yelp check in here, you get a free koozy that entitles you to a free beverage for life anytime you return. Total time out was like 1.5 hours and cost was well worth it. My husband took me (plus our 2 month old) for a sunset sail for my birthday last month. It certainly didn't hurt that the weather and wind were absolutely perfect for this excursion! We had a really great time and loved the view, the relative ease of the whole process, and the friendly and chatty crew. It was also really funny hearing anecdotes from the captain about interacting with the cast of Wedding Crashers when they filmed using the Schooner Woodwind. With your ticket, you are entitled to a complimentary brew (including local beers) or wine. For special occasions, bubbly is available if you purchase an entire bottle. If you are bringing a little tyke along, you'll need to bring a life jacket for him/her as they are not provided by the crew. Our infant did not take very well to being constrained in the life jacket we brought along, but the crew was understanding and didn't give us a hard time when we took her out of it 10 minutes into the sail. Only negative is that a ticket was needed for our baby. I guess I thought that a 10 lb human that was held the entire time would get a free pass, much like on airplanes (children 12 and under get a discounted ticket, though, so at least it isn't full price). Overall, we had a really nice time and would definitely recommend Schooner Woodwind for anyone looking to have a memorable evening. read more

On my last Saturday of freedom for the summer we decided to take the sunset cruise on the Woodwind II and we're really glad we did. It was the perfect end to the day with salty wind in your hair and the sound of rushing water at your feet. The crew was very friendly and we enjoyed the micro brew selections on board. Our cruise was at capacity so we were really happy that we got there early so we were one of the first to board and got good seats. I think we'll do a few things differently next time. While the weather was good others on the boat said that if there was more wind it would have been much better so if possible next time we'll try yo go on a windy day. Also next time I think I'd try and sit in the front of the boat. Much of my views were obstructed by someones head... Overall a good experience and one I think we'll repeat maybe once a year or so. read more

My boyfriend and I enjoyed a delicious lunch at Pusser's before boarding the beautiful 70" plus Woodwind Schooner! We lucked out with a gorgeous day and soft winds which made the sail quite relaxing! We didn't get the opportunity to drive the boat due to a large volume of passengers however they did offer it to many people on board. Overall the experience was wonderful and the crew was professional and entertaining! I gave 4 stars because I believe it was a little pricy ($40 per person) for a 2 hour sail. While the boat and the views are gorgeous, and the crew are great about bringing drinks and so forth...Schooner Woodwinds really pack people in like sardines, to a point where that once you sit down, you can't get up, and if you are at the end of the line, you may not be able to sit with your partner/party. It was our anniversary, and one of the things my husband and I bonded over early on in our relationship was our love of sailing. I had originally planned on renting a boat for us to sail on our own, however I thought that it would be nicer to just do a sail where we could sit back, enjoy the views and the air, and have a drink. We pre-bought tickets, and we arrived at the dock about 45 minutes before the sail was to start. We were in the back half of the line! When I saw how long the line was, my heart immediately sank, and my husband wondered if maybe they would split the group up into two boats. Nope. We were all crammed on there, sitting so closely to each other that we got *very* intimate with the strangers next to us. It was literally like sardines. And since the sail needed to swing out to catch the wind, if you were in the way of the boom (the swinging part of the sail), you didn't have anywhere to go, you basically had to duck as low as you could to avoid getting smacked in the head. However, like I said, the sail itself was lovely, and the crew was so nice and sweet. There was a bride and groom (and their very small wedding party) on the sail with us, and since it was our anniversary, we bought them a bottle of champagne, which the crew did a lovely job presenting to them. Lovely boat, lovely sail, lovely crew...but it was waaaay too crowded to be really enjoyable. read more

We took a sunset cruise on a Tuesday night featuring beers from Heavy Seas, a great local brewery in Baltimore. Free beer samples and sailing on the Chesapeake Bay? Yes please! We were lucky - it was a beautiful evening, but the wind was very light so the engine had to come on way to much for my taste. Captain Mike (a product of Baltimore's Downtown Sailing Center-shout out to them) was great as was the other friendly staff. A friend got to helm the lovely schooner for a good while and he had a great time doing it! The beers were good and the Heavy Seas rep did a good job filling in for Hugh Sisson. The rest of the passengers were a little dull, but my BF and I managed to have a great time. I think the 2-hour sail was a great deal, about $40/person for a really nice evening activity. It would have been great with a small group too. If we'd had more wind and been able to do a little more actual sailing, I'd give it 5 stars for sure. Highly recommend. read more

The weather was absolutely horrendous, it was pouring buckets all day with 100% chances of rain during the time of the sail. Yet, the Schooner went sailing anyways and refused to offer a refund. We were the only ones in the water, no one else was stupid enough to go sailing. Surely enough everyone was soaked from head to toe, even with cheap plastic ponchos they provided. Melanie, Brook and Capt. Mickey gave us a great sunset tour on the Woodwind. Brook gave us some great recommendations for places to eat, and also provided alot of colorful entertainment during the cruise. The historical society had a character travel with us as well, Anne. She gave a shpeal about a revolutionary printing woman whose story was interesting.....but not worth Anne's droning on.
